Get Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, it was my favorite RPG on the PS2.

I'd at least play through Kingdom Hearts before selling it. I never played it, but if you bought it, you might as well play through the whole thing, it may get better.

It's a pretty good game. The battles aren't turn-based. Instead, your party and the enemies move around the battlefield and fight in real-time. You control one character while the AI controls the other two. I had a lot of fun with the game, but I like Star Ocean 2 a lot better.

As for the story, I won't try to ruin much... but basically you are in a spaceship that gets attacked by enemy forces, and they kidnap your parents and you end up stranded on a strange planet. Sounds bad, but it picks up a bit. Not an amazing story, but it's not bad.

Heres a description of the game from IGN

For four hundred peaceful years, humans and aliens have co-existed thanks to the influence of the Pangalactic Federation until one day without warning; the planet Hyda IV is attacked by an unknown superpower. Vacationing college student Fayt Leingod and best friend Sophia Esteed are soon forced into a series of events that sends them on a quest to save their loved ones and solve the mystery of who attacked them and why. Boasting more than 80-hours of gameplay and a highly strategic real-time battle system, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is known best as one of the first RPGs ever announced for the PlayStation 2. And as an added bonus for American gamers, Star Ocean 3 contains all the same content and goodies previously available in the Japanese-only Director's Cut version.

Anyway, I thought the game was really good. The story was highly unpredictable and had some MAJOR plot twists. And even though it has a futuristic time setting, about half the game occurs in a medival setting. The battle system is by far my favorite rpg battle system with real time fighting. The graphics are really good. The voice actors actually did a good job.

The only things I didn't like about it was the last boss and there was this event that dealt with the main character, but being as big as it was, I don't think they tied it to the end of the game well enough.

Anyway, I give the game a 9/10 :)

The battle system sounds like KH for what I played. In KH The other party members aren't much of a help becuase they die a lot.How are the Party members in star ocean?

Kingdom hearts was an alright game, I liked it. But screw these little kids games, GET MANHUNT! by rockstar, pretty good game, or Killzone, it's like a war game, it's pretty good.

Well at frist I was going to get Navy Seals 2 but then I saw KH and I've heard that it was one of the better games on the PS2.So I got that.

They're actually pretty good, you can set up their battle stratagies, their formation, and what moves they use. You can also swich back and forth between characters really fast and change their stratagies on the fly.

I donīt understand why you say the story in KH is dum...I think itīs great.

But at least play through KH before you sell it.

And yes Star Ocean(3) til the end of time is a good game, but it got kinda wierd after some special events...

And for other rpgs...I see alot of good onces at game stores but i can never remember the name... Just go there and look around.

It sucks! Donīt buy it! It has an excelent battle system and marvelous graphics, but the storyline s.u.c.k.s! Buy Radiata Stories, Suikoden 3, Shadow Hearts, Wild Arms 3, Front Mission 4...leave Star Ocean for when youīre bored and has no other RPG to play. OR buy PS1 Star Ocean: The 2nd Story and that one rules all...

IT's three to one on star ocean.

LOTR: The Third Age is also a nice RPG.
For action I suggest: Shadow of Rome, Killzone, Red Dead Revolver, God of War and Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.

Yeah, I've played pretty much every RPG I could get my hands on, I still vote for SO3. If they went with it the way you thought it would go after the events on planet Styx, it probably would have been better, but who knows. But they took it a way that no game has really gone before, and it was nice to see something really original. I guess you'll like the story or hate it depending on one twist, but it'll totally ruin the game if anyone says what it is (please don't!). But I think the battle system as well as other aspects of the game will still make finishing the game worth while if you don't like the twist.

I was just looking around today and there were a few new rpg games that might be good for the ps2, shining force neo and suikoden tactics. They'll have tactical battle systems though instead of side view ones, but if you like tactical battle systems, I suggest taking a look at them. Both are new though so they're gonna cost you $40 or $50. Good thing about SO3 is that you can buy it new for $15 or $20 :)

Star Ocean Til the End of Time is good, I stopped playing really early, though.

BEST RPG ON PS2 EVER!!!! --------> WILD ARMS 3 <---------

It's a western, it's got turnbased fighting but it still really kicks ***.
BUY IT.

Two games I'm getting soon are Shadow of the Colossus and Trapt.

Trapt is a sequel in the 'Deception' series, where to come up with creative ways for people to die by setting up kickass traps, like giant swinging blades and rocks that roll down stairs. You can develop new traps by combining them with elements and timers and stuff. You can also use them with the environment, like rocketting a guard into an iron maiden.

I shouldn't have to explain Shadow of the Colossus.. I guess it's not an RPG anyways..

Post by: FFL2and3rocks on November 12, 2005, 06:16:23 PM
I'm not a big fan of the story of either Kingdom Hearts or Star Ocean 3, but I still like both of them because of the gameplay, which I think is much more important than story. I'd rather have good gameplay and crappy story than a good story and crappy gameplay.

I've never played Star Ocean before, but's it's a pretty popular series of games and you probably won't be disappointed(sp?) with it.

If I were to recommend a PS2 RPG, I'd probably say Disgaea. It's a strategy/tactics RPG, but it's probably the best of that type around. The problem is, it can be a little difficult to get a copy of.
It's got a good, comedic storyline and an immense amount of character building. I've played one file for about 190 hours and have a character at level 6500.

Anyway, goodluck finding a good game to play! :)

you want agreat RPG, get XENOGEARS. Its better than any RPG on PS1 that is not FF.....It is totally better than Xenosaga...and it has awesome graphics for a PS1 game

Yeah, I doubt you could get much from selling KH, your best bet would be to try and trade it in a used game store, but you'll probably have a hard time with that as well since KH is a very common game.

Yeah Xenogears is a good game, but your gonna have a really hard time finding any good rpgs from the PSX (besides FF games, you can find them anywhere).

EDIT: 900th post :D

Don't even get me STARTED on Xenogears!

Okay okay, see, there is this one part of the game really late when the main characters have to attack this battlestation, see? The thing has a really big laser gun that can cut through anything and recharges in, like, less than a second. So the heroes have a meeting to talk about how they're going to fight this thing. There's about fifteen minutes of technical talk, and they hype it all up, making it sound like one heck of a fight, and I got really interested in seeing what was going to happen.

And then the fight sequence. A completely blurry black and white "old movie-style" ten second clip of the battle..

I never did beat the game. I didn't even bother saving. I just turned it off and walked away and never came back to that overhyped piece of trash. Maybe if the last half of the game was more than a character sitting in a chair talking about stuff it would have been awesome. UGH.
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on November 13, 2005, 05:09:31 AM
Wow, I never knew a simple 10 second movie could ruin a whole game so easily :p

I never finished the game either, I burned it on my computer from a friend, but then my computer crashed and my friend moved away :( I wasn't too far, but still..
Title:
Post by: Drace on November 13, 2005, 10:01:27 AM
The Thing, also a good game and it has become very cheap(only 10 bucks).

But what's this with all this trading games in?
Bah! You people make me sick! Trading in a game is like trading in your child. Don't ****ing do it.

I remember way back when, the Christmas or whatever I recieved my SNES. With it came some racing game. It really sucked. So I traded it in for a Super Mario All-Stars cartridge, it had no book or box. But I soon became aware that it was in fact the best choice I have ever made in my entire life. Quite obvious that I have lived a life with little to no choices. My second best choice in my entire life was what I should have had for breakfast on June the 3rd, 2002.

Oh no, C'mon Sai, now youīre forcing it! After FF7 this really puts your RPG knowledge in question! It is unanimous that Xenogears is one of the bestest RPGs ever. Maybe they could have done somethig better in the 2nd CD, but the whole game kicks @ss! Marvelous battle system, awesome graphics, thrilling and perfect story, a amazing main character, and I canīt forget: the best soundtrack ever!
Title:
Post by: Osmose on November 13, 2005, 01:21:42 PM
It's not unanimous. Sai disagrees. :P

Yeah, Xenogears was REALLY LONG. Now, if they had kept it like it was in the first disc, maybe it would've been less noticable and more fun. But there's something amiss when the developers have to change the format of the entire story delivery just to compensate for the fact that their game is REALLY REALLY LONG.

Plus, they tease you with huge Gears like the merged city/airship that are only available for one battle.

There are quite a few good PSX games that weren't Final Fantasy or Xenogears. Saga Frontier (Never played 2 but I've heard it's just as good). Klonoa. Brave Fencer Musashi. Megaman Legends 1 & 2, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Lunar Silver Star Story, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night  (My FAVORITE PSX GAME EVAR).

I highly recommend every single one of those games.

Not to mention Grandia, Alundra, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean: 2nd Story...but dude, weīre onPSX when the guy asked for PS2 stuff...

Ah, I have to say this: do NOT buy Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. IT has one of the coolest (maybe even cooler than Xenogears' or Grandia's or Arc of the Lad's) battle system, but the other system (the game system) kinda blows...

EDIT: Oh yeah, I recommend Shin Megami's Digital Devil Saga, specially if youīre into metaphores and kinda gloomy moods!

Its not that bad of a game IF you use a gameshark. Basically the game only lets you save it a few times, which is a very stupid feature. You can save it whenever you want, but then that data is erased when you load it.

If you die or your dragon meter goes all the way up and you don't have any recent game files, well you have to start over. The game is supposed to be designed like that, but I for one would rather play through a game then get half way through it and end up having to restart it from the beginning, its happened more than once...

So yeah, use gameshark, give yourself unlimited save tokens.

Oh, and Ryu is supposed to be able to turn into a dragon, but the little thing he turns into looks nothing like a dragon :(

Back to the KH part.

I don't know why you would think Kingdom Hearts is dumb. I can understand THAT you don't like it, but at least give me a reason WHY you don't like it. If you just sold KH because of the "Disney story", then you're selling the wrong game, and you aren't even worthy of playing any RPG.

So, please, give me the reason why you don't like the game.

THe story in KH was great.
I liked the little plot twists they included.
And the battle system was great

But if you want a diff game, I LOVED star ocean. Personally, I cant stand turn based battle systems. I dont play many RPG's, so thats really all I can suggest. But Soul Calibur and DMC:3 were great. Maybe some RE4.

I can say the same about Final Fantasy VII, or Secret of Mana, or hell, even Fallout.

Lame excuse for the fact that you just don't get the story.

And they seem to not do anything, but in fact they are quite helpfull. Play through it a little more before deciding on selling it. I bet you didn't even get after Traverse Town, from where things only can get cooler.

How could you not understand the story?? It was very very VERY easy to follow, and it is a great game... I'm just getting a little angry at the delays on KH2.
