Title: The joy of owning a DS.
Post by: Grandy on September 27, 2008, 03:37:05 AM
Time Hollow/Disgaea DS/Sonic & Dark Brotherhood/Kirby Superstar Ultra

Time Hollow is just the best adventure game ever since the Phoenix Wright series, and yes, it IS better than Apollo Justice.

Disgaea DS is basically Disgaea with like a punch to the face made up of extras, like unlocking the Most Badass Freakin' Overlord in his book form.

Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood is a pretty solid RPG. Nothing TOO exciting, but it's a good game nevertless.

KSSU = Remake of the best Kirby game ever made, with another punch to the face made up of extras. MetaKnightmare Ultra: play as MK in all the game's original stages, four new bosses and two new Arena modes, plus a whole new chapter.

All of them came out this week. Joy.

 EDIT:
 SUIKODEN DS

 SUIKODEN DS

 Afahghrwthgsshhg

 SUIKODEN FRIGGIN DS

 That's all.

I agree that the DS is nothing if not megawinsauce.

I have none of those games (damn budget), but my brother recently got KSSU. I will be kidnapping it soon.

Two people can play at the same time. But if only one has a cartridgedigetrig, then the other one has got to watch his screen over his shoulder to see the action.

Wha wha wha!?

Does Disgaea DS still give you everything the PS2 one offered?
I didn't think a cart would be able to store all of that! I was
considering getting it but didn't know if it would be a watered-down
port.

EDIT: Oh, is this turning into a PSP vs DS thread? Come
on! Let's be mature! Honestly!

Bitch please. The DS lite cramps my manly hands. The micro doesn't.

In other news, I wish I had the fund for KSSU D:

What? When did that happen? I mean, it's clear that, if you're an actual gamer, the DS is better, but if you're a "x whore", then the PSP is better.

Bitch please. The DS lite cramps my manly hands. The micro doesn't.
Somehow, I don't totally believe this. Which model are you using? I haven't had different results with mine, but I'm curious to hear if you've filed down the edges of a DS Phat or something. The only time I ever have hand cramps with my DS is when I'm playing one of them fancy pants one-handed game like Metroid.

No man, just the weirdness of the lite cramps it up. Straight up, shiny, rounded edged lite. The micro is actually really comfortable. Its the easiest to play, say, Mega Man Zero on for me.

Also, Monster Hunter 3. Wii wins.

Post by: Archem on September 27, 2008, 05:15:32 PM
Hmm. Well, I've had very much the opposite as far as my experiences go. My friend has one (he's threatened to abandon it once he gets a DS), and even though he loves it, I can't touch it without cramping up.

The Micro's pixels also mess with my eyes, but I suppose that's because I'm used to them being larger.

DS > PSP

The graphics are downsised, and there's many bit's without voice acting, but yes, it does offer everything Disgaea did.
Title: Re: The joy of owning a DS.
Post by: Archem on September 27, 2008, 07:40:20 PM
I heard that it was going to be a boatload of Disgaea and extras, and then I heard that it is a boatload of Disgaea and extras, and now you say it's a boatload of Disgaea and extras. That sounds like what it should be. I also heard it's a port of the first one, but I've never played any of them, so while that won't influence my buying of the title, it would be nice to know if that's true or not. I do want it, but I've never had the pleasures of a PS2 to experience the series before.

Oh, I just figured out there was a "Prinny Commentary" setting on 'Off'. I restarted the game with it "On" to see it.

Prinnies pop up on the upper screen while the characters are talking and keep commenting on the game. Saying it's amusing is losing an opportunity to say it's just good enough reason for you to no skip cutscenes EVER. You miht have played this game, and remember everything, but some stuff the prinnies say it's just priceless.

Or maybe I'm just too easily amused.

 *flashback*
Larharl's dad: Larharl, do you love me?
 Larharl:... no I hate you.
(Commentary Prinny: So he's aways been like that)
Larharl's dad: Ha, a tipical answer for a demon, but one day...
(Commentary Prinny: "One day--- I'll crush you!" is probably what he was going to say)
 *end flashback*
Larharl: (Ugh, this brat got me thinking of my old man...)
Larharl: (What was he trying to tell me that time?)
 (Commentary Prinny: "---I'll crush you!")

I own both a DS and a PSP.

The PSP is an all around better system, and has more game selections (a lot are remakes though).
The DS has, IMO, better games and more variations thanks to the touch screen.

What I like is that it's a much-needed revival of a classic game. What I don't like is that it's essentially the same game, only with a never-before-released level...

...is it wrong for me to be more excited about Metal Slug 7?

I'd like if they could re-make Super Metroid for the DS... and I too would like to see a Super Smash Bros. for DS. There's enough buttons for it! I just don't know what the second screen could be used for, though... and Chrono Trigger for DS sounds great!

If you really want a GBA slot, BUY A GBA OR BUY AN OLDER DS. ITS NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT.\

It wasn't until this generation that games have backwards compatibility so stop complaining.

That... has nothing to do with it FFL. If it doesn't have a gba slot, buy a gba. If it does have a camer, buy a camera. That makes less sense XD

Anyways, its got mp3 and sd recognition. Thats pretty cool. Though I still want to get my hands on a play-yan.

I'm personally still completely content with my DS dark/heavy/dinosaur. And personally, ZKX, I do see a problem not having a GBA slot. Yes, even though I have an old GBA and the old DS, I don't have room to carry around that much, as I already have a bunch of stuff I always keep in my pockets. It's incredibly convenient being able to just switch between systems like that, and what's the point of having a smaller DS if you have to carry around another system if you want to play GBA anyway?

Oh, and original GBA did have backwards compatibility. :P
Title: Re: The joy of owning a DS.

Orrrrr, carry one and not have an add disorder :D

The original GBA did, but really, just be content with it. If you want to play DS, bring a ds. If you want to play GBA, bring a GBA. I don't know about you guys, but I always have the micro in my pocket and I rarely have enough time to play it.

There's supposed to be some sort of download system like the Shop Channel that the Wii has. No word of just how that'll be yet.

But about the DSi's missing GBA port: I use this port about as much as I use the DS game port, so losing it forces me to carry around another handheld. This is massively inconvenient. A minor inconvenience that also turns up is that peripherals that take advantage of the GBA slot (like the Guitar Hero add-on and the rumble pack) are rendered useless. Not a big deal to me, since I don't own either one, but still irksome. Also most of the new software features are already available to owners of a flash cart. In the end, this seems to be a very bad trade-off to me.

Then again, I'm a bit of a tech whore, and having a built in web browser, a better wi-fi detection system, larger screen, built-in SD card support, built-in camera, and all those fancy features with none of that flash cart finagling seems nice.

I never understood the fascination with Fio. She was never "delicious" or whatever retarded adjective they choose in one of the games. The sprites have always been the same, and the mugs have always been manly. Eri (and Nadia) have always been more attractive in the sense of being females. Fan art doesn't count towards a character being attractive. Its retarded fan art. I was excited about a new Metal Slug, but after 6 I've lost all hope. You can only have the exact same game for so long.

Yeah, school filters are stupid... so many sites blocked for reasons such as violence or pornography while they actually have no such contents...

As for DSi and its missing GBA slot, it doesn't bother me, as I actually never played GBA games on my original DS. The only reason I'd put a GBA game in the slot was to prevent any dust to get in... and also because I didn't like to have an empty slot. Removing it seems kinda like a downgrade, though.

Maybe I'll get one... maybe.

Some games (Pokemon) use it to unlock stuff
And there is a filler-cartridge that came with the DS

The filler-cartridge came with the DS Lite, not the original DS. Or well, I didn't have one when I got mine.
And I didn't know about unlocking stuff with it. But anyway, the DSi will come outside of Japan some time next year, so I'll probably just get a DS Lite instead... which will come with the filler-cartridge.

Yeah, I bet...<_<

Still, it's not the size of your penis screen Power Level, it's the speed of your Slowpoke that matters. Nobody wants a fast Slowpoke.

...What are you talking about? What I meant was that if there was a fast Slowpoke, it wouldn't be a Slowpoke anymore--it'd be a Fastpoke, and that makes no sense whatsoever. Who ever heard of a Fastpoke? That's not fun. It doesn't even sound cuddly.

Exactly
A Slowpoke can't be fast
It would destroy reality
It's specifically named to be slow
It being fast would be impossible, and in succeeding in that impossibility, we would break reality

It's like that episode of Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy when they make Mandy smile
It ****ed everything up

Drawn to Life is right now my favorite DS game. Why? Cause I play as Batman. It also has a kickass ending song, even if I beat it in 4 days. Spongebob will kill the game forever. (Good thing it's not made by 5th cell. It's made by Play THQ in general.)

Sigma Harmonics is coming out and that looks pretty sweet.

World Destruction : Michibi Kareshi Ishi looks pretty much like crap, but those who like Xenogears and the Chrono music might like it.

Knights in the Nightmare also looks amazing. It is a tactical rpg where you control a wisp with the stylist. Enemies may attack either your units, or your wisp. If it is the first, then your units just loose health. If they attack the wisp, you must move it around the screen with your stylist to evade the attack. It looks awesome.

Then there's Tales of the Tempest... which I'm iffy about. The cutsceens look terrible and the graphics look decent at best. The trailer made it seem like battles will be very hack-and-slash, so I dunno. Something to keep an eye on I suppose.

Just saw a video for Dungeon of Windaria too. Looks decent, if it comes overseas I might try it. It is basically a 2d runescape.

Did you know that the Dungeon of Windaria game is actually based off of an old '80s anime? THE MOAR YOU KNOW! ^_^

The game I'm looking out for is Jump Ultimate Stars--I'll buy an imported version once my scholarship cash comes in later this month. I can't wait to wail on Naruto with Dio Brando! ^_^

That's funny; I remember checking the character tiers on Jump Wiki, the wiki for Jump: Ultimate Stars. Dio Brando is one of the top 5 characters, while Naruto is below-average...also, Dio has a crotch-grab move. That's priceless.

Goku was a below-average character, actually--weaker than Luffy (higher-than-average)....

Still, yeah, nothing compares to the pleasure of using ZA WORUDO on Luffy, and Road Rolling his annoying *** into Never.

......Or, I could just play Metal Slug 7, and use a HEAVY MACHINE GUN to blow up s***. Both work. ^_^

Yeah, CoD4 made it to the DS. It's the only version of the game that's different.

As long as you have to hold the system with one hand (because aiming with the stylus is the ****), this will always exist.

Unless they release that grip that I've been hoping for...
Title: Re: The joy of owning a DS.
Post by: Cerebus on October 21, 2008, 02:17:30 AM
I always aimed with A-B-X-Y in Metroid, though. I know it's more precise with the stylus, but I just couldn't play that way. Can you set it that way in CoD:4 DS? Also, can you play against Bots in multiplayer?

And is there any other FPS for the DS?

Title: Re: The joy of owning a DS.

I always aimed with A-B-X-Y in Metroid, though. I know it's more precise with the stylus, but I just couldn't play that way.
See, I'm the other way around. The stylus aim was fast, precise, and felt like a mouse. The button method was slow, inaccurate, clunky, and my brain kept switching from inverted y-axis to non-inverted y-axis on the fly, leaving myself flailing about in any combat situation. The one thing I preferred about the dual button control setup was that doing a boost ball was much easier (although you could still use the same method with stylus mode, but you had to change your hand position exclusively for ball mode).

Anyways, I've made my opinion on Touch the Dead known ages ago. Fun fun fun, but the name is so poorly selected. I believe it was the butt of some of my jokes a while back, too.

Vampire Killer is lost, so is the Belmont family, tho the little village you hang out in "might" have (which means it has) a relation to the former Belmont family. Which tells that its pretty much after the previous castlevanias.
