Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 06, 2007, 11:44:39 AM
Well, there's no music threads active at the moment. Post one or two tracks that you can't stop listening to right now.

Thanks for asking. Life has been progressing to say the least, I'll finally be employed soon so my lazy time will be cut by a bit. *cheers*

Another song I've really enjoyed for a good while has been Home Made Kazoku's Shounen Heart. Makes me wanna dance. XD

Title:
Post by: Ben on May 07, 2007, 05:12:29 PM
A NIN game? Oh noes.
Isnt there enough crappy gothy crap these days? Nine inch nails were cool in 94.
All of a sudden the "kids" get a hold of it and they have to market all the good ou t of it all. Trent Reznor is old. She shouldve just stuck to producing. Hes got nothing to be depressed about anymore. But now its "cool" to be angsty and sad.
God I hate marketing.
Dammit, why isnt there going to be a mastodon Game.

Level One: Defeat the Leviathan
Level Two: Find the Crystal Skull and evade the birchmen with the help of the Cysquatch
Level Three: Find where the bohemoth strides, and avoid it whilst answering the call of the mastodon.
Level Four: The march of the fire ants is a Call to war

Nin Game : Wander the vast nothing. Cut yourself. Hate the world. Fall in love with some sort of thing that nobody else loved. Whine because nobody else loves what you do. Talk about a Broken Machine, which is of course, an allegory for your angst.

Siberian Divide by Mastodon has really become one of my favourites lately.

That's another reason Mastodon pwns. With most bands you buy the album, listen to the songs, decide which songs you like and dislike, and get bored of it after three plays through. With Mastodon the songs don't get boring and your favourites are constantly changing.

HEY...OFF TOPIC...

Perhaps a sticky is in order for a music thread. I mean, then a new music topic wouldnt have to be made every three months. I just happen to know a guy who can hook that up. My buddy is a moderator in all of all.

Imma have this done. If somebody has an objection, PM me.
I cant see why there would be an objection though. It makes sense.
Even though we have alot of stickies here....it just seems like good logic to me
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 07, 2007, 10:28:38 PM
This thread is also to discuss the music that is posted. What's the use in just posting your favourites and not being able to respond to other people's posts?

Dream theater- Fatal tragedy (Actually I'm still working out whether I like it, but I do seem to be listening to it a lot)
Title:
Post by: Ben on May 07, 2007, 10:32:06 PM
I have some serious Dream Theatre Issues. I dunno...I just have a hard time taking them seriously.

Im going to reccomend pretty much every track on the new clutch album. If you arent familiar with clutch, theyre like, a classic rock, groove funk bluesy metal band.
Very listener friendly. Theyre sweet, and you can listen to them with your dad, and not have his ears bleed.

Ive also been rockin to the classical these days.

Mussorgski..,modest mussorgski. Its pretty epic. I reccomend Bear mountain. Youll know it when you hear it...But if you play the entire thing in the dark when youre trying to sleep youll dream about hunting Rhinos.
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 07, 2007, 10:35:10 PM
My problem is the singer in Dream theater. I like where they take the music, but the singing annoys me, which is why I'm having a hard time deciding whether I like them.

Oh don't be such an indie. Year Zero is a concept album about a future facist America, as the game will likely be. It's not angsty at alls. That's a damn sight more mature than mythical not-realbeasts!

Also Rocket Collecting by Milla. Mmm. Her voice is like warm russian cream on a kittens face.

That's mighty presumptuous. I like what I like. I'm not going to pretend I don't because it is or isn't popular among other people. I enjoy Year Zero... perhaps more than the downward spiral in fact. But I'm still weighing that up.

Oh, and also Dropkick Murphys, Shipping up to Boston. Because. I'm a sailor peg.

Oh pish posh. I said "Don't be so indie" not "You are an indie". I was being silly. :w00t: Also original gangsta didn't quite cut the mustard.

Oh and I found some CD from a local band I bought like a year ago. I have no idea what any of the songs are called, nor what the band was called, but it's kinda funky. Hmm. That's borderline spam.

Daft Punk sampled, I know they did. Taking pieces of a song, and remixing it is sampling. Taking an entire song and essentially recording shitty lyrics over it isn't sample, just putting shitty lyrics over it.

Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on September 29, 2007, 04:39:47 AM
Are you kidding? So you're telling me they took the entire original song, and layered new words on top of it? Really now? They sampled a snippet of the song, and added words to it. Kanye just took the whole of the damn song and didn't remove the words. Either way, Stronger is ****.
Title:
Post by: MrMister on September 29, 2007, 05:36:33 AM
Kanye West is ****ing retarded.
Daft Punk took da ESSENCE of da Cola Bottle Baby.
I don't really give a **** if they removed the words and added their own shitty ones. It's just Cola Bottle Baby with some effects and new words.
The main melody of a song isn't a snippet

Sounds like those who create RPGs aren't really into mainstream music overall... and I think that's a wonderful thing. Shows we have brains.

I tend to like something that's never been in the limelight OR way after it's died in the public eye, like my newfound love for Fushigi Yuugi or Fire Emblem (all but the Wii title - can't play 10 without playing 9 first, but I can't find any but 10 and 8!).

I'm also very addicted to composures of Noriyuki Iwarde of Grandia fame - "A Deus" and his "Fight!!" songs are particularly moving. Motoi Sakuraba also holds great love for me, as "A woodcarving star" holds me till it's last note. <3

I also enjoy Spanish Rock like Mana, so I think I'm pretty open minded. Or I'd like to think so.

Totally Fucked from the soundtrack of Spring Awankening...

As well as The opening song in Sweeny Todd... NOT the opening song they use in the movie, but the musical.  I wish it was in the movie, but it completely gives away the plot, thus, would not make a very good movie.  The song is called the Ballad of Sweeny Todd I think...

Along with my usual Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera.  Even a bit of Rent mixed in there too...

I haven't been, the same man since I saw you comin in, lets have a toast to the girl in Aisle 10!
Come along children, (Hey hey) We're gonna listen to a little music (hey hey) Like old times, like old times, look now I'll start the melody on the organ.
Fly, fly, like a butterfly, butterfly
Would you stop playing with that radio, Lord? I'm trying to get to sleep!
And together, we'll show you how to improvise, reminiscent of the wild style 75. Cause its the brothers on the mic occupying the drums, we're taking 4 MCs and make it sound like 1
Oh I can see the wrong part of town, I can hear them all say, Do wop do wop listen to the music!
Like this, like that, like this this, like that. Make me feel so good. I don't like it, not at all
Look, to da future, shape, da future. Here we go now, on the offense
He's a sweet, soul, brother, sweet, sweet, soul soul soul soul
Shes, a magical girl!

Fuckin Jet Set is ALWAYS on my music of the moment lists in some way or another.

personally, I prefer something a bit liess gay then disturbed. Ive been stuck listening to it at work lately, on account of my coworkers have a high teenage percentile.
Something about a band that claims every record is "gonna be more old school and badass" then the last, that continues to spiral downwards towards NuMetal forgotten obscurity....

So as a way to combat this, Ive been making them listen to my ****...

But then again, the only thing worse then vaginaless numetal, is chemical drug music.lol ZIIING
then again, im sure some of you arent grind fans either though

I was supposed to make this like 3 weeks ago on the request of Drag. Huh. Anyway, due to all the topics based on music popping up lately, lets try and keep it in one thread shall we? Lyrics you like, top favorite albums, new bands you listen to, play lists, whatever. LETS DO IT BOYS. And Phayre.
Title: Re: General Music Thread
Post by: Moosetroop11 on September 02, 2008, 02:07:52 AM
Mini topic: What's you're favourite album of all time? One that's stood the test of time, clearly isn't a fleeting obsession and you can't imagine being replaced any time soon?

I'd have to say... Possibly Radiohead - OK computer. It's not my favourite album at the moment but I'll still worship it in a year or so when I've 'gone off' other stuff. If it's not OK computer then it's KidA or Amnesiac. So, basically, three radiohead albums >.>

I have a hard time getting into a band for a long time. I used to be obsessed with Lostprophets. (kill me :x) They were good when they started, then they choked on an emo weenie. Lately I've been listening to a lot of things, but no real specific favorite band or album.

There was this one local band that released one album then broke up round where I live. I love every song on that CD. It was truly something else. It amazes me they didn't go anywhere, but that happens a lot.

EDIT: Interesting censor =P lol
Title: Re: General Music Thread
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on September 02, 2008, 02:32:05 AM
Hmm, I don't think I can possibly name the number one for me. I can create a list of a few though, so lets try that.

Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon: That album blew me away when I first heard it, and I was only what, 5? Whenever I play that album I still have to just lay back in my chair. I can't multitask with it.

Alice in Chains- Alice in Chains: Same case. By far my favorite AiC album, and I think a large part of it is due to the lyrics by Staley. Those combined with the music just seem to work incredibly well together.

Jethro Tull- Aqualung: Again, to me its the perfect combination of the music to the lyrics. When you sit down and listen to tracks like My God, Hymn, and Locomotive Breath if you can't just be taken aback even in the most little bit, I don't really know how to help you.

They Might Be Giants- John Henry: Not really sure why I like this one so much, especially when there's their great album Flood. Can't really explain this past that I just love it, drum machine and all.

Queen- A Night at the Opera; Supertramp- Even in the Quietest Moments: I'm grouping these two together just because they're my favorites for the same reasons, and that's the sheer feeling and emotion I get when I'm listening to em. '39 from Queen and Babaji are probably my top on each respective album, so listen to those and you might understand why, I dunno.

So It's all classic rock, minus a grunge album and a whatever-the-****-TMBG is. Strange.

We've all been there, Dren.

Well, I don't really know right now. Protest the Hero just made regular music dumb, I can't listen to SIlverchair or Offspring no more...

Right now, I mainly listen to real gifted people: Metallica and PTH. I really need some suggestions (no growling. If it has growling, it's gotta be balanced as PTH. And good intrumental, like Opeth and such, please. And no nerd stuff, like Dragonforce!).

I re-listened to Mastodon, and here's what I got: the play REALLY WELL, the instrumental part is just breathtaking. BUT, the vocals turn me off. I just can't stand it...Go fetch a James Hetfield for youselves guys!!

Hm, listened to Foxboro Hot Tubs. Really, Greenday succumbed to the 00's Indie trend? Where are we gonna stop?!?!?!?!?!

Okay, this' driving me crazy, I can't wait no more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQvDWdK_b1E

The only band I can relate to is the offspring. They really let me down with that new album, but I was kind of expecting them too. Bands seem to really be disappointing lately. Almost every new album I've listened to lately has disappointed me greatly in one way or another. Even non-mainstream bands. It's kind of sad.
Title: Re: General Music Thread

Yup, Offspring has the kind of mentality that we can't expect to have them grow...they say they do it for the fun. Meaning they are not likely to improve much, like Green Day did with American Idiot...I hope the change. They've always been a punk band, but heavily stained with metal traces. The should bring more metal in.

Uh albums. Right. I can't pick a single best, but...

The Offspring - The Offspring
Animals - Pink Floyd
The X Factor - Iron Maiden
Vapor Transmission - Orgy
The Dethalbum - Dethklök

Please don't do that. There are far, far better vocalists than Hetfield. He's recognisable, but that doesn't make him brilliant.

I listen to music for most of the day at work (when the boss isn't breathing down my neck reminding me of OSHA regulations), but I listened to these three songs more than any others today.

Tool - Forty Six & 2
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Tool - Flood

10 gigs on my mp3 player, but I hit back on these songs at least 3 times today haha...  don't ask me why.  Probably because Tool just rocks, and Paralyzer is one of 2 decent songs on Finger Elevens newest album =(   so dissapointing.  But good damn songs!

Staying with 'dad's generation' albums, the second half of 'Please don't touch' by Steve Hackett is incredible. The first half is interesting but the last few songs (starting with 'Hoping love will last') string together in a prog masterpiece. It's definately one of my favourites.

Hey everyone. Been awhile since I've been here. Anyways. My musical choices lately have been shred guitarists. Primarily Yngwie Malmsteen and Jason Becker. And some Buckethead. John 5. Paul Gilbert. All excellent guitarists. I've also been listening to a bit more mainstream music, like Foo Fighters and Weezer. They don't do much guitar-wise, but lyrically, they're not too bad. And of course, I love listening to myself play guitar.

You just listen to less demanding music, Felix. Most of us have gotten into less radio friendly bands.

As for a list... I'm listening to so few bands at the moment it doesn't feel like it warrants the list XD It always seems to be Metallica, Opeth or Radiohead at the moment. Enter Shikari's still awesome, and The latest portishead album is fantastic... Actually, I have this feeling I'm going to start listening to the early genesis albums again in the near future. So you could put Genesis back on the list.

You'd hate Coheed & Cambria then. I'm not saying they're "emo", but Claudio's singing is unconventionally high pitched.

Either way, they need to be mentioned. Coheed & Cambria are pioneers and crafters of modern progressive rock. They are my favourite band, and they have yet to dissappoint me with their music.

While we're still on the subject of high-pitched singing, I'd like to mention Mew. Try out Apocalypso and Circuitry of the Wolf for some awesome riffs. And for general groovy awesomeness, try No Shadow Kick. And for a dose of epic, try She Spider and Snow Brigade.

And since I mentioned awesome riffs, Mastodon. Also fits into the epic category. But not high-pitched singing.

And while we're on the subject of Mastodon! Try out Queens of the Stone Age. Just all around amazing. I'd suggest anything from Songs for the Deaf. Well, also 3's and 7's.

What else do I listen to... Led Zeppelin. You know, just the best band on the face of the planet. Nothing special. Tenacious D, arguably also the best band on the planet. CAKE, pretty cool stuff. System of a Down, one of the best bands of the 2000's. And Incubus too! They're great. Also, Rush. The Who. Old Foo Fighters. Pearl Jam. Soundgarden. Stone Temple Pilots. Audioslave.

Alright, I'm going to stop now.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention Iron Maiden. *shakes hand and makes a "whoops!" face*
EDIT2: And Dream Theater! ...

0_o you sure? What I've heard of them could just about be classed as prog but I think calling them 'pioneers' of the genre's going a bit far...

And yeah, Claudio's voice kills it for me. Especially when the voice is coming from a guy that looks like him XD I thought Angela Gossow was odd to watch live... Claudio's a whole new league of weird XD

Don't really like Coheed and Cambria. I never really listen to 'em.

Foo Fighters are good.  I especially like their stuff after One by One.  Zeppelin also rocks, as Robert Plant has an awesome voice and Jimmy Paige is a guitar god.  Another goodun is Shinedown.  I love that guy's voice.  It's not too high-pitched, and you can actually understand what he's saying.

Also, this song rocks.

I know, right?

Coheed & Cambria are pioneers and crafters of modern progressive rock.
I'd have to disagree, but Then that makes me think: How can I back this disagreeing up? Prog has since died, so it would be hard to prove that they were the early rebirthers of the genre. Prog is not a genre I venture too far into, so I don't have all the facts.

Let me just get off this by calling it opinion.

Everything you just said about them. Is why I love them.

But wait, isn't prog short for progressive? Well, whatever genre they are (new prog is what I meant), they are pioneers of it. :Plight:

Lemme change the course of the topic a bit...a question:

If you had a band, and it was up to you to name it, what would it be?

The names I've always been in love to are already taken: Metallica, Audioslave and Soundgarden. I just find them awesome (and I don't even like Audioslave that much.)

Anyway, I was thinking of "Blindfolds Aside", that is actually a song's name, but I think it says a lot. It's already picked too, but...

So, what's yours?

I've been messing around with my sister's bass. She plays it less than I play my guitar (which would basically make it brand new), and I think I like it. Perhaps I should give up on my fail-tastic guitar skills and work on bass, since I'm already better there than on guitar (I had no idea that was possible). Plus, it suits me better in many ways.

If you got a little extra cash, go to a luthier man...don't try fixing instruments yourself.

To be 100% sincere, it's not like the volume knob itself is important, but it's really recommended that you keep the instrument tuned. And it sounds REALLY different when it's nicely tuned, y'know? If you have any plans on improving your musical perception, you better have your equipment up to date. Plus, luthiers usually do a great job on them, in every aspect. Plus, is you leave it broken, it'l get...y'know, broken-er as times passes.

I pay $80.00 everytime I send the Devil Technology to the luthier, but it's really worth it (it includes new strings, yay!)

Over the last few days, I've been listening to some ambient techno stuff. It's awesome music to just pay and work with. It's enough background music, but doesn't make you focus.

High and dry - Radiohead

I haven't really been listening to it a lot, but it's stuck in my head right now. Almost anything by radiohead could be written here, really, at any time.

Other than that... That Death magnetic song that goes DU DU DA-DA-DU... da da da duu da da da duu, dudu- DU DU DA-DA-DU... da da da duu da da da duu, dudu- WOW WOW WUP WUP WUP

When you're secure enough in your masculinity to listen to such things, come back and talk to me again.

He's totally correct. Artist means nothing about your masculinity (or in some cases, femininity), but it really presents your taste (in this case, you have none).

What evidence do you have that we listen to "bears screaming into a microphone"? Sorry to burst your bubble, but more than half the stuff I listen to these days is instrumental.

Oh. I guess I hadn't realized that listening to talentless whores who pay various other people to make their shitty mainstream music for them was considered 'taste'.

Some of my favourite songs are APC. They're a lot lighter than tool, but oh, the flavours they evoke.

Not too hot for Puscifer though, which is Maynards THIRD band. I know right. He's like a dirty bandwhore.

I mean a lot of people have been in three bands, but to have them all on the go at the same time? That's just nasty.

Listen to Atlas
It's bizarre

BTW, the lyrics for the majority of it are:

People won't be people
When they hear this sound
That's been glowing in the dark at the edge of town

People won't be people
No, the people won't be people when they hear this sound
Won't you show me what begins at the edge of town
