Due to an enthusiastic response at my idea, plus a lot of members making charsets now, I've started a charset contest.
The contest will be about skill, NOT about how quickly you can churn charsets out. Therefore, the contest will have a large time limit so that everyone, fast or slow at spriting, can enter a high quality charset.
New rules:
~ No objects. The charset must be of something living, or a robot or something.
~ Template allowed, but ONLY the one provided
Judges:
~ Maxine
~ Legendary Troy
PROBLEMS: One more Judge needed!

hey sure ill compete... why not! we just make a character rite? so why not ill try somthing new!
-
*Eyes Insane*
Sure, let's go.
But I think we should have a particular "theme". Just to make it more fun... :)

I'm not sure... Some people might have ideas they want to do, and I prefer to keep it as creative as possible.
Thanks, you two. This means I won't win, then :D

This forum is for charas project's OFFICIAL contests.
MOVED to all of all.
-
I'll try my hand at this, even though I suck at spriting.
As for the judging, I say that we do it like the smiley contest and the mod elections: people just post which charset they like the most, and the one with the most votes wins. That way, it's not biased, and everyone can compete. You just have to have a rule that you can't vote for yourself.
As for theme... I don't like that idea. I have a few good ideas for charsets, and not all of them are original, so it would just limit creativity.
On the other hand, if someone didn't know what to sprite, a theme would help them get started.
-
Good Idea! But the theme thing wouldn't work to well. I agree with Warxe for the voting.
-
If this get's very well orginized, it would be fabulous.
-
I'll compete
-
Moosetroop, I need to know a bit about the rules:
-Am I able to submit multiple charsets, or just one?
-Do they have to be 100% custom (completely from scratch without a template) or are templates allowed?
-Do they have to be original characters?
-What is the prize for winning?
-
Should I post the chara on this thread when I am done?
-
I agree with Warxe. The way that we should do the voting is by post. There shouldn't be any specific judges, we as charas will be the judge.
-
*cough*mylastpostforawhile*cough*
Anyhoe, I'm gonna enter when I'm back, but I hope that there's not going to be a theme as I allready have an idea.
-
I would gladly make 1st 2nd and 3rd place winner banenrs.
-
This sounds great! I'd like to participate, although I know I won't win. :|
As far as voting on a winner, don't make a poll. There's a glitch that lets you vote multiple times. That glitch ruined the Smiley contest, so just make a voting thread when the contest is ending, then you can just count who voted for who.
-
I'd like to compete. *Eyes competition* [STRIKE]uh oh[/STRIKE] you're goin down!
-
ok. so this is just walking charasets?
well i really like making battlecharasets, so im not going to compete... BUT i think something that would rock is if we did have a VERY general theme.
For example...
we could have "final fantasy" as a theme, or "tall" as a theme.
or maybe no theme at all...
Having a contest is going to be hard if we cant compeare the sets somehow...other than "these are all spriteart...wow."
maybe...um...
we could require a full spritesheet.
Like,
1chara :male hero
2chara :female hero
3chara :monster
4chara:animal
5chara:transportation chara
6chara:male villan
7chara:female villan
8chara:origional idea
that seems like a good idea to me..how bout u guys?

Sorry Kijuki. I forgot to mention that I gave him permission to officialize this contest, assuming it gets off the ground.
-
I vote for that we don't have a theam becouse I am alredy done with my chara
-
Right... I don't want a theme, and alot of people have agreed. However, I think it would be best if the charset was not an object, though it can be a monster, so that should be in the rules.
The voting should be a thread where everyone posts which charset they like best (not a poll, actual posts) and that way it'd be nearly impossible to cheat, unless you signed up double users which would just be sad _sweat_
ONE charset per person, I think. Choose you best and attatch it.
I think, as for templates, they should be allowed, but... If there's going to be a template involved, there will only be ONE that everyone uses. This will ensure fairness. Of course, if you don't want to use the template, you don't have to. The 'official template' I have attatched.
Kijuki_Magazaki, if you could make banners for first second and third prizes, that would be brilliant :)
Erm... Should it just be walking charsets or poses too? I'd like your thoughts on this one, people :]]
-
ok so we just make a walking aorund character i see...human or monster...template or not.....about the poses....i personally dont mind but i kno not everyone is as good at poses as they are spriting
-
How about originality? Do the characters have to be original?

Good question. Are you thinking about your bad guy sprites?
Hmm. I'd say it doesn't have to be original. It doesn't affect your ability to sprite, after all. In fact, trying to turn something else into a charset gives the added responsibility of making it accurate, so it shouldn't give them an advantage.
-
Shoul I post the charset here on this thread right now?
-

Nah. Actually, I wanted to draw a Shy Guy. But I have some other ideas too, so we'll see what happens. But thanks for clearing that up.

Not yet, wait until everything's arranged, and I'll start a new thread for the submitting.
-
Oookay
-
I would love too give some thaughts for each of ur Sprites :D
-
Sweet bejesus, this reached the fourth page?!?
Okay, Legendary Troy has agreed to judge. Next question for debate: Is one judge enough?
-
No, I think we should have 3. Its a good number, and the winner isn't only decided by one person's view. We don't want any sucking up, do we...
-
True, true, but what if they all go for different people?
-
Each of them can award points to each charaset, kinda like the Resource contests we used to have. Then, whoever has the highest score at the end wins.
-
I will join.. I've been meaning to make a sprite for a while now..
Just to get the juices flowing again..
If only it was monster making contest... I would own you ALL. Ask Ace and Darkfox.

Indeed- what I mean is that if there's three judges, they may all vote for different ones and therefore three people would win.
Perhaps we could have an emergency judge. If all three give a point to different charsets then the emergency judge decides which one of the three is best...
-
*Pokes*
If we don't get more judges, this idea will go up in smoke.
-
if u let me i would wanna judge aswell... But only if u let me
-
Sure, so long as you're not competing. Sorry, I didn't see your post on the second page :D
Anyone else? C'mon, one more person!
-
Ah well, I'll sacrifise myself then.
-
Nooooooo! You can't doooooooooooooooo this!!!! *Sheds a tear*
I know that you really wanted to compete. If no-one else volunteers... *Pause for dramatic effect* I'll judge.
-
I actually don't have any time to create a charset. So I'll judge.
-
Very well. Drace, Legendary Troy and Maxine are judges. Let the contest BEGIN!!!
-
yay!!! its beginning!! i need to make a character set now! :]]
