Title: ~What happened to the good ol...
Post by: Midnight9795 on October 23, 2005, 05:24:33 AM
fashion knight saving the princess from the dragon games..? All these new games are getting kind've...boring, it's like everyone's so worried about making their games look prettier then other ppl's games that they forget all about the story of the game. I wonder if there's anyone whose gonna actually make a game with a good story, I mean be original by being unoriginal. I am alone in this feeling? I mean isn't there anyone whose tired of playing a game with one or two words though out the entire game..? Or are ya'll fine with it..?

Nah dude I strongly disagree with you.
My reason being is that we all "Evolved" Sorta into making much more iteresting things such as eye-catching scenes as well as creativity. We are tired of seeing the same ol' thing of a knight saving a princess, then fighting some big ugly guy that dies in 3 hits. Yeah Not all games suck or are boring, look at Home made RPG games such as A Blurred line, or final falacy or the way. They were all great games and they ditched the traditional saving the princess and when you win get a kiss and taht's it game.  It's all about creativity and how you can tell your story in your own game!

PS: Actually modern games have more than 2 words in them, trust me on that one.

It's true, these days people are pumping out games with awesoma powa! graphics and forgetting story all together. I haven't bought a game since Metroid Prime 2! And before that, San Andreas.

While SA has a good story, MP2 has gameplay! As well!

I´ve said that before...games nowadays suck big time...Where are the world maps? The charismatic characters? the stories that make you feel like your involved in it, that makes you miss the characters and stuff?

I like PS1 better than PS2. Great graphics suck, cool story rules.

Next time someone dies, I want to feel for them. Not say "LOL DIED"

That's exactly why the RPG Maker community exists. Ordinary people say "Well, I can make a better game than that!", but since they can't hard-code it, they turn to RM.

People have been telling the "classic" stories for hundreds or thousands of years, and all of a sudden, we "evolve" and ditch them in the last ten years or so? Uh huh. I'm not buying it.

Fact is, realistic games may be more lifelike, but let's face it... reality is pretty boring when compared with the classic archetypical characters. I'd much rather see an epic story about a paladin knight than some US military soldier.

He called me a dude ;.; I was exaggerating. I dun mean just saving the princess type stuff, what I meant was that these days nones really considering the story as an important factor to making a game. I mean, shooting aliens and stuff is all good but it gets boring after awhile. What would you perfer...a good story with some ok graphics..? Or a game with some kickasstic graphics and some small plot..?

I've already pretty much ditched the amazing graphics in favour of emotion and story. I totally understand. I'm sick of seeing people produce an amazingly good game, with an involving plot, and characters you come to love, and for some arsehole to say "Needs more action".

Good graphics + Good plot = Good game.

Bad graphics + Good plot = Good game.

Good graphics + Bad plot = Bad game.

Bad graphics + Bad plot = Please don't talk to me.

To anyone who says that a game has to have lots of action to make it good, allow me to shake you warmly by the windpipe in commendation.

I am a hallow's eve present, nothing more...  _pumpkin_

*ahem*

This is why i want to make (and do make) games myself, alot of new "realistic" games just plain suck. Lol, as long as people conform to what they are given, they'll get what is given to them. :yell:

What are you people complaining? There are games with good stoylines, you just need to find them. Like every old game has a great story. As I remember, most of the old games don't even have a story.

They concentrated more on the plot those days because that's all they had. Remember the Nintendo Entertainment System? 8 Bit! WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH 8 BIT? NOTHING! SO GET STARTED ON A STORY, MAYBE NOONE WILL NOTICE.

Oh yeah, sure. Great stories like Mario and Kirby. Or maybe Sonic, he had an mind-blowing story. Only few games I can remember of those old days are Metal Gear and Zelda. The others where mindless fighting/stuff.
If you all keep looking at the past and be so damn ignorant you'll never find good games.
Did they have Metal Gear Solid in the old day? NO.
Final Fantasy IX? NO?
Resident Evil? NO?
Tenchu? NO?

Oh right. Story, and addictive gameplay. Cause graphics were nothing.
Can't forget the addictive gameplay.

Also, after disk 2 FFIX went down hill. How was that comparable with Metal Gear Solid?

Did I understand you correctly? They had a movie with real people who styled their hair in the huge, spikey, odd-colored, unrealistic fashions of anime?

If by oldies, you mean SNES games, then you need to go jump off a cliff. Anyway, according to those who have read my whole story typed out, it is good, and people also think it 'looks' good as well. Cool, guess I'm making a good game! ^_^
