5 Minute Game Contest
Starts: NOW! through September 30th.
Guidelines: Make a quick, short, game about 5 minutes in length.
- You may use any maker or program you feel comfortable with. (RPG Maker, Game Maker, C++, Stencyl, ASCII, anything goes.)
- You are allowed to make as many entries as you like. If you make'em within the time limit, flaunt'em up.
- 5 minutes is a general estimate of how long your game should be. Feel free to make an epic +50 hour saga if you can pull it off.
- You are allowed to have controversial subject matter such as nudity or religion. But warn people beforehand if there's anything for others to be nervous about before playing your game(s).
- More than one person (teams) is/are allowed to work on any one given entry. If you only have a specialty area and can't make an entire game by yourself that's perfectly fine.
- While it would be pretty keen if you were a registered member of Angel Spire in order to participate, people are allowed to enter by proxy through me. If you're shy about becoming a member under my tyrannical reign then simply PM me your entry and I will submit it for you.
- These rules should generally remain as they are, but nothing is set in stone. Any and all rules can be amended as "situations" and "incidents" arise.
Judging: Come October 1st the entries will be put up to a public vote that will last through October 7th whereupon the winner will be coronated.

So while I've been sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for Natako to review my gamepack I've hit a bit of a nostalgia streak. And now I've got a sudden urge to make a new game. I've decide to host a little game making contest over at my site. So now I'm just going around the community promoting this little cockfight.
I can't really offer much in the way of prizes, I'm wearing hobo rags and eating beans out of a can as it is. At one point I could have offered Spire Points (our on-site currency), but our virtual marketplace has been blown to crap during a power-trip "incident" which I won't go into right now. All I can really offer is a bloody fun good time, my eternal love, and your name hanging atop the flagpole for no less than the timespan of 1 week.
This contest is designed with the state of the RPG Maker community in mind, to get most people back into the groove of game design, to unhinge those rusty gates. The rules are quite simple: Make a game. As short and as crappy as you can, around 5 minutes worth in length. Hence the contest is called the 5 Minute Game Contest, clever I know.

We also have our own newspaper (http://www.angel-spire.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1497), the contest will be given an article there as well (whether you've won or lost your name will be mentioned as a participant regardless).

But seriously...maybe. I'm still finishing up my own crappy game (which is going to be over 5 minutes and length but probably under 20) that I had promised for a specific person in the past, but after that I would most likely be able to whip something short up. My mind has no bounds when it comes to nonsensical, random ideas. As soon as I finish my other crappy game, I could probably take on a second one.

Make a platformer if you want, or a sim. It doesn't really matter what kind or what maker you use. Last year someone made an SNES Mario clone.

The first submission is ready. It's not so much an entry as a promotion, inspiration, and/or bar of standards. This is the absolute bare minimum to get all the unmotivated people motivated. Let's see some entries out there! :D

Hey Greenraven, I am think if for an 'enticer ' I could donate a prize for the winner if a certain amount of submissions is reached. ( of course I wouldnt win it). I think this whole game making thing has to rise up if so ever for just a little. I am in game making communities, but a lot of them a self centered, and not that really open to ideas.

I'm not opposed to someone providing a prize. What do you want to set the submission bar to? I'm currently advertizing this contest on about 5 or 6 sites total and if everyone who says is going to enter actually enters there should be around 20 or so entries. (If I get that lucky.) XD

Yeah 15 different people. I'll think over the prize tonight. It'll probably be a multiple choice prize.
And it doesn't really matter. Whether you want to say there's a prize or someone is donating it, it don't matter to me. As long as hopefully it gets people doing something.

I meant to really go at this and I started a nice plot filled rpg style platformer but I got really busy and uncreative. I'm gong to have to submit my previous platformer as my entry.

Unfinished in every way. Don't fall off the world, because you won't respawn. Don't die, because you won't respawn. In the plane bit, drop down roughly where the arrow points to. You'll just have to explore and try and get something out of it :p But it's incredibly limited at the moment.

For one and more reasons I might not submit anything. For one, the project's not done and for two, it's length kind of makes it unfair. Though I'll probably just submit a demo.

Alright, old 2008 demo it is. Guild Wars didnt let me do anything. So old demo it is. Now I ran this through rmtool to get unused files off, but I didn't test it. Mostly because it does take about 45-60 minutes to finish.

Is it okay if I post this a bit later? Got some obligations today. It's so close to being done but I can't send in a half-flawed game, need to fix those last events and stuff.

Welp, here it is. It's incomplete but it's something. It's currently a good hour long play, maybe more. The last 10-15 minutes are the best. I ran through it and didn't find any game ending bugs. A warning about the difficulty system, I haven't played it on hard and it may be actually impossible on hard. So yeah, play on hard at your own risk. Especially when you get to the end.

But I've been putting GW2 and Borderlands on hold since I'm spending so much time with my project. Just these last 5 days I've kinda added twice as much crap than I did that entire month.

I did warn you at the start of the game that I have tendency to make my games really hard right? Or should I say challenging? No, hard is a pretty good word.
Are the normal enemies killing you or is it more the battle challenges I put on the maps?

One quick thing I should mention, is that our servers are on the American east coast.
I'm only mentioning this because there's currently a hurricane in that area right now. The contest may be extended by a few days to due power outages and the site going down. XD

Due to events beyond most people's control (the hurricane hitting the east coast of the United States) the deadline is being pushed back by a few day to give those people who lost power a chance to finish up.

It appears that giant chunks of the eastern seaboard are STILL without power. Between that and people wanting to fine tweak things I've decided to extend the deadline one final time.
You now have until DECEMBER 1ST to submit entries.
Hurricane related or not, hopefully everyone will be able to meet this new deadline. To those of you who have already finished your entries, I want to apologize for dragging this out. I just want to give everyone a fair chance to participate. :)

I've actually been working on a better platformer, but here's what ended up of my last one. There's a lot of unfinished stuff and rough edges, and sometimes conversations end abruptly. Also if you take certain paths, you can never return. :p Sorry about the poor state it's in. My next one's gonna be better, I think.
