Title: "Fester's Quest: Enhanced" Project
Post by: Darkfox on June 11, 2005, 12:39:10 AM
Some old gamers might know Fester's Quest, some liked it and some hated it, but it's still a classic and had many elements that games of that age did not have, it was a game before it's time, and glitchy graphics and sound problems as a result, and therefore got not as much credit as it could have on a newer platform. Well now I am working on the graphics for Fester's Quest Enhanced, this game will hopefully finish an obviously watered down and rushed project by Sunsoft.

Story:

Fester was moonbathing in his recliner enjoying the scenery of an overpopulated pollution sipping his favorite beverage when THE ALIENS INVADED! Seems like it's one of the the things that actually suprises him. Sadly enough Ma-Ma Addams had warned about an invasion as foretold by her crystal ball but everybody was too busy doing their usual things to listen so Ma-Ma Addams put up a protective cloaking spell long enough to keep the alien critters from beaming them up.

Uncle Fester decides to pick up his vaccum gun and send those aliens back to whatever planet they came from, and save the people as well. Without them, he can have the relaxing noises.

Planned Features:

Upgradable gun, or downgradable, watch out for red powerups.
Enemies who leave random items upon destruction, or nothing at all.
A lacking in the original game: A score count.
Original enemies and features.
Smoother dungeon crawling.
Enemies instead of just appearing are beamed in.
Remixed music and enhanced graphics.
Better sound effects and better explosions when monsters are defeated.
360 degree movement for monsters and the player instead of the original 4 directions only.
2 new songs: 1 for the mothership and the other for the final boss.
DIOLOGUE!! A missing element in the old NES game.
Better HP bar
A thing that says "PAUSE"

Planned tool to use: Game Maker

A manual will be created somtime as well.

Don't remember that game, but anything Addams family is always welcome.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: The evil alien abduct Gomez as part of the game's storyline. I think that was part of it, the game itself had no diologue except for Lurch saying "You rang...?"

Lurch was so cool... Are the others gonna be in it, like Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle It, and thing? You gotta have Uncle It.

You were talking to me about this on MSN, sounds pretty good, good luck with it.

Yes they will be in it. I may throw in others from the old series.

Also: For you cheaters there won't be a "Thing gives you a potion" glitch/bug in boss battles. That'll be another enhancement that will prevent people from using that shortcut to defeat the boss.

Update: Upon encounter I have discovered something interesting about the first boss that was only in the Prototype. The first boss has a mouth in it's stomach that shot out fireballs or somthing like that. This may be somthing that can will be available in a higher difficulty setting in this project.

Sounds crazy. Good crazy. The only AF game I've ever played was my friends on Game Boy Pocket, for about 10 minutes, like, 6 years ago.

Unfortunately the conversion program for NES music is not functioning correctly. It keeps corrupting the Midis.

It is so sad... A great topic kick...From a new member that ask how a game from wich the last update was 1 year and 4 months ago...

Well I donīt know but because of the fact that Darkfox havnīt added anything new Iīd say itīs dead.

So June 2005 was over a year ago?
I thought we were in early 2006?
don't great projects take time to complete? like, if you have a job for example?
Title: Not dead, heavily delayed

Ok, lack of motivation on my part, but to show that I haven't up and quit I'm going to give some finished enemy specs thus far.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v122/ShinDarkfox/Sprites/FQCyclops.png - Psyclops: Powerful one eyed floating alien that constandly lobs green plasma but when they are hurt the fire fast moving projectiles that go through walls, they are slow and can be evaded. Additional version is a green one that has no orbiters but instead has an eye it shields so it doesn't take damage.

Thats it so far. Plan to rip some map objects and update the colors.

Some new music tracks are underway too. I've decided to keep the old music, I have them all ripped anyways and they loop good.

Pretty sweet dude, I like how you're using Game Maker for this.

Great idea! I'm sick of playing the original Fester's Quest. I have one of the earlier releases, so I've never actually gotten past the first white building. Instead of being able to go inside, it just resets itself when I enter the building.

Alright, new ones.

From top to bottom:

Slime Replicator: Not very fast but hard to defeat because one hit they multiply. Best weapon to kill them on the spot is dynamite or the rapid fire nail gun.

Skeeter: A floating head alien that waits in rest for Fester, when shot they release mutany mosquitos that cause no damage but cause Fester's joints to stiffin making it harder to move. ALSO there is a second type of Skeeter that travels slowly in the sewer along the ground releasing larvae that will pupate into mutant mosquitos.

Globule: More an obstacle than an enemy, walking over them causes damage but are easily avoided. A few shots and they are easy ways to power up and stock up on items.

Spiny Replicator: Just like Slime Replicator, these are found on the ship.

Fester's Quest was one of the first games I played.. I'm really glad someone cares enough about it to try and remake it. Good luck, Darkfox!
