Title: Carpe Diem: The Living Flame
Post by: Linkforce on August 25, 2005, 09:08:10 PM
Well, since my old thread is no longer active, I have decided to make a new thread with updated things.  This one will be much cleaner and more accesable.  So, here goes.

Story:200 years after the events that took place in the past, life on Kelevor was beggining to rebuild itself. With the uprising of the new Western King and the starting of the war, 4 years ago, things have begun to fall apart. The Soul Flames (refrence at my site) which have been guarded for 200 years, are beggining to be stolen and fake copies are being made for deception. Tensions rise as people begin to remember the chaos that erupted from them so many years ago. And to add to this, with the Zylacs (refrence at my site) sudden overhauling appearances, there seems to be more things happening then the eye can see.

Characters:

Skylar Lancaster

Title: New Screen
Post by: Linkforce on August 27, 2005, 11:27:37 PM
Probably wondering how a lab and a forest can be in the same intro huh?  Dont worry...it can be done. :p

It may seem a bit empty, but then again, it isn't a forest, it is a man made lab.  lol  Enjoy! :D
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 27, 2005, 11:29:40 PM
Hey, intros are everywhere! Why not under the sea and out in space in the same intro?  :p

Nice screen. How different is this demo gonna be from your old demo?
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 27, 2005, 11:31:57 PM
Pretty diff.  Brand new intro...brand new attitude of characters...brand new appearances...and a new bio for some.  All for the better though. :D
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 27, 2005, 11:33:47 PM
Good to hear!  :D

Will there still be a  Zylac attack?
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 27, 2005, 11:35:34 PM
No...but they will still attack ;)  The attack was too crumy IMO.  Dont worry.  There will still be Zylac goodness. :D
Title:
Post by: dragoninja on August 28, 2005, 12:15:36 AM
Look at those protection suits... (the guys in the lab that is)

are they expecting and sudden mutated lifeforms to appear?
Anyways, Nice job. And yes, you have sharply improved on making maps, no denying on that :)

Cool! I hope I don't sound stupid asking, but I've been wondering for a while, what does IMO mean? I've seen it on multiple occasions but never asked.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 28, 2005, 12:30:38 AM
Lol, well they are wearing those protective uniforms because they are dealing with a Soul Flame.  Very powerful relics with unknown powers.  So they are just being safe.  Thanks for the comments though. ^^

And coasterkrazy, IMO means :In My Opinion.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 28, 2005, 12:34:29 AM
Thanx. Lol, I'm probably gonna be saying it all the time now like I always knew what it meant.  :D

They are the basis of the whole story.  But I've never really elaborated on them. ^^  On my site though, it talks about them.  Story section if you want to see.
Title:
Post by: dragoninja on August 28, 2005, 02:13:39 AM
Right, because you never mentioned them much on your last Carpe Diem Thread...
Another thing, did you ever mention what exactly these soul Flames does???
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 28, 2005, 02:16:05 AM
Well, on the site it says what they DID in the past.  Now, they are kept secret from the public, but are beggining to surface.  As shown in the screen, a Soul Flame has been found and is in the hands of an evil organization.
Title: New Screen
Post by: Linkforce on August 28, 2005, 06:53:11 PM
Its from the same intro.

WARNING: This screen will most likely want you to know more.  But guess what?  I wont say anything!  lol.  ;) Seriously........lol Enjoy. :D

Post by: Linkforce on August 30, 2005, 12:48:05 AM
Well, i think its about the right time for an update.  And some screens. ;)

Update: Well, now that I've finally thought out my whole intro and have the maps I need for it made, all thats left to do is just finish eventing it.  And its about 90% done.  The next demo will include 3 chapters, and gameplay will be at least a few hours.  With new graphics and such, everything will look and play much much better.  Anyways, here's two screen from part 2 of the intro.

Enjoy! :D

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Merchant.png
Skylar is walking down this long road.  Luckily, a friendly passing merchant offers him a ride.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Merchantgivesride.png
While riding in the carraige, Skylar tells the merchant where he is headed, which also infroms the player as well.

Comments are appreciated. :D

Post by: blackskullwarlock on August 31, 2005, 12:12:18 AM
Nice screenshots and it's good to see that everything is running smoothly.

I like the lab scene, for a reason that you already know. I'll comment again as the game progress...or atleast reach a higher point that the introduction.

On a side note, I like the chipset you used for the screenshot with the carriage...even tho the street is a bit...unrealistic.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 31, 2005, 12:19:46 AM
That one guy in the lab is Soma Cruz! I'd recognize that charset anywhere since I got it off the internet and then made a sub-par battlechar from it. The game looks great. Keep it up!
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 31, 2005, 12:30:45 AM
Thankks for the comment BSW. ^^

And coasterkrazy which guy are you talking about?
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 31, 2005, 01:11:08 AM
There he is. I think I made it clear who I'm talking about. ;)
It's ok, though. I like Soma. It's funny that's the second time I spotted his charset in a game. First he's a teenager with dark powers, then he's a bartender (someone else's game), now he's a scientist! What will he do next? XD

That's cool, though. Keep him in there.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on August 31, 2005, 03:13:10 AM
I dont know who Soma Cruz is, but in my game he isn't a scientist.  He's some evil guy....thats all I'll say for now.  lol

Time for an update.  This is just to show the progress on the demo.

Chapter 1: Maps- 80%  Events- 90%

Chapter 2: Maps: 95%  Events- 30%

Chapter 3- Maps: 45%  Events- 0%

Im trying to move quickly, but efficiently.  Expect some screens soon to show progress.  Thanks for reading. ^^

So, how long is each chapter exactly?
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 04, 2005, 02:36:08 AM
Hmm...If I had to take a guess.  It would probably be around hour and a half per chapter.  Most likely.

I love how it takes sometimes days to complete what only takes ten minutes in game, don't you?
Title:

Not really.  Sometime I can make 10 min. in 20 min.  It all depends on what you're making/doing really.

You! You stole my character name! XD

Nice job on the chapter length! I really like the idea of 1:30 hours of gameplay for the second demo! I still support you!

Off topic: I got you a chipset you could use for the town you're making, Linkforce. You might have it though...

On topic: Looking forward to the demo!

Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 05, 2005, 05:17:13 PM
Thanks.  ^^  I'll get to work on the map right away. ^^  And its an 1:30 min per chapter.  So its pretty long. :D
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on September 05, 2005, 11:11:00 PM
1H30 minutes per chapter? Sounds good to me. I know I'll play the entire game because I know for a fact that it won't be boring.

The above chipset is a mix of Breath of Fire II, RTP and some other parts. Not a bad chipset but I've seen better. The skip between Temeri and that will be big.

I wish I had time to work on a game, hmph. I'll remain a spectator for now.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 05, 2005, 11:13:01 PM
Thanks BSW. :D  Good that I have a witness who says it is good. ;)
As for the chipset, thats not for my game.  So dont worry.  ^^

Let's see here.

Master Link, I've completed the church that you've asked of me.

If you need it to be bigger or have more rooms or something just tell me, because I don't know what goes through your head... or at least not yet.

Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on September 06, 2005, 09:16:05 PM
Haha! You linked it en? I myself don't think I did very well on it, but that's probally because I didn't put events in. I'll have to remember that if I ever do put events in to send you the bodies of the events too, because it won;t work if I don't.

Edit- Btw, I'm ready anytime you are for the next map asignment.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 06, 2005, 09:17:45 PM
It's ok.  All I need are maps.  I can do all the events.  And you dont even have to add detail if you dont want to.  If I cant do a map, I usually just need something to start me off.  Like a guidline if you will.  Anyways, thanks again.  I'm eventing right now. ^^

Posts deleted as requested. So everyone else that replied to the argument and to my posts, I'm not sure if Linkforce asked you, but delete yours too, they're pointless. However, reguardless of my apology to Linkforce, my outburst towards this game was not some lie conjured because of our fight, I really do feel that way about the game. Though, I shoudn't have just abruptly said it the way I did, so I'll say it in a more civilized manner. In my honest opinion, I do not like the game, and I think it is bad. Sorry, it's just my opinion, but as I said many times before, don't take it too seriously because I'm just one person, you seem to have plenty other fans, so good luck with it.
Title: Screens!!!
Post by: Linkforce on September 08, 2005, 08:29:01 PM
Ok, let's get right back into things.  Here are some brand new screens.  ^^

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/DayontheSurface.png
Once you reach Baven, you must find your friend. (Haru)  Now you know where he is.  ^^  (Map was made by Meiscool)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Whattodonext.png
After meeting up with Haru, you then decide on what to do for Skylars one day.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/BorderBlocked.png
After deciding where they want to go, Skylar and Haru need to cross the border....... Suckes eh?

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/SerpentCave.png
Ultimately, this will lead you to having to cross through the deadly and spike filled Serpent Cave.  XD

Enjoy! :D

That wavy thing in the sepernt cave, does it do that in game, or did you just draw it in? that's pretty cool if it's in the game.

Right, how rude, I haven't commented on your 60 some yearold guy yet.

Well..... the old guy with really tough fists has been played out alot in games. (Legia just to name one off the top of my mind).

In my opinion I think you have enough characters already. You have like 6 or seven right now, and your game is only 1.5 hours per chapter Xs 3 so that's 4.5 hours of gameplay.... and then seven characters in that 4.5 hours.

Let me tell you my opinion. If anyone played the original ff2 from japan, they will know what I mean. That's only supposed to be a 12 hour game with four main guys, but you don't even get one main guy till the very end. You start out with three guys, and the forth person just keeps changing every hour, and it sucks because you equipt em all nice and lvl them up some and theyjust end up leaving you.

So unless you do something drastically cool like ff6's airship where you chould chose between your 15 guys to form a party, and then have the last area use three parties of people so that all characters get used alot, I would recomend not making a whole lot of characters.

hehe.  No no no.  You got it all wrong.  the new DEMO will have 3 chapters.  the game itself will have around 20.  ^^'  He is the last addition though.  7 characters.  Lol.  With 20+ chapters, plenty of time for each character and then some.  :D
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on September 09, 2005, 02:14:51 AM
Oh, I see. Then you could most likely safly add one character every chapter at that, and it would be cool if you did alot of multi party missions. Like, for example, a memory ID where if you press 0 it goes from party to party and they each have to step on switchs and stuff to open doors for the other party to progress.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 09, 2005, 02:30:01 AM
I had something like that in mind, but alas, I dont know how to make it so if you press a key, then it does something like that.  :(

But....I have a system in the game called OTOS.  I'll explain it later, but it can help me with what you suggested.  It will be more complicated though.
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on September 09, 2005, 02:40:50 AM
If anyone remembers when Vyse/Gilder got separated from Aika/Fina and the whole level is dependant on each party of 2 solving a part of the puzzle and then hitting a little icon on the map to change instead of at will.

Dat cool, Nice screenys.
20 Chapters and 7 chars, eh? interesting.
I still think it schucks that I can't download the demo because I'm using a mac... it's unfair >.< (I miss my PC)
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on September 09, 2005, 07:37:18 PM
Oh? You don't know how to do the key processing?

It's input keys, and you can make it to where you store a varible and if that varible ever equals the key you pressed (example, 10=0 key) then it does whatever you set up in the common events as a paralle process.

You know how to make a CMS right? It's kind like that, only it teleports you to the second party instead of the menu.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 09, 2005, 08:04:34 PM
I dont know how to make a CMS, but thanks for the info.  I'll be sure to try it out.  ^^

And dragoninja, when will you have access to a pc?
Title:

There's a turtorial made by young like in the turtorial section, that will give you something to work off of.

You can dl it, you just have to copy it to a pc. I have a thumbdrive for that type of reasons so that I won't use 20,000,000 cd's like I was.

When I buy a new one, OR when we get the old one fixed... and I guess that'll take a while either way... I guess you could send the game via MSN though, cuz this Mac doesn't accept downloads via links. don't ask me why
(I hate moving to a new house... if you do you loose money that you can use for fun stuff)
Title: Update
Post by: Linkforce on September 15, 2005, 04:12:05 AM
Well, with school here, progress has been slow.  But, it's still going good.  Chapter 1 is just about in the books.  Which means that chapter 2 will begin shortly.  But it will go even faster because I already made most of the maps I need for it before hand.
I got the last 2 members of the Arakian Six made, and they'll be on the site tommorow.  Hope you guys are still checkin it, because it's getting updted regularly.
Another thing is that I took the liberty of adding to every characters bio.  This is good because it will add more diversity to each Hero.  Now, none of their pasts are the same/cliche as other games.  They'll be unigue in their own way.
Anyways, what I'm doing now is re-eventing Temeri.  I'm making the citizens more interactive, and I might also add a Mini-game.  There's also the OTOS sytem too.  (Refrence at my site.  Will be up tommorow)

I'll try and get a screen or two up tomorrow if I can.  anyways, thanks for reading guys.  Carpe Diem is still going strong!  :D :D ;)

Post by: blackskullwarlock on September 15, 2005, 08:34:18 PM
An interesting update. We all know that Charas want screenshots but I'll say something else than that.

First, add the last members of the Arakian Six on your website. I guess things will go slower because of school but so long that your game comes out eventually, I got no complaints.

Alkamar is still awesome, with reason. Characters' personality are what makes or kill a game...so your game will...or atleast should...be good. Apart from that, re-eventing Temeri is a nice idea...the peasants were very zombie-like the first time.

Looking forward to the next 'demo' *V.I.P*

Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 15, 2005, 10:43:09 PM
lol, yea...most people would reply only to a screen.  But, I'm glad you like it.  :D  The characters have been added to the site, but their info is not there yet.  A few bios have been added, and they are quite interesting.  Especially Zephyrs.  I suggest you guys check it out.

As for Temeri, now, instead of the lifless people, you can actually start conversations with them.  ^^

Like as in Morrowind? Or does it have more of a point to it, because talking to people in Morrowind got really pointless after awhile.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 15, 2005, 11:28:57 PM
I don't know what Morrowind is, but you dont always have to compare my ideas to other games.  Please explain.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on September 16, 2005, 06:28:39 PM
Right, en Morrowind was like an action RPG that let you wander a world as big as one that's in an MMORPG, but you're all by yourself. Anyways, you could talk to people about at least thirty different subjects each, all pertaining to different things about the game, but none of it really telling you anything or helping you to do the next thing in the game. It was all very pointless, and none of it really helped out any, even though it told alot about the wars and fueds between people.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 16, 2005, 06:33:16 PM
Oh...well, I wont do it like that.  I'll just make the citizens actually talk, instead of saying.  "Hi, its so lovely here"  lol

Alright.

You requested to me to make you a castle map.

Here's the first floor. Tell me if you like how it looks. I didn't detail it, just as you asked. And, yes, It's just a picture. that way, people can't go and take it like the pervious map, which I'm sorry for.
Title:

Well, since charas got messed up, my updates are gone.  Instead, of re-posting them, I'll just post a screen to show that the game is going good still.  This is a screen of the brand new South Castle.  If any of you played the first demo, and saw the South Castle, you can see how much better it looks now.  Anyways, Enjoy! :D

Looks okay, although I'd have a few more guards or aides walking about.

Also, I commend ye for using Dark Lord's Battle theme from Sword of Mana. Very good song, and fits your game pretty well. :)
Title:

Leon: I'm gonna use ff6 soldiers.  Why?  Cause I like them.  Nuff said.  And the screen was kind of just a consept shot.  I'll most likely add more soldiers and a maid.

Dragonium: Thanks, I'll take your advice.  And which song are you talking about?
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on October 04, 2005, 06:07:53 AM
Another screen.  Nothing special, just thought I'd show progress.  This is the entrance to the castle.  Again, it's a concept shot.  More people might be added to it.  Enjoy! :D

I just think they look hideous next to rtp chars.

and btw, The maps are ok, but they look a little bare.

Dragonium: Oh yeah!  Yeah...that song is used for "Royal Fights" in my game.  lol  Thanks for the comment.  ^^

Leon: They do look a bit diferent then RTP stly,e but I like them nonetheless.  And I'll try and add a few plants to the hallway maybe.
Title: Actual Update
Post by: Linkforce on October 07, 2005, 02:11:27 AM
Well, it's time for an update.

Demo Progress- Overall it's going reall good.  I'v ehad a few days off of school, and I managed to get alot done.  I redid alot of Temeri.  Almost all the people and shops are finished.  I also just finished a quest in Temeri involving an angry mayor with a "broken" chimney.  Thats all I'll say.  You'll have to play it for yourself.  ;)  I was thinking of releasing a small "Tech demo" for people who really want to just try it out.  I'll still have to think about it though.    Oh, also, the OTOS system has been perfected.  It will add a nice boost to the development of characters.  Thats basically it.  I'll finish the update with a screen from the intro of Chapter 2.

After the Southern King consults with many business men and such, all he wants to do is sit down and relax.  But Alkamar comes by to see how he is.  Comments are appreciated.  :D

Also, dont forget to check the website daily.  You never know what you'll find.  ;)
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on October 07, 2005, 12:13:44 PM
Alkamar seems to have some link to royalty, how interesting. A quest because of a broken chimney? Another interesting idea which I am looking forward to investigate.

If you need someone for a tech demo test, you know where to call.

your game looks good
by the way now do you do the map save thing
the pic of the heros in the game how do you do that?
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on October 07, 2005, 03:17:08 PM
It all sounds very interesting, I must say. Alkamar seems cool, though I don't know much about him. Glad to hear the OTOS thing will be perfected. It had bugs in the last demo, which were rather inconvenient, but they should all be fixed.

I note that "broken" has quotes around it. I am starting to expect some large animal to have been stuffed down it. I hope I'm wrong. ;)
Title:
Post by: Ace of Spades on October 07, 2005, 07:03:38 PM
Make that map a lot prettier, it lacks life. If you're going for a castle courtyard type of thing, put some gardens in there, it'll make it look better. If not, then add some trees and such, and make that cement path smaller. Nice ideas though, keep up the good work. ^^
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on October 07, 2005, 07:31:54 PM
Ohhh, it's a path! I thought it was a wall at first...

But, as said, Omega is right. You need to liven up your maps a lot.
Here's a little tip or something if you want

Areas should have this if they are this:
Castle Courtyard- Foutains, flowers, animals like butterflies and birds, and bushes
Castle Insides- These are normally bear, depending on castle size. You'll want columes and etc, with the ocasional BIG window. Also, flower stands and guards in front of most doors and stairs add a nice touch.
Castle Grounds (before entering gate)- Lots of rubble and trees, with a litte pond or two here and there.

But, what I must admit is missing the most from all your maps is land elevation (sp?) You should start adding height to things. Even if it's only one square, it still adds a very nice touch to maps. You don't want to over crowd your maps, but you would rather less have them tp be empty.

Other then that.... yeah, swell lookin.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on October 08, 2005, 12:38:10 AM
Ok, where to start.  lol

BSW: He doesnt really have a link nessesarily (sp?) but he is very well known in the Southern Kingdom.  And yea, a Beta tester you are.  ;)

lonewolf: Thanks! :D  And to show a screen, go to the scene you want to capture in ur game, and hit the printscreen button.  Save, and then attach in charas.

Dragonium: Yea, I noticed the bugs after I released the demo. ^^'  And, you may not be too far off with the whole chimney thing.  ;)  Oh and if you want to know more about Alkamr, go to my site and go to the Heros section.  He is there.

Ace: Yea, the path is a bit big.  I'll make it smaller.  ^^  And the map lacks some things cause its only one small section of it.  And I made it a seperate map than the actual cortyard.  Mainly because its just used for a scene.  lol, but thanks. ^^

Meiscool: Uhm....layers?  Not all towns have layers in real life.  But alot my my places do.  It just doesn't show in the still shot.  Thanks though.

Thanks for all the comments guys.  :D
Title: Wow, this slipped down fast!

Screens!!!!!!!!  lol
Here are three new screens from the new South Castle.

Note: There are no people, because I havent added any.  This is just to show the design.

Armory and pub where the soldiers like to hang out.

Kitchen, which is real foggy from all the cooking, and will be filled with about half a dozen chefs later.

And of course the royal library.  Which will be filled with many readers.

Enjoy! :D ^^
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on October 10, 2005, 12:07:22 AM
I'm sorry, but I have to say it.

THOSE GUARDS LOOK OUT OF PLACE!

Other then that, they're ok, the maps I mean. However, the smoke would look better if you used a scrolling picture instead of the fog effect.
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on October 10, 2005, 12:09:43 AM
Maybe if you had that fog with darker white cloud things floating by, it'd seem like more like steam.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on October 10, 2005, 12:11:53 AM
The fog does move in game.  And I really cant see why the soldiers look out of place.  I think they look great.  ....Meh.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on October 10, 2005, 12:15:51 AM
...meh is my word... even though everyone uses it.

So, anyways, I guess you could use the fog, but I like ZK's idea. Just tint the screen a different color and that should make things look better. But, I still say a picture of a cloud or something would make it look more fogy, but still, all this arguement over one room really doesn't matter I guess.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on October 10, 2005, 12:29:46 AM
1. Meh isnt your word.

2. I guess I could tint the screen to make it a bit better.  Thanks ZK.
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on October 10, 2005, 12:47:52 AM
You know, I don't think those guards are out of place. Guards MUST stand out because in the end, THEY ARE THE LAW. The only problem is that they look like a bunch of clones. Maybe vary the colors but keep them in the same color range? Like, don't put yellow/blue/red/green/purple or together...they are guards, not a rainbow.

I agree with ZeroKirbyX's idea. It'll involve a little bit more work but I should be worth it. As far as 'meh' is concerned, that's used worldwide  by god-knows-how-many peoples.

One last thing; I wish I had that library in my house, heh.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on October 10, 2005, 01:58:39 AM
Hmm...thanks BSW.  At least YOU see it my way.  And I see what you mean by the clones.  Ok, Ill find a way to make them less clonish.  lol

Lol...it is your library though...;)  You know what I mean.  :D

Title: UPDATE!!!!
Post by: Linkforce on October 20, 2005, 10:43:44 PM
YAY!! Boy has it been a long time!  Well, there's tons of news.  most of which is good.

To start things off, I have been working very hard on the game, and its going along very nicely.  Everything looks and plays through very well.  i finally fixed all the bugs in Temeri, which menas, everything will now start to pick up the pace.  This village took quite a while to fix, but it's all done, and I've added quit e alot to the village.  And I'm still adding more.  Well, not much else to say.  I'll keep working at it.  but here's 2 new screens that comes after everything I've fixed....if that makes sense.  lol

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Soldiercatchingup.png
This a screen, where you will only understand it if you've played the new demo.  Which only BSW has, so you wont get it.  I'll leave it at that. :]]  :o

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/TrancesDream.png
A very good and mysterious scene.  Inside Trance's dream, you get to control him, and talk to the black figures.  Again, you'll know whats going on only if you've played the demo.   :]]

Comments are always appreciated!  ^^
Title:
Post by: Ace of Spades on October 21, 2005, 07:17:06 PM
Argh! That dream scene BURRRNS MY RETINAS!!!! ... Yeah, tone that down a lil, especially because it's white text on a white background. Also, maybe you should change "A.S.A.P" to "As soon as possible." Even though it is something typed and read, it's supposed to be something they're actually saying in person. Looks pretty good though.  There's a graphic conflict in your game though. Using mack and blue, rudra and that chip for temeri clashes a good deal, however, I doubt you want to remake all your maps with a different chipset to make them better flow.

Oh yeah, by the way. The text in that dream scene doesn't make any sense whatsoever. :-/

Ace: Well, theres no way im re-doing my maps.  Nuff said.  I dont mind overly used graphics if they look good.  As for A.S.A.P. people actuallly do say that exact phrase instead of the whole thing in real life.  An the scene makes no sense cause you need to know what happened before.

Thanks for the comments though guys. ^^  I'm working hard for the new demo soon!  :D

Well, I'm glad to see that you desided to use a mack chipset instead of the FF6 one you gave to me.

I still have to say, even though it's been said, that the maps don't go together. You've got rudra, mack and blue... probally many others. They really really don't go together, especially the rudra. I mean.... it's kind like putting ff4 graphics with ff6 ones. Just doesn't turn out well at all.

Title: RELEASE DATE?!?!
Post by: Linkforce on November 10, 2005, 01:39:17 AM
Yes, you read correctly.  I have carefully and thoughfully come up with a release date for Demo 2 of CD: Ep.1.  Just look underneath my game thread at the description, and it's there.  For now, an update.

Update: Everything is going great.  Chapter one is finished except for some few things I need to edit here and there.  I've already started on Chapter 2, and I love how it's coming out.  If all goes well, it should be out by the release date.  I've gotten a few more recources, and almost all my mpas are done.  Its the eventing that will take long.  I want everything to be perfect for this demo.  Well, thats basically it.  If anyone wants to help, feel free to ask.
And what Update is complete without some juicy screens?  ;)  Lol.

Screens:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/CouncilMeeting.png
Between every chapter, there is a mini scene.  This one is of a Council Meeting.  Very smart scene btw.  ;)

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/AnothernewCharacter.png
Where Laknar was talking from.  Who is that guy in blonde?  Could he be yet another mysterious character?  You bet'cha. :D

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/BombardedwithQuestions.png
Finally fixed this scene.  These reporters are bombarding the King with questions.

Tell me what you guys think.  And as always, Enjoy! :D

You've got rudra, mack and blue... probally many others. They really really don't go together, especially the rudra. I mean.... it's kind like putting ff4 graphics with ff6 ones. Just doesn't turn out well at all.

look at your own game... using rudra chars with mac and blue chipsets is just as bad as what you have hypocritically stated.

Sarcastic mode on: Oh ouch!
Sarcastic mode off: Nice place to post this. I ment for the maps. As you might see if you read back, many people think that his maps need alot of work. I'm not unlike them. The new shots that he posted also need work in my opinion. The first one is ok because I'm guessing it's supposed to be a dark room with a plot exempler. However, the other two pictures need lots of work. There's no varity in them, and they all look like they've been done 10-30 seconds apart.

To Leon: The only thing I use from Rudra are the charasets that I've edited to make look more like RTP characters, for the main characters. Clearly you haven't looked over my game recently. Think before you react. If you do want to reply to this, save it for PMs and not flood up this forum.

Anyways linkforce, I already said it, but those maps need flavor. I don't know about you, but I try to usally take shots of the best areas in my maps, which I also assume most people try to do. Unless you arn't like that, or prefer to take shots of cutseens over gameplay, you should really consider redoing a lot of you maps. And, one last thing, I think I heard something somewhere about the guards looking to similar. Now that I see 9 of them in the same shot, I'm going to agree with that statement. You should have some without helmets or have some with different poses/colors or anything to defy the pattern of look-alikeness you have going on.

Okay, to resolve any confusion.

Soldiers: I have 2 diff. types of those soldiers, but I neglected to put them in the screen.  My fault.

Maps: Alot of the screens I take are just small portions of the map that doesn't show much.  I like to show a scene rather then the map itself.  If you just like a game for its maps, and not story or characters...thats pretty shalow.

Screen 1: This is a high-tech court room.  The little pedestals are monitors, because the people are not actually there.  If you look closely, they are see-through.  And the room is very empty, because well.....thats the way they are in this world.

Screen 2: It is a comunications room for one person.  what else is there to put in there? :|

Screen 3:  don't see any problem since I already said about the soldiers.  Where the words are covering, there is grass, and it is well detailed.

Hope that clears some things up.

I don't rate games by maps. However, I would much rather have a game with good graphics and good story over a game with crappy ones and outstanding story. As to what you could put in the com-room, I dunno. Maybe some computers, chairs and desks, wires lining the floors. It doesn't take to much effort to go in and manually edit a chipset to have those, and it really makes a big difference. Rug.... lamps.... cracks in the floor.... anything really.

Aside from that, I think that most people would be with my in saying that pictures are for maps, and writing is for plot. If you want to tell about scenes, then writing would be the answer, rather then putting out a picture book and leaving us to assume that everything but the screen shot that you took is supposed to be well made.

Anyways, keep up the work, and try to be a bit more artistic with your maps. Sometimes, you have to put in things that will never be used or interacted with to jazz a map up. Like, as an example, a lot of games have these small guys, then a row of bookshelves that are three times as tall as the guy is. No ladder new-by, no-one reading any of the books, but it still never crosses your mind as to why it's there. It's just detail, something to keep you from looking at the same thing over and over.

This game is looking better and better everytime!!!

Honestly, I'm looking forward more to this game than I am to Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core for the PSP. And I'm crazy about Final Fantasy.

So please oh please continue to work on this game. It's looking awesome!

Battle screens...they are interesting since they differ depending on the environment or position on the map. Pretty inovative tho it has been done before....but everything has already been done so its ok.

InsaneJP did marvelous work, as always. It'll be a change to fight as a visible person now, heh.

En... The B-chars look great. Insane and Jericho did great with them. In honesty, I don't like the backgrounds, but other then that it looks good. I don't think I've seen some of those animations used before, or if I have, not in that color, so that's a good point in my book.

Odds are, someone is going to ask why I dislike the backgrounds, so I'll say it now. I just like that it looks weird having a bird's eye view background with a person veiw for the battle enemies and spirits. But, that's just my personal opinion.

I dont mean to flame (as I know meiscool will take it that way), but that is soo right XD

yeah, I agree with xJericho, the battle backgrounds are too bland (although, I like the way the boss one is used).

Heh. God, I love you guys.

Anyways, as you can see, I'm not the only one that dislikes the backgrounds. In fact, I have my gay *** cousin over at the moment and he thinks that they 'look to blank', exact quote.

Saying that I have a problem doesn't mean something is wrong with me Linky, that just means I expect more from your game.

And I love you too, but.

Why are you commenting on everything he does? and then you go and do exactualy the same thing in your games. Also you seem to compare  everything with FF, FF was made by really advance people with great tools 'n' stuff. And to make FF on the RM2K/3 would be VERY hard. So don't compair it to that.
"It'll be like compairing FF1 to FF7"

And I was trying to do that without flaming.

It's nice to give people advice, this is what i'm doing now, but please (my advice) Don't go over the top on it, sometimes it's nice to congratuate people on there good work instead of pointing out the errors.

Nope, didn't see it as a flame. But, I will comment on it:
WTF? For the last time, I'm saying that he's using to many chipset from to many different games. Then, everyone goes and says I do that, which is not true. I only use mac and blue. If you're basing this on what Leon has said, bare in mind that he hasn't been to my game forum either as you most likly haven't if you would make that assumption. As to comparing everything with FF, I'm not one of those guys who has played each and every game. FF is just the most poppular and easiest of the games that I have played to make comparisions with. I mean, almost every gamer as player at least one of them. Plus, I don't use the game to compare, but things in it, like in the example here, the chipsets.

And, I do congradulate people, when they do something good that is. So far Linkforce hasn't seemed to have done anything worthwhile. I'm begining to see what Ace was talking about on the last forum. EVERYTHING he does seems so half-assed at the moment. The only things that seem to be good are the things people make for him, like the battle charas for example. I mean, can you honestly tell me that you would like to play a game that has backgrounds as boring and empty as he does in his serpent cave example, or his first battle example? Or, would you like to play a game that's focused more on movies and cutsceens then actual game-play? It'd be like freakin XenoSaga, but without all the cool combos and inavative battle system. It's just begining to look more and more lazily put together.

Ok, in your last few posts all i have seen is you saying how they are unlike or like FF. comparing to FF. also, I havent played ANY FF games. And I am a gamer. FF may be one of the most known RPG, but that doesent mean you have to compaire everything to it.

xJericho & Leon: Thanks.  Only that one really needs work, so itsnot that big a deal.  Ill fix it.

White Dwarf: You know, you're absolutely right.  Everything he comments on is compared to FF.

Meiscool: Why must you have a problem with everything.  Ok, so one backround is bad.  Ill fix it.  Simple as that.  If your expecting a game with the caliber of an FF, then turn around now.  Dont expect perfection from me or anyone else.  I understand you're the best game maker, and everything you make is so much better, but you need to stop looking at everything at such a high level.  Heres proof.  You think the first backround looks bad?!  Wow.....theres my proof right there.

Please no flaming.

Post by: coasterkrazy on November 13, 2005, 07:55:37 PM
Meiscool is at it again, huh? Well, I think your game still looks as good as it always did. I think just the fact that people like us who don't professionally make games (at least, not yet) have rm and do make games that would be considered marvelous, professional games just over 10 years ago is amazing enough. And when we do make games like these, they are great. In other words, I agree it's stupid to compare it to FF.

Anyway, looks awesome linkforce, and good job to those who made those bcharas, they look awesome!
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 13, 2005, 11:36:36 PM
ummm.... Like, where in this thread have I compared things to FF more then once?

Edit- And, if you guys really think it's that bad to use the comparision mixing FF4 with FF6, then think of it more like mixing Simson cartoons with Fullmetal Alchemist anime. Does that make you happier?
Title:

You're the only one with this problem, and one opinion is not nearly enough to change anything.  If you dont like it, dont reply or just forget about the game.  Simple as that.  No need to bitch after every screen.

Yes, back on topic.

Um...this second demo will be quite different.  As where the first demo introduced the Zylacs very quickly, you dont even hear about them in this one.  But they will turn up and be a major element in the game.  Also, as for the Soul Flames, they weren't mentioned in the first one, well, they are mentioned in the second one.  Haha.  All changes are for the better though. :D
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on November 14, 2005, 12:28:24 AM
Actually, I remember seeing a book in the castle library about the soul flames, but you are right besides that - looking forward to the second demo, I liked the first very much!
Title:

Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 14, 2005, 01:16:46 AM
I really wish you would shut it Leon. Your past three posts have all had insults to me. Anyways, hypocracy has nothing to do with it. Do you seriously expect me to get bashed by the lot of you and not reply? You'd do the exact same thing.

Ok, the game looked promissing, that's the only reason that I looked at it in the beginning. If you don't like that I think your maps lack detail, or just don't want to hear things you need to improve on, then I just won't comment on any screen shots you post from now on, easy as that. I'm not really up to date on the plot of the game, so what exactly is a soul flame?
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on November 14, 2005, 01:32:57 AM
Not all chipsets have the same capacity as Mac & Blue when it comes to details...or graphics in general for that matter. If a map lacks details, it might be because the chipset doesn't offer much. Mac & Blue are great chipsets but vastly overused which is why people go search for other options rather than being unoriginal or falling into the common crowd.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 14, 2005, 01:43:45 AM
I really don't want to be on this topic of chipset usage anymore. So, just don't say anything about it from now on if you guys want me to shut up about it. But, if you continue to ask why my opinion is as it is, or attempt to contradict what I say, I will reply.

In responce BSW:

A: I edit my chipsets to be able to contain more. If a chip doesn't contain enough, he should do that too.
B: If he wanted originality, then rudra, ff6, and etc isn't the way to go.
C: Common crowd? Dude, half the games on here contain Rudra chips.
D: Rudra has more capacity then mac and blue. It shows, as most of Link Forces better maps are in Rudra chips.
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on November 14, 2005, 01:52:22 AM
I used Mac & Blue as an example just like you use Final Fantasy. I didn't target anyone about anything wether it's about chipsets or originality. If you put names over my words, that's your problem, not mine.

As far as the common crowd is concerned, it meant using what is vastly overused and not the user who uses them...different targets here. If you edit your chipsets, good for you; you are dedicated.

I don't intend to continue this any longer for I'd rather not spam up a thread with useless arguing. What matters is not what YOU or I think but what LinkForce thinks. If he like the maps the way they are, so be it. You have the right to point out that some maps might be empty but not argue about it endlessly in hope that it'll help. Point it out and if he decides not to change anything, let it go. That simple.

I'm done with this.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on November 14, 2005, 02:04:55 AM
No, I want you to continue to reply Meiscool, I need constructive critisism.  But, I just dont want you to rate my game at such a high level is all.  I hope that explains what people are upset at.

Meiscool, if you want to catch up on the story, go to my website.  It can be acessed through my sig.  But, I'll explain what the Soul Flames are though.

Basically, they are very old Relics that helped to create the world.  Nobody knows who or what created them, but they are being researched.  They were once combined, and used to create order and control.  But instead created chaos, and unleashed Zylacs onto the world.  In present day, they are kept secret from the world by Top-Government agencies.  But that wont stop those Evil-ders.  ;)

Thats basically it.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 14, 2005, 03:40:15 AM
Ok. Let me see if I've got it right.

The world was peaceful, but the anger-peacemakers didn't like it and rose to power legally. Then, they broke apart and evened out. The poor where exiled to the underground, and the rich the surface. Then, the soul flames were hidden on the surface, and the star stones in the earth to balance the power? Then, main character gets washed up to the surface because of his friend, and the guards see him and try to arest him, and because of that, he has to take the underground passage through snake caves? Hope I got is right  :p
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on November 14, 2005, 05:40:05 AM
Hm...you got some right.  The Star Stone was made in hopes of balancing everything, but instead backfired, and unleashed the deadliest of things.  The main characters friend "purchases" a deed that allows the main Hero a day on the surface world.  He gets wrongfully accused, and defends himself.  He meets with his friend, and they decide to see their hometown for the one day he has.  The border is blocked, so they have to cross through Serpent Cave.  Along the way, you see a few cutscenes of the two soldiers pursuing after them.

Thats basically it.  Theres a ton of stuff that happens in between though.

Post by: Ace of Spades on November 14, 2005, 08:28:21 PM
Wow. Ok, though I agree that meiscool took things a bit too far, I do agree with him on the fact that the maps could use some work. One thing you have to take into consideration though, is not everyone is great at map making. Everyone has their own expertise in something, and usually something they're not so good at either. For example, my expertise is map making and storyline (my new storyline that is ;)). But I can't do advanced coding for crap. Though it may be easy for someone else (I'm looking at you Warxe XD), it's really complicated for me. So, what I'm trying to get at is, even though you think that mapping is an easy thing to do, it may not be for Linkforce. So yeah, just wanted to say that.

Anyway, towards the game, I'm glad that you're not having the Zylac attack right away, because that was rather sudden. Good luck with the game making, I'll be sure to try the demo when it comes out. ^^

Well, after being a way for a few days, I think I'm better.  If you must know, I was heartbroken over a girl.  Yes, I admit it.  Sounds corny and gay, but whatever.  I'm not totally fine yet, what with all the lonliness, but I'll manage soon enough.  Anyways, not to get off topic, I just wanted to let you guys know.  :)

But, back on topic, I think it's right to UPDATE on everything on the game.

Well, since my "dilemna" I haven't touched RM2K3 all week.  The only thing I've worked on is Skylar and Rayne's appearance.  I basically switched their hair colors.  Skylar now has Black hair, and Rayne Blonde.
As for the actual game making, it has stopped, because i need to make lots of rooms for the South Castle.  For this reason, I have decided to make the release date that was supposed to be for the full demo, actually be for a Tech Demo.  Yes, I will release a Tech Demo for those patient people who have been waiting so long for the demo.

Wel, that's it.  Not much more I can say really.  I'd love to post some screens, but I got nothin'.  I'll keep you guys updated when necassery(sp?).  Anyways, thanks for reading.  ^^

Ok, for those of you who have been keeping tabs on my site, you have probably realized that it is pretty dead.  Well, I plan to revive it very soon.  Hopefully, if someone can point me somewhere where I can make a better site, but still be just as easy as using Freewebs.  If not, then I'll just fix up the one I have now.

In terms of the game itself, I'm edditing my World Map chipset now to better suit my game.  Once thats done, Ill be fixing up a few events, and then It'll be on to making maos for South Castle.  I'm gonna have a ton of rooms, so if anyone would like to lend a helping hand, PM me and I'll gladly tell you what I need.  Well, that's basically it.  But of course, I know charas loves screens, so here are a few rooms from the South Castle.  :D

Haha, ok guys.  It means "Seize the Day".  The basis of my games idea.  Thats why I chose Carpe Diem as the tile.  Sheesh.  :p

Anayways, thanks for the good feedback guys.  :D  Meiscool, I excpected more critisism.  ;)

And Drag, sadly Rei's charset is a bad guy in my game.  So sorry.  XD

And we're all going to cry?

Nice maps, for what it's worth. The chipset is spiffy but it's not really my style even tho I like fancy stuff. Your game is either filled with royalty or it's just a coincidence that most screenshots are royal-like, heh. There must be some kind of dungeon other than that cave, no?
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 28, 2005, 08:53:42 PM
Well... sence you invite it so willingly....

Just kidding, you're maps really couldn't use any improvement in my opinion. I mean, I personally like things more crowded then that, especially on the insides, but then again, I've had a lot of people tell me that my maps have to much in them and they are *cough* to detailed... so yeah, my opinion might not be the popular opinion... again.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on November 28, 2005, 09:49:34 PM
Thanks BSW.  And yes, there is a forest dungeon after you *ahem* "leave" the Southern Castle.  So no worries.  :D

Meiscool, I might add a few more things in there.  It could never hurt.  :D

Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 28, 2005, 09:56:50 PM
Hmm. Just a question, but will your game have anything like a floating island or something in it? Because... well, to be blunt, I'm self making and combining a lot of Mac and Blue stuff to make a cool chipset (see sig to see what I mean) of a floating, grassy island, and was wondering if you'd have any use for it. The more people I give it too, the better the chances of something I made being in a finished game, ya know what I mean?

Damn dude i just noticed how many times you changed your characters looks. lol.  I remember the first attempt i made. Wow that was horrible. lol.  I got atleast 20 files on my comp all sprite working just on your game alone. I best get some major props lol.  Or maybe you could just toss one of my characters in there as a guest or just a random towns person that could have some minor role in the game.  Since im never gonna make a game.  I would like to make some use for her.

Btw is your battle chars sprite sized or larger?
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 02, 2005, 02:25:56 AM
Meiscool: I'm not aure whether I'll be having something like that in my game or not.  But you can make it for yourself for now if you want.  If I do have one though, it might not be until much later in the game.

Ryos4:Haha, yea, I just love to edit things.  ;)  And sure, you can send me a charset, and I'm sure I can put it to good use.  ^^  Oh, and the B-charas are sprite sized.

Well, now onto a small update.  I have stopped making maps, because my parents are away, and they took the labtop.  And that's where all my maps are.  ^^'  They'll be back on Monday, and then I can resume maps.  Now, I am perfecting everything starting from the intro.  Perfecting!  As things are now, it looks real good to have a Tech Demo out by the 9th.  For those of you who are waiting, the demo will start at Serpent Cave, and will include about half of everything you do in Temeri.  I hope you guys are looking forward to the demo.  I've put so much into it.  Well, only about a week left of waitng.  :D
Title:
Post by: Ryos4 on December 02, 2005, 04:00:03 AM
You can use the attached charset.  If you need any other poses for her i can make it.  Also since your battle chars are sprite set i could make battle set for her also.  If you chose to make her a guest character for a single dungeon or something.  Or possibly even a secret character.  She also has her dance move and her ocarina.  Eh w/e.  And if u do want to use her as a guest ill need to see one of your other battle sets to make it look as similar as possible.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 02, 2005, 10:00:15 PM
Ah yes.  Your 1000 poses character.  Ok, I'll see what I can do with her.  I'm sure you'll be pleased.  Hehe...(Images of her geting chopped in a blender.)  XD
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on December 02, 2005, 10:26:42 PM
Well, I saw what Ryos did with Trance, and he does look ALOT better. Also, the floating thingie is in my gallary if you want it, and you can see pictures of what it looks like in a map in my thread. Anyways, I've got another question: How much actual game-play will be in this demo? I mean, you seem to have ALOT of events, but you've posted very little on the gameplay.
Title: No update
Post by: Linkforce on December 05, 2005, 01:23:33 AM
Meiscool: Hmm...if you mean hours of gameplay, than about 1-2 hours for the tech demo.  For the actual full demo, maybe 4-5 hours.  :D

And now, what I need.  I realize my game lacks poses, which makes the game not flow very well, and makes characters motionless.  I'm in need of a dedicated poser who will make lots of poses for me.  This is really needed, and I'd really appreciate it.  Its better to have a dedicated poser, than to keep making requests in the Request forum.  Anyone?  ;)

*thumbs down* q(-.-')p Changing skylars heir colour was not the best of actions, I'll take me weeks to get used to the fact of him having black hair instead. . .

b(^o^)d - Keep the work up! *thumbs up*
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 07, 2005, 02:04:13 AM
Yes...yes...95% of people agree that Skylars hair was better before.  But, there is a reason for this.  Allow me to explain.

In Kelevor, there are 2 sections of the world.  Above ground and Underground.  Of course, they have names.  Anyways, when Skylar was very young, he was sent to this underground world to live there.  (Reasons for this will be revealed through flashbacks in the game.)  At this time, his hair was black.  But, after a few days in the Underground, his hair turned blonde.  Now, since Haru "bought" him a pass to the Surface, his hair turned back to black.  Of course there are reason behind this, but you have to play the game to find out.  ;)

Oh, BTW, I still need a dedicated poser, as stated in my previous post.  ^^'

I'm sorry, but that's really, really dumb. Sounds like an excuse to just use that avatar you've got there without editing.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 07, 2005, 02:26:05 AM
Not really...the avatars face is not his real face.  I got another face that was originally a different color to be colored black.  The face on my avatar is not his face anymore.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on December 07, 2005, 02:32:20 AM
Well, it's still pretty dumb, both choice-wise and logicly. I mean, his hair would be dark UNDER the ground, not ABOVE it where there's sunshine and etc.
Title:
Post by: Ryos4 on December 07, 2005, 02:33:29 AM
If you are gonna say that i suggest you make a charset where half his hair is black and half is blond.  That way you could have a transitional period.  Maybe a mission in which his hair turns back to black.

Actually hes right,  Hair gets lighter by sunlight "sun dyed, and skin gets darker with sunlight.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 07, 2005, 02:34:57 AM
Meiscool:Well, if it was your character, Im sure you would do it like that.  But...being who he is...thats how it works.  Ever even think about how it may have happened?  Radiation, chemicals, not human, different personalities which change appearance?  There are many elements to incorporate this phenomena that happens.  Think about that before calling it dumb.

Ryos4: It isn't something he controls.  But having a charset like that might not be a bad idea.
Title:
Post by: Ryos4 on December 07, 2005, 02:43:12 AM
I didnt say it was but are you gonna make it so that it just flashes to black.  Thats gonna look very choppy.  That his hair just changes in a flash.  Also a few days in darkness doesnt seem long enough.  It should take atleast a few months.  Its not like his hair is colored with mood coloring (like mood ring) or something.

There are always ideas in games that get dropped and i think his black hair color is something that should be dropped.

Heh heh. Wow, a huge Radiation excuse just for hair? That's makes it even stupider. I've thought about all that cliche poison and mulit personalities, just didn't expect you to put something cliche like that in your story, that's all. But, in all seriousness, if you're planning on having that, least make the hair set that most people like be the main hair set, not the black one.

Post by: Linkforce on December 07, 2005, 02:50:37 AM
Well, the changes of it changing are slim.  It ties better into the story.  I dont think the color of the characters hair will make the game any better or worse.  If it does for you, than thats really shallow.  And Radiation was just an example.  I never said it was the reason.

Wow wow wow... wait a second here. So, you're saying that if I put something really really dumb in my game, like every time my hero gets mad my main hero's feet turn purple and his nose turns into a sword, because as a non-human child he was exposed to radiation while he was angry at his mother, that it won't make a difference to the game, especially if the chance of that happening is super dooper slim and only happens once in the WHOLE game? That's not shallow, its called having a low talerence for pointless things that attept to drown out some huge story like The Matrix has. And yes, hair color does make a difference. Would you want to play a game where the main male hero's hair was pink? At first glance, I'm sure you'd think it's a stupid game. I mean, how great would God of War (omg, using the big game comparision again, bite me if you don't like it) be if Krytos had pink, spiked up hair every time he went undergroud?

I'll all for having twists and extras in a game, and don't think I'm trying to say you game is bad or anything, I'm just saying that this new idea of yours isn't a very good one and should be revised. Heck, I'd rather play out the entire game as black-hair then have it change here and there for some unworldly reason.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on December 07, 2005, 03:04:55 AM
See, but it doesnt switch out of nowhere.  And you cant talk about purple feet and sword noses and etc.  All we're talking about here is a change in the color of hair.  If it reall bothers you THAT much, that the main characters hair is Black instead of Blonde, then tough luck.  Thats how it is.  If its worth making such a big arguement about, then just dont play the game.  And I know that its not gonna end here, cause you have to get the last word of course.  And you have to be right. _sweat_
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on December 07, 2005, 03:14:00 AM
Heh heh, I don't have to be right. You know my opinion, and you know the opinion of the others on here. If you want to keep this idea, do as you like, after all, it's your game. I, being slightly more experienced in game making then you are, was just making a suggestion that you drop the rediclious (sp?) idea, but if you came some how tie it all in and still make it interesting, be my guest. But, I will admit that I like to have the last word, as I'm sure you will when you painstakingly reply to this.

I wont argue the fact that you know more about RPG making, because when it comes to coding, I'm as clueless as anything.  But how about this?  If I can't make it play out well enough, I'll ditch the black hair.  But for now though you'll have to deal with it.  And I'll be civil and let you have the last word.

*pssssssssst* hey, Link mate ... you just took the last word lol

Hmm, a black haired Skylar...certainly breaks away from the Blondie hero Cliche that most people tend to follow (even me >.>" But I got blonde (well, fair, silverish hair) so I'm allowed to do it! k! <.<"")

I'm interested in how your topic's description states a demo on the 12th two months ago...

Title:

Oook, That explains a few things... no need to argue about how fast the hair colour changes, Look at DBZ they turn blond in the blink of an eye and turn "super syan"

Let LF decide the hair colour. If you don't, he'll eat you -->  ''''.(>.<).'''' - Rarrrh

This whole "from underground" plot... sounds original enough... good work

Oh yeah, and after reading a couple things, sorry to bring this back up, but the hair idea is rather stupid. In all honesty, I think that you either watched:
a. DBZ
b. Inuyasha
when you thought of the idea. And if he was from underground, those flashbacks better show a really really crappy place with raggedy people and an overall poor environment because in most cases (which means the underground idea isn't original) people underground are basically outcasts who either were shoved out by the surface people or wanted to live underground because something on the surface made them not want to live there. And seeing as you can't get half as good as the resources you can above ground, it would be a lot harder to live underground, so a very poor environment would only make sense. But erm, I still don't think somebody's hair would change just because they go underground and then above ground, unless it was really really dark underground, in which case the people wouldn't be able to live, UNLESS of course he is some kind of alien who doesn't need the things humans need. <_< ...Yeah, I think I've said enough. Looking foward to the demo release, but don't stress yourself out just to finish it by tomorrow, if you need extra time by all means take it. ^^

Being underground will change your appearance a lot...both your hairs and skin. Been there, saw that. Remain locked inside a house without any exposition to the sun and your skin will turn white. Being underground can probably change your hair but not to blond...most likely to white.

Rapidshare is simple to use but I couldn't care less about your hosts for reasons that you already know.

It has to be for a long time though, not a few days. Unless you want to add in "3 months later" just for a hair change, I'd just scrap the idea. But you make a good point BSW, it would most likely change to white.
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on December 08, 2005, 10:33:45 PM
A very long time. Considering the time it takes to your skin to turn white because of lack of sun, changing hairs color would take much longer. Just something to keep in mind.

Well, I've weighed both sides, and decided to just keep it blonde.  If it makes it that much more of a hassle, then I'll keep it the way it was.  But...that means I'll have to change Rayne back to her original hair color as well.   X_X

And Ace, I'll check out savefile.  Thanks.  ^^

Ok, I'm reall sorry to say this, but the Tech Demo  will not be released.  It's just more work than it's worth.  Plus, all the time I'm spending fixing it up can be spent on the actual game.  so, instead, I will be just workin hard on the actual full demo.  I think it would be better that way.  I have already started Chapter 2 events, which is good, becaue I am a fast eventer.  Although I always have alot.  Anyways, yeah...that's what I'm doing.  I'm sorry for people that were looking forward to the Tech Demo, but when the actual demo comes out, I'm sure it will be worth it.

With that said and done, if anybody wants to help with  maps or  poses ,I am really in need of those.  I'd appreciate any and all help.

Again, I'm real sorry, but It's for the best.  And you know what they say, Patience is a Virtue.  ^^'

Well that was when he said one extra day. I'm not mad at him or anything, but this just gives me reasons to believe that the game won't be finished. This is my opinion, and this is just what I believe.

Linkforce, take it from... Sqoad, don't place a date for the release, instead just put up the demo when it is finished, this way, you won't let anyone down 'cause you couldn't finish.
take all time you need to finish, we'll be looking forward to the demo, Merry X-mas and whatever ;)
Keep the good work up!

Good point, although FABLE was a let down, It was pushed 2-4 years. I was deeply disappointed by it too, took me 3 days to finish (well, 23 hours if you count for how long I actually played)

Ok, make no mistake about it.  There is absolutely no chance in the world that I will quit on this game.  Regardless of if I miss my Release Date and such.  But I don't like just putting a demo out from nowhere, so heres what I'll do from now on.  I'll schedule a release date when everything is finished, and all thats left are Beta Tests.  Yeah, that's what I'll do.  Again, I'm real sorry, but like BSW said, better to play a great game that took a while to come out, then a crappy game that was out quickly.

OHHHH! This statment so supports that map arguement we had. "Better to take your time on a great map then to send out a bunch of meh ones". J/k

Anyways guys, he's having some major flaws with some of the systems he's put into the game, like the dashing system for example. Because it's not my game, I have no clue what the problem is, so untill we get it worked out, you will just have to safice to mastrabating in the corner swordmaszter.
Title: Trailer!!!
Post by: Linkforce on December 14, 2005, 10:23:15 PM
Well, I felt bad for letting down the people who wanted the Tech Demo, so I took the liberty of making a Trailer.  Now, for those of you who saw the trailer for my old game, you have no fear of running away.  XD  This one is much much better than the first.  Anyways, without further ado...

 Carpe Diem: Trailer 1 (http://www.savefile.com/files/8979246 )

I really hope this makes up for the Tech Demo.

I hope you guys like the trailer. ^^

A great trailer, really good. I don't like Xenosaga but the song was sublime. You'll have to send it to me sometimes or atleast the title of the song.

'Your soul will be tested in 2006'? A nice catch phrase IMO.

Title: Update...ish
Post by: Linkforce on January 03, 2006, 09:47:05 PM
Well, I don't think it's right to just let this topic trail down the forum, and have its status unknown.  My avatar says that my game is on hold, and that's partially true.

Basically, my family is down here and I don't get to see them very often on account of them living in Isreal.  The computer is usually occupied, so I don't get alot of time on it.  Right now, I'm on my labtop, but it doesn't have my game file on it.  S oyeah...I'm still making the game, make no mistake about it, but progress is much slower than usual.  I'm also getting help on maps to help speed up the production.  I can't say when  the demo will be out, but it's gradually getting there.  I keep going from the beggining to check for errors because I'm (for some reason) too anal about perfecting this.  Lol.  But yeah...I just wanted to let you guys know whats going on, and that Carpe Diem is still out there.

I'll let you guys know when production speed is back to normal.

Thanks for reading.  ^^ :D
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on January 05, 2006, 01:00:10 AM
Well, that sucks. As your unofficial, offical map maker, I am "saddened" that I will have more time to make your maps because you don't have to be rushed to get them out soon. This is a real blow to me, as now I must find things to do with my spare time.....

But, we can wait, rest assured, so take all the time you need.
Title: Update
Post by: Linkforce on January 08, 2006, 02:04:43 AM
I guess people dont like Update...ish, so instead I'll post an  Update.

Well, I'm making up my lack of game making my making maps.  And, it came to me that I should make a C.S.S.M.  Which stands for Custom Skill System Menu.  Since I already have a Custom Skill System (CSS), I figured I should have a CSSM.  So, I got to work and massively edited a CMS chipset.  Here's what I got so far.

Menu that pops up right when you access the CSSM.

When you pick a character, it takes you to this Menu.  Although you can see other characters, you can't access them here.

And finally, the Menu where you can use the CSS.

I just started this, so its obviously not coded yet.

Thats about it.  All I'm doing is making maps and gathering more recources.  Hope you guys are still interested in C.D.

Oh, and Enjoy!  :D

Well, anybody who knows me, knows that I couldn't code even if the balance of the entire universe depended on it.  XD  But seriously...I'm like...a horrible Custom stuff coder.  For this reason, I will be gathering helpers from the far corners of charas for this to work.  ;)

Lol, well, I was in a good mood, and decided to go in a bit of a different direction.  Instead of an update, I decided to post something fun.

You all know what Skylar looks like now, but what you don't know is that Skylar had a rough time trying to look right.  He went through alot of different phases to get where he is now.  And just to show you guys, here's his timeline of appearances.  Lol!  I hope I made the right final choice.  And who knows?  Maybe he will change again!

Lol, looks to me like he started out as a Cloud clone, then by the 4th stage turned into Cid. I like the way he is now. :)
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on January 15, 2006, 02:19:45 AM
Things change, others don't. He went tru many transformations to reach his, hopefully, final attire. The main hero's attire is always a tough decision since most are Cloud-esque during the early stage of creation.

Title:

Lol, yeah.  He was a Cloudd clone, and then"matured".  And swordmazter, I'm probably not gonna add a swrod on his back.  thats part of the reason he was recreated him in the first place.  XD

Sorry, no screens this time (probably wont get a reply), but I hope you guys are still looking forward to the game, and if everything runs smoothly, expect a demo late Feb. early March.

Title: Update
Post by: Linkforce on February 10, 2006, 01:58:36 AM
Well, well, well....it's been about a week, so I figure I'll let you guys know what's going on in the world of Carpe Diem.

Well, aside from a few glitches which are being fixed now, everything is going smoothly.  I'm getting alot done daily.  About a month ago, progress was at 30%.  Now, it's up to around 70%.  As you can see, alot more time and effort is getting put towards the game.  I'm still at a lack of support from people, but I'll try and work around it as best as I can.

Chapter 2 is well into production, and if this great production rate keeps up, you can expect a demo within the month of March.  Of course, I'm not going to set a release date, because those are killers.  x_x

Well, sorry for the ranting, but I needed to get all this info out.  Hope you guys are still interested in the game.

Oh and sorry for no screens.  I'm saving the rest of them so I don't give the whole demo away.

P.S.- dragoninja, I can tell you that you only got one right.  XD
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on February 10, 2006, 03:31:47 AM
30% to 70% ? Now that's what I call improvement and dedication. I'm glad things are running smoothly and that everything is proceeding. Screenshots shouldn't be posted for a while, in my opinion.

Like you said, no point in spoiling the demo tru screenshots. Keep us waiting and wondering. :)

It looks pretty good. Libraries aren't easy make so they look like anything special, but a big step to special is by using the first layer bookcases.

30% to 70%... woaaah... Obviously some didn't quite get the point of 70% *cough*Cyber*caugh*child*caugh*

He said that the demo prosses had gone from 30% to 70%, not 30% + 70% (although, that'd be kinda cool...)

PS. YAY! 1 out of 8 right!!! extreme dedication to CD! XD

Post by: Linkforce on February 17, 2006, 05:01:16 PM
No, it's not finished yet.  But drajoninja is right about the switch from 30% speed to 70% speed.  If the demo production rate stays like this for the next few weeks, expect a demo real soon.

P.S.-XD  Only one question right.

*Ahem*  Well, I've been getting lots of work done lately.  Stepped it up a notch and it's paying off.  Progress is running smoothly, and I finally have a solid poser/spriter.  Now if I can just get my hands on a mapper.  >.>  XD
Anyways, yeah, I still don't have an idea of when a demo will be out though.  Hopefully soon.  I mean...I just need this huge *** city ro be made...and then I can get an idea of when the demo will be released.  It's really long right now, and a few lucky people have played it thus far.  I'm happy to say that each one has enjoyed and said it was quote, "worth the wait".  Except for that one guy....who's played it like 700 times and counting...<.<  XD

So yeah, I'm mapping and eventing at the same time.  It's hard but eh, who am I to bitch?  lol
Anyways, I've been ranting for too long...and most people won't even read it all.  XD  Only the loyal fans.  so, to wet your whitles, here are a few screenos.  lol

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/FibelListening.png
Fibel has stumbled upon two Unknown voices talking about a possible "attack" on King Drevin.  All the sprites and poses here were made by BSW.  XD

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/SouthStorage.png
A hallway in the basement of the South Castle.  Being here, means that you are close to finding the intruders in the Castle.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Alkvs.png
Once Alkamar finds one of the intruders, a pretty tough battle will begin.  this is Alkamars "Throw" attack.  Poses for the animation by InsaneJP.  :D

Well, that's it for the update.  Hope you guys liked it.  ^^
Oh, and Enjoy! :D

That's impossible! I knew I spelled it wrong, and googled it to make sure I spelled it right! Sherkin might be different from the ninja star shuriken, but it's still a type of ninja weapon thrown in the shape of a star.
Title:
Post by: Spike21 on February 23, 2006, 02:07:52 AM
um well it shuriken were accualy carpenter tools to pull out nails but since ninja used everyday items like the bostaff was a yoke to carry water buckets numchuku (sp?) was used as a bite for horses and so on... Please kill me before i argue some more please

edit and not all shurikens are star shape like the hari (sp?) shuriken

Thanks guys.  :D  And Meiscool, I think Spike is right.  Call it what you want though.  I just call it a 7-sided Pinwheel.  lol.  Oh, and there's only one weapon that he has.  Its mainly used as a melee weapon, but his throw attack is a skill that costs 0 MP.

And Spike, what can you do?

Glad to see the throwing animation working...Make sure to include it in your next trailer ^^ (make one soon damn you!)

-Off topic-

Well, here's a small update....thing...lol.  It's just a list of % on each chapter and the overall demo.  Well.....you'll understand it after I show it.

Chapter 1- Maps- 100%      Events-99% (Fixing errors)

Chapter 2- Maps- 20%        Events-15%

Overall demo %-  58.5%

I know, it looks like I still have alot to do.  But I've made ALOT of progress this week.  Plus, I got a few people helping me out.  So, stay strong and try and hold out for the demo.  ;)
Title:

I would seriously stop posting progress for the demo. You've changed the release of it so much that I really don't bother looking at the %(s).

Yes, the front says 85.5%.  But look closely.  Thats the game production  rate.  Meaning like....thats the speed of things.  Hard to explain...but it's not how much is complete.

Post by: Linkforce on March 07, 2006, 11:11:42 PM
Well my friends, here it is.  The first release of my new version of CD.  As far as I know, there are no bugs.  Only the Dashing system may give people some troubles.  But I haven't figured out a way to fix that yet.  Anyways, some things to know before playing.

 READ THIS BEFORE PLAYING
1. It is highly suggested that before you play this game, you exit out of any other programs.  Also, it is HIGHLY suggested that you warm up Rm2k3 with another game.  Just run around for a few seconds to warm it up.  Takes away all the skipping.  This is because my intro is Timed perfectly.  So if you want to enjoy it, do this.
2. When the big head appears, dont be alarmed.  XD  And the picture looks how it does, because...well...if you don't know why then ask.
3. You can't teleport to the World Map while dashing.  (Haven't found out how to fix system yet)
4. That's about it I think.  Just enjoy the demo, and have fun with it.  ^^

And I realize that there are a few errors and such.  But, by next week, I'll have a fixed demo with more content on Chapter 2.

Oh, and I forgot to mention something.

EVERYTHING with a CD in front of it is not open to the public use.  That and my main character charsets.  All recources with a CD in front of it were either made by me, edited by me, compiled by me, or made for me.  So, I'd appreciate it if you guys would refrain from using those recources.  Thanks.  :)

I didn't finish it yet, I died in the cave. I don't know if I was supposed to lose the first time against that lizard thingy, but anyway after I lost I was out of all my healing items, then when the battle started again, all I could do was attack and I couldn't do anything to heal my party. Yeah, the boss picked off my best char right away and then took out my party.

But a few things about your game that I have noticed so far..

FF9 title theme for your title themes is probably not the best thing to do.
I heard at least one other FF9 track and i think some other big game peices in there.
The begining maps in that lab, ship, whatever, were pretty empty, basically maps with big open spaces.
The town map was kinda blah with only 3 buildings, all spaced out from eachother, nothing really eye-catching there.
If you walked behind a church bench, you're head gets cut off.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but when we were sent off to go to the guys home town, I had no idea where that was or how to get there, I kinda had to wander around aimlessly to figure out where to go.
The hero world map sprite didn't seem to be finished as sometimes his hair was blond, and other times it was black.
The dungeon was neat with the spike thingies and holes, but it was too repeditive. There wasn't a big variety of chips used, it was all the same puzzle/theme, and it seemed to drag on, especially in that one room where there was a ton of lizards, it didn't do much good to fight them cuz they didnt deal any damage and didn't give a whole lot of exp points, it just seemed like they were there to eat up time.
Then the boss type thing was way too hard compared to the normal enemies considering the second time I fought him it was impossible for me to heal any of my guys since I already used all the items up because I thought if I lost that battle I would lose the game.
Then finally I don't think the characters were that balanced since the main character did one hit of 18 while the other dude did two hits of 20 something.

I do have to say though that the battle system looked very nice and the story seems to be going very nice so far. Maps are good for the most part. So all the big stuff you have down good, theres just a bunch of little stuff that could use work.

I'll say more once i get further :)
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on March 08, 2006, 04:48:11 AM
>.>  *Phew*  Well, allow me to explain myself.

Well, yes...you are supposed to lose the first time.  So...I guess...you should conserve your items.  It's meant to be that way, and to catch the player off guard.

FF9 theme.....sorry but I'm stickin with it.  Made a promise to myself.  lol

As for the map in the Lab.  There's not really much more to put in it.  It's an underground man made structure.  So naturally, it's more open then...a town or forrest.

When you get to Baven...it's small and spaced out because if you talk to people...it's just a rest stop for travelers.

You were confused where to go, because you didn't pay attention.  :p  They're gonna venture to Skylars hometown.  So, once you get out of the World Map...the only place where you can go is South...so it just goes from there.

I know some sprites and poses aren't finished.  In the next release, that'll all be fixed.

Now...when it comes to the dungeon.  I understand what you're getting to with this.....BUT! keep in mind......this is only the first dungeon of the game.  So...you gotta git it a bit of a leaway(sp?)....

It's unbalanced in the beggining, because Haru doesn't get any new weapons.  So he has to be stronger from the beggining to keep up with the other Heroes later on.

And the Boss....just use strategy.  Dont rush to use up all your MP right away.  ;)

Anyways, I hope this answered all your questions and such.  Glad you like it so far.  ^^'
Title:
Post by: shadus on March 08, 2006, 11:37:36 AM
Nice. But I found some things that need to be worked on.

1st In the can there a place where spikes should be but aren't

2nd You can walk on some things I don't think you should...

3rd The monster poses are a little boreing.

4th Skyler is a litte on the crappy side.I mean it takes him three blows to kill a gekco..

But overall so far so good.Haru Rocks!

Lol, well I was paying attention there, I knew I was supposed to go to his hometown, but I had no idea where that was. It may be a good idea to tell the player where the town is, and that you need to go south past the bourder to get there. I know you can figure it out easily since theres basically only one way to go, but I believe that it would be better if you didn't have the player guessing where the town is when one or both of your characters knows where it is.

The player can't know that he/she is supposed to save their items. I'm sure I could have beat him the first time if I knew that, but the point is that I didn't, and I was pretty much screwed because when I fought the battle I could win, my chars weren't prepared. Maybe you could add a few healing items back to the party when the next char comes, like he has some with him that he gives to the party. Or make the boss a little easier so that healing items won't be required to beat him.

As for using the MP attacks, the MP attacks for Haru are worse than his normal attacks, and using Skyler's heals the boss. I don't remember the other chars mp attacks, but I don't remember them being any better than his normal ones.

Lol, if you promised to use the FF9 track, then go for it  :p

I got that, but either way, its just kinda boring. Even if its supposed to be that way, this (and the intro maps) are the first things you see in your game. Making a good impression by having interesting maps at the start of the game will get people interested and hooked on your game before they get hooked on it because of the story.

So yeah, those are my suggestions  :p I'm currently at school, so I can't play through more of your game now, but I'll try to when I get home  ;)

I have to disagree with you there, DB. I thought it was quite a good idea. I mean, really if you lose on the second one from losing all your items then you just go load your game and say "Ok, this time I won't use the items first." I think it works because many players will lose the first time, and that's how I think some bosses should be. Even though it is the first boss, it adds a chance of getting a game over, which I feel is happening less and less in RPGs people are making. They are either far to easy (almost never losing) or too ridiculously hard (less common, but I've played some where all you can do is attack and I lose by attacking which is the only thing I can do anyway).

One flaw I found that wasn't mentioned yet is the dashing system, but you said you were fixing some errors. Anyway, what happened was my walking speed became fast (either like the dash or maybe faster than the dash, I couldn't tell) and my dashing speed became extremely fast. This all happened when I left Baven. I noticed I moved on the world map faster and sure enough, all of my movement was faster. I have to say I haven't played many games with perfect dashing systems (even DB's old demo's dashing system was flawed  :o), which is why I'm choosing not to do one. I hope you can fix it though!

Yeah, that's another thing; I thought you could have used the sound effects a bit better. Some were well used, others, not so, I fear. Still, the game itself is an OK deal. It's got some things, and is missing some other things. It also has some things that are somewhat undesirable, as DB has said.

Lol, I too noticed a bunch of simularties in sound and music from this game and others. But really that doesn't really matter since everyone basically got their music and sound from some source on the net that everyone has access to. Now if you 'borrowed' orignal stuff from other people without their permission, then that would be a bad thing, but as far as I can tell, you didn't do any of that :p

-Acey's Review-

For those who haven't played yet, don't read this. I'll probably state some things that were in the game that could be spoilers for you, so read at your own "risk."

Alright, I'll start off by saying great job. This was a vast improvement from the previous one, and I enjoyed playing it. I'm not the best at reviewing, but meh, take my opinion for what it's worth. I'll be reviewing everything except battles, because I really don't enjoy them reguardless, and I can't give a good opinion on them either. So, here we go.

Story: 8/10
The story you have going seems good. Your intro was well done, it made me want to continue playing, just as intros are supposed to. Your events are well drawn out, and there's a lot more connection between them unlike the total randomness of the previous demo. (no offense)

The thing you have going with Trance's back story is nice. It's not way mysterious, it has a good amount of mystery to it that can give the player thoughts and assumptions on what it is themselves. Overall your characters are good, but there's not much contrast between Skylar and Haru. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be a lot similar, but you should give more differentiation so that each have their own personality. That's another thing that needs a bit of work, but not much. Work on giving the characters more personality as well as more emotion.

I like the bravery aspect between both of them, but sometimes it's not believable that they're afraid right as they're about to die. (Like the cave boss, for example) Trance is probably my favorite, just because he has that mysterious unknown "aura" around him. He has more emotion and personality to him than the others, so nice work with him. Overall,  nice job with this One thing I always go for in games is the story, and I liked yours. ^^

Gameplay: 6/10
I have to admit, this probably would've been a 7.5, but I didn't really enjoy the cave. You say that it should get more leeway because it's the first dungeon, but I tend to disagree. Because it is the first dungeon, you want to make it good. Not extremely difficult and not extremely easy, but give it enough so that it won't make me think "Well, if this is what the dungeons in this game will be like, I'm not even going to bother playing."

That's about the only "meh" though. Maybe add a little bit more gameplay into the towns, but it really doesn't need it. Temeri was nice, and I liked the chimney "mission," it was creative. There's not much more to this, I liked the ship scene and the distraction. Even though it's a bit basic, it is the beginning of the game, so it's not supposed to be incredibly loaded with gameplay.

If people get stuck in certain parts, then all I can say is they're not looking around in town. It can be boring to some people, but it is a gameplay factor, called "finding out things yourself." :) Mainly work on the cave. All that was really in it were spikes, holes and battles. I can't really give you any ideas on what to add. Maybe another puzzle, maybe making the cave less straight forward. Definately less battles though.

Maps: 5/10
These can use some work. As DragonBlaze said, some of your maps are too big and too empty. I agree with this. The lab maps in the beginning can't have much added to them, you're right with this. However, they can be made smaller, and you can add more wall contrast.

I know that man made things aren't like nature, where there's lots of curves and layers, and less straight forward, symmetrical-ness. However, one thing that is an aspect of man made places is clutterness, and minimal space. Even the cleanist of houses only have minimal space, because couches, chairs, desks, cabinets, tables, TVs, entertainment systems, etc. all take up space. So I really suggest making your inner maps a little less symmetrical, smaller, with minimal space. That's what can be done if you can't fill a room, you make it smaller.

Now, I know that Temeri is a peaceful, secluded and less populated town; but this doesn't mean the landscape is just flat with a couple hills here and there. Judging by who's in the town, and the setting (less modern), I don't think they have bulldozers to shift and move landscape as they please. Put more elevation into the town, make it more natural. The one hill that's in the upper right side of the map is too symmetrical and squarey. Put more curves and maybe a cliff or two into your hills. It makes it look a lot more natural, and less man made.

That's about all I have to say reguarding the maps. They can use work, however, and I put some emphasis on this. They aren't bad maps. I could still walk around and it didn't make me think any less of the game. But, they didn't make me go "Wow!" when I entered them either. So if you want to make your game "look" better, then I suggest practicing on map making more. Use the tutorials here that are provided, like Meiscool has a good one, and so did Robotam. If not, then they just won't really stand out, like I mentioned before.

Graphics: 8/10
Great improvement. The chipsets you used fit the places you were trying to represent, the characters have major improvement, not crappy like the ones before (once again, no offense) and your use of poses for certain event was was great. The only reason this didn't get a 9 or 10 is because I have to relate it scenery-wise, which also includes how they were used and looked. And, since your maps were a bit mediocre, they affected the score as well. Overall they were great though, kudos to your pose makers too. :)

Difficulty: 7/10
Once again, I'm not including battles in anything, get someone else's opinion on that. The only thing that brought this down was the cave, which I already mentioned, but a review is a review, and I have to include all the aspects together. All in all though, the difficulty is balanced for a game's beginning. It's not too hard and not too easy. Don't get me wrong, it is easy, but this is good. There's not much to difficulty yet, so right now it fits well for the beginning.

Overall: 7/10
Once again, great job on this. There are some things that need improved, but the game itself is a vast improvement from what it was before. I didn't enjoy the previous version one bit, but this one, I liked it. I stayed up till 1 am even though I was tired, because I wanted to finish it; so that right there is a good sign. ;) The game has good potential in my opinion, so keep working hard; you've done great so far. Just fix those few things and you'll be set to go. It's all up to you though, of course. Take my opinion for what it's worth, it's your game, so it's your decision. Nice  job, and keep up the good work. I admit, I wasn't really before, but I will be looking forward to more out of this project and I'll keep up to date with it as well. ^_^

K, i downloaded it and i'm playing it right now. Just got my *** kicked by the serpent, but im gonna go back and play through again. The demo so far is awesome.

Favorite character so far would have to be Laknar. He's my kind of character! That might change when the Arakian Six are introduced.

*Phew*

Thanks for the review Ace.  I really appreciate it.  ^^
I'm glad you liked this version better anfd glad you liked it for what it was.  :D
I agree about the Cave....so I'll spend some time fixing that up.
Oh, and Haru and Skylar are pretty similar.  But later on...Haru shows his true self.  He's sort of an *** and he's real cocky and arrogant.  lol
And I'm glad you like Trance.  I put alot of thought into his character.  :D

Swordmaszter: Thanks. :D  I'm glad you like it so far.  And if you have a favorite character, that means I did good.  lol  Thanks for sticking to the game for so long.  ;)

Title: Update
Post by: Linkforce on March 13, 2006, 03:14:11 AM
Small update.  Not much to say.

First off, a few people might know of my "missing" files.  Well.....not actually files.  When I was prepping for the release of the demo, I forgot to make a second game file.  Becuase, I wanted to delete some maps from Chapter 2, as to not give anything away.  Well, silly me, I didn't realize that I was working on the original copy.  So, turns out I deleted alot of maps and a crap load of events.
But thanks to all my buds, I got almost all of my maos back.  No events, sadly.  So, for the next week or so, I'll start to redo the events once I feel like it.  Kinda like pulling teeth.  xD

So yeah, wish me good luck, and I'll let you know how things are in a few days.

Oh, and  Ace knows how freakin pissed I was when it happened.  XD
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on March 13, 2006, 03:24:54 AM
Lol, next time you have to make sure you back up all your files before you do anything like that :p

I back up my files every school day. Every night when I'm done working on rm2k3, I put my game on my flash drive so I can bring it to school the next day and work on it there. Then I after I'm done doing work there, I copy the .ini files and ltb and those types of files, plus any maps i've made, and I put them back on my flash drive. Then when I get home, I copy the new files into my game folder, and i'm good to go. (I still keep the game on my flash drive just in case though). So no matter what happens, I won't lose more than a half days work.

Like you, I have learned the hard way  :yell:

Post by: Linkforce on March 14, 2006, 02:17:49 AM
LOl, thanks for the tip. ;)

So, I took the advice people offered to me, and I decided to make Serpent Cave a bit more exciting.  Here's a screen of a puzzle involving piecing together bridge pieces.

Note: The bridge closest to Skylar and Hru, used to have another piece.  But, Haru jumped it, and the piece gave wayc as a result.  The other entrance you see, to the right, contains many chests.  Some with bridge pieces, and some with Mimics!  Once you obtain one piece, you can choose to go back to Haru to help him, and therefore he will fight along side, or you can go through finding the pieces on your own.  :p

Whoa, I'm loving the dual character setup. It's pretty cool because in some games I've played you have more than one person yet they can't act together to solve something that would be simple if they did.

Hehe, yep.  ^^  I got it from my OTOS system.  They both help play into eachother.  And, I know I can't capture the whole scene with screens, but rest assured, the scene is very good and funny too.  :D

Title: OMFG, Update!!
Post by: Linkforce on April 06, 2006, 03:56:39 AM
Well, its been roughly two weeks since I've posted anything...bsacially since I've had no drive to work on the game.  Well my friends, that time has gone and past.  Yes, I'm back and CD is in production once again.  I hope my fans are still around and loyal.  New fans are always welcome as well.  Again, I'll be needing any help available, sp dont be a stranger.  ;)

So, now to update on what I WILL be doing, since I haven't done anything yet.

::Events::
Well, I haven't done any events yet, and  a few people know I lost alot of crap since I released the demo.  (Ace XD)  WEll, pretty soon I'll be redoing lost events, and everything will start to piece together once again.

::Maps::
Alot of maps have been edited and spruced up.  I'm pleased to say that alot of maps look alot better then before thanks to the tips people gave me.  Also, I'll be mapping alot too now.  Trying to get it out of the way first.

Anyways, that's basically it.  Nothing more to say.  I hope everyone gets back into the jist of things here in the world of CD. (lol)  :D

And whats and update without a screen?

Description- It's just a new town I'm working on.  Lol, I was inspired.  :)

I like the map, except where that mat is by the entrance, I would make it slightly larger than one square. It just seems a bit small, is all (ooh rhyme :D ).

Using the shift key you could make it look like it's even in the squares occupied by the wall, if you see what I mean. Which you probably don't, as I'm not in the most articulate of moods.

A good way to make your inner maps look good is to use the two stages of "dirty tiles" (As in, the "slightly darker" and "much darker" tiles) to make it look as though the floor has been walked on. Try putting very dark tiles in the doorway and corners, to make "paths" around the room where folks normally walk, and then edging it with "slightly dark" to make it blend. I can't give a screenie as I'm on a school compy at the moment, but here's a paint diagram so's you get my meaning.

Trust me, it makes your maps look damn professional.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on April 27, 2006, 03:11:50 AM
Hmm...I see what you mean.  Thanks Drag. :D

Anyways, here's a new screen.  For those of you that played the demo, you know that the Temeri Cargo ship bound for Skylars hometown was doomed.  Well, at the beggining of Chapter 3, you go back to Skylars story.  You start off at the crashed ship, and eventually end up at an oriental styled house, where two kids live.  I wont give away what happens here, but its pretty cool.

P.s.- Trance is looking at a map.  xD

Gaagh!

Look, sometimes cutscenes need to be long, or the story collapses. If you can't stick a cutscene to the end, you shouldn't be playing RPGs.

Which also goes for me, whose game is now reaching towards MGS-frequency cutscene status.

Err...I'm mapping and eventing at the same time.  You guys don't deserve a screen, so maybe later I'll post one.   _sweat_

Title: UPDATE
Post by: Linkforce on May 09, 2006, 12:49:22 AM
Well, I'm much better now, and my mood has gotten so much better.  lol  I've been going through some rough terrain for the past few weeks, but I've handeled it, and now I am moving on.  Since I came back from Spain, I've been half-assing my game.  But today, I felt like eventing some scene, and upon watching what I had created, it rekindeled(sp?) my (Living)flame. lol  I instantly remembered why I liked to make games so much, and now I am back to the way I was.  For those who have played my game thus far, know that I put my soul into making it (yes, it sounds corny, but whatevs).  And, that's how I make games.  I put myself into it so others can do the same while playing it.  So what I've been trying to say is that is what I got back.  No more half-assing for me.  It's back to the good 'ol way I was making my game. :)

Phew, now that I got all that out of there, all I need to do is just let you guys know that as per posted above, I am now making my game at top speed.  I'll post more as things progress.  And they will. :D

Oh, and what's an update without a screen?  Nothing for the newbs that go straight to it. :p

Screen: It's an inner to South City.  Btw, the city is very massive.  Very massive.  and you get to freely roam it in the next demo. :D

Hm, well, I'd show the City, but the comp with my game file can't be used for...*ahem* resons.  But when I get to access it, I'll take screens.  With this in mind, I dont know the exact measure of the city.  But If I had to take a real good guess, I'd say 170x155.  Somewhere real close to that.  ^^'

Title: Update
Post by: Linkforce on June 08, 2006, 02:12:11 AM
Well, about two and a half weeks since I last updated, and I just thought it was the right time to do so.  So, let's get on with it.

So, I've been doing alot of everything lately.  Going back and forth from map to map, scene to scene, fixing up small errors, and adding more things to add to realism and experience.

I've added a new section to Serpent Cave, with a Mini-Boss before Sklizardas (Serpent Cave Boss).  The whole scene is really cool, and it involves the mysterious language of my game.

That's right, I've added a new language into the game.  It's basically an old, dead language.  Like a Latin language but in the CD world.  Get it?  Here's an example:

"Sesevesen swasans asa swisimmising"
^I'll give spoilers to whoever guesses what that says first^

Yeah, that's the language (no name yet) and it's used by people who were from Old Kelevor/want the new Kelevor to become the old one.

Oh, as many of you know, I lost alot of stuff from Chapter 2, previously...well, I've begun to redo that and it's coming out great.  I hope remember it all, lol.  :S

Well, not much else to say.  things are going smoothly, and production rate is increasing daily.  Hope everyone is still interested and still fans.  :)
Oh, and here's a screen.........XD  I couldn't resist.  :p

If you take out the first and third letter of each word....

"eevesen wsans s wsimmising"

I think I win.

An odd language. Very odd with so many S ...was that really necessary? It sucks that you lost a major part of Chapter 2 but doing something a second time might bring up new ideas and fix some problems if there was any. You should know that muché

As far as the screenshot is concerned...all I've got to say is that I'll write 'Mosey' but never say it out loud.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on June 09, 2006, 12:35:11 AM
Hm...you raise a good point.  I might edit the language a bit.  Throw in something else and/or move some letters around to make it an actual language.  xD

YAY! at the update. I almost pissed my pants when i saw the topic alive again!

but yah, as usual things are lookin great! Sux about Chapter 2, but like blackskullwarlock said, it could be better 2nd time around!

Keep up the excellent work
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on June 11, 2006, 06:08:35 AM
I suggest instead of just making up words as you go, make the whole language. In my game, I have a notebook filled with words for writing Dei' Chak. Certain letters when next to each other are combined, vowels change the last letter, etc. It makes it cool to have a new language instead of modified english. Well, the dwarves speak a mutilated german dialect, but still! XD
Title: URGENT NEWS!!
Post by: Linkforce on June 11, 2006, 05:37:28 PM
Ok, I have some news that is bad now...and could become worse.

My computer, my main computer, is out of commision.  That is the computer with my main game file on it.  Last night, it just dies.  Bang, gone.  It just shut down and wouldnt start up.  My dad unplugged it and is going to send it to his friend to get rid of any virus that fried it.  Now, while this friend is cleaning it up, it might delete my Rm2k3 and all of the recources and stuff.  I added sooo much more stuff to it since the one I posted here, and if it gets deleted...well....then it might be a very long time until CD returns again.

I can always download the one I posted here, but it is so old compared to the new one that I had.  So, if it gets deleted, CD may be over.  I don't think I can do all that work for the third time in a row.  So, I'm going to hope to god that nothing will happen to it.  I'll be crushed if it's all gone. :x

Title: Don't Give Up!
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 11, 2006, 06:06:48 PM
The same thing happened to my game 3 times! A worm ate everything I had saved up. It felt like the end of the world for me. Did I give up? No! If it does get deleted, don't quit! Take this time to write out the storyline. You already know the characters, you have a general idea of your world, and based on what I've seen, you have a lot of support behind you here in this site. Instead of quitting IF it gets deleted, just think of it as a chance to make it better.

When did this forum get new smilies?

Thanks for your sympathy guys.  The comp was sent to the guy to be fixed today, so there's nothing I can do now but hope for the best.  If the game does get deleted, I'll probably need a day or two to re-gain my composure.  If it doesn't get deleted, it's right back to work.
Just keeping you guys updated.  ^^''

Well, it hurts to say it, but it seems like my game got deleted.  Yes, it does really really really suck.  I just keep thinking about all of the recources and maps and events that I made and are now gone.  ALOT was deleted, but I have not stopped.  There's no way I can stop making this game now.  But...it will be awhile until I get back to where I was.

I thank everyone who cared enough to post and wish good luck.  thanks guys. :)

Anywho...since I lost alot, I would very much appreciate if whoever did something for me could send it to me via PM.  This would help greatly and it would help me get back on track with my game.  Oh, I also decided to continue the game here on my labtop, rather then on the regular comp, for fear of it esploding again.  Well, wish me good luck.

Meis: LMAO!!!

Thanks to you guys for the support.  It's actually not that bad doing it all over.  I mean...it's alot to redo, but it doesn't seem like a hassle...yet...lol.

Just a small update, I changed the chipset for Serpent Cave.  I hated the one I was using for quite some time.  The one I'm now using has no spikes, but I edited it, and added in my own spikes.  So the layout is still the same, just a diff. chip.  Here, maybe a screen will make more sense.

Meh dude, it sucks youl ost Carpe Diem, but you can do better mapping than that. That bridges in the first screen just kills it. Sorry dude. :(

Title: Update!
Post by: Linkforce on June 25, 2006, 05:02:22 PM
Thanks sfor all the comments guys.  I appreciate it.  ^^

Before I update, I need to post something in big capitol, bold letters:
*Ahem*

IF YOU HAVE DONE ANYTHING FOR MY GAME AT ALL IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, CAN YOU PM IT TO ME, BECAUSE I MOST LIKELY LOST IT AND NEED IT.  THANK YOU

Anywho,

As for the update, I've been going through the game and I realized I did lose quite a bit, but remaking thus far has not been a pain like I thought it would be.  I just finished Baven, and am now onto Serpent Cave.
Baven came out alot better then it was before, so I'm quite pleased.  I added some people around the village doing things and it added more life to the village itself.
No screens today, for obvious reasons, but I have  suprise later on today for all you folks.  BSW knows what I mean.  ;)
Title:

Surprise,YAY!!! Hope they are sum`cookies huh?
Title: Suprise!...kinda....
Post by: Linkforce on June 27, 2006, 05:30:30 AM
Well, I guess it's not much of a suprise, but there is a new member to the CD crew.  Yes, I have another Main character.

But now you're probably thinking, "Gee wilikers Linkforce, but if there are only 7 Soul Flames, how can there be 8 Main characters?!"

And then I respond with, "Think outside the box, dummy. *Slap*  He will fit in very very nicely."

Anywho:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Ledron.png
Name: Ledron Key
Age: 9
Sex: Male
Weapon: Small training staff
Description/Bio: When Ledron was two years old, both of his parents died from seperate illnesses.  At age 3, he was adopted by a man named Tomura Miyagin; a martial artist who specializes in peaceful fighting that does not invlolve the use of limbs.  While Ledron was adopted, Tomura had already adopted another child by the name of Simon Ramlik; a child prodigy who by the age of 7, could solve all types of Algebraic equations in his mind.
Ledron was always a hot-head, and tryed to be tough and show off whenever he could.  While he trained with Tomaru, he would always fight until he could no longer stand.  And when he lost, he would then make up an excuse.  Ledron was not the type to take defeat so easily...even though he lost quite often.

So, what do you guys think?

Hiya everyone!  It's me, and I have exceptionaly great news!  There will be no screens, so for lazy people, simply hit the "Main Page" button and have a nice day.

For all my fans out there, I have good news.
This entire week has been filled with late nights, and long periods of work.  So, I am glad to say that all I have lost has been redone, and regained, and is super!  Yes, everything has been gone over and the game so far is flawless. (Except for my running system)

I can now start off where I left off before I lost everything.  this means that the game is moving forward from here on out.

With this in mind, I am getting closer and closer to another Demo.  Right now, give me one week until I have a solid outlook on progress, and I will have a release date.  :D

It's easy to make normally, but he wants a refined way of doing it that is very hard in the DBS, where you have to press certin keys in combination and ect to learn the skill.

Post by: Linkforce on July 09, 2006, 05:44:02 PM
Hey guys.  Well, I've been working on my game alot lately, and the progress is really showing.  I've detailed many things, and have added a couple of new scenes which I think are very well played and add alot more mystery to the game.

I haven't posted a screen in a while, so here are two new screens, from 2 new scenes I have made:

^Alkamar has a flashback of a memory that is triggered by deja vu^

^The introduction of the Remolites is triggered by an OTOS event.  They're like the Moogle of the game if you will^

Hope you guys like it. ^^

I like the new screens. I have one suggestion for that first pic of the royal bedroom. I'd put in a rug under the bed. Otherwise it looks good.

BTW I have MSN working now. But my dad installed it behind my back so for now, my username is da4halls. _sweat_

Looking Good. Since I helped you make the blitz skill, can I beta test?
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on July 09, 2006, 06:05:00 PM
If you're going to have black and white for flashbacks, you should have a black and white system as well. Grey, if you will.

You can make the currect system you use black and white by opening photoshop and turning it to gray scale. If you don't have photoshop, there's a longer way I can tell you that involves pictures and screenshots.
Title: Update!
Post by: Linkforce on July 15, 2006, 04:38:02 PM
Hey guys!  Ok, its been a few days, and we have much to discuss.  Things have changed and I feel the need to point them out.

First off, I'll head on over to the Arakian Six.  Two members have changed appearances.  one is drastic the other is moderate.  Here's how they changed via screen.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/ArakianSixChange.png
Both of the new charasets I found in the charas recources.  I think they look better.  Opinions?

Now onto progress, and A RELEASE DATE!

Yes, you heard me...a release date.  Due to overwhelming progress, I have managed to conclude a date when everything in chapter 2 will be complete.  Keep in mind that this date is subject to change.  So, for now, I have dubbed the release date for:
July 29th

So mark your calenders kiddies.  This is teh date.

Now, as far as the game goes, everything is going smoothly.  I'm eventing new scenes and am currently eventing a quest in the South Castle.  It's pretty cool but will take a few days to complete.  I have a screen here, that is past where I am, but it is the scene that concludes after the quest is complete.

Bear in mind that this is not the final shot.

Basically, the Southern King is giving a speech to the entire City.  Courtesy to Meiscool for the map.
I think it looks pretty good so far....I'll add more people and some animals I guess....

Anyways, thats the update.  Enjoy!  ^^

Ok, since your all good sports, here's two new screens.

Beggining scene of Chapter 3.  (Yes, thats right!)  Players of the first demo know why Skylar and Evelor are on a lifeboat.

That night........a vicious storm.  You cant really see, but its heavily raing, wind gusting...water moving very fast....and its all white-ish because I managed to capture the end of a flash of lightning.....complete with sound!  ^^

Apparently, I'm LF's slave forever or something: so here goes your daily update or something:

"Hey, guys.  I can't seem to log on to Charas in this comp and my other comps internet is all haywire.  But dont you worry, CD is completely safe.  But it seems that I must push back my release date.

But before before you start with your "I knew it" and your "Damn liar", just remember that I specifically said that the date was subject to change. I dont know how far the date has been pushed back, but if I had to guess I'd say about 2-3 weeks.  Progress is still very good, but there's alot to the second chapter which is making it take so long.

Well, thats all I had to say.  I'll let you guys know when I log back on how much time I will need.  Thanks for reading.  ^^'"

In other words, as far as I can tell, we're all doomed.

*Ahem* Thanks for that Bluhman.

So yeah...sorry guys, I wont have the demo out by the said date.  Part of that reason is that I'm going away for a week.  ^^'

Hey all!  Well, its been over a week and I've made some progress.  There isnt much left of Chapter 2, so a demo is looking good for very soon.  Ok, so I know I say that alot, and after re-reading my entire thread, I realized how many times I have failed to deliver.  Well, here it is folks.  This is it.

I will release the newest demo:  August 22nd

That's it.  There are no ifs ands or buts.  That's what it is and it shall remain that.  I will NOT fail this time.  There WILL be a demo out on that date, and you will all love it.  :p

That's basically the update.
No screens, because it's too close to release to post one.  :p

Hey guys.  Just letting you know that the demo will still be out on the said date.  Only three more days until it's out.  I just have a little bit more to add to finish up the second chapter, and then to just go through the whole game one more time to fix up any other bugs.  Try not to explode from all the suspense.  ;)

Title: Demo #2
Post by: Linkforce on September 08, 2006, 03:56:22 AM
Well, here it is.  The moment that should've happened almost a month ago.  Sorry about the huge delay, but my internet died the day of the release.  Sorry guys.

But without further adue (or w/e) I present to Charas:

*Drumroll*

Carpe Diem: The Living Flame Demo #2 (http://www.savefile.com/projects/1009128)

Now, whilst downloading the demo, please read these points to better understand things.

1. Some battle sprites are not made yet.  So if a sprite turns invisible, just do your best to continue.  I will get them soon enough.
2. Any recource with a CD in front of it is not open to public use.  Unless with my permission first.  I would really appreciate that.
3. To get the full experience of the intro, it is advised that you warm up RM2k3 with another game first, to reduce skipping.  (The intro is timed with the music.)
4. The sprinting system is not perfected.  So be careful when using it.  Especially when climbing ladders.  Um..you also cant exit to the World Map while sprinting.  It's another thing I can't fix yet.
5. If there is anything else, that I forgot, check here and I will add it.
6. Meis, delete your post.  XD

Enjoy the demo guys!!!!!!!!!!

Cutscenes...painfully...long...

Feel...like...playing...Xenosaga...

Please make more save points and put in some more interactive stuff. I'm on the part where you find the soldiers. I really don't like going through that flying cat cutscene.

Other than that, very nice.

Post by: Nandez on September 10, 2006, 12:50:20 AM
Well what can I say?In the beginning its cliche but Everygame these days fan or pro is Cliche in the beginning its how it continues that makes a diffrence and i'll stick around and wait to see how it continues. While I was annoyed that I couldn't save on the world map because soon after I need to save the game froze and I had to go through a few very long cutscenes again and travel a little ways. While the mapping is good the color of some of the characters offend my eyes like Trance but I guess thats personnel taste more than anything. Good job though.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 10, 2006, 05:15:13 AM
Aboutaso: The game will be full of long cutscenes.  It's just how I like to tell my story.  As the game progresses and gets out of all the introductions, it will become more interactive.  I first have to introduce a lot of characters as you can see so far.
Oh, and what was wrong with the Remolite scene?  I thought it was rather humerous.

Nandez: How was the begining cliche?  Can you be more specific please?
And about saving on the World Map...I can see where you're coming from that.  I may just allow you to save their.

Any reviews anyone?
Title:
Post by: Nandez on September 10, 2006, 05:37:16 AM
Well I won't go into long details but for example.Your hero start off by telling his story gong somewhere then decided to say I should start at the begining. No big deal then he goes off meet his friend one of them suggests to go his hometown on there way they run into a montser to hard but some strange just happens to pass by and saves there asses. Like I said I won't go deep deep into detail but again like I said no big deal. When I said cliche I may have spoken out of term. I didn't mean like Oh my God! This is so cliche. Just like oh well this happens in games time to time but its going nicely.
I mean even the same things happen in my game. So no real big deal it went smoothly.

The only problem I have is when the cave was shaking my eyes where hurting during that entire part because it was continious and took a few extra seocnds to get through the dirt and exit the cave.

So far my review I give 8 out of 10.

And I give your mapping skills a 9 out of 10 because seriously alot of the maps you put together look really beautiful.I enjoyed them very much.
Title:
Post by: Linkforce on September 10, 2006, 06:16:50 AM
Oh...well in the beggining he is going somewhere.  But where you see him walking is actually scenes from him telling the story from the begining.  Know what I mean?

Also, I've gotten a lot of complaints about the Cave shaking, so I fixed it up a bit.

Glad you like it so far.  ^^
Title:
Post by: I Have a Sandwich on September 10, 2006, 06:17:42 AM
Yeah, I have to agree with em. Then cutscenes are rather long, but you usually have a chance to save immediately after the big ones so its not problem. I usually just have a REALLLLLy long one at the start, and mini-scenes the rest.

REVIEW'D.

Graphics - 8/10

I'm impressed :) . You've done a good job of making your poses and battle animations as fluid and smooth as possible, and it's damn fine to see them all working together. The style of your maps and charsets match up well, and I love the way the battle background reflects the map. And your World Map chipset is bloody lush. Well done.

Music - 7/10

Mixed bag here. Your battle and boss MIDIs are excellent and I love them. The music really suits the events that are happening as well. There were a few that let the side down though; the MIDIs for the road in the intro and the West Continent Checkpoint
gave me a headache. But that's just personal taste, so it's okay.

Story - 9/10

Not much to say here. It's just good old Carpe Diem, the way it should be. Good job.

(And, in my humble opinion, it's not clichéd at all)

Gameplay - 9/10

Excellent. Everything works fluidly, smoothly, and it's hard to find fault with it. The battle system is great (Exactly how the DBS should be used), and the difficulty setting is just right (Though the boss in the cave is difficult if he keeps using Scale Armour - I ended up doing no damage to him and died several times before I beat him). I enjoyed the whole thing. No problems here.

Systems/Extras - 7/10

Only 7 because there wasn't an awful lot to be shown. But, I did like what was there. I want to know how you made that Dash system (You will know from Radiance's first demo that mine failed horribly :)), and the rest of what you had was well made. You obviously have a brilliant understanding of Rm2k3. Good job.

Total - 40/50

Total Percentage - 80%

Linkeh, you've made a lot of progress, and the game is looking great. Now keep up the good work or I shall put sandpaper in your pants. :D

Ok time for a few mistakes made in the game. Sometimes when the bards play theres no music if there isn't supposed to be nevermind. I encounter spelling errors quite a bit no big ones just missing letters and such, I would chalk it up to the keys not being hit hard enough but its the same words everytime but no big deal. You can also walk on the mayors wife after you do the chimney quest and I couldn't leave town until I reset the game after everything had been completed for some strange reason. Trance is also not in your party at all or at least not shown from there to the boat. The Sea Background I think should be removed because when your charcater starts moving and you get close to the boat it looks more like well everything is floating and since its the sea it shouldn't :P. I found a few errors while your Alkamar, he can walk on tables and the guards are floating above him. When you walk into the kitchen your screwed right away Because you put boxes in the doorway so when you enter Alkamar gets stuck and you have to reset a ways back if you didn't save even if you did you have to go through his and kings cutscene again. While Alkamar is walking and your not controlling him he'll go to a door or staircase and spend about 7 seconds before it switches to the next place which is to long I thought the game froze 3 times but it didn't. Ok thats all I have to report so far.
Title: Maybe Another Comment.
Post by: aboutasoandthis on September 12, 2006, 07:55:10 PM
There are a few things I'm concerned about, but they're not important.

I'm glad you fixed some of the dialogue, but you should really use analysis instead of analyzation in the intro. Also, the DBS wasn't that great for me. It needed more..."options." All you could do was use a healing item when you had one, attack, or use some non-important special attack. It seemed all I had to do was Attack Attack Attack as fast as I can. Where was the strategy?

I won't bother making a review since Dragonium already made an excellent one. Even if it is a little overhyping.  :p

What was the exact time-phrame of your game? It went from Futuristic, to Industrial Revolution, to Medieval.

Now that that's out of the way....(Thanks to whoever deleted those posts)

*Ahem*

Nandez: What Bard are you talking about?

And thanks for the list.  I fixed the mistakes.  Thanks.  ^^'
Oh, and Trance is not in the party, because he hasn't  technically joined your party.

Aboutaso: I fixed up some of those things.  Oh, and the battles are pretty straight forward, because you have to remember that it's only the beggining of the game.  Down the road, it will get more complex.  Promise. :P

Oh, and about the time-phrame, its basically the reamains of a once highly advanced civilization, which is now in the process of regaining its technology.  That's why there are labs and such.  Need further explaining?
Title: Nope
Post by: aboutasoandthis on September 15, 2006, 11:30:42 PM
That pretty much covered it.  :D

Oh and be careful if you're trying to make this a long game by just adding an episode once in a while. It might end up like "The Way." It could get boring if you don't finish the story and don't aim to end the game.

Also, you might wanna elaborate a little more on this military thing Haru joined. Maybe a text box or two with a moving map showing exactly what they do. I want to see why he's off duty, and what that's all about.

Other than that, keep working at it.

Aboutaso: I'm not sure where you're going with this, but the Episodes have already been pre-determined.  I will have 3 episodes.  It's not like I'm making this up as I go.  Each episode will be another game.

Oh, and about Haru and what-not.  You're the frirst to bring that up.  But rest assured, that will all be xplained.  what's the point in rushing into things, eh?

Meis: Meh

Insane: Thanks.  ^^  Oh, and if I find other SFX I'll be sure to use 'em.

Nandez: I'll fix that harp girl.

And The two guys on the boat DO play.  The music in the backround, and for the rest of that scene is them playing.  Thought it would be understood in the game though..........

I've began game production once again, and I'm starting to map and event for Chapter 3.  Never thought I'd be talking about CHapter 3.  Hehe.....been stuck on Chapter 2 for way too damn long.

Anywyas, I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out with the maps.  I need someone good at forrests.

Post by: aboutasoandthis on September 29, 2006, 08:22:45 PM
...this kind of thing. I've been working to keep my grades up and to actually try so now I don't have the downloading time.

I kind of agree with Meis. I think it's because that chipset is overused. I'd focus more on the dark green and have it cover more of the forest than the grass. Either that, or a new chipset.

I guess I'll give a review. I like this game.

Story: 7/10.
It was a little too split up for me. It felt like different storylines were mashed together at random points. Each storyline was nice, but it didn't really flow. Remember, I did not read your original site's game synopsis, and I think it's important that it be easy to understand without having to read it. Think about the first time players who have never even heard of your site. Just give more background details to everything. Answer why more.

From what I got of the story, a governmental force has been using an invention to find the "Soul Flames." They are important people. I don't know why they're important, but they just are. This government thinks they have found another one. This same government has been experimenting to create super-soldiers as well. They want to use them in a war against this one kingdom.

Under all of that mess, A guy after disappearing for four years decides to go visit his hometown and runs into several annoying blockades.

Each character had an interesting story, that could make their own game. They need to unify somehow, and much earlier in the game. There is too much I don't know that I need to know, and they need to be introduced earlier.

Sound 9.5/10
Well deserved. This part counts both music and the sound effects.

The sound effects were clean and not annoying. They always matched their background. I could've used a few more though. The battle sound effects were awesome. The sword slashes, the killing sound, everything just flowed.

The music was good, but you can do better. The music was overall very pleasant to the ears. Some were even hard to recognize. I took a point off because of a few annoying situations.

Sometimes I heard a single song too much and I needed a break from it. I remember being in the castle and wanting the soldier cutscenes to turn off or turn down the music, and to use goofy sound effects instead.

There were some parts that were missing music, like the bard and the woman Nandez was talking about. I also would've liked to have heard a victory song. The battle song was kind of annoying to me.

Graphics: 7.5/10
There were some parts that just looked ugly, and some parts that looked cool. I count "out of battle graphics" and "in battle graphics."

Out of battle: You could've used more "matching" graphics in part one. Maybe from the same game. The maps could've been a bit better. No, I'm not counting the one Meis did. The charasets looked a little funny. Especially the princess. I did like the use of lighting effects in the game. The sun rays looked almost real, which is creepy since a few were just 2 colors...
The world map was okay.

In Battle: For the most part, I liked it. You had a lot of poses in your characters. I wish they could move a little more as some of them look "stiff." Maybe you should try having each character move a different part of their body by one pixel for all three frames. This is just to keep it interesting. The battle animations were smooth. I only remember one real monster sprite, and it wasn't very exciting. I think you'd be much better off with a new one.

Gameplay:?/10
There wasn't much. Level up, get 50 potions, press enter really really fast. I'll just skip this section.

Averaged Together: 8/10

Final Thoughts:
More unity to the storyline for first timers. Otherwise, it's a little confusing. A few pixel edits so the poses to the characters don't look so stiff. More battle gameplay.

 :)

Thanks for the review Aboutaso.

But as to what you said about the story, it is split up in the beggining, because if I unified them early, it would make the game shorter.  This game is very long, so everything goes at a normal pace.  No need to rush things.

And you don't have to read my site to know whats going on.  Yes, alot of things aren't explained and it is very confusing, but everything will be explained in due time.  If all your questions would be answered right away, there would be no fun in playing it.  Because you would want to keep playing to find out what things mean and what things are and etc.  Know what I mean?

Anywho, I'm glad you liked it and thanks again for the review.  :)
Title: Update!
Post by: Linkforce on October 12, 2006, 09:20:12 PM
Well, it's been a little over a week, and Carpe Diem is going very strong.  I've been working alot for the past two weeks, and I have accomplished alot.  Chapter 3 is well under way, and it is going alot faster than previously thought.  Nothing else to really update on.  Nothing has changed, but as far as progress goes, it's great.  Here are a couple of screens from Chapter 3.

^Sky and crew are taken to Tomuras house unconcious^

^The "dungeon" that Ledron must go through.

^A flashback that Ledron has while in the forest^

^A fairy explains to Ledron that he is stuck in a mirage that the forest produces^

^Ledron doesn't believe it and goes back to find that the mirage has closed him in^

Enjoy!!  :D

I disagree, I actually think it looks great. I'd say that it does need a bit more life, but you can add some bugs and frogs and things for that. ;)

I'm very impressed with your screens, you're great at making good, fuctional maps (ie. Maps that suit their purpose and aren't over-complicated with scenery and detail). And it's great to hear that everything's going so strongly.

Keep it up, good luck. :)
