Title: Action Script website?
Post by: emiiru on January 26, 2008, 02:13:16 AM
Anyone know of an easy to follow action script tutorial website?  I mean one you've actually been to and liked, was useful, etc.  I mean a website that you've used for flash animation/ web design and/or game design.

I've searched, and I get websites that are search websites for what I'm searching. Ain't that some ****; searching just to search?

Anything useful would be cool, thanks.

I've never found a website that was good for any kind of programming aside from basic beginners tutorials. Well actually, there is a game making program called Dark Basic which looks pretty neat for a langauge, and they do have some nice tutorials on their homepage that go through an entire game.

Anyway, heres my advice. Take a class on whatever you want if you can. For example, I have a technical institution around where I live that offers many classes on web design, programming, flash, ect. Yeah, you have to pay for the class, but it is well worth it. I go to college (somewhere else), and in one semester of computer programming, I learned more than two years of trying to learn myself AND three semeseters in high school. Within three semesters of web design or programming, you could be pretty much an expert and do whatever you want. Flash should be a bit simpler, and I'd say you could be able to make awesome flash applications in one or two courses.

If you're looking for something cheeper, a book from a local bookstore (or ebay)  would be better than most online tutorials.

The problem I see with pretty much any online tutorial is that it ONLY shows you the code and says "do this" and "do that". A class (or book) will go futher to explain the concepts behind what you're doing, the code, how to USE the code, and how to adapt it and other options avalible.

Sorry I couldn't give you an actual website, but I hope that helped a bit.

Thanks.  I did go to college for a year, but the program was lacking a lot of things.  There was one class that focused on action script, and  I learned a little bit, despite the fact that the teacher wasn't very good at his job.   I'm going to a different school in May.

I do think that I could use the little knowledge that I do have, combined with my notes, to piece things together. I'll just google it for now though.
