Title: MMORPG's
Post by: Dragonium on August 28, 2005, 06:06:38 PM
So, I was just wondering, a lot of people play MMORPG's, so do you have any favourites? Or ones you can recommend?

NB: On a side note, does anyone play Terra Online? My client has something wrong with it, but I dunno what... :|

You are about to download a file with a size close to 500 Mega Bytes, so you may experience a long download time varying from 30 minutes to 1-2 days.

XD

The problem I have is that my computer has ridiculously little RAM and my internet connection is so slow, hence I can't play most things. I reckon if I tried Gunz my hard drive would eat itself.

I don't go on Runescape that often. I was Level 36 last time I checked.

I'd just like an old-fashioned, 2D MMORPG that doesn't take an immaculate connection to download and play, or the latest japanese supercomputer to run. Which fits the bill of Terra Online, except my client has something wrong with it, and refuses to run. It claims it's the memory's fault, but it isn't. Meh.

Smokey. Rose, any good?

Dail up isn't too good for mmorpgs, the only game I play online sometimes is Ragnorak online. The free server I used to play on went down, so I don't play it anymore though.

Since I can't download such a large file with dial up, I just had someone mail two disks to me from a couple states away :D

The MMORPG I played the most was RO.

I had a level ~60 blacksmith, ~70 Alchemist, ~85 Rogue.

I also played Rose, when it was free. I was doing well, I had a level 56 Dealer, but then I found it boring and I quit. I also didn't have the machine for it. As long as I was ahead of the peloton, I was safe, when I joined the hordes leveling in one area, I'd crash. Incidentally, I was ahead and my 56 Dealer was pretty cutting edge.

I also played Gunbound during University, it was cute but it became boring fast. I had a Palm Tree, that was it. The game was also populated by so many scammers.

What I'm interested in right now is Emil Chronicle Online. It's only in Japanese, information is scarse, but it looks great. It's like a 3D RO but with 2005 gameplay.(or so)

The coolest about it is that 1/3 of the classes are "artisan" oriented, the yellow group. Since it's pretty much the only classes I play, I'll have a field day. I have a choice between a Farmer, Gatherer, Ranger or Dealer/Merchant. Man, can't decide!
System specs are also way above me but I might be able to upgrade if I can find some pennies in University, if not, well too bad.

And anyone who played ECO right now, fill me in, EVERYTHING, lol.

 Tibia.
 www.Tibia.com

 Graphics = Horrible
 Sound = Nonexistant

 but....

 Easy to play = Yeah
 Jogability = Good
Bosses = Hard, what is good, theres no fun in killing Orshabaal in one hit. (Orshabaal is the meanest monster, by the way. It was necessary 2 Paladins in the lvl 200 / more, and 1 Sorcerer and 1 Druid (also lvl 180 or so) to make it lose 30% of its life. And after that, they were killed.... in one hit, all four. (lvl 180 is HUGE, so you know.))

But everyone who see it just say: "Look those graphics! It's a tree frame walking anymation!" and never play anymore. But its FREE! FREEEEEEEEE! To quote my dad:

I wouldn't even play it unless you have a really good cpu and a dsl or better internet. The game is really croweded, I mean really. It's not for everyone.. but I like it, I make money off of it (USD)

Mm, yeah, I used to play Tibia. I don't that often any more though, it's always too crowded. I only play on Calmera, I'm sick of the PK servers. Fact is, if you go looking for strong monsters, chances are it's another player that will go hunting for you.

I've played Everquest (lvl IDunno Paladin.. what, its been a while), Dark Age of Camelot (don't even bother with this one), and most recently Star Wars Galaxies (Master Rifleman).

SWG is kinda fun until you master your profession, then your just trying to find something to do. Most people in SWG are looking for a challenge, so everyone and their pet is becoming a Jedi or a Bounty Hunter (so they can hunt the Jedi). The game quality should improve once they fix the GCW, which is the system that allows rebels to fight imperials and have fun doing it.

Right now, I'm looking forward to Star Trek Online, supposed to come out in 2007. I don't know if I'll like it or not, but it's worth giving a try. Not playing ANY games at the moment.... theres just nothing good out. I might pick up Fable: The Lost Chapters... or Black & White 2 when it comes out.... just to hold me over until BattlefrontII... wait.. this has nothing to do with MMOs.

Coincidentaly or not, I play in Calmera. And now its easier to log in, 'cause the max number of players online is now 900, instead of 800.

I play Ragnarok in private servers...

Grandy, Tibia´s "jogability"?
Title:
Post by: FFL2and3rocks on August 29, 2005, 05:12:09 PM
I play Runescape quite a bit. I used to  play a few other free MMORPGs, but I quit playing them.

Dark Ages - Horrible game. Walk up to an enemy and hold down Spacebar to watch a crappy attack animation until the monster dies.

Dark Eden - It was fun at first, but people have discovered a speed hack that lets them walk really fast and attack 10 times per second, and an infinite HP hack as well. Really took the fun out of the game.

Mu - Overall boring game. I never got into it.

Lol, I was just messing with u dude...

A while ago I was playing Lineage II. It has the bestest graphics and is a very nice game, but the thing is: the world is too enourmous. Gargantual. That should be a good thing, but going from a town to another in this game could take 20 minutes, for real...

I used to play tibia. I enjoyed it, I even bought a premmy account. And now I know how horrible it is. I have to admit it have some good weapons and monsters, but:

LAG!
Spammers!
Player Killers!
Spammers!
I was hacked like 4 times
Spammers!
People always steal your kills or, when you go to a good place to train, people is already there
Spammers!
Servers are always full
Spammers!

My grades at school went down and I got angry with some friends more than once. I don't really recommend it, unless you are really patient, you don't get angry easily, you are on vacations, and you have no friends there.

World of Warcraft just isn't fun to me at all. IT just seems like all other online rpg's except updated....no unique battle system, Like Conquer Online, just another RPG such as Guild Wars, FF11 and games of that type.

Alls MMOs are essentially the same now because no one is original enough to make a new system. They all basically run off the same engine but have different story elements thrown in. Lightsabers to make it a Star Wars MMO, phasers to make it a Star Trek MMO, a sword to make it a fantasy MMO.

I'm surprised this engine isn't as readily available as RPG Maker, so anyone who can operate a mouse can make an MMO and charge $15 a month for people to play it. :p

 Flyff (http://english.flyff.com)

Well, this game just looks like ROSE Online, but I think it's better. Good graphics, they're a little kid but good anyway.

The great featureis that you can fly level 20 or more. You use a board to fly, a free flying over the giant scenario, in a amazing way to control.

You'd be surprised how different they are to people who have actually, y'know, played them. :P

For example, FFXI is really slower than other MMOs. Abilities aren't used nearly as often, and partying is a big factor. Guild Wars, however, players quicker, and you use your abilities a lot. Plus, parties aren't that integral since you get grouped automatically in party situations.

Conquer

sound: some repetitive, but good.
music: none.
strategy needed: Hardly anything, i mean it.
monsters: almost all the same just stronger then eachother.
locations: beautifful, large.

Rose:
sound: good.
music: HORRIBLE, MUTE IT, MUTE IT NOW!!!.
strategy: Monsters spawn depending on how you fight.
monsters: Ive never seen a bean as the weakest enemy in a game, so awesome.
locations: 3d, graphics are real good, stuff looks sorta like. kingdom hearts, to bad this game is going to become P2P (pay to play).

Maple Story (my current sad addiction)
sound: repetitive and non-inspiring.
music: some are good, some are MUTE!!! worth.
strategy: Platform jumping, attack locations, treacherous obstacles :p.
monsters: some are awesome, but... mushrooms... please...
locations: very well made, lots of hidden stages (ie. pig beach)

Gunz (I would play this, but i dont have cable anymore)
sound: Nice and gunful.
music: good, but only very few songs.
strategy: fighting is based purely on skill, but equip/apparel helps to.
monsters: other people.
locations: very few, pixalated graphics, very detailed though.

Neverwinter Nights (ie. pvp arenas, diablo rip off modules)
sound: Very good, spell chants need to be more varied though
music: I donno, it seems to build up to nothing, and goes like that for everysong.
strategy: D&D 3rd edition, id say... quite alot.
monsters: LOTS!!!! all are awesome, exept goblins.
locations: Limitless, especially the modules people make.

Adventure quest (the badly done FF rip off)
sound: Horrible, sort of crumbly.
music: it doesnt deserve it nor has it.
strategy: attack, cast spells, as long as you have the elemental upperhand.
monsters: to many, lots of pallete swaped ones to.
locations: i town, a tower, lots of random backgrounds.

runescape
sound: ewwwww
music: ewwwww
strategy: click a target, lvl grind....
monsters: very blockfull ones, the DREADED GOBLIN!!!!
locations: nothing inspiring, kind of bland.

ive played quite alot, but, i dont wanna get into them.
