What presents did you get this Christmas? if you're American/any other country that is still in Christmas Eve; Merry Christmas from FUTURE LAND.
Most of my presents were dull, except a live Frank Zappa DVD, and tickets to the Big Day Out to see Tool and Rammstein.
-
What show is the live DVD from?
-
Live in Paris 1980.
-
I would actually be very happy to get coal. It's shiny, and it burns. Two of my favorite things in one!
But yah, it's still Christmas eve.
-
I got a Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD set, a score to a concert band arrangement of the music from Harry Potter 3, some stuff for my car, A nightmare before Christmas T-shirt from the Disney store, some blueberry tea bags, a trumpet, and some oboe cane so I can make more reeds.
My family does everything on Christmas Eve.
-
I got a purse, a lace fan, a hair clip, doctor who season 4, and a gift certificate to amazon.
-
I got roughly 12 hours to go before we open presents.
-
I decline all presents.
But somehow, I got a new beanie.
-
Oh, you know, the usual. Eternal life, salvation from evil, all that. Also, a futon.
-
-Soldering iron and desoldering braid
-DS Lite to replace the one with broken touchscreen
-Bamboo drawing tablet
And in a bit, Team Fortress 2.
-
Money, which is perfect being a university student in the UK (lol, fees), and some other bits and bobs. Cool with me.
-
I got some pajamas, a crapton of knee-high socks, two hats with earflaps, a blouse, chocolates, and a bad-*** pocket watch.
-
Cologne and body wash(think my gf is trying to tell me something?), clothes, head scratcher (its heavenly) moneyz and concert tix.
-
I got a few CDs:
Iron Maiden - The Last Frontier
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
3 - Revisions
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R (Deluxe Edition)
I also got Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World on DVD, and a t-shirt with Gumby on it.
My family got a metric shitton of gifts, by comparison. Kind of how it works around here.

I thought you had free university in Europe?
-
Haven't you been watching the news? I mean, I haven't, but that doesn't mean this **** doesn't leak into my media stream somehow.
-
Just googled it. That's really unfortunate. We have a problem with tuition fees here too. http://www.nupge.ca/content/3580/tuition-fee-increase-more-double-inflation-rate
-
Thankfully I won't be hit by the tuition fee increases (unless I do a Master's) because I started before the cut-off point, but there's still the fact that student maintenance loans do not cover living costs no matter how cheaply you try to live. It just can't be done. So yeah, any money helps dig me out of my overdraft.
-
In the UK do you have to pay back the gov't money? In Ontario the government can give you OSAP (assistance) but you have to pay it back with interest. In contrast to the U.S. our fees are really not that bad (to be honest I don't know how Americans can afford University- my cousins' family had to take a second mortgage just to pay off their kids' education). But even so, our students are still scraping by with nothing and usually graduate thousands of dollars in debt to the government.
-
American students can't afford the debt they incur through federal student loans plus the interest rates. Its pretty insane.
-
I got through the wonderous power of capitalism:
-An electronic keyboard. Whee.
-FL studio. Whee.
-House of the Dead for Wii. Whee.
-A canteen with cheesy robots on it. Whee.
-Pocky 'n Haichu. Whee.
-A USB version of the NES controler. WheeISTILLWANTANXBOX360CONTROLLERDAMMIT.

Yeah, we have to pay it back once we start earning a certain income (I think it's £16,000 a year, which is practically nothing with today's costs). And yes, we end up with craploads of debt too. By the end of these three years I could be owing up to £20,000, which is pretty unpleasant.
-
I got a 500 gig hard drive, a cd, chocolate, racing gloves and some wood.
Then someone donated even better wood for free! But I have to use it in my research.
EDIT: About tuition...I'm fairly lucky, as I attend a school in my city, so I don't have to pay for a dorm. There is, however, this new copyright fee increase being planned which will quadruple subscription costs to journals and the like, which will of course be passed down to the students. So in a few years most Canadian schools can expect a fairly large tuition fee increase.

I got some gift cards and a little digital camera to finish my grant proposal stuff with.
I was way more excited to give this year.
I decided to only buy for my Younger sister. Shes 13, and has like, triple the artistic talent I did at her age. She has a crazy mother (my stepmother) who is kind of agorophobic and lives on the internet...So the poor kid hardly gets to use the computer at all (at home anyhow). I bought her a Wacom Intuos tablet, and gave her my laptop (I had an old one kicking around) along with it.
Im now jealous of her. I use a little old bamboo pen tablet. But That kind of stuff was not available when I was her age, and Im pretty sure with her talent that kid will be kicking my *** within 2 years....art wise anyhow.
It felt good. I spent more then I had, but i dont give a ****
-
That's a very heartwarming story. Good for you!
-
I agree.
P.S If she does beat you in the art race, you can ask her to draw stuff for you...
-
Inception was bad ***. *is slightly jealous
-
A thick book. Toll the hounds, haven't start reading it yet.
Star ocean the last hope for the ps3.
Super mario all stars for the wii.
Cloooooooooooooooothes.
And gift cards.
Apparently I need to dress all grown-up now...
-
Ben, you rock hard. My older siblings (I've got 5 of them) would never do something like that.
And I now want to see her drawings sometime.
-
oops i totally got a wacom tablet not bamboo, but it doesnt really matter ><
-
Bamboo is a Wacom brand :3
-
Graphire,Bamboo, Bamboo Touch, Intuos, and Cintiq are all Wacom tablets
-
Hey, Bluh, was it Overkill? That one is friggin awesome.
Way too easy, though.
Overkill was awesome. It was pretty easy, but it's nice to just shoot things mindlessly without having to worry about dying.
Wouldn't have minded a super tough mode after beating the game, though. That Director's Cut wasn't much harder...
-
Yeah, it just had a few extra thingies. Nice, but not hard.
The first stage of the final boss was the best boss fight EVER.
MISSING REEL
-
Yeah, that was epic. I can't believe they found those mini-guns.
Oh, I got a new controller for my Xbox 360. Yay. Day late and $10 cheaper.
-
I gave my girlfriend a bunch of my PS2 games. My intention is to transform her from a WoWfag into a proper gamer. I am evil.
Although, karmically, I gave her my copy of Champions of Norrath, and now I desperately want to play it but can't get a copy without paying vastly over the odds.
-
A nice dude at Kotaku gifted me the Deus Ex collection over Steam just now. Isn't that wonderful? Saves me the $10 winter sale price.

Only one of those games is good!
-
From my Grandma I got L4D2 for the Xbox, so now I can play with them.
Yes, my grandparents are gamers.
ed: Also, my sister's fiancé lent me his new copy of Epic Mickey, because he knew I'd get time to play it before him.
Fun game, although the camera is irritating as all hell.
-
Only one of those games is good!
