Title: Best Beat Um Up
Post by: Drace on August 16, 2005, 06:12:49 PM
Ok, I'm searching for a new Beat Um Up game(Also know as Fighting game) and I want the public opinion. What do you say is the best Beat Um Up? And please stay in the Playstation 2 area.

Anyhoe, I find the Tekken and Mortal Kombat series very good. I've played Tekken 1 to 4 and have Tekken Tag Tournament(One of the best BUU games).

Mortal Kombat soon gets a new one in it's series, called Shaolin Monks. But I want to try something else.

So.......

I say bloody roar 4. I love the speed, I played tekken afterwards and it seemed so slow. Besides its fast pace, it has great moves and combos, plus you morph into some sweet creature hybrids.

Soul Calibur III is coming out in a few months. Should I wait till that one of just go ahead and buy Sould Calibur II?

EDIT: DragonBlaze, thank you. I played the first Bloody Roar and it was way better and faster then Tekken and MK. Though, sadly enough, GameSpot only gives it a 6.2. Ah well, maybe I'll check it out. If I can find it in a store that is.

Yeah, I downlaoded BR2 before buying the 4th one, although most of the downloaded game didn't work. I only spent $15 on it, and I wouldn't recommend spending much more than that, then again, I haven't bought a game in the past 3 years that was over $20.

I read the review, and it didn't make much sence. It said it was fast pace, good graphics, a good frame rate. The things it said were bad was the poorly translated dialogue, easy combos, and the fact that you had to kill the player in both their human and beast form. Other than that, they didn't like how some characters were designed, how some of the beast forms were simular to others, and that it wasn't much of a change from ealier versions.

In short, the things it got nocked down for are just minor stuff, I liked the game better then tekken. But I'd recomment renting it or finding it really cheap rather then spending a lot for it.

If you also like 2D Fighters, Marvel VS Capcom 2 is a good choice, though somewhat rare.  The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection is pretty fun, especially if you used to play SF 2 back in the day.

Which MKs have you played?  I'm assuming you've played Deception (the better of the two on PS2), but Deadly Alliance is still pretty good.

Wait, your confused. Beat-em-Ups differ from VS Fighters. There are places that are stupid enough to put them together as 1 genre but there are destinct differences. Beat-em-ups are open field with many enemies, examples of beat-em-ups is: Dragonball Advance and Double Dragon (Not the SNES title that was a VS Fighter and sucked)

The upcoming Namco X Capmon looks the TITS. Over 150 characters from many a game, like Megaman, Klonoa, Tekken. Stunning Anime fun!

I have to agree with SKII, although close behind in second place is Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and Tekken 3. Also, I like Bloody Roar 3 (I think that's the number, I just played a demo at some game store, but it kicked *** nonetheless)

Here's an example of what a true Beat-em-up is like... even though this is NES, it should give a good idea.

Another example is the arcade Dungeons and Dragons titles.

Well most sites I go to refer them as Beat-em-Ups. So it really isn't my mistake.

A few years back the reference of what is a Fighter and Beat-em-up became screwed up. Stupidly, game people placed them in the same genre despite their VAST differences. One of the worst ideas the gaming community had. Almost as bad as an idea as Final Fantasy 12... <.< >.> ahem...

Ah well, still. I like the real Beat-em-Ups too. Games like God of War, Devil May Cry, Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks(it has an option for it), Tekken 3(also has a Beat-em-Up option) are very fun to play.
