Title: Sound Problems with Rm2k3?
Post by: DragonBlaze on July 04, 2005, 01:47:20 AM
I've been playing some rm2k3 games lately for fun, but I'm having a few sound problems. Every 5 minutes or so of playing, the sound just dies, and I have to restart my computer. I've turned my sound exelerator and sample rate conversion to their lowest settings, but theres no change. I also notice that the game takes a long time to turn off when this happens as well. My compy is only 3 days old now, so it shouldn't be having any problems like this yet :(

Does anyone else ever have these problems? Is it that rm2k3 is just incompatable with my compy? I'm running advo's version 1.08 if that has anything to do with it.

I don't know if this is the same. But sometimes when I'm playing my MIDIs and stuff. They just suddenly stop and when I play them, there's no sound. Other sound files like .WAV or .MP3 play just fine. For me, all I have to do is play a song, other than a MIDI and then STOP it. If I PAUSE it, MIDIs won't play.

Well it happened once while an MP3 track was playing in rm2k3, so its not just midis that are causing it. Other programs seem to work just fine, I've been playing a few playstation games on my compy and I haven't run into any troubles yet. It's only with rm2k3 games. I reinstalled it to see if it'll help, so far nothing has happened, but i've only been playing it for a few minutes.

Edit: nope sound still dosen't work right. This time though it happened while a track wasn't even playing...

ok, well my guess is there's something wrong with the game itself. not the MIDI files or other souond files. Maybe you have a virus or something.

I have a friend who just a similar (if not the same) problem. The sound just stopped working for rm2k3 on his computer completely. He also tried reinstalling it, but didn't get anywhere. I'm not sure if it ever started working for him again.

Well I used to have this problem on my old compy, but it only happened once and a while. Then the sound stopped working, but then I sent it in to get fixed, and I never had problems again. I really don't think that theres something wrong with my compy though. Its only 3 days old, and rm2k3 is the only program it has problems with.

I'm scanning for viruses now, but I really don't think that its the cause of the error.

That's weird. Sometimes when I'm just listening to MIDIs while game creating, after a while, they'll turn into a piano tune. It'll still be the same song, but it's no longer like a midi, but a piano. Pretty weird, but that's besides the point. Maybe if you tried getting a different rm2k3, and not rpgadvo's. And like drenrin said, it might just be the game. Have you tried playing any other games to see if it still occurs?

Yeah I played two differant games, happened both times. I swear someone is trying stop me from working on my game. I have three computers in my room, and not one of them works well enough to run rm2k3...

Hmm maybe I'll work with rmxp a bit untill I can get the sound fixed. I'm afraid if it keeps doing this, it'll damage my system like it did with my last computer when I had these problems. :(

Try playing a song in media player (mp3) and playing a midi using rm2k3. keep trying this, and when the midi eventually plays, STOP the mp3 DO NOT PAUSE IT!

in fact, NEVER pause windows media player when runnning a game.
