Title: Blocking the RPG_RT from being accessed?
Post by: Chaotic_Death on September 03, 2005, 06:24:14 PM
Several RM2K/3 games I've played have restricted access to their RPG_RT.exe file, prolly to block coding from being shown and the like.  I was wondering if there's any way I could do this, as there's an engine I'd like to show off, but I don't want anyone to use it.  And I know that if I leave it as open code, people would steal it anyway, and possibly claim it as their own.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me do this.

I'd be interested in this too. It also prevents most people from looking at your maps or using your sprites etc.

Apparently, there's a tool called RMRecker that can do that.

RMRecker was available to download at RPGInfinity, but their server crashed and it's been offline for several months.Try Googleing it, but you also need a patch file to fix some bugs that prevented you from using some of its features

I have RMRecker, all it does is allow you to change the Splash Screens/Logo/Glyphs.  It doesn't protect your RPG_RT or whatever.

RMRecker makes editing resources, such as splash screens, icons, and glyphs, in your RPG Maker games quick and easy. Just load the images into RMRecker and patch your executable. This makes customizing your games and making truly professional-looking products possible.

It's only illegal if it contains downloads for the RM2K/3/XP main program/installation.

There's a link to RMRecker in this post in the Gaming World forums: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19518

Woopsie. Sorry, didn't read that part...

Rast's RM2K Utility allows you to protect your RPG_RT file, and it's available at the same link.

Clearly you do not know how horrible it can be to create something to just have it be taken from another person and credited as thier own, then they start posting it and then you get called the copier and walla, your game is ruined and the thief's has begun, even though he did no work.

Plus, some of the scripts are extreamly hard to make, and we just don't want other people to use them. C_D made alot of Zelda items that no1 else has thus far, and it would be a shame from them to get stolen. The same case applies to me, I've been making an ABS and that has some really great spells, a magic ring, and several self-made things that I wouldn't want other people to take for thier own. It would break me to know that someone else is taking credit for the hours of work I've put into things.

Clearly you've never made a game that you consider to be valuable, but others have, and by themselves as well. It's just like nintendo making a game and forgetting to patnet it, then sending a demo out ot a few guys. Whoops, now that's not nintendo's game anymore!

its not that i end up completing a game that i made anyhow,
so i why should i care if people grab graphics from my game
folder. most of it would end up being mack graphics converted
for rmxp. which is much newbie-safe program, scripting is easy.

Exactly my point, you've never made a game or script of value.

I have to agree with Meiscool me and my friend made a game after a few months ( When we first started it... took a long time >_< ) and I wouldnt wan't anyone to ever steal what we made.. though it was nothing spectacular and he did most of the art work becouse I suck at it.. none-the-less I would go balistic seeing somoene useing the graphics me and him made  :guns:

Now since my friend lives in america and me sweden we are trying to have a competition with eachother, we will both make a game and exchange them to see which one we like more. If we decide we both like are own or vis-versa I like his more and he likes mine more we will let other people play them to see what they think... =) Now that my blabbing is over back to the main topic it isn't in my opinion, over portective to lock the RTP folder but simply smart! The only problem is if it locks it how I think it does by re-naming things and placing them in different places that can easily be re-aranged by a program.. I know becouse my dad has it :P When he beats a game he always go's back and uses cheats. He uses the hex editor to change his characters stats, equipment etc etc etc on just about ANY game. So far the largest game he's managed that on was Asherons Call Throne of Destiny though after he cheated himself 1lvl he needed 999999999exp to lvl again.. ( he got caught cheatin :P )
