Title: Zodiac Legacy
Post by: artoni on April 17, 2005, 04:43:22 AM
The stars never lie
but Men and Beasts do

~C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle

----

There is a story.

At the beginning of time, there were twelve gods, who created the world as we know it today. When these gods were done with their great task, they cast themselves up into the heavens, where they would forever watch over their creation. And even on the darkest nights, when the moon was naught to be seen, mortals could gaze up and see their creators gazing back down at them. Watching...

Waiting.

For you see, there were outside forces who would take apart creation and return it to the void from whence it came. Their nature was such that the gods could not confront them themselves...and so, they waited.

Ages passed. Civilization rose, fell, and was replaced. In time, the gods were forgotten, their children creating new idols to worship. The gods were not angry; such was the path they had forseen creation would take. It was simply another step in the growth of those who would one day be forced to stand face-to-face with the great Foes...

----

I'm looking for a partner to help create the game; storyline, maps, character development, and programming, among other things.

Details like character sprites?

Times like these make me wish I could attach more than one image to a post. Ah well.

That reminds me, any of you guys know a site where I could host my project site? Not so much like freewebs or geocities or tripod; I mean, an actual RM2k3 site. Or something.

Actually, it's a Centaur. Not really at the beginning - the monkey and donkey have the beginning, where the former does his plotting and whatnot. The Centaur says the line in response to the Prince/King (forgot) saying that Aslan has returned...the Centaur notes that the stars would have arranged themselves in His honor if it were true.

MariaMS - do you have an AIM SN?

Title: Update: Talent System
Post by: artoni on April 19, 2005, 10:06:15 PM
Because normal skills/magic are cliche.

-----

"Talent" is the catch-all name for inhuman abilities gained through study and training.
In some cases, the Talent is a characteristic of
a family's bloodline.

Talents are divided into three groups: Physical, Mental, and Elemental.

Physical Talents focus on the body.

They usually enhance one's abilities, or decrease a foe's.

"First Aid" is a Physical Talent.

Mental Talents focus on the mind.

They can cause multiple status effects in battle.

Elemental Talents focus on the world and that which it consists.

They can be used to either harm or heal.

Physical has an advantage over Mental.
Mental has an advantage over Elemental.
Elemental has an advantage over Physical.

Sometimes, a Talent is categorized into more than one group.
For example, Gaia's Grip is a Physical/Elemental Talent.

Talents rely on a person's 'Mental Power'. Each time the Talent is used, the person's MP is drained.
Use Balm to restore MP.

Talents are unable to be used in 'Blank' status.

-----

As the above tutorial states, Talents are what the people in the game call special abilities. Most will be able to be used in combat, and only in combat. Some will be able to be used in and out. And some will only be able to be used out of combat.

Themewise, they're anything and everything that most people can't do unassisted. From telekinesis to sword techniques to summoning rainstorms to healing wounds...everyone has at least one Talent, despite their way of life. Even if it's just making sparks fly from one's fingers.

God(s) create world. People forget about gods over time. Earth ring a bell? Of course, the rest is somewhat original.

Oh, lol. I don't think we've forgotten the gods, we've just put them into one. ;) In any case, it ain't Earth. I haven't settled on a name for the world yet.

Errr... was it a centaur or was it the unicorn?
Anyways, your game sounds cool, post another screen.

Your wish is my command.

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire...

And I'm 99.9% sure it was a Centaur. The unicorn was the Prince-dude's companion.

M'kay, I finally got a project site up and running for this...

http://projects.rpgi.net/zodiac/

Still working on the demo. As a side note, for the other gamemakers out there - how long are your demos, usually? An hour? Two?

Right now, I'm working on the battlecharsets. I'm on Gemini, and I'm having some trouble with his hair. I'm not sure if you can make sprites or anything, but if you can or know anyone who can help me out with the hairstyle, that'd be great. ^^; Then I can upload him and his profile stuff to the webpage - mwa! Already got themesongs for everyone. We don't need no stinkin' realizers...
Title: Memory
Post by: artoni on April 26, 2005, 12:54:16 AM
Too bad I suck at making MIDIs, otherwise I'd make one to the tune of this. Anyhow, written for the game.

--

If I
Had the chance to start things over
I'd might
But I'm not sure
Would I
Still remember how things were
With you
Or would I just forget?

Thing is
I may have made mistakes before
But I
Don't regret them
You've got
To take the bad with the good
Because
That's the way life is

[chorus]
Life is kind of funny in that way
Things never stay quite the same
It's a roller coaster hold on tight
You're in for the ride of your life

Did you
Ever think of what would happen
If life
Wasn't this way
Where would
Me and you be if we never met
That day
So long ago

It's true
We've had our ups and had our downs
But I
Think it was worth it
It's been
A lifetime I would never trade
For all
The riches in the world

[chorus]

Sometimes
I look back on what I've done
And I'm
Not that impressed
But still
It's made me who I am today
And I
Am proud of who I am

Do you
Feel the same about these things
Or am
I talking to myself
And if
You had the chance to start things over
Would you
And never meet me

[chorus 2x]

It's one of the songs I have in mind for it.  Though it has an original tune.
Title:
Post by: AsakuraHao2004 on April 26, 2005, 04:55:46 PM
That reminds me of a song by The Cure.

Anyways, with all those lyrics, are you planning on having someone sing/record them, or just having the tune with no words?
Title:
Post by: artoni on April 26, 2005, 05:00:32 PM
For now, I'm not expecting anything but a MIDI that the words could go to. MAYBE (yes, that is a big maybe), I can record it with a friend or something. But that's assuming I could get ahold of resources I don't have right now.

What with RPGInfinity going down, I've had to find a new place to host my game. I've decided on Geocities, although I have some other places I'm looking into for the demo when I actually release it.

The webpage isn't exactly done, but critism on the layout is welcome.

Your game seems very thought out and the graphics so far look great.  Keep up the good work.  Website looks good too, don't worry about it not being done now, it will get there with time.

It's been a long, long while. And what do I have to show for it?

A nifty Flash trailer!

that trailer was killer. really cool. did you do the character artwork by yourself?
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on February 04, 2006, 01:53:25 AM
Whoa, sweet trailer! This looks really good. I like the story a lot, and the concept of the characters. I think it's a pretty unique use of the Zodiac. Keep up the good work!

OMG It's Artoni! Haven't seen you for a long time.

And I agree with CK. The trailer is flippin sweet. It makes me want to play your game... and I rarely play RM games.

Title:
Post by: artoni on February 04, 2006, 04:23:05 AM
Honesty is good. In your opinion, Kirby, what could it have used to be less meh?
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 04, 2006, 04:57:54 PM
I kinda agree with Kirby, it was okay, but not that greatest. It did get me interested tho. I like the concept of the Zodiac, and it seems you've been working on this for a long time. Can't wait for a demo. ^^
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on February 04, 2006, 05:06:06 PM
It was really really meh IMO. Didn't show a whole lot, and sorta felt odd that you said there was 12 characters, but you only showed 4 of em.
