Title: Mystic Legends - Symphony of the Goddess
Post by: Skie Fortress on October 19, 2005, 11:47:28 PM
This is my first project, I've been working on it for a year so far and it has undergone many revisions and updates overtime.

Story
Long ago, all the great Kingdoms of the earth clashed in a great and terrible war that shook the very core of the earth. there were three major kingdoms took place in this war. There was Vaneer, The aggressors, they started the war, intent on taking the other territories. Next was Lumina, the Kingdom of Mages and Priests, they entered the war, for the sole purpose of defending themselves. And Eltia, the neutral Kingdom that was driven away by Vaneer, but counter-attacked. Nearly all of mankind was destroyed in this war. All of the earth's resources were exausted and the land utterly wasted. A figure descended from the heavens. She glared down at the people before her before restoring the earth with a mere wave of her hand. when the people asked her name, she told them 'Goddess Guardia'. She then floated high above the earth and dissappeared. However witnesses say that they saw her unleash six blasts of light across the world. Many believe that was the 'Final Blessing of Guardia'.

In the present Lumina and Vaneer have been restored and the former Kingdom of Eltia have stressed limited contact with humans, althoguh they are free to move about their country. However Vaneer has been acting strangely, they seem to be preparing for war. You are Leon, a mercenary Working for the Hunter's Guild, A world reknowned Guild of mercenaries for hire. After returning from a mission you decide to head home to Lumina Castle Town for a break. When you arrive you run into your childhood friend, the Princess of Lumina, Eren. she asks you to do a job for her and that she will give you the details of your job the next day at the castle. Little did leon know that what starts out as a simple reconiassance mission will turn into so much more....

Characters

Leon
Age:18
Weapon: Broad Sword
Leon is a young mercenary, taking various jobs for a living, even if some of them aren't to his liking. He's generally pretty happy most of the time, so much in fact that some may believe that he's covering up his true feelings. He hates it when anyone makes any cracks about his skill with a sword, since it brings up bad past memories. Memories of a past where he wasn't able to protect...

Rod
Age:23
Weapon: Twin Swords
Rod, is a skilled mercenary. he has no qualms about what he does, as long as there's money involved. He's cold, calculating, and cunning when need be. He spends most of his free time thinking in silence away from civilization or giving Leon tips on how to get better with a sword( Actually insulting his skills).

Ellis
Age:14
Weapon: Spears/Staves
Ellis is a very young trainee from the Church of Guardia in the Lumina Kindom. She's very shy, doesn't believe in her abilities, and is slightly clumsy. You will meet her during a certain mission.

Mai
Age:17
Weapon: Dual Daggers/Kunai
Mai is a ninja nearing the completion of her training. Despite being very skilled, she is loud, annoying, and she has no problem with being mean. She also loves money and is very greedy.

Eren
Age:16
Weapon: Bladed Hoops/Chakrams
Eren, despite being the princess of Lumina, longs for the life of a normal person. She hate formalities with a passion and would do anything to get away from the royal life

Lucious
Age:29
Weapon: Rapiers/Longswords
Lucious is the skilled captain of the 'Silver Blades of Lumina', a unit of Lumina strongest knights. He is also Eren's personal bodyguard. He has a strong sense of duty and never bothers to question the orders he is given

Features
I suck at customizing so I just thought up different ways of using the default systems

Multiple attacking maneuvers -  All characters will have multiple ways of attacking the enemy instead of simply 'attack, magic, heal, repeat"

Overshieds - Some monsters and most bosses will have several layers of protection known as overshield. Overshields can act on their own and have properties that you'll have to deal with immediatly if you don't want to end up dead.

All characters have only 100 EP(MP) from the beginning , it will never go higher. spells and skills take away percentages of EP so choose your skills wisely

Your skills available on hand come and go with whatever you choose to equip. Mix and Match to find the skill combination you like the most.

Well, even if he/she hasn't introduced him/her self, the game does seem pretty good to me.

Your maps look to boxy, squarish, etc. Other then that, good maps.

You battle charas also have recoloring issues. I forgot which game they are taken from, but yeah, touch of the coloring and walla, they'll be much more appesible.

Good story, good sounding skill system. Look forward to more.

Edit- Idea, you could also put in combo systems. Like, the twin blades can use skills at the same time. It's doable.

Argh, I just typed up a load and the computer mucked up _veryangry_

BASICALLY, Your rpg as a whole is good, Story=cliche but good, Characters=varied and good, maps=good mostly.

Battlechars may need some work, they look a little... weird.

The only bad thing about the game is the interior of your houses. Not your strong point. Take a look at the attatchment (Shoddy but I can't be bothered to make a map just for you) and take some ideas from that. and use less of those wall pillars XP

I dunno Moosetroop, that interior map is too empty. Interiors should have minimal open spaces, with lots of junk everywhere. ;)

I agree with Meiscool that the maps are good, but a bit squary. Also, I couldn't beat the first boss. Maybe it's just me though. I like the way you customized the dbs, and the regular battles were of good difficulty. Overall, it's good.

Pros:

+ Good Animation
+ Fun Battles
+ Interesting Story
+ Able to Avoid Random Battles by dodging enemies

Cons:

- A few bad maps

I really enjoyed playing your game's demo, keep up the good work!

Sure, this was mainly a structure example, to show how walls can be drawn etc. *Shrugs* I don't want to tell peeps what to put into their maps. That's their choice.

First off, in general, all of these characters seem like Tales of Symphonia characters.
Leon, although I personally like that name, I find it too overused in RM games. Also he sounds moderatly like Sheena.
Rod sounds exactly like Kratos, with being a mercenary that cares only for money. The whole thing sounds like him. And, the last sentence is exactly how Kratos acts towards Lloyd.
Ellis is a Colette rip. 'Church of Gaurdia' = 'Church of Martel', the description sentence (the second) is a replica of Colette's personality.
Mai's the only one that DOESN'T sound like a ToS rip. Even though she's a ninja!
Eren uses Chakrams but sounds exactly like Zelos or Regal. Zelos wanted to leave his life, due to his status, and so did Regal.
Lucious is the other character that isn't really a ToS rip.

But the characters aren't all im gonna talk about. The maps I thought were very well done. Nicely made up, with a few bare spots. The 'Ice Cave' was really nice.
The CBS was good. I'm probably only saying that because I cbs to make a CBS! :o

So yeh, overall I thought it was really good. It was a demo right?

Umm.... now I understand what they ment when they said comparing a game on here to FF is bad. You can't compare a completed game that had hundreds of JAPANESE people working on it to a game one person is making, it's unruly.

I agree that they sound like ToS characters, and isn't it a coincidence both names deal with Symphony? Symphonia?

Oh, give me a break on the characters. You're reading way too into things. With the exception of Lucious and Eren, I created ALL of these characters WAAAAY before ToS ever even existed. I've had these characters since I was a kid, I used to and still do use these characters in an ongoing book of mine that I've been writing since 4th grade. So if anything Namco ripped off of me. But enough of that, I'll try and get those screens up another way.

Here does this work?

Yeah, well, I may be reading too much into things, it's just that yeah, i did find them similar. Anyway, it's just my opinion, Im not here to flame your game for sound-a-like characters---

---moving on--->

---Yeah, those screeenies look nice. Especially the first three map screenies. Did you do this on XP? The graphics look like it. And if you did do it on XP I have to commend you for putting the side-battle in. But it does look like 2K3. Maybe it's just the small pictures...

Nice maps, and good use of pictures ^^

But the rudra map (the 4th one) doesnt seem to fit...
Also, the name "demon flame hit" doesnt seem to be too gripping...try something like, Demon Flame Slash.

Or Demonic Flair Shot.

Nice screens, I don't really think that the character goes with the map style, but that's just my opinion. Lookin good :D

I think It's about time I updated the character roster with the support members

Renai
Age: 25
Weapon: Rapier/Passive Arts/ Universe and Time Blade Arts
Renai is a wandering priest. Nothing is known about him. According to gossip, they say he's on mission. The details are vague, but from the cryptic comments he makes it is assumed that he has some sort of association with Magdelina. If you try hard enough, he may just join you...

Naru
Age: 13
Weapon: Kodachi/Ki techniques/ Various mid level Ether Arts
A ninja in training. A pupil. A mere genin. Naru comes from the same village as Mai. She looks up to Mai as a big sister and hopes to be like her one day. She's not the most skilled ninja and she knows it. She's always trying hard to live up to people's expectations. She'll work with you at a certain point in the story.

Fiena
Age: 18
Weapon: Dagger, but for some reason she doesn't use it, choosing to kick instead, and Nemesis Arts
Fiena is...an aqaintence of Leon's. In fact they live in the same house. No, it's not like that. She's quiet, but by no means shy. She's mean and calculating whenever she does say something. And she ALWAYs get's her way(Just ask Leon, he tell you). Her fighting style is comepletely the EXACT opposite of her personality, Upbeat, bouncy, and relatively cheerful. In battle she WIELDS a dagger, but Leon, or anyone else for that matter, has never seen her actually use it...

Alright update time. First of all some new DBS features

Ether Moderation System - What this feature does is that when a character expends all 100 points of their Ethereal Power(EP) They will get tired and fall into a state called 'Drained' In this condition, the character will not be able to act for a few turns and they will regain a small amount of EP back to start them off again. I think that this will regulate the amount of EP used and so that it isn't simply spammed and reloaded over and over again.

Ether Guard - What this does basically is return 5 EP to the defending character. You may want to defend if you see that you're about to become 'Drained' and regain some EP instead of stupidly choosing to use that Tech and become 'Drained'

And finally some screens
