Title: Compy problems

Well heres the scoop, my windows xp won't load. I can't use the repair function on it, and the only way for me to fix it would be to reformat the hard drive, which would cause me to loose lots of important info.

So would anyone know of a way to transfer the files to a safe place so I can reformat it in peace? Or how would I do this?

I always have bad luck with compies, in the past year, I've used my laptop, which died, then I used an old compy which took 20 hours of work just to get it running, and even then it didn't work very well, then I built a computer, it took me weeks to figure out how to fix the problems I was having with rm2k3 (the integrated gfx card wasn't configured right when I got it), then just yersturday I fixed the rest of the problems I had, and now it dosen't work at all. The computer gods must really have something against me :(

If you have another computer you could use, you could remove the hard drive, attach it as a second hard drive in the other computer, and copy the files that way.

Hmm, well my second compy is a laptop, so I can't use that hard drive, but I'm sure I can aquire one very cheaply somewhere.

Anyway, my hard drive is a SATA, most likely I'll be able to get a regular hard drive for the second one. So how would I go about hooking them up together and all that stuff?

lol if you get despret you can always use www.yousendit.com or use G mail and email the files to yourself. There's a way to use G mail like an hard drive, but I could never tell you how I just did it and Google disabled my account 3 ****ing months later -.-

XP Won't Load. Hmm.

Option 1: Transfer between partitions
If your hard drive is partitioned then you can simply move the files off your C Drive, then format only the C partition and reinstall your operating system there. Of course, this can only be done if you can open Windows Explorer, or can load directly to the command prompt instead of trying to load windows.

Option 2: Safe Mode with Networking
If you can load your computer in Safe Mode, try Networking your laptop with your desktop and transfer the files that way.

Option 3: Connect this hard drive as a slave to another.
Find a friend who is willing to help. And call them names if they refuse to help you.

Option 4: Buy another hard drive
If your files are really important, and you definately need to keep them then you'll just have to buy a new hard drive and install XP on there. Then you can use your old hard drive for storage in case something like this happens again. And you don't need no 120gig hard drive. Only graphics designers or developers really need that much space. A 20-40 gig should suffice, and their not that expensive (in comparison, at least).

Buy a hard drive enclosure and attach it to your laptob via USB or Firewire. It works.

Yeah, I can't get on my computer at all, safemode freezes as well, but it never really worked too well. Thats what happens when I put a laptop gateway windows back up disk into a multibrand budget computer :p.

Anyway my friend is letting me borrow a hard drive (which I sold him :p) for a day so I can x-fer the files.

Hopefully the actual files aren't corrupt like windows though, that would really suck. There were files that I spent a whole week on dial up downloading. Plus I have my rpg maker files which would take me a while to remake.
