Title: Sleeping
Post by: SleepAid on February 09, 2005, 10:40:26 AM
1. I am an insomniac.

2. at this hour I have nothing better to do than be bored to all hells.

3. I decided to spend my time asking you how you try to fall asleep.

I usualy read a book. After taking some sleep aids. (Now do you see where my name comes from? It's a lot more practical than Shinotebasiiackh) :D

You're too young to try my first option which is drink a load of alcohol, be it actual lager or spirits. Before you say i'm too young too, i'm not, you only have to be 18 to drink in England.

Other than that you're best off trying to set-up some sort of pattern before you sleep. If you do this then your brain associates certain activities with sleep and that'll help. The problem is getting sleep in the first place.

Sadly that's the only advice i can offer.

Yeah, and when I wake up (provided I didn't choke to death on my own bile), I'll wish I did choke on my bile. Hooray for Hefe weisen, vodka, whisky, and all my other friends.

Ah a tad green in the field of alcohol I see. It isn't actually half as bad as you'd think. You get used to the alcohol being in your system and so the hangovers lessen over time. The wonders of being young also include fast metabolism which usually means no hangovers. I miss the days of drinking ridiculous amounts of alcohol when i was 15 and not suffering in the morning because of my metabolism.

Anyway it was a joke comment but it does actually work.

Yeah, I've never had a hangover in the morning after. But I WAS in a tent with a dude that threw up all over himself and me. Not fun ****. Please refrain from making assumptions about me, whatever the subject. *points toward pet peeve list* :)

Hmm, well since I don't have any alcohol at hand, I have to find some other way to go to sleep  :p

What I usually do when I go to sleep is put myself "in the shoes" of a character from one of my games. I've been doing that ever since I was 5, and its always helped to get my mind off other things that keep me up. Fore example, right now I am about to go to sleep, but there is a ton of stuff I wish to do, and I'd much rather be doing that then sleeping. So putting myself in the shoes of a character will take my mind off of all that stuff so I get to sleep.

Well its probably a bit wierd but hey it works.

Oh, and I usually turn the fan on and have it blowing in my face as well. Only problem with that is I usually can't hear my alarm clock in the morning  _sweat_

Wow. If I had a webcam I would take a pic of my bed. Which has a fan right next to the pillow. I have it on high and the sound luls me to sleep. Alarm clocks.... Hmmm.... How do I describe my feelings about it. I would use  :para:  but It looks like that guy's having a good time. You get the idea.

I have trouble with the opposite. Staying awake.

I used to be an insomniac, and I remember my remedy. Cheese. That's right. I ate a little at bedtime, everytime and it worked.
And don't listen to those fools who say it gives you nightmares, they're probably in on it and they want the secret to themselves.

Cheese? I gotta try that sometime! Is there a specific cheese you eat? *crosses fingures* please let it be string cheese   :yell:

Lol, the fan is right next to my bed as well, I put my hamper so its toughing my bed, then I set the fan on that. And I'm surprised that I still have an alarm clock. In the morning I halusinate a lot, and for some reason I think my alarm clock is some evil device, and I always smash it. Luckilly the snooze button is on top where I hit it, so it turns off after I give it a good wack or two. And if it dosen't turn off I have found myselft either smashing it on the side of my bed (which is wood) or chucking it actross my room, and one time when I did that it hit another clock and broke it  :(

I had the same feeling, Sleepaid. I had insomnia for a while last year. I didn't sleep for two weeks. And a little advice, alcohol isn't the way to go because if you drink yourself drunk, you'll just pass out and wake up an hour or two later with a headache.

Not that it helped me, but try some sleeping pills. Just a thought. Sleeping pills don't work on me whatsoever. I've taken all kinds. But, it's worth a try. Today, I just turn on the history channel and turn off the volume. It works most of the time.

"I understand you've been runnin' from a man who goes by the name of The Sandman. He flies through the sky like an Eagle in that eye of a hurricane that's abandoned..."

Sorry, just reminded me of that.

1 word: Cloraform. It works.

Chloraform? Er... no...

BTW, Wildguy, I take sleeping pills. Not the kind that can damage your liver and kidneys, but Melatonin. It's a natural thing. The best sourse for it is the sun. you soak it in thgouh your skin.

Wow, you're up late!

Just a note for me:
Alarm clocks are useless for me. If I put the radio on in the morning, I hardly wake up to it. If I put the beeping on, it'll give me a heartattack. So I need a vibration alarm.

No, if I stay up all night, I will need something to keep me awake the next morning, or I will fall asleep, no questions asked.

Alarm clocks only work if you can get someone to move your alarm clock every night, otherwise you just get into a routine that when your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze button straight away without thinking, and... well... snooze...
