Title: Starting/Using MSN
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 30, 2006, 06:07:56 PM
Okay, I just downloades MSN Messenger. I've already installed it but it says I'm missing some wierd file. I've tried launching MSN Explorer but it says the servers are busy. What does this mean?  I'm really using AOL right now. I have Internet Explorer and Firefox too. Do I already need to be on the internet?Help?

Much better, Msn messenger is swarming with worms.

(This filters quite a few of them.)

Not entirely.  Random people can aquire your username, and do all kinds of crap to mess you up.

And yes, Trillion is awesome.

Mostly, If you choose not to add someone, you block them.
But that's just me.

This is true.  But the world of hacking is pretty powerful these days.  So merely clicking a button on the friend request box dealy, someone could do some serious damage.

Well....if you're looking to send stuff, just use Yahoo or Rapid Share or something.  Other than that...I imagine you can send stuff on this messanger, but if it's too big to be sent over Yahoo, then it wont be sent fast like you want it to.  I haven't tried it myself.

Trillian sucks.

It doesntg let you do things the original IMs lets you do which at times makes you a loner when on chats.

Get MSN and the MSN plus. You'll treasure it forever.

Actually, the bad things through instant messenger I am talking about, are the ones that come from people ON your contact list..

Most of them run through you and your friends, and sends itself to all the people on you or your friends contact list...

It usually gets you with fake links such as...

"hey i saw you on this website http//www1.uglypeople.org/(Your email.com)"

And when you click the link, it downloads a worm which then distributes the same way through you, and messes the hell out of your computer.

TRILLIAN IS TEH ROXXORZ!!!!!!!1111one11

Oh these people are just scaring you off of MSN.
I've never encountered one of these problems, and also I've got the appropriate AV software, so what's to worry?

Why are you people so scared for MSN? I'm using it for years and I never had a problem with it. Get over it.

I love the way charas works. Whenever a topic is made, someone forms their opinion and posts it. Then everyone agrees until SOME REBEL disagrees. Then the entire population of the thread has a change of heart. Well, I find it funny atleast.

But, I have MSN but I really dont use it that much. I stick to aim, more of my friends are there. =/

Ha, I may have had some part in scaring them away from MSN.  Whats funny is that I use MSN the most out of Trillian, AIM and Yahoo combined, as well as two other messangers I don't remember the names to.  ICQ or something..and...something else.

I am not scared of MSN...

Trillian is just a hell of alot more convieniant.

Why have 4 applications open trying to talk to everyone, while it burns up your ram, when you can have one application going. Plus it is skinable and there are a ton of SAFE extensions... (MSN extensions are not always safe, trust me on that.)

Seirously, I beg you, get over the rap thing. Itīs getting old already.

MSN is fine and I never had problems with it. Recently Iīve been having more problems to connect, but nothing serious like virus.

I like Google Talk a lot, and I use it the whole afternoon instead of properly working XD

To answer your query, just type the name of the file it says is missing into google. Search in the google listings for a website called Download.com. Download the file and place it where it says to place it. Voila! Problem solved.

I myself use Yahoo! Messenger, but only for people to ask me about Runescape PRO. It's not very different from MSN messenger. So I suggest switching to it.

Thnks X_marks_the_ed. It works. I guess it's just hard to connect because of the 4th.

I had a bad experience with Trillian.
Some guy logged onto his MSN with it on my computer at work while I was already logged in, and everyone on his list was added to mine, and vice versa. I still have people asking me 'why are you be adding me?!?!?!' and 'who's this'.

Well in my opinion, msn is decent..I don't like trillian at all. I've d/l'ed it three times and it...NEVER FREAKIN WORKED!!! So, it sucks in my opinion. When on msn, never accept a file or click a link that someone randomly gives you. Ask questions first, and wait for them to respond. :p Also, if you really wanna transfer files then you should use aim, because when you get disconnected on msn the file starts all over from the beginning and it's really annoying. Aim saves it from where the file left off. And you should get msnplus...just cause it's so effing cool :D

^agreed... with everything :|

MSN > AIM > YAHOO > TRILLIAN > EVERYTHING ELSE > COLSLAW
Title:

Yeah man coleslaw sucks...

Everything > Coleslaw

I would use my MSN if it worked, so instead I use AIM.

I personally use trillian.  I've tried the rest, and I just prefer it for some reason.  Maybe its the whole only one program instead of 3 thing.

Maybe instead of worrying about what IM you use, you should worry about how up-to-date your Firewall and crap is.  Anti-virus stuff usually helps. Oh, and common sense.  When your friend has a virus, don't let him share it with you.  Just stop talking to them until they fix it.  Also, don't take random files, like the other guy said.  Personally, I prefer AIM, because that's the only one I've ever used, and it actually works.... unless you have a bunch of PCs on you....  That's pretty much all I know about the universe.

I helped because it appears their only concern was to tell you to change messengers, running away from the problem instead of just fixing it.

But seriously, Download.com certainly has gotten me out of tough jams.
