Title: Grandy's Sprites and General Art

This is the 6th and last time I'll try to post this. First, its the 404 error everytime I try to post, then its the attchment, then 403 and that friggin' teddy bear, now its the attachment again, and one time my computer just froze up!


 Anyway, here it is, sorry for making a new thread, but I can't find the old one.

 I'm trying to change a little Grandy's look, as for start, green eye are good, but I can't make sprites with them without making he look like possessed by a evil... green-eyed... demon thing. So from now on I'll keep his eyes black, at least in sprites.

 So, someone from other forum pointed out that the head looks good, but the body is just a recolor.

 ...he's right *shame*

 so I'm doing some small changes.

 (sorry about the huge blank space, but Photoshop decided to hate me, and that's the only way to save as a PNG)

 Frankly saying, I don't see many changes myself, but a guy in another forum suggested to change small things, so I added:
 -Upper body armor
 -Pants
 -Smaller boots
 -A scarf...looking...thing...in his right leg.
 -Though you don't see, there's no logo in his back anymore. (I won't use the default one)

The new style is more realistic, but the only style has a more... cartoony feel.

I personally like the feel of the cartoon ones, your old ones, more.

 There's two versions of Grandy, actually. The more medieval one has boots, the scarf-belt and high boots, that right now is the other version, which is just like the medieval, but doesn't wear al that because I'M TOO LAZY TO SPRITE ALL THAT.

 Let's pretend that made sense, okay?

 Seriously, the scarf-belt looked ridiculous when I made it.

 You mean it? For me it was exact the opposite. In the last-but-disappear frame there's still to much of his body which just cease existing. I think I'll make another frame to fix that.

He's had a lot of practise.

The belt looks better on the new one. Also, do I notice another disappearing frame on the new animation, or is that just my mind playing tricks on me?

The disappearing effect is great, but there's something about the dust I don't like. I think it's because it stays still for a long time after he has fully vanished (long time= two microseconds).

 Too bad, because I'm placing Grandy in ahiatus right now until I make some sprites of my other character. =D



 Those of you who may pay attention to my posts may recognize him as Devon, and there's more! Now I atually thought for a last name for him! He's Devon Firefly. "Firefly" being given to him by himself.

 What was that? Oh, no, his name was not a reference to some 'popular' show which I never heard about until White told me, but which I still never saw or heard again. His name is just a sum of his two powers. Guess which they are?

 See those things in his arms? They're gauntlets with teeny holes, microscopic even, which release in the atmosphere a HIGLY FLAMABLE gas.

 He controls the gauntlets by applying pression inside them with his arms. And can change the direction and even the pressure in which the gas is liberated. The gas combusts by just touching the atmosphere, so, ya, instant fire.

 Now about the sprite. I'm actualy proud of ow it ended up looking.
 One of the hardest things while trying to sprite Devon is his face, see, there's three things about his face:

 1 - His eyes are aways wide open, and he seems scared at all times. His eyes are also aways partially hidden below his hair.
 2 - He is aways grinning. Not smiling, grinning.
 3 - He is supposed to look like a psycho.

 I never really thought about his hair, and originally he wore shorts and nothing above the waist, but I think this is better.

 Also, his pose is awkward, yes. Then again, he is an awkward person.

 Fun stuff to know:
  He is a very musical character! Look:
 - His powers and background were based in the lyrics of "Fire in The Sky" by Ozzy Ousborne
 - His voice (at least how I portrait it) is just like the high-pinched guy in DDR's S.M.O.K.E.
 - A great number of his attacks were tought while hearing various clips, which have no relaction with the attack itself other that I think better when I'm hearing music.


 Miscellaneous:
 -His lucky number is 4
 -If he ever were in a band, he'd most likelly be the guitarrist (c'mon now, look at him, he just screams guitarrist)
 -There is another metal plate in his back, below his clothes, the holes in that one are much bigger, and can be fired to make fake wings which resamble that of a dragonfly, those are huge wings that give him stability while flying, but do not lift him off ground, a third smaller hole in his plate works as an jetpack and this one is the one which lifts him from the ground. The fire in this one can't be seen, though.
 - His clothes are fireproof.

The way you sell your sprites these days makes it sound like they're the best thing since sliced mammoth, which makes it harder to like them, believe it or not.


It is pretty good though. His arms are a little weird.

More random drawings, and these one I just found out from my old stache, so they might be worse then my previous ones. I still don't have a scanner, so please overlook the fuzzyness on these.



 For starters, this is Devon's original concept, lest for the stubby arm, which was my faulty drawing. Notice he already had the eyes and the grin, and that's how I know he was Devon, because quite frankly I had a few problems figuring out who was this guy I drew so long ago.



 This is the only recent drawing I made, it's Devon as well, but this time the final version. Not much to say here, carrying on.

U should like ink the stuff before u scan it.  Pencil usually comes out really light and harder to see.

 Thanks for the tip, however is not that hard to see the pencil, and if I had an acutal scanner it would come out just fine.


 At any rate, everybody, I have decided that I really HATE these sprites:



 Why is that? They are actually good sprites, and I'm proud of thme, yes, however after analizing them again and again I came to realize they are not sprites of Grandy!

 Sure, it's someone who dresses alike Grandy, but most definately not him.

 First - He's way too buffed. Grandy has no muscles.
 Second - He's not slim enough.
 Thirth - He looks way too serious.
 Fourth - His hair came out completaly wrong. It should be pointy, POINTY I SAY!

 Beetween other things.

 So I decided to change the sprites base, and found out that, even though it's an awesome style, Jump Super Star sprites just don't fit Grandy. So I searched for a new sprite.

 I went to the highest mountains to the deepest waters of the internet, searching for the perfect base, and eventually found one that, if not perfect, at least pretty damn close.

 And so there we have: Grandy version 3.5 or something, I really stoped counting.



 The base used is from It's a Wonderful World, which was made by the same guys who made KH, and was ripped by Menos_Grante, and I'm saying who ripped it because I'm in a good mood today.

 People might also noticed I decided to get rid of the medieval boots for good, for one it's because it's hard to sprite them, secondly because sneakers just fit Grandy better. The hair is also a little diferent but that's just because I decided to leave it that way rather than using my no-good hair skills to make it even less alike I wanted it.
