Title: RM Programming Rules and Guidelines
Post by: DragonBlaze on January 27, 2008, 03:03:38 AM
This thread is to just go over the rules and guidelines in posting Rpg Maker Programming threads. Please read over both the rules and guidelines before posing a topic. The rules are.. well the rules. The guidelines basically go over how a request or tutorial should be set up.

Rules:

- This section of the forums is only for posting questions and tutorials related to programming aspects of rpg maker. Graphics, mapping, or anything else that does not relate to programming does NOT go here.

- Any game making programming request or tutorial is allowed in this section; however, a question for a program OTHER  than RPG Maker 2000, 2003, or XP will most likely not get a responce as most members here at Charas do not use other programs.

- If you have multiple questions, they need to go into ONE thread. Making multiple threads at once for differant questions is not allowed. If you have already made a thread for a question, and later have a new question, the new question should go in your old thread if it is still active (had new responces in the past few days). If your thread is inactive (no new responces in the past few days), then you may make a new thread for the new question.

- There will be NO flaming, bashing, or complaining against any members or Charas as a whole allowed. If a reply doesn't help you, go ahead and state that it didn't work or it didn't help, but flaming or bashing a member for not helping you good enough OR fast enough will result in punishment.

- Before posting a thread, be sure to check our the recomended programming tutorials thead to see if your question/tutorial is already addressed there.

- Be patient. Sometimes threads will not be answered right away. If your thread isn't addressed, do not make a new thread, and do not bump your thread. Wait patiently for a few days. If you still have no replies, you may -bump- your thread ONCE. Bumping a thread more than once (without new content) will result in the thread being locked.

- Normal forum rules apply to this section; therefore, there will be no spamming, thread bumping, links to rpg maker downloads, advertising, or anything else mentioned in the forum rules.

Guidelines

--- Requesting for help ---

- When requesting for help, make sure to include what program you are using. Rpg Maker 2000, Rpg Maker 2003, Rpg Maker XP, Game Maker, ect.

- Be sure to include as much information about your request as you can. If you want to know how to make a certain script, please describe (in as much detail as you can) what exactly do you want the script to do.

- If you have a question on why a certain script of yours isn't working, be sure to include all related code in your topic. This could be screenshots, or typed copies of your code. It is VERY hard for us to tell you what is wrong with a script when we can't see the script.

- Be patiant. It may take some time for a reply, but I'll do my best to address every topic as fast as I can.

-- Posting Tutorials Guidelines --

- Be sure to indicate which program the tutorial is for. Most likely it won't make a differance, but even the different versions of rpg maker work differently, thus a tutorial written for rpg maker 2003 may not work for rpg maker xp.

- Indicate which 'level' your tutorial is. For example, if its a basic tutorial on how to use switches and variables, it would be a beginners tutorial; however, if your tutorial was on how to intigrate an Action Time Bar into a Custom Battle System, it would be an advanced tutorial.

- Be as discriptive and therough as possible. The more detail you give, the more likely members will be able to understand it.

- If possible, it is a good idea to include your code in your tutorial, whether in writen form or a screenshot. Describing code can be EASILY misunderstood, but having it writen down for people to see can't be.
