Title: Eternal Sonja *Update*
Post by: daoman89 on September 06, 2012, 11:51:45 PM
I've taken a long break from doing anything big for the game.  Xenoblade Chronicles has taken up the free time I had lol.  Anyways...

I'm remapping the beginning of the game to make the first few areas a lot less lazy looking.  I'm also going to add a more interesting beginning and change up the story slightly.  I feel the beginning is very weak as opposed to the later parts of the game so why not make it better?  I've also changed up the skill system into them being purchased instead of level learned.  I am also going to add some past scene sequences for the main characters at some point so you get the feel of who they are more.  Such as why so and so is like this blah blah blah.

I'm also adding in-game cut-scenes that show a lot more sprite action etc.  I'll either post screen shots or perhaps a video soon showing the progress if you all want.  And once everything thing is completed, I will re-post a demo here and in the demo section.  :D

Def put videos up. Videos are usually the cause of me trying a demo.

All righty.  I'm creating a new antagonist to fit the new beginning story.

As of right now...

I've made approximately 80 skill scrolls you need to buy or find instead of level learning scrolls.
Why?  Because this gets rid of the overpowered and underpowered issue.  If you're over leveled you'd have better skills so it would be easy and if you're under leveled you wouldn't have strong enough skills.  So being able to purchase them or find them will balance that out and perhaps cut the level grinding a little bit.

I'm changing the beginning and putting more action into it.  The player will learn some knowledge about what's going on and it will all tie into when you first start playing with the main characters.  So the introduction will blend in nicely with Vash and Kyro's beginning.

I video will be posted soon showing the new beginning forest.  I'd do it sooner but I need to go lift :P

Just out of curiosity what maker are you using?

rpgmaker 2003.  I'm more comfortable with this one and i don't think i'll be doing any coding that 2003 can't do such as complicated mini games or something.

I would actually greatly appreciate if someone sent me or wrote a link towards a charaset where people are dead or corpses.

Scene when you finally reach Mount Muun's peak. The waver screen is where the boss fight takes place.

Here is part 2!  It's a lot shorter than Part 01 because of the lack of conversations.

Not bad use of the RTP at all. The only real complaint I'd have about your mapping is the fact that the rocks in the waterfall look a bit...odd since the water surrounding them doesn't move like the rest of the waterfall. The ones at the bottom in particular seem out of place.

On the subject of dialogue, I spotted one phrase that just didn't sit right with me: "You won't prevent me from stopping these two from escaping." Sounds kind of clunky, just too many words thrown into the same sentence. Does Thrall need to announce what he's intending to do or is it implied earlier in the scene? You're better off either omitting the line entirely or changing it to something a bit less clumsy such as "You still won't be able to escape!" or even "Running is futile!". The original sentence just isn't natural. Try saying it out loud and you'll see what I mean.

Also, watching it again... "Did you hesitate or something?" sounds weird as well. Kyro had clearly hesitated if he waited before jumping off of the cliff. "Are you scared of heights or something?" or "Why did you hesitate?" would be better alternatives in that situation because those are legit questions applicable to the situation.

Chrono Trigger music! :D

Since the waterfall is in the uppermost layer, I put in the blocks, but I think I'll just event in the rocks on the upper layer.  Funny cuz i was thinking that 5 minutes ago lol.  Yeah, i didn't like the Thrall dialogue much either I just didn't change it yet.

And i still haven't composed a Field theme so yeah, chrono trigger!!

Here's the entire mapping of the second main area on Muun Island.  I basically completely redid it and it looks way better than the previous Mount Muun for the most part.

Entrance

Area 01 - Simple area that introduces a simple search for a switch.

Area 02 - Another simple area, but a little more complex.  This deals with the introduction to solving riddles by examining ancient texts.

Area 03 - A huge open area.  This area introduces double layers and the option of choosing alternative routes.

Area 04 - A huge outside area of Mount Muun.  Also has multiple paths and some lead to helpful items.  This is the area that is used when the heroes make their escape from the peak.

Mount Muun Summit - The final area of Mount Muun.  The heroes discover a little bit of the mountain's history and learn that something horrible is happening beyond their island home.

There ya go!

Because of my small amount of time spent working on my game, I have decided to get help from my friend Blackie.  And an fyi, its new demo is almost finished.  Just need to redo a town.  Thanks!! :D
