Title: PHP Confusing >_<
Post by: SereneRose on September 10, 2003, 12:54:55 PM
Alright i'm trying to learn PHP.. Dont know why just see lots of pages with it now and want to do it.. Call me a copier heh I see it I like it I want it... Anyway i have this program called Visual PHP FT1 and stuff.. but even that confuses me.. I'm sure if i am patient and give it time i'll figure it out.. but ya know what.. I'M NOT PATIENT!!!!! well not really.  So i ask, in simple instructions, a bit of coding, a bit of help, a bit of teaching if you will ^_^ before i go insane >_<   umm anything would be helpful like codes to make it so people have ta sign in.. And possibly how ya make a neat forum thing such as this LoL without using one on a different site.. I.E Ezboard.. yeah.  So like that'll be helpful.  Oh sorry no sleep tired but yet coffeenated so i'll edit this later i'm sure to make more sense and such... and to add anything i forgot to add now.

OoO wanna tell me all the neat stuff PHP can do?? or is only able to do like html.. and since i'm to lazy to go to another part of the board and post again i curious.... How do you make those neat generators?????  *would love to help in some ways if knew how.. heh*

Well, to start, learn the basics first, THEN try to copy.

And i'm trying to learn the basics.. but its confusing kind of like Javascript and such when i first started learning heh

Well, I understand that, but it's difficult to copy if you don't even know the basics.

www.php.net has some tutorials.

Best thing is to download scripts and try to decypher it.

Thanks hopfully they wont try to confuse me even more into wanting to lock myself up in a padded white room for the rest of my life...

Okay a lil dramatic but you get the point it's frustrating

Well, about "beginning php".
First of all, it's absolutely not suggested to use every kind of editor.
The reason? They can really helps you only if you know what they're doing.
So, your best friend will be... notepad! ;)

After this, there is something i'd like to know, before continue:

1) do you have html knowledge? If so, you can define you a newbie, a decent coder or a skillfull coder?
2) same question, but abuot javascript.
3) again same question, but about script languages (perl, pyton, etc...)
4) what about general basic programming stuffs? I mean if you know what is a variable, a function, an array, etc...

After your answers i will tell you more! ;)

I have html experience, i wouldnt say I'm very great, though some would say other wise lol.  but i am pretty damn good, if i can so without seeming braggy.   I also have some basic Javascript knowledge, still learning on that, can never learn enough, and also attempting my had at Flash.  Which is hard.. very very very hard...  I found out that the thing i was using beside being messed up and buggy. *made me reformat my HD it did* was also usless..  As for Perl or Python Dont know them... Also another thing i would like to learn seeing as it would probably come in handy, just havent gotten to it or know anyone really who knows it.  I'm also trying to figure out how to make a massive online graphic rpg, (using BYOND for that) So whatever that language is, again confusing but learnable and easy enough.

As for programming the only part that i know for that is what is in my books and in my notebooks, again trying to learn.  As i said in general i would consider myself above a Newb but not like masterful or even good for that matter, but hey at least i'm trying to learn and put my knowledge to use.    But from what i seen of php it's almost just like html cept a few different commands, which is what i want to know.. like what they are and what they do, would be MOST helpful.

Meh, Javascript is easy.

If you know HTML, and if you know how to use forms and such, you will succeed.

Also, a good knowledge of Basic (suggesting QBasic) can work too!

Ok, then i have an idea!
Gary... are you ready? i think this will take you too... :D

What about some good php lessons?
I mean, a step by step guide, with users that can ask and comment lessons.
I wrote the definitive first lesson.
You can find it here (http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?forumid=9&catid=5&threadid=1092).
So, if you like this, feel free to comment it there.
One note: please don't make comments which require more knowledge than what is requred for the lesson itself, or it will be uneuseful.

And again, if you like this, fell free to... advertsize it!
Why not? Php is beautiful, i think i'd like to consider this forum also as a "schoolboard" for this. If there will be students, of course! ;)

So, again and finally: what do you think of this "schoolboard" idea?

Ok, then!
So go to that first-basic-initial-newbie lesson and comment!
I want to understand if it's better i forget to be a teacher or not... ;)
