Post by: Seth Mitchell on November 26, 2005, 09:07:51 PM
Just out of curiosity, how does one become an administrator?

Ummmm. Like which admin do you want to know "how to be come" a global mod or a full admin?

Intelligence, dedication to the community, social skills, and luck doesn't hurt either. But there's no way you're going to become an admin of Charas without at least two years of activity under your belt.

No, I don't want to be one, I was just wondering like do you get asked or do you ask.

By making a site, if you make a site, you're free to be an admin there :p

Anyway, admins are people who have been here forever and show a real dedication to the site, but they also have the skills.  :o I can't believe we don't have a smily with sunglassed, I'd use one right now :(

that must be hard for the main man to figure out which full time person on charas of 2 years...(which is a lot) Could be a good admin or mod, or have good skills with all that stuff, unless he knew them as a friend or what not. Thats what I would think. I mean I doubt he goes up to 2+ year dedicated people asking them if they got skills to be an admin.

But on the other hand, being an admin isnt all that hard if you know how to be one I guess. Anyone can learn it in a day or less.

But now I am curious how he picks his admins. I mean you would have to trust that person really good to let them mod or admin the forums. I bet he hires good friends he can trust and know well enough. Thats the most logical conclusion I have.

Of course I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that, unless one of his friends tells about a friend of theirs that is good at admin stuff and sites..

Oh by the way *DragonBlaze* That comment was funny. So very true too. Best way to be admin is own your own site, forums, etc.

I say the hardest thing to do on a site/forum, is keep your domain from being locked up cause your pc fried before you could pay off another few years on it.

I was so close too, I was just 2 days off the deadline, now they make you pay 200$ to get it back, or wait 60 days. lol stupid companies.

Or maybe dealing with companies is the worst part of owning a site.

About asking to be an admin, it's as simple as this:

Don't call us, we'll call you.

In most forums/mmorpgs that I have seen, it's illegal(or useless) to ask to be an admin/mod/Insert synonim of "Power Abuser" here.

Yeah, that's pretty much the most basic rule. Don't ask. It just makes you seem desperate. If you work hard and show dedication and spirit, you're more likely to succeed.

Ugh, I sound like a motivational speaker.

*washes self*

Irony - The only person who has ever been an administrator besides Alex at Charas, Sai'Kar, asked to be made one.

Being one kinda seems like it would suck, it's like...a responce ability. And again this was just out of curiosity.

It's true I asked to be an administrator. I was asked before to fill the roll but declined due to school workload, but later offered my services for the job and was accepted. Before than I had been moderator of All of All and the Request forum and had been around a pretty long time and had a long record of supporting Charas in various ways.

Darkfox, Kijuki, and GhostClown have similar histories in long service of Charas as moderators and supporters of the site.

It's not random. We're not his friends in real life and I never talk to Alex outside the forum, but we've proven our loyalty over the years and have held lower positions successfully.

ok, ok. But NORMALLY you won't be made a mod or admin by asking them to. Prove yourself worthy and you MIGHT get a chance to be one. Just as CoolSidane said, you'll look desperate, or, in my opinion, childish, unless the mods and admins are in need to, getting the people to know that a mod is needed. Until then, keep quiet.
