Title: CONTESTS
Post by: Razor on October 27, 2005, 11:00:10 PM
The question is, if we start having contests again, what would they be about?
And will you join them?
Ok, that's two questions.

Personally, I'd like charas animations and comics as two contests.

Come on! We need to get back into the spirit!

A new avatar for MrMister contest!
Title:
Post by: Dashman on October 28, 2005, 03:02:15 AM
animations and comics! YAY! I would enter, as long as:
(Comics)
No need to be hand drawed
Sprites can be used(who remembers my Link/ness comic?)

(Animations)
Simple ones are accepted

I dunno other contests, but I like the idea. And the new avatart thingy for MrMister contest, maybe...

Yeah i like making sprite animation.  That would be interesting to see other peoples sprite animation that are char sized.
Title:
Post by: Razor on October 28, 2005, 05:47:01 AM
well that's like 3 people and 3 contests. But we want community spirit! Like, 10 people or something! People like Red Giant and Warxe and GhostClown and others!
Title:
Post by: Drace on October 28, 2005, 09:43:58 AM
I got no ideas at the moment. But if I feel like I could enter it, I will.
Title:
Post by: Robotam on October 28, 2005, 01:41:36 PM
But there's barely any contests I can take place in!
Go for whatever contests, I'll just stand hear and watch.

COMICS
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on October 28, 2005, 02:57:53 PM
How about a spriting competition, but in three different styles? Say, one sprite in Street Fighter style, one in Megaman style, and one in something else, you know.

Iron Spriter Competition? :D
Title:
Post by: WarxePB on October 28, 2005, 03:46:10 PM
Comics might work. We already had a spriting competition, and I don't know about sprite animations.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on October 28, 2005, 03:59:57 PM
But not everyone has the right software to do comics. And it makes me wonder whether an average comic someone has done in Flash will be favoured over a good one in MS Paint, simply because of the quality which has nothing to do with the overall thing, but the product used.

So basically, "Flash > Everything, no matter how good the comic is" type favouritism will set in.

Post by: SaiKar on October 28, 2005, 07:04:56 PM
If there's significant interest in anything I'll sanction an official Charas contest and come up with some rules. So start agreeing on what you want.  :p

How about Fire Emblem Style? I really like that one.

And here are my old comics:

And one of my old gif animations:

(I was learning how to use the program, so it's simple)

Saddly, I ran out of ideas. Anyways, I would try to participate on anything.

How about a comic contest, but we judge it on the joke?
Title:
Post by: Razor on October 29, 2005, 05:25:51 AM
Exactly. Base it on the humour. Hell, Jesus could make an animation with his Godlike powers but if Warxe's is funnier, he wins.
Title:
Post by: Dashman on October 29, 2005, 05:36:10 AM
The joke, if it's a funny comic contest, would be the important thing. After all, I don't judge a game for the graphics either. I prefer Super Mario Bros than Mario Sunshine. It's not the same saving the princes from a fire breathing dragon-dinosaur-turtle than, what's that? Ink...
Title:
Post by: blaze_shinigami on October 29, 2005, 05:44:20 AM
why do they have to be humor comics... why not action?
i'd be into a comic contest, but the contest shouldn't be just humor
Title:
Post by: shadus on October 29, 2005, 05:59:09 AM
I was thinking of makeing a forum game where some posts a Sprite comic that has to do with the last one. They could use char sets or if they had a sprite or whatever. The comic whould have to be for pannles long.
Title:
Post by: Razor on October 29, 2005, 06:03:55 AM
Well I don't know. Let's just say best comic. Whether the people prefer punchlines or really cool action things is up to them.

How does that sound?
Title:
Post by: shadus on October 29, 2005, 06:09:23 AM
One word,"Good."

Ive read alot of Sprite Comics and woun't mind being a juage if you'd like.

Shadus try putting a space after a dot.
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on October 29, 2005, 11:38:42 AM
We could have an award for funniest comic, and an award for best drawn comic, etc.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on October 29, 2005, 02:28:38 PM
Okay, so comics it is.
Title:
Post by: Dashman on October 29, 2005, 05:21:30 PM
Comics contests are ok. But I would not like to see a "Best comic contest" as for some people would prefer comedy, but others action.  Maybe different gender of comics, as mentioned before. Personally, I preffer comedy, but action is not bad either. Or maybe awards to "best humorous comic", "best action comic", etc..
Title:
Post by: Razor on October 30, 2005, 09:32:47 AM
Like I said, the people vote for what appeals to them the most.

OK people, so we have a contest now. We will consult this thread in the future, after this current contest is over.

Speaking of contests, I won't be doing much for over a month. School Exams!
Title:
Post by: Ryos4 on October 30, 2005, 10:57:28 AM
So is it gonna only cg comic or can i make a hand drawn one.

And if so does it have to be original characters or could you make like a mini fan comic.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on October 30, 2005, 02:36:03 PM
Here's roughly what I'm thinking of right now:

* some sort of size requirement (only to make sure people don't go totally overboard and make like 300 panels)
* probably two weeks to submit entries from when I start it
* hand drawn or computer done, your choice.
* original characters or Charas characters only. You can only 1 character from a video game or some other media in your comic. This is a Charas contest.
* you can submit your comic as either "action" or "humor".

Judging criteria:

* Quality of the art. This doesn't mean it needs to be super fancy. Simple art can be quality if it's drawn well.
* Origionality of concept. Try to think of your own situations and jokes instead of stealing the easy ones.
* For humor comics: how good the joke is.
* For action comics: how cool the action is.
* Overall presentation: name, character design, etc.

Timeline:

Contest begins
* Judges can sign up
* Entries can be received
Two weeks after contest begins, no more entries or judges will be accepted and the judging begins.
* The judges will vote on their favorites in both action and humor categories and narrow it down to four comics, two humor, two action.
* The public will vote on both an action and a humor comic.
After some time (5 days?) all the votes are tallied. The winners get medals and maybe some cool prize. The runners-up also get medals but probably no prizes.

Anyone, regardless of time on Charas, can enter.
Judges can enter their own comics.
No one, including judges, can vote for themselves.

Sound good?
Title:
Post by: Razor on October 30, 2005, 09:17:54 PM
It does now, that I've got a comic in mind!

But don't start it too soon

This week: Must do English stuff
Next week: Three exams
Third week: Finish art stuff
Last week: More art things!
Fifth week: No more school, so I [STRIKE]wet myself[/STRIKE] celebrate.
Title:
Post by: Drace on October 30, 2005, 10:27:15 PM
Yes, sounds good.
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on October 30, 2005, 11:45:22 PM
I would say 2 catergories: Hand drawn and sprite comics. Then in ahnd drawn there could be best drawn and funniest. In sprites it could be best quality and best punchline. Just throwing stuff out.
Title:
Post by: blaze_shinigami on October 31, 2005, 11:33:14 PM
whoawhoo... this must had been when the site went down... oh well. I don't think that's enough catergories for hand drawn. best drawn could have like a guy picking up a cup. it could look so great, but!! who gives a damn. a comic contest would need genres... like comedy and action and macabre/horror, fan-comics...we might need a contestant/spectator/judge poll to figure it out.

or one could base the contests results on art dundamentals... yuck.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on November 01, 2005, 01:55:47 AM
I really don't want to have a bazillion categories because I don't really imagine more than a few people will enter. I'd rather have a big run-off with more people than a bunch of small categories with two (or one... or none) people in them.
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 01, 2005, 08:05:31 AM
Yeah. We also need a large sign up sheet, and also have emails supplied so we can BOTHER PEOPLE PERSISTANTLY DAYS BEFORE THE INEVITABLE DEADLINE.
Title:

Erm, kick? All my stuff is done, so I'm ready.
Come on lads and ladettes (or lasses, as they're more commonly known) we've got to get back in the spirit! The spirit [STRIKE]of Christmas[/STRIKE] of winning!

Erm...ok, a Charas PUB comic contest would be cool, featuring the admins, mods and important people in charas. I couldnt enter, but looking at the entrys would be cool
Title:

I say we have a contest to create like...a charas mascot....Like with a pencil. (Or you can sprite one)

Title:

a mascot for charas? Cool. If I could draw well, I could do a rpg popular monster as a mascot, like a slime or chocobo...

I think that there should just be like basic resource contests. They could be redone every week. The contest entry time could be from MOnday-Friday. Each week can be something different like MIDI's, Chipsets, Charset, etc. It could be all origanls. But what could be prizes?
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 24, 2005, 03:42:56 AM
Ok, so, let's get happenin'
Who actually would want to join a COMICS CONTEST OF SORTS?
Title:
Post by: Seth Mitchell on November 24, 2005, 04:29:03 AM
I would do a comic contest.
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 24, 2005, 04:33:31 AM

I'm going to bother all of you. Or make a new thread.
Title:

What happens if you win a comic contest? And also who will judge? Who's going to come up with all of this? Who will make the rules? Who is the organize? Is it Razor?
Title:
Post by: Drace on November 24, 2005, 05:53:50 AM
If I have some spare time I'll enter. But no "Charas characters/events" restrictions.
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 24, 2005, 06:20:48 AM

I still challenge your underling statement!
Title:

if its hand drawn I'm in. Just one question... how many pages? I plan to do something like an action/drama kinda thang.
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 27, 2005, 09:27:36 AM
I think the plan is short amusing comics, man. Like The Adventures of Red or what not.
Title:
Post by: Drace on November 27, 2005, 11:51:17 AM
Something like ranging from Red's comics to Sexy Losers.
Title:
Post by: Weregnome on November 27, 2005, 11:56:09 AM
so it has to be charas related?

In case someone forgot that.
Ok, so, we have our contestants. If any more want to join in they can. What about judges? I'm thinking Warxe, if he doesn't want to be an entrant, and Sai'Kar, you'd be good too. You're knowledgable in the field of all things contestical.
Title:
Post by: Dashman on November 28, 2005, 12:06:27 AM
actually, I did not noticed that. Anyways, I'm wondering... how long can comics be? Is 6 panels all right?
Title:

Well Razor, I don't wanna ruin it but I can't enter this week. Lots of exams and other school stuff.
Title:
Post by: Razor on November 28, 2005, 12:33:45 PM
Right, right. I'm half waiting out for Sai's word anyway.
Honestly, I don't have an idea for a comic. Screwed get?
Title:
Post by: Drace on November 28, 2005, 02:41:40 PM
Ding ding ding! Idea!

I don't have any time to make one, but enough ideas. And Razor has time, but no ideas. How about people could pair up? I mean, a good idea is halve the trouble and a good look too.
Title:
Post by: Dashman on November 28, 2005, 11:11:11 PM
would that answer the question "how many fools are needed to make a comic?". Jk, but... 2 persons to make a comic? In a part, it can be good, for different reasons, as the mentioned before. Anyways, I hope that it is optional. I prefer to work alone.
Title:
Post by: Seth Mitchell on December 03, 2005, 06:37:47 AM
But still, what happens when you win, is it like "Ok, you won have a nice day" or what?
Title:
Post by: blaze_shinigami on December 05, 2005, 01:35:06 AM
pair's should be ok, because writer's and artists pair up all the time.
I wouldn't know about a prize... I can't give anyone anything anyone would want.

I'm not entering anything. I won't win.  plus my art seems to be invisible...

I Do however, want to judge. I'd like to judge action more than the comedy.
