I was just wondering if anyone here has ever looked into the morrowind construction set. I was always planning on buying morrowind for the PC, but I never got around to it, then about two weeks ago I learned that it came with this constuction set thingy, I bought it the next day :)
Anyway, the construction set is a drag and drop based editor that alows you to do pretty much about anything with morrowind, plus it has a built in scripting system as well.
I haven't looked at the constuction set too much yet because I want to finish the game before toying with it too much, but by the looks of it, you could actually make completely original games with it, with the morrowind defult graphics like the rtp set in rpg maker. Its a lot of work, but it could be used to make 3d games.
Has anyone else ever used the construction set?

???
!!!!
It comes with a level editor? Sweet!
-
Yeah I didn't know it came with one either. But it seems more powerfull than any other level editor I've seen.
I've looked around and found well over 3000 mods already made for the game. Rightn now I'm working on a mod of my own that will basically transform the world of morrowind into the world of my RP site. It's not going to take nearly as long to make as a game would since I'm not starting from scratch, and I already have a lot of people willing to help me, so its going to be great.
I was just suprised that I never saw anyone else mention the construction set on this site yet because of its power as an rpg maker.
Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the construction set is only for the PC version of Morrowind, you can't use it for the XBox version unless you have a modchip :/

I've done a bit with the editor, though I'm not too good.

The editor for Morrowind is horrible. It could at least incorperate a snap-into-place feature, but no. Getting anything to not look like a piece of crap requires lots of patience.
Plus, you can't just make things from scratch. If you want anything to not look like Morrowind, you need to 1.Know how to design 3d models and have them in a specific format (forget the program), 2.Convert all models and textures into Morrowind format, and 3.Make sure they are compatible, especially if they are character models.
Hardly anything the normal RPG Maker kid would want to tackle.

Well, Im not the normal RPG kid, Im willing to do it. It'll get me 100% in CADD Drafting.

Welcome to the paradise of creating a 3d game. You need to know how to convert ANY model and texture into different files, depending on what kind of rendering engine you are using, or if you decide to switch the rendering engine from, say the Quake 3 engine to an engine you made yourself. Not so difficult if you get used to it.

I know what you mean, I tried adding a few items to the game, and they were all suspended in air, but after a bit of tweaking, I got them correctly placed on the ground. If you're really serious about making a game with this, you should have a lot of patience anyway.

Thats because the construction set wasn't originally designed for people to import their own graphics. But as long as it's in the right format, its no big deal. Its like importing graphics into rm2k3, you have to convert the images you make to 256 colors. With the right programs it's a piece of cake.
Besides, morrowind comes with enough graphics to make a complete game, and if theres something you really want, theres probably a mod for it already made. I like dragons a lot, and with a little bit of searching, I found a sweet dragon race to play as.
I know the construction set is by no means perfect, but I haven't found any other 3d game engine that's as simple to use (excluding rpg maker for the ps2).

Which sucked.

Try putting together two hallway pieces perfectly and get back to me.

I guess patience isn't one of your things Osmose. I might feel the same way except that Morrowind might be the best place for me to tell my story (I'm REALLY getting tired of programming my RPG).
Aside from graphics, is it possible to record/embed your own voice-overs for speech?

There is a snap-into-place feature, mind you. Now I'd definetley not call my work gold, but it defientley wasn't crap, and it didn't require too much patience on my part...

I believe it lets you add in audio... not exactly sure, though.
And it's not a patience issue as much as a confusion issue. Even setting the values manually has never yielded me good results.
-
Yeah you can add audio and voices. I'm pretty sure theres a section for the voices in the dialouge area.
The editor is confusing, I wantn't to test out these spells I downloaded that let you use a shape shifting ability, however in order for the npc to sell them to you had to be a certain rank in the mage guild (which I'm not part of). I tried building an npc that would sell me the spells, but when I dragged the spell to the spells list on the npc it wouldn't add it :( I could add spells to the other npc just fine, but it wouldn't work on mine. What I ended up doing is just taking the guild requirment off. The editor doesn't come with a decent readme either. Once you get used to it though, its pretty easy.

Ah, I follow. Logically it should work, but put into practice the results are way off. :|

ONE WORD: USE TUTORIALS. LOOK THEM UP. I GUESS THIS IS A BIT MORE THAN ONE WORD.

I'm gonna be stubborn and say no to CAPSman. ;)

15 words to be exact :)
I looked at two tutorials already, and both weren't of any help. Besides, I didn't think it'd take that long to figure out how to give npcs spells to sell :p

I remember having troubles with NPCs, but there's a few things you need to do to them before you can enable some features. I can't remember what, buyt I definately remember having the same troubles.
-
I have the Construction Set as well. How do you get NPCs to follow you? I know you click on follow, but it asks to type in who to follow, and I don't know what to type in for the hero.

Player; I'm almost certain.

i attempted to remake the entire system.
boy o boy.... that wasnt ruby scripting.
