Title: Wolf's Gaze
Post by: Bluhman on November 20, 2005, 06:35:08 PM
Yay! We're back!

STORY:

Osdray Ech-toroll is a hunter. He guards over the small village of Mixan, hidden in the heart of the great forest. The village was lead by a shaman, who sought to keep balance in the village.
One day, a wolf attacks the village, nearly killing the shaman. Osdray, of course, comes in the nick of time to save the village from the wolf.
Osdray felt sorry for not showing up soon enough to defend the shaman, so to forgive him, he came to see him.
The shaman was pleased to see Osdray, but in Osdray, he saw a brash, stubborn man who was overconfident. He warned him not to rush into things he's not sure of. An argument between them started, and eventually, Osdray storms off, back into the forest.
Osdray had never lost a single battle in his life, but such was about to change. The alpha wolf ambushed Osdray and nearly killed him.
He woke up, back in the shaman's abode, wounds mended. Osdray was ashamed at how he had lost against such an easy opponent, and not even outnumbered! He was enraged at how he lost so quickly! Soon after a short lecture from the shaman about what had happened, Osdray figured it out; The shaman had deliberetley possessed the alpha wolf in order to defeat him!
The elderly and frail shaman posed very little against Osdray's superior strength and skill, and the shaman was beaten to death with Osdray's staff.
It wasn't before long when Osdray realized what he had just done. He had done the unforgivable; he had killed his own shaman; he was forever banned from Mixan, and he knew it. He set off north, through cold mountains, and settled on top of the highest and coldest of peaks.
It was after a few days in the mountains, when Osdray figured it was time to start again. He would become a great warrior; he'd be remembered by all!
Refilled with determination, he began to traverse his way down the mountain...

DOWNLOAD: (Go to PG 10 to get the updated copy.)

FEATURES: There are many interesting quirks in this game to be inserted if the game goes down okay. Already working is an Acrobatics system, a custom-made church system, and a counterattack system (which is done, but not implemented.)
The main thing about this game, though, is freedom. After you get to a certain point in the game, you'll be completley free to do whatever you please. I plan to make many sidequests and try and make the game as balanced as possible.
If you have any more ideas of what could be included in the game, PM me.

More later.

EDIT: Finally figured a title. Tell me if it's good or not.

EDIT2: SCREENSHOTS!!!

Title screen. I don't paticularly like it.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Battle screen of main character performing special attack!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Battle screen of some other armored dude performing his special attack!

Other things-

How my version system works:
Basically; it's going to be like this:
All parts of the manditory, standard story (In other words, there's going to be a bit of a possibility to make slight story branches that ultamitley lead to either an alternate ending or further in the game with certain bonuses) will be finished by ver. 1.0. By version 2.0, I plan to have most of the major plot branches finished up. By 3.0, I plan to have a wide array of sidequests done. That's how my versions work, pretty much.

Hah hah hah! Don't worry, it's serious.

Expect it, as of right now... to be mediocre. Just I need SOMEBODY to play it in order to get some criticizm.

I'm not finished yet, but so far I think this game pretty good! It has all the elements needed to keep me interested and it hasn't been too hard or too easy. The story moves along nicely too - not too fast or too slow. Lerryndununt made me laugh. Yeah, so I think this is better than mediocre. I think of mediocre as "you need to get the four crystals!" and bad mapping and badly used rtp. Oh, yeah I recognized the midis at once and I've always liked them. As for the title, how about "Warrior"? Just a thought. So far, I'm really liking this. Good job!

Well, you deserved some good feedback! I mean, more than half of the games in the games section don't have anything ready (myself included) and probably about half of those games get dropped, so just having something to play is great and it's even better if it's a good game. Seriously I'm having trouble thinking of anything I haven't liked - well, maybe an end of demo sign, I got a bit confused when those dragons just kept talking. :p Also, the font's not fixed, but maybe that's just me. Other than that, I stand with what I said before. Can't wait to see more!

Hmm... well, how do I put this nicely.... I played it untill you got to the slime problem, red-house town and stopped because I was bored.

Pros: The events and maps are good, and I love how you made small events like the carpenters and wood carriers in the town. The poses and cool, and the faces are cool too.

Cons: The faces still have that blue around them, the battles are to often and to long, there's no inn at the first town (and if you're like me and took the wrong path in the beginning, then you'll know that you can lose health very fast), and most maps are very squarish. However, you're mapping is above adverage and the squaring is minor so I wouldn't worry about it.

I mainly stopped because battle took to long and got me bored. Your events if what I would say is your high point, and battles would be your low at the moment. Just put their speed down on the map so you don't run into so many or take some out.

Thank you. I might want to mention you can start moving fast if you press shift. It allows you to go around quicker.

Thing is, he accidently took the wrong path, and didn't know you could run by pressing shift. There are these slow-moving, powerful packs of wolves in the woods. He must've encountered some of those...

On that note. After the event with the prince, my dash was only as fast as normal speed, and normal speed was super-slow. Not sure if that was a random glitch or a bug in the code, as when I checked the event, everything looked in order.

If you tap shift really quickly, you can end up walking really slowly, or running crazy fast. I'm not sure how to fix that though.
Title:
Post by: WarxePB on November 20, 2005, 11:25:23 PM
Probably the easiest way to fix that would be to have two Common Events, one with the key input that turns some switch ON and the activation switch OFF, then the second event, which would be activated by the switch in the key input event, would execute the dashing code off, then turn the first activation switch ON and the switch for that event OFF.

EDIT: Tried it out, and it seems that that method fixes it.
Title:
Post by: Bluhman on November 20, 2005, 11:52:12 PM
Doesn't seem to work for me...

EDIT: Nevermind, your method still doesn't work, but I made one where the paralell process event pauses for a few seconds.

It should look like this. This is from the dash system in my game Pact and it's practically flawless.

nice screens, but they're a little bare. Try adding some flowers, or extra patches of grass on the outside.
and some varying grounds in caves.

Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 23, 2005, 10:47:04 PM
Well, here's a few tips from me:

First, your plains areas are fine, better then fine in fact. They could be a little bit more compacted with detail, more flowers and trees and etc, but over all good.

Caves, this is pretty common. Most people will put huge chasms in the cave and a few spires that jet out. By the looks of things, and I can't tell if this is true or not, you only put spires where you have an event or a place to go to. But remember, you can always put a spire there just for the hell of it, rather or not your character can jump to it. And also, instead of using the tile to paint the edges of the cave walls, go through and use the seperate tiles. Adds less squariness.
Title: Demo Ver. 0.2 is OUT!!!
Post by: Bluhman on November 26, 2005, 06:35:49 AM
Hooray!

Here's the now fixed version! Huzzah! (http://rapidshare.de/files/8197397/Untitled_GameV02.zip.html)

Features-
-Goes up until you reach the arvil tavern
-Counterattack system tragically removed, but instead replaced with a charge attack system.
-Demo-end screen added!
-As shown in the screens, a bit more jumping involved, climbing down tunnels, and dodging falling boulders.
-Osdray now has another special skill, though you might not acheive it within the timespan of the demo.

Fixes-
-Fixed the run-bug

Questions that were asked; not very frequently, though, but worth mentioning-

Q: OMGWTFBBQ!!!!1 1 M00v Sl00! U suk!
A: Alright, calm down. To move faster, simply tap the shift key once to start running around!

Q: Hewwp! How do I use the charge system?
A: 1: only one character has the charge system. You might not have that character. Other than that, all you need to do is select the charge option from the battle menu, then wait a certain ammount of turns (By doing something other than attacking.) Then, when you feel like it's been long enough, attack, and a released attack will be launched at the selected enemy, dealing great damage!

Have fun!
Title: A suggestion...
Post by: DarkFlood2 on November 26, 2005, 05:16:41 PM
I like the dash system, however I think it would be better if you couldn't dash forever and ever. Make it so after a while you return to normal speed and have to wait for your dash to erm... recharge.

That would be good for like an are where you have to hide alot and it would stop people from trying to run away from every encounter possible.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 26, 2005, 05:42:07 PM
or better yet, a holding dash system.

If you want to fix the problem yourself, go into rpgmaker2003 and place the startpoint in the map named "Intro".

Heh heh. I'm so proud of myself for thinking of that before I posted and complained _sweat_

The jumping thing is awsome, I love it when you fall. The tunnle thing was cool to, but right after you come out of it, your speed goes up to 4X and doesn't revert back. Looking good as ever!

I enjoyed it as much as the first! Except I continued from where I left off so this one was pretty short. But it was still very cool! As for the tunnel thing, that didn't happen to me. Everything worked just fine. Oh, yeah and the Winston fight - Hydro City Act 2! Good choice. :)

It's probabily because you're using a stabbing weapon. He can only pull off splitter when he's using a weapon like a claymore or bastard sword; not a lance.

Don't wory fortet; the next version will give him a lance special attack as well.

Not bad, sometimes you need a big open space to give the player some breathing space. I really like this game, the storyline is okay, but it's actually funny. Unlike some games that TRY to be funny.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on December 04, 2005, 04:10:17 PM
En, I don't really like the openess of it, but I have always liked things more crowded then a average person, so yeah... I would just add a bit more in like fences and potters and etc to liven the empty spaces up.

Well, I've been wanting to reply to this topic for a while, but was too lazy.  But at 3:08 in the morning, I have nothing better to do before I pass out in bed.

Well, I have played the demo, and I think it's just great.  The story is not too deep, whcih is what I look for in games, but your charcters make up for it.  I like how each is set up.  they are all very unigue and original.  Not zombie like, which is great.  ^^
Of course, the visuals are awesome.  Great maps.  Great sound effects.  Pretty good music (stole a few  XD), and great animations.  I like the fact that the Hero is not a goody 2 shoes pretty boy.
Also, people say the game is hilarious.  I can see you want people to take it seriously, and I do.  But you do a great job with comic relief.  XD  Anyways, keep up the awesome work.  I'll definetly be checking out this place more often.  :D

 Version 0.3 is out!

Link  Here (http://rapidshare.de/files/8987475/WolfsgazeV03.zip.html) !

 New things:
-Slightly changed music (Most of it is actually in the intro)
-First Sidequest
-Belgare now has a special attack for stabbing weapons!
-Goes up until you reach the desertlands.
-Can't think of much else.

Screenies:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
A small taste of the Desertlands (I really can't come up with a better name for it.)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
A picture of the Bestiary.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
A taste of the sidequest system.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
More jumping on spires (I would of taken a picture of Osdray actually jumping down, but I couldn't press Alt Printscreen fast enough.)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Now you can climb!

I have no idea why I put this here.

DOWNLOAD: (Go to PG 6 to get the updated copy.)

If you have any more ideas of what could be included in the game,

funny this on the lines of talltails i been at the game for 2 years now as i keep finding new things to + to it

i got a shaman wolfpacks native hunters
and lots more

have you see the game the the brave on ps2

it,s on the same lines

No idea that existed Lonewolf...  :x

Thanks alot Lonewolf; You've crushed my hopes and dreams forever. This game is obviously a lost cause and should be halted immediatley... I'll never be a great game maker... :( :( :(

("lost cause" meaning "pretty ok.")
("halted immediatley" meaning "slightly modified")
("never" meaning "some day")

Ok; seriously, lonewolf, It's very obvious you haven't even played my game yet. What I typed there was only the beginning of the game; and when it comes down to it, the wolves n' stuff are story elements, not gameplay elements of some game with a really ugly main character.

EDIT: Did some research on this "The brave" thing

The game follows the adventure of a young Native American boy named not surprisingly Brave. The early story to Brave sees the evil Wendigo which is a powerful shaman demon rip straight through Braves village. Brave then gets the tip that the only person that can help him restore peace is the greatest shaman that ever lived, Spirit Dancer. So in classic adventure fashion Brave promises a bit of revenge then sets off on his epic quest to become a great warrior.

Well aside from the last line, it really doesn't sound all that much like my game. At all.

:|  It was alright. I didn't play it all though but what i played was okay.
some things annoyed me like the 2 dragons and the tunnel with the mining cart (thats where i stopped playing). Besides that it was good and the events and maps were good. I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

That won't work. I can only upload 10 MB at a time unless I get this damn toolbar I don't care about. Besides, It seems more like a site more suited for a photo album, not storage for big gamefiles like mine, already measuring in at about 9.4 or so MB.

Yep. Screens of ver. 0.4. I plan to have it out December 27th. Now you're probabily wondering why that date instead of the 25th?

1. People usually go to relatives for christmas, then come back 1 or 2 days later.

2. C'mon! You guys deserve better! More time to work=More time for you to play!

That's you're "improvement" to the highlands? ....meh

Your windmill thing is pretty cool looking. I've been trying to do something like that with a two-sword effect and I keep failing miserbally. I know this isn't the right place to ask, but could you do something like that for me if I gave you the chara and the weapons?

Your titles are cool, and by the looks of the picture you've got a waver effect going. And, that background of the battle looks pretty good too. I gotta say, you've got a good tallent for making battle backgrounds.

Dunno about your animation. It took me one full sunday afternoon to make the windmill strike work, and even then, it was more difficult to assemble it in the battle animator to make it look good.

It's 5:00 in the morning in my time zone, but I don't care! "The Movies", a really addictive game where you make movies, has been consuming all my extra time, rendering me with no time to work on this game!

But, before you think I come empty handed, I present to you, on this early, early morning of the 27th of December...

 0.4! (http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.php?f=09f575065475937c023cb111)

What's changed-

-Pina now has a special attack; Burning heat.
-A minor story branch included!
-Osdray's new windmill strike
-A few maps were embellished to, well, look better.
-There's a minigame involving Lerryndenunt. I'm not going to tell what the game involves though.

Eh, Not much else has changed. Just goes further. Screenies later today.

Well, I'm playing version 4 right now. Once again, it's still great! BUT, I found a glitch. When the red slimes attack, I got Pina and Belgare to come to the house, and I ran back to the potion because I thought I had to finish it, and then the scene started up again where Lerryndenunt realized he needed elf hair. So I suppose I'm supposed to kill all the other slimes. I also noticed a little easter egg when Lerryndenunt was reading the alchemy book. ;) I'm liking his return so far, I'll post later when I'm done.

EDIT: Well, I'm finished. I have no other comment really. Nice job again.

You must have not started the sidequest requiring the rope then... Heh.

You must be a bit baffled about how the game works. You could either do the aformented sidequest, or you could continue the main story by going back to Tomeche and speaking with him.

I played some of it, so far its pretty cool :)

Couple of grammer errors though (other people might have mentioned them already though). Anyway, throughout the whole game, you spell went as wen't, there shouldn't be an ' in the word. Oh, and when you're talking to the shamen he says" I wan't to be remembered as teh ranger that one every battle" one should be won, and of course wen't should be went. Oh, and the title is called Wolfs Gaze? I think its supposed to be Wolf's Gaze. The 's shows possetion, so if the gaze belongs to (or is from) the wolf, then there should be a ' in the title. Err I just noticed that your game topic is called wolf's gaze, but in the game where it shows the title there isn't a '.

Anyway, cool music, good gfx, great story so far :)

Err one more thing quick. You start at lvl 6 right? You need 4000 or so exp to get a level or something like that. But you only get somewhere around 20 (I forgot the exact number) at the beggining of the game. Thus it's gonna take FOREVER just to get one level up! Maybe you meant it to be this way, but I suggest giving the monsters a bit more experiance so you don't have to go walking around and kill 200 enemies for your first level up. Maybe you can make it like that a little later in the game ;)

Trust me, you're going to be getting 1000 or so XP for finishing certain quests. I was kinda thinking about Baldurs Gate when making this game, remembering how you got only 16 EXP for every enemy you killed but needing 1000 just to get to level 2. Also, for quests in the beginnig, you got about 100 EXP for quests finished... Or was it 1000? Can't remember. I guess you're right. EXP Values for enemies are going up.

Oh yeah... about the grammar on the title, See that weird gap between the F and S? There was supposed to be an apostraphe there, but I guess it just dissapeared... Hm.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but when you're at lerry-whateverhisnameis's house, when you battle the slimes, you should set the victory bgm to the battle music. That way, it doesn't pause the music to do the victory and begin playing the battle music again. Then change it back before the boss fight. It makes it sound a bit better... to me at least...

Well, here's some screenshots of the redesigned intro, now with less spelling error and oddities!

Thought "Die like a dog" was a bit odd of a statement to make at a time lika that.

After a bit of research, discovering that they weren't pentagrams, but just "stars", I decided I'd just change it to symbols.

Probably the only one that's showcasing correct spelling, Osdray used to say "Trophee" instead of Trophy.

Lerryndenunts new excuse for why he's in the mountains.

Ladies and gentlemen... I'm sorry to announce... But VERSION 0.5 IS COMING OUT THIS MORNING!!! WOO!!!

Uploading right now, it's at 41 percent at the moment. Anyway, while you're sleeping in your cozy beds, here's 3 shots for you to look at.

Lamenting over Cats.

The new character, Rinel, using Fireknife

New bosses.

Ok, after that, uploading percentage has reached 67 percent. Expect a link soon!

EDIT: I said to expect a link soon.

http://rapidshare.de/files/25713647/WG05.zip.html

NEW FEATURES:

Goes up until the end of floor 1 in Dagon Lair
New Character-Rinel. Probably the first optional character as well.
Title screen music changed. Now in MP3 format, but the same song!
A New City.
Enemies are a bit harder
There's some easter eggs! Most require usage of Ctrl, though. Try doors you can't reach and places you can't reach.
That's... About... it.

Right after the Exile, It said the file "dawn1" was missing. Is this a panorama or something?  I really wanted to continue this. I have a different RTP so I had to change a lot of the graphics to play this.

I'll give a review when I finish it.

RTP Panorama indeed.

Well, that was a quick sighting. I used it because that was the only golem sprite with 2 different frames I could find and didn't look too cartoony for it's own good (Like a golem from some obscure platformer or something.)

Playing through it now. Saved it before the cave and tochmecho. I will continue tomorrow. Since I've played this far before in the other demo, nothing new to say. Except that you may want to go back and touch up on a few things. such as grammar, and the way your maps transition, kinda weird at times.

Still good so far.

Could you just be a tad bit more specific...!?

uhhh.... lol
okay

For grammar: sometimes you spelled want as wan't. Kinda odd, and I can't remember other things... but I'm sure there were a few. Nothing really mind numbing like "OMG, It's Teh Bloodmnoo~!:`1". So that's good.
For Map Transitions: Such as in Mixan, leaving the town. The teleport event is just kinda, there. Same with the mountain and a few other places. Hard to explain what I mean.

Sorry for the lack of specifics. But I'll see it when I play it again tomorrow or something.

I think he wants different screen transactions. Like zoom out and ect.

I haven't quite finished the new part yet, so I'll comment on that later.

However, I had also started a new save to see the changes you made, but I ran into a problem. Upon entering the mountains, I got no chance to go back to Daeltoth to rest and save, and previously I wasn't able to leave. So I checked if you'd changed it, which you did, but I once I reentered Daeltoth, I couldn't leave. :( There were no events to teleport me out of town.

I'll let you know about the rest when I'm done.

EDIT: Ok I beat the Stone Men, but then fell down a pit in the next part and had to start all the way back at the inn, which kind of turned me off to playing it again for a while. I think it's kind of frustrating not to have a savepoint there after going through that whole thing. Just a suggestion. :| Other than that I'm still really enjoying this. It's nice to see big maps that are mapped well and have so many places to explore. I also like some of your comical lines that are just thrown in there even in serious situations, especially the ones from the enemies. I also like the way you made Rinel optional. Of course I ended up getting him, being a rulebreaker and all. ;)

Yeah, right after the release I added in two savepoints; one before the stonemen, and another before the final boss in the demo. Of course, you can go all the way back to the Inn in town and save there.

As for the Highlands problem... I don't know!

EDIT: I'm also extremely glad to hear that the stonemen are beatable.

I mean, where Bluhman placed the Teleport events. Nothing to do with the transitions.

Agreed. If doesn't look like you can leave a map from a certain spot, you should put something there to block you like a cliff or something.

I haven't finished the game. You use too much RTP. I have a different version than you so I have to convert battle animations, chipsets, and charasets myself. I'll review it. Not very in-depth or anything.

I'll review it like this. I'll have 5 parts, story, graphics, sound, music, and gameplay. They'll go out of 10. Then I'll just average them together.

Story: I like the concept of the storyline, and I woudld like to see where it would go. I didn't really like the main character, but that won't change the score. Though, there were some parts that just seemed wierd like the slime epidemic only affecting one house.I also didn't like the dialogue. It was borderline between modern talk, and proper english. There were some grammar problems too. One good thing though, It was REALLY, REALLY FUNNY. (8/10)

Graphics: I'll be nice here. I don't like Mac & Blue personally, and I see it and a lot of the graphics you used in other games. Still, your game had perfect consistency. The maps were really empty. Some parts hurt my eyes. The mapping could have been much better. However, the battle graphics for the specials were very well done. They inspired me to work on my graphics more. (8.5/10)

Music: The music fit each scene well. Nothing special or memorable, but it did it's job. (8/10)

Sound: This is a low point. You used a lot of original sound effects which is good, but most of them were annoying. The sound effects for the weapons were impressive and dead on, but the magic sound effects and the sounds for the fat guy hurt my ears. This happened with and without headphones. Also, there wasn't really any sound out of battle. I think you only had wind for the mountain and that was it.(5.5/10)

Gameplay: Standard. I haven't gone far enough to reach any minigames or puzzles. The battle system wasn't anything done before. I'll leave this section blank for now. (N/A)

Final Notes: You had some well thought out towns, but I would have liked to see more houses and stuff. The snakes were awesome and scared the hell out of me when they suddenly slithered fast like real snakes. The people in them were somewhat believable. The wolves could've used some more speed. I could easily out maneuver them. I really like your battle animations. I did'nt like the sound effects. The mapping could use more detail. The battle system needs an extras.

Averaged score: (Not including gameplay) 7.5/10.

My opinion.

Oh! An interesting glitch I found:

Each time you jump one of them pits that require reflexes, you're going to have even less time to jump next time you encounter such a pit. To fix this problem, press F9, find the variable named "Time", and set it to zero.
