Post by: Drace on September 10, 2005, 11:37:34 PM
Well, I've taken the time to get a list of know game-based movies.

1993: Mario Brothers (Haven't seen it, heard bad things about it.)

1994: Street Fighter (Seen it, didn't like it very much but it could last for mindless fighting)
1995: Mortal Kombat (Seen it, thought it was good.)
1997: Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (Haven't seen it, heard bad things about it.)
1999: Wing Commander (Haven't seen it, heard bad things about it.)

2002: Resident Evil (Seen it. Loved it.)
2003: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (Haven't seen it, heard bad things about it.)

2004: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (Not seen yet.)
2004: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (Seen it. Liked it very much.)

I think that in the other topic about this, we were talking about a Zelda movie, which I still think is a good idea if they skip most of the dungeon-crawling (it would get boring after a while) and just have Link going through a dark version of Hyrule Castle and duelling Ganon at the end.

Speaking of other Nintendo movies, how about Kirby? Or Starfox? Maybe Donkey Kong?
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on September 11, 2005, 12:19:37 AM
I remember seeing a Donkey Kong 3D 'cartoon' that played weekly.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is actually better than Mortal Kombat. If another Mortal Kombat movie is coming out, I'll be sure to buy it.

Kirby: Maybe for youngert kids, unless they have adult humour, blood, cornyness, ya you get my picture
Donkey Kong: HELL NO!!!! The last thing I want to see is a movie about a gorilla banging bongo drums and collecting bananas, unless they have some actually good humour in it
Star Fox:This would make a good movie, if they changed the voices and made them sound more serious/
Zelda: This would be my favourite choice, I've been a fan of Zelda for a long time (obviously, my name and avatar) and I've neemd looking forward to them anouncing a movie for ages.

What I would want to see would be Metroid. That would make an awesome movie. Or even a Sword of Mana movie.
Title:
Post by: WarxePB on September 11, 2005, 12:25:09 AM
Starfox, Zelda and Metroid would all make good movies if they were pulled off right. An awesome Arwing-Wolfen dogfight in Starfox, a mature-looking CG Link duelling a CG Ganon in Zelda, and Samus walking through a dark corridor with creepy music in the background - I would gladly pay for those moments.

Do you know what game WOULDN'T make a good movie? Pokemon... oh wait, they already did that like 6 times XP

Or how about Megaman.EXE? They already have a TV show, why not make a full movie?
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on September 11, 2005, 12:36:56 AM
I liked super mario bros, but I was 9 when I watched it.. I liked the super mario tv series a lot better though. I wish they still had it, I bearly remember anything from it, and it was on at 6 in the morning, so I hardly ever watched it.

The other movie I liked is tomb raider (the first one, the second one was horrible).

The reason most movies based off of games are horrible, is because plots for movies and games are designed differantly, and when you try to put a game plot in a movie, it sucks, and visa versa.

You know what was really good, the sonic tv series. The first one though, the second one blew, and the third one seems ok for a cartoon, but nothing like the first one.

1993: Mario Brothers (Haven't seen it, heard bad things about it.)

I think it was a good movie, it didn't follow the game's storyline, this means, no mushroom(spelt?!), well there IS mushrooms, but they don't make people big. No flowers, no Toad, and Yoshi isn't a talking-smart dinossaur, just a good dinossaur.

Quote
2001: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (Seen it. Thought it was good even though it had nothing to do with any of the games.)

 True, true.

I would like if they made a Suikoden-based movie, I think that serie would be great as a movie, the whole serie, you can cut half of the characters, if you want (108 characters in a movie? It would be the same as knowing the name of each clone in Star Wars!)

 EDIT:

King Kong was a good movie, so I can't see why Donkey Kong can't. Maybe if we ut him with other nintendo characters? The first Donkey Kong game featured him and Mario (jumpman), so why don't put both in the same movie?

 EDIT AGAIN:

Before Megaman.EXE they should do a Megaman, the first one, only Megaman, Roll, Rush, Dr. Light, Dr. Willy, Protoman, and the 6 robots from the first game. (Cutman, Iceman, Gutsman, Bombman, Fireman, Elecman)

In my opinion, and if I remember correctly, Annihilation was way worse than the first one. The second one they tried to shove too many characters into it. Which really made it suffer, but still it was Mortal Kombat and that instantly gives it much love from me. Curse you O'riley, now I'm addicted to it as well.

It's true that they tried to incorporate too many characters. Sheeva dies ridiculously early and Nightwolf only teach Liu Kang his Animality. Johnny Cage dies early on, Cyrax gets killed during his first first and so does Mileena and Smoke. Sub-Zero plays a minor role against Smoke and that's it.

I have to admit that I totally love the battle against Smoke...really awesome...and we get to see Kitana's weapons.

the Zelda show  Had Link, Zelda, Ganon (I think) and the fairy in them and in the end of episodes the fairy would always be jealous of Link and Zelda do something to link (I can't remember what.)

i rembember that Nintendo power show I think it was called, where the guy went into the games

Zelda always was a little lame for me. He always seemed to use his beam instead of the actual sword. DK was great, as was Amrio.

Anyone remember the old Sonic series? I freaking loved that show... I mean bad..... I wish I could find the Sonic movie, the one with metal... That movie was awesome, especially the fights between the two.

Was the old sonic series the one that took place in that one big forest. Then there was that sexy fox and the fat walrus? And sonics dad was a robot, and it was well drawn? I loved that series too :(

I never did use the beam technique in the zelda games. I had aquired them, I just was always either A: using a stronger, more efficient ranged attack B: always missing just a little bit of health, or most of all C: beating the hell out of them, having the time of my life, up close and personal like a real hero!

Actually, Resident Evil is one of the few game-based movies that actually were good.
Here are what every game-based movie has gotten on IMDB.

1993: Super Mario Brothers    3.6
1994: Double Dragon     3.0
1994: Street Fighter       3.1
1995: Mortal Kombat      5.1
1997: Mortal Kombat: Annihilation     3.0
1999: Wing Commander        3.7
2001: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within      6.5
2001: Tomb Raider        5.2
2002: Resident Evil        6.2
2003: Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life      5.2
2003: House of the Dead     2.2
2004: Alien Vs. Predator       5.5
2004: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children     9.3 (WOAH!!!)
2004: Resident Evil: Apocalypse       5.7
2005: Alone in the Dark      2.2

As you can see, the best three are FFVII:AC, FF:TSW and RE.

It's the official year of IMDB. +- 560 people have seen it and rated it. Those 560+- people have gaven it a 9.3. My thoughts, they downloaded the movie and used english subtitels if they couldn't download an english version.

Eh, Advent Children has its release date at 14th September 2005. In Japan. There's no ****ing way they could have seen it. America gets to see the movie around that time too, or later. Europe isn't confirmed.

Anyway, I do think the first Mortal Kombat deserves a higher rating. It was a decent movie, which was somewhat true to the games. At least more than most movies (*cough*StreetFighter*cough*).

And I don't understand why people thought AvP was lame. I liked it. Not the best movie, but it was good enough for me.

But the best Sonic ever was Sonic Underground! *gets hit by a brick* Kidding, kidding!

 EDIT:
STREET FIGHTER, everyone forgot about it (or I didn't saw), it wasn't an Anime, and had Blanka as oe of the 3 main charaters, and Blanka was Brazilian, what is good, and he was smart, what is good, but he looked like a monkey what REALLY ANNOY ME! XD! I'm playing with you. I can kinda tell what you mean about 2 being better than one. The story fit, BUT, the fighting was HORRIBLE. The first one's fighting looked like it came from an actual martial artist. The second one looked like it came from a video gamer who played too much MK. Johnny Cage dying is what upset me the most because he's my favorite character.

House of the Dead

I remember renting that movie, and watched it in my bed one night. By the end of the movie, I was about to take the DVD and take into my backyard with a shotgun like I do with all of the AOL CD's I get. That movie pissed me off so bad. It was made by mental retarded people. I don't see how a director can think that's good.

The Halo Movie, the chances of it becoming a movie is half and half.

Splinter Cell becoming a movie is a definite. The teaser trailer is in Chaos Theory for X-Box.
