Title: Extra Life charity fundraiser for hospitals - I'm participating this year!
Post by: Kilyle on November 04, 2016, 10:33:35 PM
I heard about this event some months back, but didn't think I was ready for an actual charity event.  Now that my YouTube channel is going good, I hear about it again, yesterday, when the event itself is tomorrow (Saturday, November 5th).  Kinda wish I'd had a week's warning, but oh well: My nephews and I are gonna do it.

Extra Life is a 24-hour gaming marathon (http://www.extra-life.org/participant/Arkylie) to benefit hospitals in the Children's Miracle Network; I'll be fundraising for Seattle Children's Hospital.  Now, we can't livestream this year because the internet is too unreliable (it kicks off while I'm loading videos, so I doubt it'll hold a stream), but I will be posting gaming videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmCyiOeedwFKB2RVBFPKbog) all day, starting at 8 AM PST.  Among other things, that will include the introduction to my nephew's new series (Norken Tackles Games), and the fanvid music video I made for Saints Row IV (using Dolly Parton's song "9 to 5").

I hope you'll look over my Extra Life page and come watch the videos I post.  And please consider donating.  Extra Life has been going since 2008 and has a track record of raising over 22 million dollars for hospitals across the network.  My goal is modest -- $128 (they won't let you set it lower than $100) -- so even a couple bucks could help.

This is my first experience with a fundraiser like this; the closest I've come is establishing Tiny Box Tim Day (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD7Pj1mpkk4) (a holiday for helping others), which did raise a little money this year, and I hope next year will see greater participation.  I'm both excited and nervous.  Here's hoping it'll be a good day :D

Well, you've got my vote. Good luck with your presidential campaign.

P.S. I may have skimmed the post instead of reading it all.

Good idea, I hope you get some videos posted soon!

Also, is this similar to the thing AGDQ does or is it on its own?

Not familiar with AGDQ.  This event is specifically to benefit the Children's Miracle Network of hospitals.

It's 3:30 in my timezone, and we've so far raised $27.  I've posted tons of videos and am busy rendering a new one right now (that's the slowest part, but gives me a chance to post social media updates).  Video upload schedule gonna be slower as my dad wants more computer time and such (I can't run Blender on the living room computer, and I don't know why, so I have to edit all videos on the main computer).

We've plateaued at $154.  I'll be continuing efforts through to at least Friday night, possibly do something on Saturday.  Really hope more people donate, but if this is all we've raised by the end, I think I can be just glad we managed over $150, when I didn't really expect we'd get even $50.

Plus, given everything else going on this week, I'm thrilled to be able to participate in something unambiguously good that definitely helps people.

That's great!

I hope you keep doing this in the future and get some streaming as well.

Oops, forgot to check back here.  Sum total for the week was $169, and the amount credited to my specific account (that is, not counting my friend who joined the effort) was $127.78, just 22 cents shy of my original goal of $128.

My YouTube account swelled from 25 videos to about 90 (that 25 being about a year's work), and I've managed to keep up a schedule of daily videos (minus Sunday) ever since, though so far I haven't managed to get a one-week buffer up like I'm hoping to.  Got a lot of footage this past weekend, mostly Minecraft.

If you're interested in a mostly-gaming channel that's just getting its sea legs, I hope you'll check out my channel.  My nephews are pretty amusing, and sometimes we get my niece in there too (latest amusement: "'Idiot Test'?  I'M TAKING THE IDIOT TEST!" (jumps into inescapable box, looks around, realizes) "CRAP!").

But regardless of whether that's your cup of tea or not, please mark June 28th on your calendar for Tiny Box Tim Day, "a holiday for helping others."  And have a happy Thanksgiving this year!
