I have been undecided for a very long time. Obama's plan= spend, spend, spend! He would give bigger tax rebates, true, but how would that not be achieve through even more spending? I am in disagreement with McCain's policy on the war in Iraq, simply because I am opposed to war in general. However, I don't think Obama's plan for a quick retreat is much better. I am also against Obama's health care plans, and favor McCain's. Of course there are many issues but these are pretty big ones for me. I'm still undecided, I know I should have chosen someone by now, but I'm leaning towards Obama. I'm not really in favor of either candidate. I'm voting Joe the Plumber =P

I haven't really decided, but I'm leaning towards McCain. We really messed with Iraq, but just leaving quickly will screw it up even more. Plus McCain plans to give big tax breaks to these big companies, which is a GOOD thing because our economy is going to **** and if these big companies have more money, that means they can expand, buy stuff, and all this other stuff, which means more jobs and such.

But honestly, I procrastinate badly, and I haven't really done my research yet..

I saw that interview. McCain acted like a complete idiot and I just wanted to punch his lights out. He didn't even listen to anything Obama had to say, and his points were so badly put across that Obama had to explain them to the public. What the hell? I hope to god McCain doesn't get in...

So far, McCain hasn't done or said anything that wasn't an attack on Obama. I can't vote, but if I could, I'd vote Obama. Giving corporations money doesn't mean squat. If my Mom still gets her crap wage, she won't be able to afford getting sick.

Unfortunately, the whole 'voting' thing is whack in the U.S. I mean, why bother having people vote...if the Delegates will as well? That makes the population's vote utterly redundant.

Obama for the win, for me. Unfortunately, we all know that they'll assassinate him. He'll be targeted from day one....

Corporations without money go bankrupt or need to cut back spending = loss of jobs.
Corporations with money are able to expand and spend = more jobs.

It's simple economics...

It does NOT mean that the corporations will use that money to pay their employees more, but it will help the economy more as a whole.

That doesn't stop them from out-sourcing their jobs to another country--money or no, they'll do it.

Look at it this way--out of all the past recent presidents we've had since Regan, only Clinton wasn't a Fiscal Conservative. Regan and both Bush's left us in a defecit. Clinton left us with a surplus. You have to spend money to make money in this world, you know. You just have to know where to spend it.

I don't think you understand quite what a capitalist economy is. Companies thrive or die based on competition, promoting development and growth by better practices. The constant tax breaks given to companies by the current president and those promised by McCain basically take that and throw it out the window and baby their favorite failing companies while continuing to suck money from those who feel the pain of a bad economy - workers. Gas prices go up, food prices rise, everything costs more, and the common man is hurt, but the only people to get a break from their taxes are the millionaires who got us into this mess in the first place.

Also, Obama's plan for Iraq is a phased withdrawal, which is far from just "leaving quickly." McCain has famously said on multiple occasions that he will keep us in Iraq for as long as necessary, which isn't right; if we can't afford a war, why should we continue it? For how long?

I'd ask that you do a bit of research before just voting based on two issues.
Title: Re: UNITED STATES ELECTION!!
Post by: DragonBlaze on October 30, 2008, 01:11:09 AM
Yeah I said I was gonna do more research...

On the economy thing, competition is a good thing, but giving corporations money doesn't take away from that.
Lets say a cell phone company has money to work with, they build more towers allowing more people to use their service, this means more money for them. This also gives the companies that build the towers more work, it also gives the construction workers more work. And if company A is building towers, company B would be encouraged to build more towers too in order to keep up. Now if both companies were taxed up the ***, they would have to try to make more money in other ways, which is hard to do in our economy right now. So no new towers are built, meaning a large chain of companies will have less work. This chain effect is seen a lot in economics.

And for the war, "as long as necessary" is a GOOD thing. As long we are required to be there in order for Iraq to be stable enough on its own is how long we should be there.

I came up almost straight Obama. Which makes sense, since based on what he's said, he seems to have good ideas.

What I'm afraid of personally is if he'll carry through with his ideas completely or not.
Title: Re: UNITED STATES ELECTION!!
Post by: Cerebus on October 30, 2008, 03:34:37 AM
According to the test, I should vote for McCain. But that's because there were some things I wasn't too sure... I would probably vote for Obama if I had to, though. I don't know, I wouldn't like having someone who's been a prisoner of war for more than 5 years as president. I'm also opposed to that war thing.

I'd need to do some more research to be sure I'd vote for the  good person, though... but since I don't have to vote, well, I don't need to do any research. Yeah...

Palin is McCain's running mate, who personally, i think fucked himself in the ass when he chose her. It was only to re-win the support of the Hilary-supporters, and anyone could see through that facade. I would be pissed. She's very... well, I wouldn't want her being my president, but we're one heart attack away from it coming true... (if McCain is elected, that is)..

I am not the biggest fan of either of the two, but if I actually could vote, I would vote Obama. McCain is a capitalist, and I am not a fan of capitalist. Plus, he's old as sin, so if he died in office, Palin would be running the country. I highly doubt we want someone with the mentality of a stereotypical blonde cheerleader running our country. Obama, on the other hand, is really vague when he explains his ideas. That kind of bothers me, but eh, whatever.

Here's my take, though. I Seriously think that no matter who is elected, someone is getting assassinated.

If Obama wins - blam, shot by white supremacists.

If McCain wins - KABOOM! Shot by a black guy because Obama is black and didn't win, and that's "Racist". This leads to:

Palin taking over office - KABLAM! Shot because she's a woman, and there's still people that think women shouldn't be in office.

I'm still a McCain fan. Really, Presidential assassinations occur because the man is SOMEHOW important. I shudder if Obama wins and is, because it would have been for the same damn reason he was nominated: he's black. It's damn shame but it's true :|

In my view Obama is the lesser of two evils. McCain isn't too bad, even if he wants to invade Iran (hey let's attack the enemy of our enemy), but honestly as a member of the human race I do not want Sarah Palin controlling the most powerful nation in the world.

If McCain gets in and then dies in his first term, I am betting there will be 5 years tops before Russia gets nuked by accident.

I have a bad feeling about this election. It's a double-edged sword, someone stated something similar but I agree that if McCain wins then there's the possibility of riots and whatnot in the streets from blacks because Obama not winning is America being racist. On the other hand, however, if Obama does win, there's a strong (very strong) chance that he'll be assassinated. And yeah, it'll probably be a white supremacist, which will ignite civil conflict between blacks and whites due to a racism issue. Now, if and when this happens is beyond me, but I have another take on this. While it may be blamed on a white supremacist, I just have this bad feeling that it'll be an inside job. The way I see it, Obama is being used by the Democratic party (primarily Howard Dean) as a way to get into the Executive. He's been portrayed as this "man of the people," and has been compared to JFK so much. The fact that Biden was chosen as his running mate rather than Clinton is also skeptical. Half the time I see Obama and Biden together, it just seems like Biden has this "I'm gritting my teeth with this guy" kind of look, and Obama even has a "I didn't pick this man, I had to" kind of expression. I dunno, God forbid this be the case, but it just seems like Obama is only a puppet and Biden is the real candidate to be put in. As much as I can say for Obama, I've almost come to the conclusion that he is true to his word, that he really wants to change things. I almost see him as fooling the Democrats, leading them to believe that he doesn't realize they're using him, but once he gets in office he's going to take charge, going against what they want him to do. More or less, this is going to piss them off (perhaps it has already been happening and the plan is already set forth), Obama will be assassinated, and it's blamed on a white supremacist when it's really an inside job. It sounds pretty Hollywood, I know, but it just seems possible...

Who knows, maybe the world will end in 2012. =\

Oh yeah, and just as a joke (please don't take this seriously people):
Obama Biden
Add NLA between Bi and den and space it out
Obama BiN LAden
NLA = National Lawyers Association (among many other things)

Also, I find it interesting how this past page has had people saying they don't trust Biden and such. It's Obama who I don't trust. What an interestingly quick rise to popularity at such a time of conflict... But that's not the whole of it. I don't want to get into it.

Anyway, Bob Barr for president. People need to realize we aren't limited to two people.

DID YOU VOTE?

Cause I didn't. Went in the booth with my dad for extra credit in school.

Oh, our school had a mock election last Thursday. Obama won with 272 votes, and McCain got his *** whooped with 90 votes.

Has anyone noticed how crappy McCain's immigrant plan is? My brother was born in Africa, because my dad had UNEP stuff there. I'm pretty sure that would kick him out. As much as I hate my brother, that's completely retarded.

Something about everyone under 18 supporting Obama that bugs me alot. The percentage increasing as you get younger...
But I guess there's no point in complaining about it, I just hope that for once, a politician can do what he says he will do. Because now more than ever we can't afford another failed four years. I only wish everyone that voted had truly thought about their vote beyond, "Omg, he's black! He represents change!" And I know this is true for some, but it is also not true for some.

And honestly, I think he can do it, it simply remains to be proven and what scares me is he has little time to learn the ropes, so to speak.

Well, Democrats have been complaining about Republican majority for 8 years so there's that. Also consider people that DON'T vote for a candidate based on party. There are people that didn't vote McCain because he was a Republican.

That, and because Hilary was acting like a ginormous ****.

Oh, look, another person who follows bandwagon mentality. Why don't you go make an informed decision before spouting things off? I personally couldn't see the random hate for Hillary Clinton. She may not have been perfect, but someone set off some spark that SHE'S A BITCH LOLOLOLOL and everyone follows it. Honestly, have you ever actually looked at it objectively? Try giving a real reason for disliking her and maybe more people could take you seriously. Although many may not like my reasons for not voting for Obama, at least I didn't just say HE'S A STUPID RACIST GUY WHO DOESN'T REALLY SAY ANYTHING HE ONLY CAN TALK GOOD LOLOL.

The DNC leaned more towards Obama because of groundless hate towards Clinton from people like you. In actuality, she probably would've done a lot better if people gave her a chance. Oh, but wait, how could she satisfy America? She couldn't satisfy Bill! Yeah, she was too busy running the country.

Why I don't like:
Obama - I don't quite understand in what direction he is going with his plans. He seems to boast optimism, which works for the morale of the general public, but his plans seem to be more focused on that than actual substance. For example, he promises health care will no longer be a problem (people like this part), but he says it will be because those who can't afford can buy into a government plan. If you can't afford health care, then how can you buy into help from the government? I won't say all of his plans are directionless, as some seem really good, but there were too many that just seemed like they wouldn't go anywhere to me. In addition, I don't feel like he has much of a handle on foreign affairs. Besides the fact that he doesn't seemed too focused on international politics in general, I think leaving Iraq all at once because all of America is begging for it is wrong. Now that we're there, we need to slowly begin moving out, not departing in a short time period like 6 months. Finally, I don't particularly trust this man. People want to kill me for this, but it's just my personal feeling. Who IS he? There are so many different accounts of his past that I couldn't even figure out anything definite about him before 2004. It seems strange that he gained so much popularity such a short amount of time after America went to the Middle East. Overall, I hope my skepticism is wrong, but I just don't trust him.

McCain - Well, I'm more on the democratic side anyway, so I generally don't agree with Republican policies, especially socially. Continuing along with health care as a specific example, though, while Obama's seems to have no direction to me, McCain's appeared to be going in a bad direction. He wanted to continue funding insurance companies to leech money from the middle class consumer and tried to make up for it by saying he'd give people $5,000 for health care. That wouldn't pay for much, whether insurance or hospital bills. Also, I didn't care for McCain's "we'll stay in Iraq forever if we have to" plan. Finally, as a last specific example besides the fact that I generally don't agree with Republican social policies, the baby boomer generation is losing so much money that they have put away under the GOP. It's not fair how much money has been lost in investments and savings that people worked for.

Palin - Well, this seems to be the general consensus, so it shouldn't be as hard for most people to understand me here. She just doesn't know nearly enough to be VP, and it would have been worse to have McCain and die and have her take over. She does know about energy because she's from Alaska, but that's where it ends. She literally said on national television that she had to be told what the vice president did. Overall, her lack of knowledge and experience in politics just made her a poor choice.

Now I wonder who will read all of this.

To be honest, a lot of black rulers are not great. I mean, look at Africa. They have serious problems there. But the same is going on there, they don't want to see a white man sitting at the throne of a black country. Racial hate is everywhere and some people are just judging people because of that. So, let's hope that Obama does well as a president and not as a black guy so that they can at least have respect for him.

I like how people call Gov. Palin inexperienced when she's just as inexperienced as (or perhaps even more experienced than) President Elect Obama. As far as the being told what the VP has to do I'm pretty sure that was reaching out to America's funny bone and trying to familiarize with the electorate rather than a gaff. If you're going to attack Gov. Pailin's 'gaffs' you definitely shouldn't overlook VP Elect Biden's.

I dislike President Elect Obama because he is a leftist. Not a democrat, a leftist.

I dislike VP Elect Biden because he is an idiot.

I dislike Sen. McCain because of the fallibility of his campaign.

I really have no beef with Gov. Palin. I'm angry with the media because they ripped her a new one, but other than that, I have no issue.

I like how once you mention black people assume it means hate. Mother fuckers can't realize that "African-American" is a retarded-*** term that realistically makes no sense.

Also, yeah I agree. The 'race card' has been played waaaaaaaaaaaay too much in this campaign by complete freaking ignoramuses. I could go off on a whole tangent about that, and I'm sure you could too, Zeek.

Rev, how did governor Palin not deserve what she got? Are you saying that she doesn't deserve her position as governor of Alaska, or rather she didn't deserve to be selected by Senator McCain as a running mate?

EDIT::::: I see what you're saying. You mean she didn't deserve what she got from the media. Sorry.

Are you aware that the previous governor of Alaska injected his daughter into the United States Senate? I'll personally give my support to Gov. Palin simply because of that. But that's not the state I live in, so it's not my decision.

The fact of the matter is, Palin was chosen by the McCain campaign to give them a more 'everyman' face. I'll tell you one thing she doesn't have as much experience with as President Elect Obama: Money. Sarah Palin makes a upper-average income, she is as close to an 'average 'joe-sixpack'' as you'll see anywhere in the political realm. President Elect Obama; however, sat on a board controlling of millions of dollars to give to Chicago schools, but not a dime of that money was spent on text books or developing curriculum or even renovating public buildings. The money was spent to turn students into activists against the American government.

CNN was completely in the bag for Obama, btw. But since you have an opinion on politics too I guess you're a self-proclaimed politics master. Unless you want to give me an example of somebody on a 'high horse' in this thread, I kinda think it's you.

What it all boils down to is: I place more value upon personal rights, freedoms, and exceptionalism than I place on equality. I believe the Republican party supports that, the Democratic party resists it, and Leftists are trying to turn it completely around.

She basically came out and said she didn't know a lot. I'm not exactly sure how much clearer it's supposed to get. As for Biden, I really don't know much about him, so I left him out.

Also, Bart_Fatima, I really hope your post wasn't referring to me, because absolutely nowhere did I say anything about Obama being bad because he was black. He isn't even really black anyway. When he was in college (it count's) he attempted to be a stereotypical black person, due to his case of mistaken identity due to his white mother who he lived with his entire life. He even tried cocaine at one point in time.
He was also a member of the Nation of Islam, played a shitload of basketball, and did Marijuana

lolz
but srsly, racist jokes are not funny.
Though they make me laugh, and I giggle to myself.
They are unacceptable in this modern day society of toleration and acceptance.
Why don't you crack a gay joke? As long as you're not in Mass. or Conn. it's acceptable.

It may even be encouraged.

But that's just the thing, you assume that since there's no gays around, it's okay to crack a joke about them. As far as I'm concerned, if you deem racist jokes unacceptable, then all potentially offensive jokes are, by extension, unacceptable.

Let me use another example, everybody loves to tell 'priest and rabbi' jokes. I guess some of them are even funny. Like "A priest and a rabbi are walking down the street when they see a kid, the priest says 'hey, let's **** that kid' and the rabbi says 'out of what?'" This is a joke. It's funny. I repeat, this is a joke.

Also, I am not anti-semitic at all, nor am I a antagonist of the Catholic church. I can tell this joke without being either. Why then are jokes involving stereotypes of blacks considered 'racist'?

After all, you have to 'take' offense to something. 'Being' offended is a conscious choice.

Okay, just so there's no confusion, the following is completely devoid of sarcasm:

Yellowvanblake, I agree.

A joke's a joke. Yes, some of them are pretty fucked up. Like, for example:
Question: What's better than 100 black guys?
Answer: 100 dead black guys.

Now, that joke is evil... Nevertheless, it's a joke. People need to lighten up. I know there's a fine line, I know that. But how can we expect to get over suppressive ideals such as racism or feminism... uh, I mean sexism... yeah... if we get all hot-headed whenever someone makes a joke out of them. A JOKE: anything said or done to make people laugh.

People take things too seriously.
There are jokes about mostly everyone: Black, Jew, Woman, Man, Gay, Chinese, etc. so everyone's equal!

Yeah...

Oh and I heard Palin thought Africa was a country, and not a continent... that's great! (To remain a bit On-Topic)
