English: During being on holiday, I got the idea to make a game out of a comic book in both Dutch and English. It is Suske en Wiske 218 - De krachtige krans (The Circle of Power), and the story would start at Aunt Sidonia trying to find a place for destination of holiday. It would use the original names, and I would even try to graphic it by myself. In any case, I WOULD think of it using its own soundtrack, as anybody could expect.
The date of the comic is 1988, and was originally drawn by Paul Geerts, and the scenario was done by the same person.
Characters:
Main Characters:
Suske (Spike): The last living relative of the commander of the Antverpia who founded the state Amoras on an island, Franciscus Antigoon.
Is very kind and good-willed.
Wiske (Suzy): Louise has been on the series ever since the first adventure. She always tries to get her own will, but is also very nice, as long as nobody tries to steal her puppet Schanulleke (Sawdust)
Sidonia:
As well as Louise, she has always been in the series, no matter what.
Lambik (Ambrose?): He can be arrogant and dumb, but when complimented he can be a nice person. In any case he is daring.
Jerom/Jerôme (Jethro?): A muscleman. He has been there ever since the adventure of the Mad Musketeers, but he is very kindhearted, and does not need encouraging for it.
Secondary characters:
Lord and Lady Ferryold (Creakbone is an invalid translation.): This couple of old people is pure evil, despite their appearance. They are very manipulative, and dispose of Lambik by the time the Circle of Power is complete.
Lord Skin-Flint (Shutpurse is an invalid translation): An evil Lord, whose gift to control people has gone to his painting...
James: The butler of the couple Ferryold, he has a colourless existance, save for the birds he takes care of. He is very emotional despite his appearance and acting.
The Long Man of Wilmington: This sand giant is an enchanted piece of country, and is the servant of the possessed Lambik. He stands in the way of the party various times, and can only be eliminated with water.
Sister Seven: The last of the Seven Sisters still alive, she keeps the light that never dampens, before she is given a lighthouse. She is old.
Barbery: A barber who mysteriously disappeared..
Sorce: A French professor who mysteriously disappeared...
Hanimal: A famous zoologist who mysteriously disappeared.
Madame Swiss: A Swiss botanist, who mysteriously disappeared...
The story starts off with Aunt Sidonia who had been trying to find a destination for holiday all week. Not long left Suske and Wiske come in from having done what they had to do. Not long after that, Lambik and Jerome kick in too, and so a noisy conversation occurs about the destination. Finally, a headwrapped Lambik throws a dart at the world map, pointing at Sussex in England. And so they go, except for leaving Lambik behind to fix the house a bit. When fixing the book cases, he stumbles from his ladder and finds a book about Sussex...After a call, he hurries to the area, but needs to get the tire of his car fixed, and so drives into an area that a man said was cursed...and gets swallowed by a pink cloud.
I have been thinking of this, and would translate it into 2 languages, if people would approve of this idea.
EDIT: A combination of both the Dutch and English version is essential for a good flow-together. I'll start working for this alright.

Here is a description of the main characters in Dutch:

Any comments would be appreciated.
-
Honestly....I dont like the idea very much. But if you do make it...please dont use the names Bob and Bobbette. lol Anyways..GL if you do it.
-
Well I might use the names where Suske and Wiske come from, Franciscus/Francis and Louise. That appeals more to me than the French Bob and Bobette. The Wreath of Power also appeals to me more than the UK Circle of Power though.
It would be the original Dutch/Flemish version and my own English translation if I were to bring it in development.
-
The idea, though original, is somewhat..... corny?
Yes, I guess that's a descriptive enough word.
Also, a pink cloud in a swamp, make it purple or something.
En... sounds more like a book or story then a game. I know you said "like a comic book" so perhaps you should make it an athuntic comic instead of a game.
-
Athuntic? What does that mean??
-
Ummm, I suck at spelling.
I think I ment althentic, but that could be spelled wrong too.
-
Authentic?
-
There we go. I new I had the letters a 'bit' jumbled.
-
Authentic? Meiscool, that word doesnt fit the situation, original would be the right word here.
-
What does one have against a game? Is it not worthy to try?
-
Ummmm, leon, authentic means the exact same thing as original.
I'm not saying it's bad or good, it just sounds more like something you would read or watch then something you would play.

nope, Authentic means real
-
Authentic also means to be of genuine origin.
To be real is one of its many definitions, but here I was using it to mean original.
-
I just did a google of that comic...
Was it done by the same guy who does Tintin? Cause if so, this has kindled my interest a little.
-
Authentic = real
Original = (ummm unused ? lol)
real cannot be used to describe Originality, its like me saying in your thread, I like the Authenticity of your story, because I would really be saying that your story correctly follows a certain topic (e.g. A politically correct game of war on earth)
-
Ok, to save myself froming having to get into another arguement with you, let's just say I ment "so perhaps you should make it a "real" combic book"
And, on a side note: Good lord Leon, there is more then one meaning for words. Real is one of the meanings, and created genuinly is also one of the meanings. Now leave this behind, I don't want to spam up this thread like we three did to that FFR game topic.

No, the original founder of that series was Willy Vandersteen, not Hergé. The Circle of Power was from the time his follower Paul Geerts was doing most of it, and Willy then died in 1990, leaving Paul Geerts and his assistant Marc Verhaegen left. Now, Paul Geerts has retired and Marc Verhaegen has been fired, so they got another new team for the series, currently waiting to release number 288 of the series.
And what's with that discussion?

A minor disagreement.

Quote bug for a while..this is really getting weird.

I have decided to give up. There don't seem to be many approving of this idea.
Besides, I already have a game to work on.
-
I have just bought an English translation of De Krachtige Krans, and I like it very much, even though the name replacements aren't truly accurate. Expect some more news during the following weeks.
I am going on with the idea, so who's with me?
-
aye aye!
-
Great Scott, what will you be trying to help with then?
