Title: 3DS?
Post by: Prpl_Mage on April 27, 2011, 06:23:33 AM
So, the 3ds was released some time back now and I still haven't heard anything about it? What happened with that machine and when are the great games coming for it? Don't feel like paying an awful  lot of money for a console that only offers Nintendogs.

Anyone got this or know someone who does? How did that 3D option work out for them`? Curiosity is kinda rising here.

Thing costs money, and we're generally broke-asses. I hear the 3D is very good, but it's still pretty much a gimmick. Also, Nintendo has a fuckton of games scheduled to be released during the year (things really pick up in June).

The Nintendo might release something in years to come as cheap, well made and functional as
my iPod 4. As for now, I'll stick to paying £3 for games with better graphics and higher resolutions
than that of the 3DS. Honestly, Nintendo. Step up your game. You can't compete any more.

On a lighter note, a "Wii 2" is on its way. Apparently it's "Significantly more powerful than the 360
or PS3." About effing time. The controller's meant to contain some sort of screen/touch tablet. Could
be interesting! :D

IIRC, so far the 3Ds still doesn't have any AAA games other than Street Fighter 4 and Samurai Warriors, and that's likely why no one is talking about it.

I myself am thinking about buying it, but only thinking. The only game that was a deal seller to me, Layton vs Phoenix Wright, apparently isn't even coming to the west. And even if I knew japanese well enough, though luck, since the 3DS is region locked.

Besides around where I live, the cheapest one I could find was R$999.99 (the priciest one being R$1100), and every other game was R$110 at least.

Say what you will about piracy, but it's less stealing than those prices.

That argument is total bullshit.

I still prefer handheld games with sprites, that's the only place we encounter sprites these days. And it kinda feels like it takes more effort to make these days.

Anyway, not getting an ipod anytime soon, although the port of FF3 seemed to have worked out great I still want my A and B button (See X and O button for a psp) instead of soem touch pad.

That argument is total bullshit.

Any reason why? I've been an avid Nintendo fan from day 1, but I'm sick of paying £30ish
for games which just don't require that much horsepower and therefore money to make.
I can imagine Miyamoto in years to come, with his big, happy, creased face - exclaiming that
his new handheld console is amazing because it has a built-in HD camcorder, an online
game library, HD screen and satnav! Unless someone makes a 3DS R4 equivalent, they won't
be getting my cash (which isn't exactly abundant).

I got a 3DS. The 3D effects are amazing. Calling them a gimmick is like calling better graphics a gimmick. You can really see the 3D. It looks like the screen has actual depth. It hurts my brain to think about but doesn't hurt my eyes to play. Heck, you can take 3D pictures that actually look 3D. It's so sweet.

But there are no good games yet, which is the story of Nintendo's freaking life. I'm looking forward to a few far-future releases but nothing out right now is really worth getting the system over. I only got it now because I got a nice bonus from work, but I totally understand people not being interested until that Zelda port or a new Mario Kart come out.

zuhane's argument is quite BS, by the way. Games that don't require much to make? They're freaking making 3D games that don't even require glasses! This technology basically doesn't exist anywhere else - it's certainly 100% new for the video game market. How much more cutting edge do you want? They did it with the DSs two screens on a handheld, they did it with the Wii's motion controls, and they did it again with the 3DS. I'll understand the argument that there are simply not enough good games for the Wii (the DS filled out quite nicely) and Nintendo isn't good at attracting 3rd party support, but really, telling them to step up their game? Weak.

Damn zuhane, just download the damn games illegally. And, really, £30? Games cost 100-250 ****ing brazilian bucks, over here, if you don't pirate them. You know how much that's in dollars? 60-150 dollars. Each game. Still think your prices are bad?

I hate Brazil.

But the thing is they couldn't break it's defenses yet, and even so there's a chance that by doing that we'll have no online capabilities.

Like the PS3.

I'll wait for some form of not having to pay for games to come out, and also wait for it to drop
in price before I get it. There's some great-looking games, but I don't think the prices are justifiable
for the hardware included and specs. I've paid Nintendo enough money throughout my life on buying
a DS, SNES, GBC, GBA, Gamecube, Wii and countless games!

This technology basically doesn't exist anywhere else - it's certainly 100% new for the video game market. How much more cutting edge do you want?

And Sai, I understand your point of view. It's not a gimmick. It's probably just not gimmicky enough to grab my attention
in the first place. I never got excited at the idea whatsoever, but the idea of the Wii gave me chills of excitement.

I'm waiting for a bit more money in my pocket and some better games. I will end up picking one up at some point, but the current library isn't interesting me.

A friend of mine has one though, and I do agree that the 3D is really good. I still don't care for the whole resurgence of 3D these days, but I do like that they include the option to turn it off.

3D games were much better back in the day of the Virtual Boy, I tell you! These crazy three dimensional dual screens that kids these days are using aren't half as fun as the good ol' migraine inducing red colours!

Virtual Boy makes your eyes bleed. Seriously. And when you stop playing it's just even worse for the first few seconds. But Mario Tennis is pretty fun, and Red Alarm is quite good. All I have, though. If the 3DS can have the same 3Dness of the Virtual Boy without the eye ruining part, I may eventually get it... eventually. Like, in a couple months/years. It will all depends on the games, too.

I played a Virtual Boy at a demo at Toys R Us when it was new. It was a lot of money to put a stupid mask over your face and play games in red and red colors. I have no idea what the heck Nintendo was thinking with that one.

Yeah. I used to play my friend's Virtual Boy all the time. Either reports of headaches seem exaggerated, or I'm incredibly tolerant of the color red.

I guess this does explain your periodic tantrums and breaking of your toys and/or deletion of threads.

It's kinda exaggerated, or well, for me too. But prolonged play kinda hurts your eyes when you see the light afterwards.
Though now I lost the part which served as preventing any light from getting in, which in turn ensure I won't go blind after playing. But I miss that part...

I'm mighty curious why they picked red instead of.......any color but red.

I like to think they were going for a Darth Vader vision type of thing.
