Title: I must be cursed.
Post by: Fisherson on February 25, 2015, 12:56:08 AM
{Warning! Rant Ahead. Be prepared for a **** storm}

That's it!!! I can't stand it no mores!! XO I go through the trouble of DLing a "cracked" version of RPG maker VX Ace beacue even if I bought it fair a square there's no guarantee it won't turn out like Fabe 3 and Skyrim, where I bought them and Steam wouldn't register my internet as "on" even at full speed, and what do I get for my trouble? "The program is incompatible." It's not like I have Windows XP or lowers. This is freaking 7!! It's not...that OLD!! It wouldn't even work on my old PC or the one before it, why do I expect anything better from a cracked version?

It seems I'm doomed to just slowly watch my RPG maker 2003 slowly stop working and just give up on game making even as a hobby....Even though nothing makes me happier. Maybe writing or watching Game of Thrones but still even when words fail me and my favorite characters get killed off I still have RPG maker to turn to. It only fails me when I'm dumb enough to code over a previous mistake or when my buggy copy glitches for no reason. T_T Sigh....In five years RPG maker 2003 will likely not be compatible with any new OSes, much like how RM 2000 won't work on this PC, and I'll just fade away as that goofy fellow who was well loved on Charas but slowly stopped p[articipating in chain games or doing much other than re-tuning a game that will never be.

Dude, RMVXACE is over rated. Learn how to use Construct or Stencyl or learn C and start making dynplugins (kidding, kind of).

Over rated perhaps but I need a new engine. I love 2003 to death but it's capabilities are limited and it's not too long till, as I said earlier, it'll be liek RPG maker 2000. An okay tool that can't be played except on some systems. Or the day we start doing all our community based projects with either another engine or totally custom? I'm done. History. =/ Plus I've seen some of the interesting things VX can do when worked with correctly. Some of my favorite games of all times are demos made with this unit.

Jesus, I just went and checked, VXAce is still selling for 69.99... What a rip off. I say, pony up the cash or get better at swashbuckling! ;)

I must admit, I had some fun tinkering with Ruby script and seeing all the things it could do.

My windows 8 computer can run the old rm's fine.  I even messed with 95 a couple times to see what it was like.  Its weird that it won't work with yours even on compatibility mode?

VXace is working on my windows 7. So maybe there's just something wonky about the version you downloaded, or you haven't updated it in a while?

Also did you choose "go online" on steam? I made that mistake at first.

Get a functional crack. If you like it, wait for a Steam sale and pick it up dirt cheap then, that way you don't have to worry about the legality of publishing anything you make, or feel guilty.

I can personally confirm it works on Windows 7. If you can't find a functioning cracked version, I'm sure SOMEONE on the forum can help you privately.

May seem obvious, but have you tried changed the compatibility mode?

No. I don't know how to do that. Didn't even know it was a option. Is it a tool in the PC or would I have to open it's code and C+ it up?

It's far simpler than that. You just find the .exe and right click it, then select "Properties". From there, it brings up a menu with a lot of options and tabs. Click on the "Compatibility" tab, the check the "Run For Compatibility" box and select an option from the drop-down box below it. You usually want to pick a really common OS like Windows XP Service Pack 1 or 2, but anything lower than your current OS has potential.

Errr it didn't upack anything. The EXE, the RTP the resources nothing. Nada zilch.

It doesn't unpack anything, it just changes a setting.  You need to find the .exe for the program you have already installed and are trying to run and right click it to get to its properties.  It just runs the program as if it was meant for a different OS (in this case the OS is the XP Service Pack 1 or XP Service Pack 2).

My 2 cents (which BTW are saving me by allowing any kind of all tools to run just fine): what about a simple VM?
You can get to good and free VirtualBox, create a win2k or XP Virtual machine (I love 2k for these kind of things!), install any version of RPGM you'd like (even the old old old free ones) and just have your VM ready to be executed into whatever OS you'd like.
