Title: Poke'mon Blood Red Version
Post by: Viper__Snake on July 31, 2005, 02:44:39 AM
Version 1 & 2 are NO LONGER available for download. So if you missed them, you're screwed! You will just have to wait for Version 3 to be released. The older versions MAY be hosted on my friend's personal server, however.

Version 3 will be available from the official site upon completion:

http:/www.freewebs.com/pokebrv

FAQ:

Q: OMFG 300MB?! WTF?!

A: That was the bad estimation of Version 1. This game is currently around 30MB. The music is around 30MB. Two easy downloads.

Q: So can I catch the Poke'mon in little balls?

A: No, never.

Q: Is this a Poke'mon Fan Game?

A: This is a Anti-Pokemon Fan Game, also known as a spoof.

Q: Why Poke'mon?

A: The Poke'mon Series has been repeating itself over and over with each new iteration. First we had Red & Blue and those were great, but then Nintendo decided to make more Split Versions each with there own "exclusive" Pokemon in them so that unless you had an action replay or gameshark, you pretty much had to buy the other copy of the game or force a friend to if you wanted to ever catch them all. Why do this when you could simply make a game with all the damn Poke'mon in it? It is one of Nintendo's most sinister, but effective money making schemes. Now don't get me wrong, Poke'mon is a great game that can be addicting; it's just that after awhile you get quite tired of it.

So hows this game coming along?

- Current Version 3 Status -

Items 85%
Monsters 85%
Maps 80%
Characters 95%
Animations 80%
Event Programming 80%
Other Misc Things 80%

Download the Demo now!
Here are the files and maps, be sure to put them in a folder called Poke'mon Blood Red Version

"http://www.freewebs.com/viper__snake/Maps%20and%20Gamefiles.zip" (851K)

Here's the game's folders (Charset, Chipset, etc.) (MP3's NOT INCLUDED)

"http://www.freewebs.com/viper__snake/PokeBRV.zip" (33 MB)

Here's a mirror of the above file since many people keep telling me they have slow downloading issues with it.

If you find an error besides missing music, a chipset conflict behind a few houses, or missing facesets; please post it here and you're name will be in the credits as a tester for the next demo release.

Also please check the resources for the ones that didn't get credit because I couldn't find out the author's name and make sure I didn't forget to credit you. If I did forget, you'll see your name in the next demo release.

Hello. It's been awhile since I've said anything around here.

I am going to release a demo version of Poke'mon Blood Red Version as soon as I find a place to host it. So if any of you have
any ideas throw them out. We are talking around 133 MB here people.

Poke'mon Blood Red uses the traditional Poke'mon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Graphics in most areas to make it look
like its really Poke'mon and I even ripped music for the areas.

People who test this game or contribute to it will earn a spot
in the credits.

A lot of you are already there because I have used some of your
Resources. If you want to view the credits go to the "Pascal Truck" and hit enter at the door. You will also unlock Ghoul Blade
so try him out and see how you like him.

If you kill Bill Gates you get the User Name Hack which allows you
to access the BONUS OPTIONS on your PC. You can enable switches and one of the switches enables a little Sonic Toy that runs mindlessly back an forth around your room. Talking to it lets you access Sonic minigames which I am working really hard on. The only one that is completable is the first one.

Features include:

Gender choice with multiple graphics
Secrets
Minigames
Real Poke'mon Sprites
Unlockable Character(s)
Lots of Items and Upgrades
Killing Poke'mon
Side Scrolling Areas
A few other things I can't seem to remember

Wow. Those screens look nice! I'm not a fan game hater, btw. Ahahaha, killing pokemon. Just what many players have wanted to do since the days of red/blue.

The game looks fun 'n all, but...300 MB?! Nobody will download this. 300 MB on a fast connection will take at least  6 hours or more to download.

300 MB... what the heck do you have in there?!
You said you ripped music from the games... MP3 (or even worse, WAV) files can GREATLY increase the filesize.  I suggest using the MIDI's at VGMusic, though I don't know how good they are.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on July 31, 2005, 03:05:13 AM
Yeah, that is a big file size. Oh, well. I suppose I could wait... or maybe I just wouldn't download it.

By the way, 300 MB is all my host can hold. And the site no longer accepts new members, so good luck. You seriously need to check though all of your resources, mainly your music and sound effects, and see if you have any .wav's or .mp3's. If you do, get rid of 'em and replace them with midis. The SFX...well, I dunno why a SFX would be big...but yeah, mainly check your music folder for mp3's or wav's.

Post by: drenrin2120 on July 31, 2005, 04:32:10 AM
ok, this gamel ooks good, but they've got a point with the 300 MBs, you won't find a server that will host a 300 MB pokemon fangame. sorry.

I just have one question, does your game use a CBS or DBS and can you catch pokemon and do all that other stuff regularly?
Title:
Post by: FFL2and3rocks on July 31, 2005, 04:41:35 AM
300MB or not, I'd play it, simply because of the POKEMON KILLING!!! :guns:
Title:
Post by: AsakuraHao2004 on July 31, 2005, 04:55:34 AM
Cool game, but fuck the 300 mbs.
Title: 300MB is now 133MB
Post by: Viper__Snake on July 31, 2005, 04:28:05 PM
Good news people. I was able to reduce the size to 133MB.
I had a lot of duplicate files.
You see the size is big because I ripped music from the Pokemon games as MP3s.

I might make a version for people with slower connections that uses only midis, that would reduce the file size significantly.

*Update*
I also found a host. http://www.1webspace.org/index.php
I am going to have the MP3's as a separate download.
I will upload the demo version as soon as I reconfigure it
(I renamed a few files) and create an installer.
Expect me to upload it later today.

Those pictures are a little to small don't you think?

lol looks pretty funny to me! The other screens looks pretty good tho.
Title: More Information...
Post by: Viper__Snake on August 01, 2005, 02:12:00 PM
Oh lol that blue cape guy is Ghoul Blade. He's my second original character. You get him when you beat the game. I've uploaded his battlechar to the complete resources so you can take a look at him. The trainer doesn't actually participate in battle until he finds a suitable weapon. In fact you won't even be able to play as the trainer until the next demo comes out.

I was going to upload the file yesterday but my wireless connection is so bad 11Mbps!!!! So I'll just burn the files to a CD
and upload them at my friends house *hopefully* today.

This is game is mostly about killing Poke'mon, but I wanted it to have cool little weird things and some really bizzarre secrets to help keep the experience interesting and nonmontonous.

Remember when you're playing this game that it is not complete and that this is just a very small chunk of what the Final Version will be.

Current File Sizes:

Poke'mon Blood Red Version
(With MP3 Music)
(With Runtime Package) < 149MB MB >

Poke'mon Blood Red Version
(Without MP3 Music)
 (With Runtime Package) < 55.1 MB >

Poke'mon Blood Red Version
(MP3 Music) < 93.7 MB >

Hmm, the rtp is about 20 mbs, that means without the rtp and without the mp3s your game is roughly 35 mbs. I'm guessing you have a ton files stuck in your project that you don't use, and a lot of those files are .bmp. I highly suggest that you take out all the stuff you don't currently use, convert them all to .pngs or .xyzs, and upload that without the rtp.

You have to worry about the bandwidth on your server, if your files are really big, your game may only be downloaded a few times before your site goes down for a month.

There is no reason a pokemon game with pokemon graphics should use mp3s. One or two is fine, and they sound really good when used right, but you don't need a game full of them. You can either convert them to midi format, download the midis from the internet, or get original midis.

All that aside, your game looks pretty good, I just hope theres a story to it besides just killing pokemon, otherwise it would get old fast.

If you can get a version under or around 20 mbs, I'll download it.

Actually, RPG Maker 2000/2003 (not sure about XP) automatically converts the files to .png when you import them.

I didn't understand a word of what you just said (It helps if you spread out your punctuation, not put it in a big clump at the end). But it's his game, and his decision. I think it looks good, Pokemon gets so annoying. Most people hate it, yes. And it looks very good to me, not, as you put it, "terrible".  _sweat_

Anyways Viper, looks very nice to me. ;)

Ahhh the flood of opinions.

I knew a few haters would come up sometime. Believe or not, I actually like the Poke'mon games and I still play them every now and then. I just thought it would be funny to make a spoof of the classic, tiring, and repetitive Poke'mon series. If I am going to make fun of a game, at least its one thats good. It's kind of like what Space Balls did to Star Wars except with a lot of blood.

I'm playing it now! :) I'll make sure to tell you of all errors I see.

EDIT: Here's a couple...

-Throughout the game there are a lot of places that end up in an error message coming up because it tries to open a file that doesn't exist.
-In the minigame where you control Shadow in the zombie town, once you light the torches, you can walk on top of the torches.

You odviously haven't read the thread completely. The game is no longer 300MB it is 33MB.

To FFL2and3rocks:

Could you please tell me the files it says that it's missing? A lot crap had to be renamed which might be the problem.

I knew about the Shadow minigame's torch thing, but I forgot to fix that in my rush to upload the game. Thanks for the reminder!

You're name will not only be in the resources but also the testers now.   ;)

Pokemon Graphics + Zelda Graphics = Bad.

Seriously, you should consider changing all of your graphics to Pokemon ones if you're going to make a Pokemon game.

Sure, just gimme some time to play through it again and I'll write 'em down.

EDIT: I'll just edit what I find into this post. I doubt I'll find all of the missing files though.

Charsets
----------
Super Character
Viper Snake-1

Panorama
----------
Zelda Sand 2
Whichever panorama you used in the Hmm....Castlevania? map
Faceset
----------
Golden Sun 7
MegamanExe13

Music
*Note: There are a lot of music files that are in the Map Properties set to be a map's BGM that I can't read the full name of because it doesn't fit in the BGM box; those won't be listed here.
----------
richbrf_-_Super_Mario_Bros_Dirty_Mix(Super_Mario_Bros.)
Rock Solid
castlib
Z4 Final Begin

And for some reason when I open the game in RM2k3 I can't access the Battle Layout or M. Groups tabs.

Ok, here's the deal. I had no access to the internet for quite awhile when I started making this game. I had no Poke'mon chipsets to work with. So the entire game was made using Zelda Chipsets.

I've been converting the game to Poke'mon but as you can see there are a few areas that haven't been converted.

The "Mammoth Forest" is the only area that might not be converted because it matches its name with it's giant trees.

Thankyou so much I'm going to fix these all right now. The reason a lot is missing is because I was trying to trim the size a lot by eliminating unessecary files.

I can't believe some midi's were left out I thought that I took out just the MP3's.

I'm not sure why you can't access the monster groups/B. Layout tabs but I do know that I sometimes get that error when I install Rm2k3; not sure how to fix it though...

I'm working on updating everything right now.

I can't go in the cave below Smallsville because "Zelda Sand 2 could not be opened". Also, in the shop in the 2nd town, talking to the clerk causes "Viper__Snake could not be opened." One other one I found was on the computer I chose Vector Character 1 or something like that and got "Super Character could not be opened." Other than this, there needs to be more music. A title and battle theme would help a lot. Otherwise, I like the way this is coming along. It's funny. Looks like something my one friend would make up.

Thankyou all for the support. My computer has a horrible virus right now; I'm lucky to even be talking to you. I have a updated version of the game made already fixing every bug that has been discovered. This will have to wait because I must reformat my computer. Don't worry I saved it to a CD-R. Thankyou some much for your support.

If you get the time, I suggest changing the battle system to poke'mon style. Quite a few of the battlechars are in the complete resources, and you could do it with the DBS.

Also, if you want, I'll send you monster sets of all the original poke'mon. I got it from somewhere obscure... I probably won't check this thread again so E-mail me if you need them :)

Thanks for all the support people, I've been getting several people that
like this project adding me to MSN Messenger.

I'd be happy for you to put this game on your site as long as:

   - You give me credit of course (Duh)
   - You include one of my email (ViperSnakeX@gmail.com or viper__snake@hotmail.com)
   - Say something about how its being discussed in Chara's Forum.
   - You think your website can handle the bandwith/filesize
as the game grows to the Final Version. Hopefully it won't go up to MUCH :)

This also applies to anyone who wants to put it on there website.

As far as a classic Poke'mon style battle system I'll think about it; and Moose Troop your definitely correct about the "if you have the time" statement, because I have not a whole lot to spend doing extra things like this...I still might consider it though.

* I would've posted this 5 days ago, but **** happens you know?

Title: Small update of whats going on with developement
Post by: Viper__Snake on September 07, 2005, 01:13:59 AM
My computer's been a mess lately and is one of the biggest reason's I 've slowed down on making Poke'mon Blood Red Version. So I've ordered a 400 Gigabyte Removable USB/Firewire Hard Drive from Tigerdirect.com for $50 which will enable me to organize all the junk on my computer. I'll probably get it by Friday.

Besides that the game is coming along quite smoothly, hopefully I be able to release more information on it soon with screenshots.

Best of luck to other people making games with Rm2k3. :)

To X Marks the Ed: The Freewebs site looks nice, and I like the screenshots you captured for my game. Nice work. My only (and totally optional) suggestion is that you put a small description of what the games are about.

It's 9:05 AM and right now I'm in school. I've got two great screenshots of Version 2 back at my house. I will take a few more when I get home later today and upload a new screenshot poster. So check back later.

To X Marks the Ed: Haha, nice description.  :D

EDIT: Looks like those two screenshots just transformed into a massive poster, lol. It took 2 extra days to do them because I'm just SO BUSY!

Jesus Christ. When you said 'Blood Version.' You meant  'Blood Version. That guy in the coldesacked vally ****ing explosed from the inside out.

Well, there's Sonic and I think Tails as well in there. That's sort of a bad idea, or so I think. Plus... Does that yellow snake Pokemon use guns? Little strange as well.

There's alot of Copoff's work in there, heh.

Looking really good Viper, but I probaly won't play it, as I dreadfully hate pokemon. So, if I didn't despise it, I would say looking good.

That yellow snake is Viper__Snake. The point of the game is to kill the freaks, not capture them in those retarded little balls.

Whoops accidently sent you a private message Hell Angel. I meant to click quote.

I'm just using you as an example that people should read up on the subject a little more before they say something. This is a ANTI POKEMON GAME for people who have tired of the series. The yellow snake is NOT a Poke'mon it's Viper Snake; and you are trying kill every Poke'mon because they have all decided to try and enslave mankind. At least you didn't think Viper's a giant worm, lol...

Oh and Copoff wherever you are, you're resources ROCK. You can bet you're name is in the credits.

Sonic and Tails are cameos; they are part of a small minigame. There's a lot of references in my game, see if you can find them.

EDIT: Lol, X marks the Ed must have posted at the same time as me.
Title: New Trailer Version 2 Trailer Coming Soon
Post by: Viper__Snake on September 14, 2005, 05:06:14 PM
I'm more than likely to release a small trailer of Version 2. I've got a bunch of footage; I just have to edit it and stuff in Windows Movie Maker. You won't be able to hear Audio from the game with recorder I'm using, but at least the video is pretty good. I'll just have to put some music in the background. At the end it'll show the people who've tested and helped out with the game. There will be a little bit of content from Version 1 but mostly Version 2. I should probably be able to finish it when I get home from school today.

Title: Music for Version 2 Now Available
Post by: Viper__Snake on September 16, 2005, 06:38:56 PM
Here it is:

http://rapidshare.de/files/5184097/Poke_mon_Blood_Red_Version_2_Music.zip.html

Also available at the official site.
< OLD >

As soon as I get home today I'm going to upload the Music for Version 2; which will be in about 1 hour if I don't have to get a haircut right after school; which would add another hour.

This way when it comes to download Version 2, you'll already have the music folder ready and waiting to copy into the game's folder. I really doubt I'll be adding any new music before the game's release; if I do, it'll just be a midi and included with the game.

As for the trailer, I just need a few more good recordings and it will be up.

Title: Resident Evil 4 Merchant
Post by: Viper__Snake on September 17, 2005, 12:47:40 AM
Here's something funny I did. As a tribute to Resident Evil 4, I mimic the creepy merchant's voiceovers. It's really funny if you've played the game and funny if you haven't because the merchant is such an idiot. lol. He's going to be an actual shop you can buy things from...enjoy.

If you want to use them in you're own game, go ahead stranger. Just remember to give credit to me.

This idea has been done before, about the Pokemon being controlled by some force and you have to shoot the living shit out of them in order to protect a bunch of people.  It was an ABS shooter dealey though.  Just telling people who might be confused that the premise isn't super original.

Whoa...and ABS shooter? Was it any good? I'd like to try that game. It might let me make the Resident Evil 4 reference a little more fun. Can you give me the name of it?

That really has nothing to with my game as:

- Poke'mon are NOT being controlled by some force; they betrayed humans because they are tired of being slaves.
- You are not trying to protect anyone; it's every man for himself; the Poke'mon's revolution has created a world of chaos and disorder.

You get them as a small bonus for completing a few secret minigames.

This game is still being made you know, I needed to flip them around but I just wanted to get out some screens asap. The purpose of them is to mainly show you some the new animations.

Thankyou for you're comments, they are greatly appreciated.  ;)

It's been a few weeks since I actually worked on PokeBRV, and I'm going to work real hard on the game all this and next week and possibly release Version 3 itself.

Other than it not useing the original graphics like all other Pkmn fan games and the bs could use a bit of work even modifying the dbs isn't that hard. Some of the map could also use some work.
Anyways good luck with your game.

OK, I'll admit that it does need work on its battle system and its maps, but it does have some original graphics. (Ex: Viper Snake, Ghoul Blade, a few monsters...)

Also, this is NOT a fan game. This is the complete opposite of "fan", try calling it a Poke'mon Hate Game.

Regardless, thankyou for your comments.  :D

Title: ***Update***
Post by: Viper__Snake on February 21, 2006, 06:27:30 PM
Well it' s been quite awhile hasn't it? After Version 2 I went on to work on other non-RPG related things (MUGEN 2 & 3 and HalfLife Mapping, etc.).

Anyway, for the past 3 weeks I've been working on this game; many things have been changed and revamped completely. There are a LOT more maps and the real, actual gameplay is starting to come together. This game has NOT died. :D

Here is whats happened so far:

- 4 Trainers (Your Main Character) are now available to choose from; you can name them and all the characters say different things and have different stats.

- I made my own Facesets for some characters and they look much better than the ones I had gotten from the Complete Resources.

- Fixed several graphical mistakes in some of the chipsets.

- You can now skip the long intro by pressing Enter.

- Revised and more accurate Credits.

- The Stats for Heroes/Monsters has been made MUCH more balanced.

- You can actually PLAY as the character you choose instead of just having Viper Snake fight alone.

- Your main character does not use the same weapons as Viper Snake.

- The game world is about twice as big as Version 2's.

- For those of you that played the real Poke'mon games HM's have been implemented so that after completing a major event (like killing a gym leader) you gain the ability to do something that clear some sort of an obstacle (tree, rock, lake, etc.)

- Some sonic minigames might be changed to something NOT sonic, and some might be taken out. I also will put them in different places instead of having them all accessable from one event.

- The maps that used the Zelda Chipsets have all been converted to Pokemon Chipsets.

- The Poke'mon now face in the correct direction.

- Version 3's climax will probably be a epic battle with Ash Ketchum & Pikachu. That's all I'm going to say about that. :D

- 95% of the game's music is ripped from GBA Pokemon games. It really makes it feel like an actual Pokemon game.

- No sound at all when browsing through menus; the real Poke'mon games really didn't have any anyway, and the noises became annoying after awhile.

- Lots of great new animations, and not just for battle either. ;)

Comments & Suggestions appreciated.

Do you have any new screens? Or is a new demo just about ready? ;)
Title:
Post by: Viper__Snake on February 22, 2006, 01:20:42 PM
My new computer came yesterday and I spent all of my time assembling it. I might post some new screenshots when I get home today. There is still a lot of eventing and a little bit of mapping to be done before I release the demo for V3.

EDIT: I have a few non-Rm2k3 related things I must get done as soon as possible on my new computer before I continue to work on this game at all. I'm not sure how long it will take me to do it since I've never done it before. Also, I'm not sure if I want to focus on showing off my game and all the new features until I am done with all the eventing and mapping; I will probably do this when reducing the filesize by deleting unused files.
Title: New Title Screen

Thanks :D

EDIT: The next update will be a release. :D

DOUBLE EDIT: Well, scratch that a little, this game has changed quite a bit, and is a lot more consistent with its actual gameplay now...I'll probably post a few more screens and then have a release a little later...Poke'mon Blood Red Version 3 stayed private I think...but this release will be Version 4...probably once I get to about Version 10, the Version 11 will just be called "Final" and anything after that will but be little fixes or small updates hopefully.
