My tribute to the now-dead project. Hopefully it pleases everyone who reads it.
http://osmose.bizhat.com
Some mistakes:
-The spacing and font size changes a lot. I finished Robotam's interview first, and changed the spacing, so it is dramatically different from other parts, like A Word from the Editor.
-RRWP was not banned. My bad >_<
-In Robotam's Interview, I mentioned "Artistic Orgasm," which was intended to be a display of the Roomi picture Shindo and Mr.X did, but I never stuck it in, partially due to there already being a member spotlight, and partially because there was already enough IMO. For a first issue anyway.
-I doubt the name of the magazine was in the same place twice! It got moved around a lot during the making, as it was kinda long and I didn't have the sense to change the font. But ah well.
-
You'll make more of those? because I found it funny :D
-
Absolutely loverly!

-
Yes. This was awesome. I would like to see another one, and help if all possible.

Same to me, if you want to make anothers, and need help, ask to me, I sux at graphics but I have some good ideas sometimes.
-
Hey, that's very enjoyable, I find it A$$some.
Good job! :)
Now, make another one next month...
And we'll let things happen until then. heh
-
I hate you, yes. Very good.
-
Even Asakura loves it! And there's a long line of people willing to help on future editions >_>
-
Bwa ha ha ha!!!! "And we need to slap Sai in the face for being gone so long. :p" Moose, you're the only one who could make a newspaper and I'll actually read it. The comics were great, and the stuff was stated awesomely! (is that even a word?) Great job, you should make one every month. In conclusion, teh newthpapah madeah meh laf! :p
-
I will help if you need any.
-
Don't start planning about making another one when the first just came out.
-
Heh, too fast to ya? Well, that proofs the magazine was a succes.
But anyway, we could (re)make a team for the Charas Magazine, just an idea.
-
that was real good..it was funny...cant wait for the next issue....are the same people always going to be in it?
-
This is really nice! I love the comic spots, they are funny! I'm looking forward to other issues :)
-
I'll break it to you now. If you don't know from my track record, I rarely ever finish ANYTHING. So if there's another issue I can almost guarentee it won't be by me, although I might be involved.
As a tip for those wanting to make their own issue, don't discuss much over the forums. Part of my scheme was keeping this quiet from everybody, including those who were featured.
-
Just as a point of clarrification, RRWP was never banned. He left under his own free will. Oh, and yes, that smiley contest thing is real. I will post a thread about it... eventually.
-
heyyyy, wooowww <3<3 it's great! this is what the mag should be like. good job osmose. Keep it up, need help, just gimme a call. I'm sure you have that covered though ^_- I look fwd to more.
-
So this was IT.
I kinda imagine something when Isaw you cheking the forum out, but I never thought you would actually DO something about it. XD good job.
-
Update: If anyone ever actually get's far on their attempt to make a second issue, I'm going to be toying around with a design that sucks up less bandwidth.
-
Aha, very clever. I like it alot!
-
http://osmose.bizhat.com/newhtml/ is the new design. Uses an Iframe and only one header image to get the job done, along with html articles to improve load time.
-
Here, Osmose. I made one kind of like yours coding in Iframes.
-
I really appreciate the gesture, but I'd like to stick with mine. Only one Image, and the look is almost exactly like it was before, with less bandwidth and work overall. Thanks though.
-
Nice.
I suggest different people do this, if they are willing and bi-weekly.
Maybe someone can set up a team XD Osmose and GC seem appropiate :P.
-
Whoa, impressive!
Very nice work!
I agree with the idea of recreating the mag team.
I strongly think that seeing something "for real" insted of just words surely will help in finding ppls to help on this.
This thread itself is a proof of this, and everyone now should sense the feeling that "this can be done".
I only have 2 things to say.
The first one is a question: this was the first complete test. If in the future the Mag team will revive, may we have a copy of this as an official release or you prefer to keep it for you as a test outside Charas?
The second one is a tech thing.
Your new test is based on iframes, but they're not exactly standard.
You can see more about this here:
http://www.allmyfaqs.com/faq.pl?Problems_with_using_frames
I'd suggest to use some different solution.
The simplest one would be to use PHP or ServerSideIncludes, if you can use them on your host.
Anyhow, it's your choice.
Congrats again for the great job!

Dont you think Bi-weekly may be a little too soon per issue? Monthly perhaps.

Meh.. Yeah Iframes.. I guess Osmose could always code with PHP includes. Same difference, and you only have one main frame.
-
Yeah, I know about the whole Iframe compatibility thing, but I was assuming that anyone who couldn't use Iframes wasn't worthy of my work :P
IFrames are really our only choice for the time being. The navigation is Javascript based, and I'm not even sure if it works fully with the Iframes (I switched it out from the PNG switching hoping name and src were both common attributes to the two >_<)
I'll think of something. SSI's are interesting, if unimaginative and terribly static. And bizhat hates it's users and requires you have a certain amount of posts on their forums to enable PHP, along with a description of the script being used.
As for the official release, if it gives me better hosting than bizhat (which it will, no doubt about that) it's all yours.
I'm going to say this now, though, that any and all article talk will either be in some form of protected forum (on another site, unless Alex works something out[and, if he does, I also suggest you put community contest as protected]) or through MSN/AIM. The best part of the magazine is the factor of total surprise, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone.
-
Unfortunatly, to create proptected areas in this forum is hard.
The private thing is something special, at this stage i can allow view to some categories, but there's no "user group" functions.
Anyhow, i was thinking at the forum not to reveal what we'll see, but to comment magazines, obtain suggesttions, organize eventual meetings and, more important, to permit new ppls to post their "curricula" if they will to join/help.

That's cool. I'd say we can have maybe two or three people who will get to test out their skills as a regular "Feature writer", kind of like that Ask Abbey thing, an ongoing article that they update every release. Then, we also let anyone submit a report they want to put, and someone(most likely me, as I have no life :P) reads it, decides if it's good enough, and then throws it in the "in" bin, "out" bin, or "next issue" bin.
Also, all issues are going to be in HTML. Since I'm rusty, someone is going to have to develop a standard for the reports. What I do recommend is using the following font format, for conformity:
font face="Arial" size=2
In brackets as a tag, of course. Also, please try and send(when they start being accepted) reports with images included, and positioned halfway decent. Becuase it's not going to be a series of images as the pages, we get less freedom with positioning, unless you design it with the Geocities website editor, in which you have pretty much the same freedom due to them using floating DIVs.
Course, this is just me rambling. But yeah, if you THINK you're magazine material, make something and submit it to me :P We'll work out the details eventually.
And, no, things like the Member Feature are going to be selected and contacted, you can't submit yourself for that :P
And, considering the rate I made that one by myself, I'm sure we can produce one bi-weekly, if not weekly.
And please send anything to my MSN at zmen8@msn.com or AIM at Osmose1000, or the msn address as email if you have neither.

That position is mine. Mine, I say, MINE!
