Title: The Genian Conflict. Status

The Demo copy will be begining beta testing next week it seems..
Im not online, nor will I be posting a beta version online.....so unless you live down the road from me, I wont be needing your assistance beta testing.

All of the new Chipsets are custom......
All of the new Charsets are custom.....
The lead character, Nigel, is now different.

The Stealing system has been tweaked.....as with the Job system..

The Job/classing is now based alot more toward FF6.....the character does NOT change jobs.....but has their own set of skills...that progress throughout the game...

The Vehicular system.....I never went into this much before but I shall now.

Similar to say, Xenogear.....you have Vehicles to choose from....wich all have different upgrades available. They are treated as seperate Characters......You start with a crappy "Car" type of vehicle, and upgrade, buy new, salvage, build, untill you end up with Bipedial Robots that crush stuff with the power of METAAAAL!

Now Implemented.....

Rare Items Shops.....You Buy/sell/trade rare items.......there are missions involved in getting some. some are very rare. some are used to forge new weapons etc.

Missions.....Ive stolen elements from FFTA for the mission system.....but it works nicely........they are all operated through the...

COMPUTER system........
I dont feel like getting into this untill have bugs worked out.

And the Forging and Blacksmith and Mechanic Shop system...where items are forged using other items....a simple bartering system really..


The ability stealing is still heavily implemented....but now Every
Character (Most anyways) Have their own special "Steal ability"
that im also not going to get too far into....

Im taking a break from work to write this so im in a bit of aq HURRY....



Anyways.......

Ill try and remember to get some screenshots online next week....

The Genian Conflict

The game starts out, in a small yet prosperous Country, Composed of Scattered Islands, that refers to itself as "The Corneilian Republic"...It is a country where all races, even the Genians (A race widely outcast due to their un-natural origions and bizarre, varying appearance) albeit in seperate colonies, self sufficient, and self contained.

The Sepian Knights, A guild of Contract Adventurers are Based out of a Headquarters a small trek away from a  busy harbour town, Where they, and other local Guilds Compete for Jobs...The Sepian Knights, Score big....with a high risk, but high paying job, of the utmost secrecy...to investigate a communications cut-off from a mountain-peak mining town......

Grim Events Unfold Leading the Sepian Knights on a mission to report to the crown itself, only to be met with treachery and knowledge that could mean the end of peace among the races and guilds of the world.....
The Events that Unfold Prepare for the Immense World of  Gameplay and Immense story to follow...

Im not too hot with variables......I dont grasp them well, Unless I have somebody Specifically explaining what Im doing, And why Im doing it, What ITS doing, And Why its doing it.....Either way....




My theif's behaviour, in battle, is much like a Blue Mage.

Really, In this game, All characters can Learn Enemy Skills, But its the Theif who obtains them...

I have a simple system for it, beacause Im stupid.

I have A "steal ability" Skill....It is a switch...

The Enemy uses a Stealable Skill.....It triggers a switch.....
When the two Switches Activate, The Theif Steals The Ability Item....

The Ability is contained by using the ability Item...



This works.....Its simple in its logistics, and I grasp it well....

But as it stands.....The Theif Steals The Item, 100% of the Time, Without Question.....This is far too easy....

So I figured Id make a series of "Steal Ability" Skill/Switches....

I was planning to do this anyways.....as I would want to have a "Steal Fighter Ability....Steak Black Magic....Steal Summon etc..."
But Im thinking.....

That gives me 5 different "steal Ability" skills.....And If I have to make Different Versions of that skill, it would be confusing for the player to have to Choose Between 5 differnt "Steal Fighter Ability" Skills.....Not to mention there is alot more switches at play......

Im bad with Variables, as I said.....
So I Have two paths Id like to Take....The First one is my preffered path

In Essence Im trying to figure Out How to Have The "Steal (Insert Class) Ability" Skill's Potency/Effectiveness Directly proportional to the Theifs Level...

or

B
I would Like There to Only Be a 50% 50%chance Of a Sucessfull steal......


I need the player to have to Try a couple of times.....you know......Hunt for the Monster a few times to get the Ability Item








This is The First Issue......Out of Three...




The Second......My Summoners

There is 8 different Groups Of Summon (Well Call em Espers)

Eight Espers.... That I need to Figure out how to code.
Each Esper has A few Skills to use....3 to be precise.

Mog (Mog rush, Mog Lance, Mog Aid)
 Chocobo (Chocobo Rush, Fat Chocobo, Chocobo Feather)
Ifrit (Hellfire, Nulblaze, Fireblade)
Shiva(Arctic Wind, Diamond Dust, Nulfrost)
Ramuh(Quetzalcoti, Judgement bolt, Nulshock)
Titan(Earthquake, Seismic Toss, Boulder)
Seraph (Ultimecia's Wraith, Holy, Phoenix)
Tiamat(bahamut,Tiamat, Neo-Tiamat)


As its planned, Im making Each Ability a different skill.....Each Independant....
I need to Know two things....
1.....

Ill just tell you what Im trying to do...

In the Battle Menu

Attack ....................................|---Summon Ifrit----Hellfire

Last but not Least.......

Class/Guild Changing and Point System


Again, Ill just explain the Effect Im going for....


Nigel Starts the Game as a Theif......As such, Ge gets Commisioned With Special Tasks....Missions....To find Items, And Retrieve Them....He Reports to a Class/Guild Hall or NPC....
He completes The Guild, He gets A Guild Point Increase.......

He does this for quite some time....Goes up a couple of levels In his Guild....Gets Better Jobs Depending On the Level....

One Day, Nigel Decides He dosent Want to Be a Theif, He wants to Be a Fighter......

So He Joins The Fighters Guild.....He Now Has Zero GuildPoints With The Fighters Guild....
But He is No longer A member of The Theives Guild....)He can Not Steal Abilities unless he is a MEmber of the Theives Guild)
But He Can Still Use Any other Theif Ability Hes Learned Along the Way......
But now hes ripping it up as A fighter, With Theifs Abilities....Hes a MultiClassed Hombre With an Attitude.....He Can "Mug" a Guy....Then He can use his "Berserk" he learned from the Fighters Guild.....


I need to Be able to Change Classes.....in otherwords....
But I need the Character to Remember the Skills He Learned.....Unless He is A theif converting Classes, In wich Case the Only Ability Not Available is "Steal Ability"



I really Hope this all makes Sense.....

I need to make 4 more (One for each class)
For this Character.....

Her name is Sylphe

There are still discrepancies with her, but Ive lost patience...Bchar sets Are tedious for me....I get bitchy when I do them..

I probably just need to get more familiar......

Wich Reminds Me.....I will Draw Title Screens and Monsters For anyone who would Like to Lend me a Hand With  My Charsets and Bcharsets....
Ive Got alot Of them To do.....ALOT.....

Plus Two More on top of that...But those ones are for Generic PCs.

Lol i love that frog.  And in a gallery of pics of your own.  Its fine to multipost, when your adding attachments.  I do that alot on mine.

Btw if you want you could make your white mage like an archer also.  And add the skill purification arrow or something that instantly kills the enemy if its undead.  Along with any other arrow techniques.  Or a gunner cleric with the same idea. Calling the skill rocksalt bullet.  Because supposidly rocksalt distrupts ghostly spirits.  It is also  use for purification rituals and the blessing of houses.  You could also give your white mage sutras, that could paralyze or hurt undead enemies.  Maybe you could call your white mage a cleric or a priest/priestess.

Ive made the Same FF6 Connection....Duro is a Short Fixture....He is a Figurehead....Puppet...

The Dude Who takes the Throne After Duro is A Genetically modified Elf.....

He needs to Use Duro To take the Throne, So the  people dont initially revolt at the sight of an Elven King.......

But Duro's Job is to Make as Big a mess as possible, as king, To make the People Readily accept any ruler.....Elven or otherwise....

A tidbit for you....

Im working on a Portrait of the Character Ive been Submitting...

There are 3 Men, A woman, And An Androgeny in the Main Cast.....



I can Hardly Wait untill I get "Cid Garland" (Get that....A little FF1 refernce?) Up and Going....Hes Going to Be badass.....

At this rate, I should Be done By necx Month Sometime....Anbd can Get to Actually Making the Maps....

I would like to try make a charset for the grey haired person.  Though im kinda wonder how you cant tell, unless his/her face is covered partly. And really loose clothes.  Btw what character is the grey haired person, what class.

The lantern and Chefs Knife Are both Items Purchased/obtained....They will have Thier Own Animations.....

The Knife Associated With Melee Attacks, And Lanter for Magical Attacks.....

Now I have to think Of a new Costume For My White Mage/ Gunner..........Hrrmmm

Ah... you last thing was a lot to read, so I just skimmed it. So, you need:

Randommizing Thief stealing powers then?

I can do that in a snich. How's this sound:

Say you get the ability at lvl 30. For every lvl you've got, you get a 1% chance to steal. So, at lvl 56, you've got a 56% chance. Now, I can add more twists and turns to this if you want, like monster evadesion and etc. However, if you're truly considering doing this, the steal everything and all abilities and crap, you're going to need a CBS. Ask DragonBlaze about one. Once you get that, I can help you with the thieving option.

I suggest to add a lil red to your white mage.  All white mages seem to have red on them.  Usually triangles on the base of the coat/robes.  

Also you have a strange approach to character designing.  Usually most people have the charset done before the battle set.  Especially since you dont like doing sets you might get someone else to do it for you and thier vision maybe slightly differnt from yours and u might have to edit your battle set.

And about the thief learning abilities.  I wouldnt make it that hard to learn em.  It should just be harder to find the enemies of strong skills  Learning should be almost automatic maybe 25-50% chance.

Ok.....Heres What Im thinking......

At Lvl 1........

Character has a 40%chance of a cucessfull steal.....
Every level after that, bring, as you said, 1% increase

That would be all I need as far as the Theif Goes, now that I think of it.......

If I need to make it harder, Ill use Ryos4's Approach.....

    I agree with you on the Red.....I remembered that every white mage has a bit of red, and some blue


I tried to add blue to the inside of his trenchcoat....but it wasnt vibrant............

Perhaps if I made the pants a dark red? Or his shirt......Or should I leave all that crap as is, And just make inside of his coat red.....


As far as Charset spriting....For the BChars Ive made, Im also working on Congruent charsets........



But ryos4.....I gotta favour to ask you......

I really like the Theif Charset you made me, But Im going to have troubles converting it to a BChar without it looking like its foreign art....Can I send you my template, and get you to do the Bcharset for me?

The White mage Is kindof a Gunner Multiclass.....

He has no hat....Just red spikey hair.....

K ive been working on the summoner.  I got an idea for her clothes.  Though i havent done the side view yet.  I think the hair may be too little of the difference between the light and dark spots.  And a new color choice for her pants.

For white mage:
How about brownish gunner hat, like in FFTA.
And why do you need blue? White mages never have blue, they always have red.

I think A darker colour for the pants is in order.....perhaps the bandana/headress and pants should match......


Here is my whitemage thus far.....Im still in deliberation over the gunner hat....... The Whitemages Character Travels Around witha Dude who is Going to Be wearing a Hat For the majority of the Game.....

I think the front pose bill might be too long by one or two pixel.  

Yeah thats the horns that the summoners always seem to wear.  Though on IX it was actually attached to them.

i Redid it and made her top a lil higher.  And with the clothes i made and the hair you chose, I noticed it look strangely like Paine.  W/e and the middle one is another version.

And zero, you do good FE face sets.  I wish i could do those.

Btw u talking about my thief or his gunner/cleric.

I had a Feeling she Might come off as Payne....the two characters are similar.....

Regardless, I think Youve got a Keeper...

Im thinking I can give her a Big staff, that would be Uniform with all summoners....I can Edit this in though....(Summoner is her primary Jobset...the storyline is going to coerse tha player into Developing this Class most, as staticstically this is What she is Suited for.....I intended her to Come across a Bit more dark than Payne.....in personality that is...

Dont worry about that though......Ill use whatever you have, as Ill need Various Class clothes, and If they are similar, thats Fine.....This Character is Going to Have a "Summon" Menu available throughout the game, so A summoner touch is Invited despite her Class alterations........

Wedge is the tonberry....Hes in Theif and Black mage mode here...

Biggs is the Gunner On the Left...The Top is his White Mage...The Bottom, Blavk Mage......

I still gotta give a Scarf to Black Mage Wedge....but for the Most part, These guys are complate.

Edit: i  noticed something on the character i had to change. So i deleted the other post.

U can use my other characters for scarf refrence if needed.

Edit2: I just noticed the eye colors are differnt for the side and front.  So you choose the eye color.

Sweet....I made a couple of Edited Versions of your design, I hope You dont Mind......On the Attacment, I have the Version Of Abell that you made, and the 2 others I edited for her Jobsets....

So Now We have, On this set, the Following....
Wedge: Blackmage, Theif
Biggs: White Mage, Black Mage
Abell:Theif?, Blackmage, Summoner

The eye colors on the original are differnt you didnt fix it.

Make The thief top green.  And you should remove the horn on them for the non summoner.  If u need me to tell me.
I think you should add hats for your classes, it would be that much easier to change them.  Just a lil recoloring and a hat.

If you feel like it you can use these hats.  I Pulled them off my other creations.

Thief, Summoner, Gunner, Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage.
Bandana, Horn, Cap, Helmet, Mage Hat, Circlet.

I was too lazy change the warrior helmets color.  You can if you want, i suggest a blue or something.  And the black mage hat is generated.  So you might want to edit it sligtly to match the others.

Na i cant code very well.  And i lose interest fairly quickly.  Im here just to help people here.  I got a game idea but im too lazy.

And i created all but the black mage hat. Ripped means taken from a game.

What you think of Paine?
Damn every time i post something i find something wrong with it.  Oh well its fixed now.

I quite like it......Paine was a kickass character, despite the gay sequel (allthough I gotta say, the gameplay in that was sweet as hell.....if it werent like charlies angel at a japaneese rave, i wouldve actually kept intrest)

Here is my FIRST EVER COMPLETED CHARSET!!!

The only difference is I used the bandana, and added a black mage hat to Wedge, wich I have handy, if you ever need a non-generated Black mage's hat......Once i have some accessories made up, Ill post a sheet of them.......

One more full charset should cover my immediate needs.....perhaps 2.........then I can get a demo in the works, as soon as I have the coding.......All the other charsets I will need have no class-variance.......

You know what i find odd.  In every FF i can remember Shiva was presonified as a woman.  When Shiva infact is a male god of Hinduism.    Eh Whos to know wtf squaresoft was thinking.  The female hindu goddess is called Shakti.  

Maybe it was a differnt god.

so far, Ive just been using downloaded midis....I have yet to find a composing program i understand.....I havent met any midi people yet........im newer here...

An origional Score would be killer though.....but I imagine thats a whole lot of work too....

Oh btw shakti is the goddess of love and what not.  She has many forms that are mostly for the male gods.  Each male god has a version of shakti as thier "woman". lol.

I played around with sylphes design a bit tonight. And with the pony tail thing i had to edit the warrior helm special for this charset. The color of the armor and helm can be changed if you you wanna use this charset. I changed the eyes to Blue because they were too hard to see the same color as her hair.

Im guess with a name like Sylphe its a girl.

Anyway, she has a white scarf thing around her neck. Blue body armor, though i also had a vision of a skin tight top, maybe low cut. lol. And At her feet she has Fully covered leg armor. Going from her thigh to her feet, also blue. And under all her armor she wears a thin layer of black cloth for cushion, i guess.

I also think that the warrior helm on the thief needs to be changed to blue. So ill post the edit after this one. Damnit always after i post it i feel like i need to change it.

Hmm now that i think about it maybe they should do a complete costume change  I might recolor the summoner of the cape and horn, maybe gray horn, with a green and yellow cape.

Did you even start anypart of actually making the game yet or just the resources?  Cause you might want to start the map, getting the chipsets setup and overall layout of towns/dungeons.

You know what would be neat if you made biggs and wedge a duo.  They battle as one.  Like when you choose a basic attack, they both charge the enemy. 2 characters playing like one character, and only taking up one party slot.  This would allow you  to have one more character slot.

K i started the battle set.  I used that guy, Jp i think. His battle set as a guide.  I used the pose i made on the thief and just turned his head. You do know with this class system your gonna have to make 5 battle sets for each character right? lol. Anyway the battle set you use is too big. I suggest using jp's one.  Much better.

Right now i got the walking left and right, the idle Stance and defence stance.  And since im making it, this thief uses dual daggers. Try and stop me! Muahahaha.  Btw this guys name is Nigel is that right.  Strange name for a guy with red hair.

Btw how goes dreamhunters faceset.  I bet you forgot. lol.

K i been doing math homework for the past 3 hours.  Omg i hate working on homework on computers. So fken buggy.  I would have finished it in like 30 mins on paper.

Anyway the part one of the set is done.

Though you might need to add some flashes or something to his magic pose.  I still need to do the damage pose, the status effects, and what else. hmm i dont know.  Any idea what im missing.

I think shes awesome......I like your version of her fighter stance better than mine.....it has more of a variance......Since fighter is her primary jobset, I really want her to stand out when shes in that job, so the effect comes off nicely......

I have to run to the store, then Im coming back.....Im thinking Im going to try my hand at making Scratch Chipsets........see if I can do it........

Holy crap......Ive still gotta create most of the theif skills....and my summoner has like 2 completed esper groups......but regardless....I should have a very very buggy playable demo within the next couple of weeks......and a postable buggy demo, still by feburary.........unless im reeeeeeaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyyyy lucky......but Its looking bleak for january

And of course, Im still waiting on the CBS, and then more coding after that.....

I was thinking of adding a minigame feature that would basically be A simple Gamling system, but Made to fit the Guise of a Real-Estate, Or comoddity Exchange Market.....Or a Chocobo Race Race.....

you buy in, at an Investment.....an your investment either Makes you Money, You Break Even, Or you lose the Money..

Thing is, I have no freakin clue.....

If I had A standard set of directions to make this, Im sure I could Edit Everything to fit the various shells I have planned.....

But Id like to Have One of the Minigames Implemented for the Demo version of this.....

If anyone has any suggestions, knows of any tutorials, or anything of that nature, Id be appreciative

I guess youre right....now that I think about it.....

When they dont have a class, a simple club.......it has to look crappy......Like a big walking stick, that sucks...or a rusty shortsword or dagger......a crappy weapon, is my cheif concern for the classless character....
A summoner uses a mace/crosseur/Staff type weapon....




Ive decided that Im putting a restriction in place....


When classless, the character may draw from any family of abilities they have learned from (Except steal ability)....they can not learn new abilities when classless....

When in a Class, the character is restricted to its class abilities....
Re-Joining a class after quitting is going to cost money....but one can quit their jobset at any time in field play....

This brings advantages to Being classless.....But the big penalties to it is inability to learn new skills and weapon restrictions..

The Character system of course,  is a big thing...

When I decided I was going to make this game, I knew I wanted the following:
Summon Spells.....Cool ones..
Stealing
Blue Magic
Character classs/job system....
My own story told through a rpg format that a non-die-hard gamer can easily realate to...

I realized that most people hate fangames....
But I think that the characters and story will provide for a Fangame that dosent blow chunks....In fact, I think people will end up liking it....Its got enough of the familiar stuff to let you pick up on it without much thought, but as with the other ff instalments, the ability system takes its own direction, making the game distinct from others.

At first, I wasnt going to use the FF format, but the more I thought about how I wanted the game to play out, the closer it was to a FF game, and I was begining to realize that Unless it were a fangame, it would be a horrible ripoff....

I guess I Could take the Name Final Fantasy off of the title...but everybody will know after playing 3 minutes of the game that it is obviously a final fantasy themed game.....

If you cant beat em join em....I guess...

"Should This dude Call it a fangame despite the fact that people hate fangames, or  just Call it something different, despite the fact that it is designed to play out like a Final fantasy Game?"

The guild system was in none of the games.  

The way you learn the abilities is nothing like final fantasy.  More like breath of fire and teachers.  

The thief and white mage are nothing like any of those in final fantasy.  

Learning the enemy skills are a differnt way from final fantasy.  Breath of fire also uses enemy skills.

If you called the jobs (summoner,white mage, ect) something differnt it wouldnt be like final fantasy.  Alot of games have job or classes.

Stealing is common in all games. And so is summoning, just dont use the basic summoning names or looks and it will be fine.

Also that thing about highering help, which sounds really stupid to be in an rpg, and i have no idea how it will work.  They would take up a spot in the party, unless you incorparate them into an item or skill.  Overall its a bad idea.  And it is also not in any of the final fantasys i played.

If you get rid of the tonberry or change it to a differnt type of monster or character, and not name the guy biggs.  It should be all good.

Anyway here is the wand i was thinking for the summoner.

Ill have to scrap the chocobo and mog summons....but thats kindof minor.....Ill have to Make a new Title screen....But again...Minor.....I guess that will create a bit less work for me in some aspects....As for the Tonberry thing, in the story line, The tonberry character was going to turn out to be a Genian (artificially created lifeform), rather than an authentic tonberry anyhow....


That being said, I will Cange the name of the Game, and this thread.....And really....The Wedge character wont have to be changed alot in appearance, as he needs to look funny aqnyhow....

The Black Mage will now be Refered to as a "Genomancer"..Same Crap....different name, and it ties the magic thing into the story better

From Beginning of Recorded history..

-Unrecorded times....Nothing is known about this time, Except that The only Race of Uprights to walk the earth were the Humans....One theory of Creation, Is that in their civilization's Height, Humans Gave Birth to The Major Races, With a New, and Unstable form of Magic, Now Buried away, to save the world from its uncontrollable power....but in the earliest Stages of its discovery, the Humans Used the Magic to Create The  Other  "Uprights"....The Dwarves....for Intense Labour, bred for Endurance, stamina, And constitution, And Elven.....Bred for Superior Communication skills and sensory perception.....

All that is Known After this point, Is that the World Grew unstable....The "Alpha" or "First"  Magic started having Random Effects....Creating a species of its own, The Genians, before Throwing the weather systems and Continents Out of Whack....And Inciting A great Racial War....At various times throughout this War, The Major Upright Species Fought among Eachother, But the General Fear of the Alpha Magic, Meant the focus of all the Races Wraith Was the Genians.....

Crap i just emailed it to you and i just found a few things wrong with a few sets. lol. Dmnit.

The thief is all good.  But some of the warriors alignment is off.  And the summoners magic stance 3rd has one pixel too far to the left, the pink one at the very left needs to be deleted.  Im not sure but the summoners victory pose might need to be looked at also.

So....Some Updates, On various Crap regarding this project.

Wedge, The Tonberry-like Black Mage, Is now Vagren, the Chronomancer

Biggs, the Whitemage, Is now Lionel, The gunner-Mage

Instead of "Cid Garland" Being the Sepian Knight's Communications Officer, garrisoned, his name is "Troy Hoen" and Im changing his character traits slightly....Not that ive gotten into him....but I guess Ill give some words...


Troy Hoen is an Old dude....He used to be an adventurer...really sucessfull one....He now runs the show for the Sepian Knights, as the Communications Officer at the Groups Headquarters....Hes a bit Crazy, and Rambles off about his prime alot....Hes bitter.
He is like Uncle Ricco from napoleon dynamite, meets the Coach from Dodgeball....but put into a Horribly dramatic setting....He is going to provide alot of the Humor....He takes himself VERY seriously, but really hes just a washed up old dude, trying to relive his glory days....
He has a Big moustache.
He has no Legs....and rambles on alot about finding that "Bitch Wyvern queen that robbed him of his legs...." He ends up sending the group on a Big Chase, and lying about it....often lying about mission objectives, to pursue a Hunch on the "Bitch wyvern queen"
Later on, He designs the first Non-Military, Transport Airship and Pilots it around.

Btw what do u mean by play like a "final fantasy."  How does a game play like final fantasy?  none of the more recent final fantasys play the same.  Besides half of the FF dont even have class choosing & changing.

Wait you changed the black mage to a time mage?  Theres a big difference between those 2 you do know that right.

Dmn all the battle sets you need are gonna take hella long.  I did 3 in about 2-3 weeks.  Omg lol. And you need like 36 battle sets in all.  its gonna take like almost 4-5 months to make em all.  Lol.

If you wanted, you could Maybee send me a Bare bones Battleset,or a template of the main characters, and I can Edit them Into Finishing.....I can Align them as well..... Not to Mention Finishing touches......I dont want to dump more work on you than youre willing to do....

What I meant by "Plays like Final Fantasy" is that The Classes I HAD chosen, And the Abilities Entailed With Them were reminiscent of A FF title.. and the Condition/Status Changes are all besed on the Ones Familiar to FF games.....Also, The Story Progression, as it unfolds, are very reminiscent of what you would see in a FInal Fantasy Game......
My brain is geared away from the FF now though....

The Chronomancer thing sounds like a bigger step then it actually is.....Along with Black Magics, Like your standard Fire/Fira/Firaga I was going to throw some more specialized spells dealing with  time/space themes.....
Alot of People hear "Time mage" Anbd think immediately......Haste....Stop ...Slow..

But the story line plays out, in a Non linear format, Jumping around from Chapter to Chapter.....Alot of Flashbacks, Flash-forwards.....And Rich with Cutscenes..... So the Chronomancer will help aid in the progression of this aspect of the story....

Secondly......Think Physics.......Time and space, of course go Hand in Hand...."Time" is really just an abstracted measurement of Space.....

My "Chronomancer" Commands Magic Relative to Time and Space.....So I am open to new kinds ofd offensivemagic....
were talking quantum physics.....Sub-atomics.....matter displacement......but adapted into a Fantasy-Friendly Spell....

(Its sad, I actually have thought about the Scientific theory to back up the Existance of Magic in the Game world.....)

Your getting dangeriously close to the whole idea of alchemy, the magic that involves science. lol.  And chrono does mean time.  So what do u expect people to think.

And the way i see it, time really cant be measured in the real sense.  You can try to describe it, try to measure it, but no one yet to my knowledge knows what time can be described as.

Anyway, you could add gravity spells and comet.  You could add a spell that skips the enemies turn, call it time gap or time skip.  If that is possible.  If you decide to make him have space magic, you could use spells like  reverse gravity.

You can make the non class battle characters first.  And make all of the previously wedge characters battle sets.  I rather not make a non human battle sets.

Time, In the sense that we experience is a strictly perceptual thing.....this is proven in E=mc2....An astronaut in space for 6 months can come back and Have missed Years, Or weeks.....However, Time in the Mathmatic sense is a term used to desrcrib Large-*** distances......and is a constant........its like Pi in a way....or Km/h....Its a Multiple factored Unit of Measurement....And this is fact.......Hence, Time does Exist....

Alchemist sounds Cool.....So Does Chronomancy....

Every Character has a Secondary set of specialized skills, So I can have the character use both....that would be Kickass.....

Your just saying time is a way to measure movement.  And if that was true then you would be able to measure movement both ways.  In which time would have to go backward.  Which is not possible.  However this isnt always true.  It is possible to see back in time over vast distances.  Like if you use a very power telescope. If you look at an object 1 light year away, you wouldnt see it as it is but as it was 1 year ago.  Though viewing and going back is much differnt.  I rather not get into deep discussions about this kind of crap because i got finals now and i rather not waste brain cells, or time on this.

If your gonna make the charset, i suggest using Insane Jp Template and not the one you edited.  Cause if made larger, you would have to do alot of editing and it wouldnt be even looking.  And probably use my charsets as a base, and copy and paste alot of it.  I suggest using paint cause using idraw on such a small scale is pretty much pointless.  And makes you use too much effort on something that can take only mins.  Oh and if your planning on it flowing good you better not do any large scale editing to the way they look, none at all would be best.

Oh and about the gunner, unique style guns or like modern day weapons.  And it would be interesting if you could make an idle stance, and attack animation thats different for each character.  The the other animation can be the same, but differnt will make the game more interesting.  That is what takes me so long to come up with.

Oh and i got a final on monday, tuesday, and friday.  So i might not be able to help you much this week.  And next 2 weeks im gonna be at home, so i wont have this website on my fav list on the other comp, so you might want to email it to me, or i wont be able to help you at all.  Either that or just dl aim for the 2 weeks, it dont matter, i just dont like msn.

And if your gonna use alchemy, its gonna be quite a deal to make the system work.  Because, in alchemy, you can only use what is around you in the surroundings.  Kinda like a geomancer.  Which would screw the characters at some points.  Like if there in an artic area, where all the monsters are ice based, the alchemist could only use ice based attacks.  Which wouldnt make him a very good class to lug around.

If you want to, you do all of the battle sets for vagren, and  lionel.  And i guess the rest for Abell.  I feel like making the the rest of sylphe and nigel.  It would be so much easier if you got 3 more people and we each did one character.  That way they would all look original to a certain extent,  Allow them to adjust the costumes as they see fit.   To make it like the class system in FFX2, where each character has a look for each of there classes, non of them the same.

Doing all these char and battlesets make me want to do my own game again. lol.  Or atleast start up on my manga again.  W/e.  That is what i call ranting.

Ive figured out alot of the Coding that previously eluded me....

Ive Got the World Map for the First Chapter/Demo Complete, and Ive got smaller maps and and Working on a town, Linked up...

Ive started doing all of the Abilities from Scratch...Not all of the Animations are done....(Not nearly)

But nonetheless......

The Gemini Strain, Is running...The Battle System Works....

I still have yet to figure out how to program in the last resort attacks, If anyone who is any good at coding could lend an Ear, and some advice that would be super.....

The Summon Abilities arent coded as in-depth as Id like them, But for now theyll do.....

But the Game runs, Allthough Bare-boned right now.....

The Maps are looking really nice....Ive suprised myself with them.


By Late Dec/New Years, Ill probably be looking for some beta testers for the Demo.

Is it a group or single man vehicle? because if its one man you could use the steamboy vehicle.  Where the rider sits inside of the wheel, the wheel moves but the rider is stationary.

the mountainous area on the bottom is supposed to be a huge erroded-crater mountain....this part of the world map is a bit more scattered and random than the other maps I have....they are still on paper though...
I did alot of slight adjustments to try and make the RTP better...

Im hoping to make the dungeons very unique....moreso than the world chips.....

Ive done alot of efiting to the other chipsets to tell the truth....the continental overworld chipset is kindof basic...less is more

Well, they look good, but I've got a problem with the names. Thontos is the name of Ramus's thunder, Golem is ff6 summon and classic enemy (I really don't care about golem to much, I mean the name) , flan is an FF monster ONLY, and... yeah. You don't want it to be a fan game, so my suggestion would be to stop naming them after FF stuff, that's all.

There are 3 characters here.....Lionel....Redhair    Abell...Grey Hair and Sylphe....Pink hair.

they are displayed in the Jobsets they will be changing in and out of.....


The ones I need for the Demo, The priority ones...are the neutral Jobsets....the examples in wich the characters ar not wearing hats.

There are 2 others as well, but Ryos4 and I have those covered.....

In earlier posts, I believe there should be examples of the Bchar animations that Ryos4 did....these are all of the staus afflictions, and all that crap.....

If anybody wants to leand their services to the project, Credit, a townname, and return services will gladly be given....
If you need to take liberites with the design concept, please discuss them first, so I can work the charsets around it....

We are currently using insanejps Bchar templetes, accesable through the resource search engine here on the site......

Please, any help is awesome, as Im running behind with the animation.....

I was a Naval Cadet, and never heard of a Boat refered to as a Gondola.......Then Again, I AM canadian.....

A gondola is a Transport unit, suspended by cables, that takes you to the top of a mountain.....aka....Tram....or Tramway....Gondola......

Looks like you have the right idea on map making, but you can't do it really well in RTP without the "AGH! MY EYES!" Effect. At least, not in type of layout (overboard layout).

EDIT: When you make B-Animations, do you draw them and then directly sprite on top, make em from scratch, color and resize, or what?

Right now, Im making them by editing the Charsets Ryos4 made me.....but the ones I posted in the first pages of the thread, were done with a templete I modified, and detailed/clothed from scratch.......

I agree. Though Rudra and Mac and Blue and greatly over used, they would be a better pic for something like this. I mean, it's great that you want to make custom chips for your game and stuff, but perhaps you should just stick with already made stuff and edit to your liking, that's what I do.

Im making new chipsets right now....the oother ones were kindof crappy....Im keeping the worrld set, allthough editing it....


Im using ripped FF6 graphics, and some other stuff, but my maps are getting better now....here is the latest chipset....it seems to work bug free.....

Sry dude got alot of stuff to do this xmas break. Alot more then i thought.  Idk if ill be able to do more for the next few weeks.  Besides i dont have any of my charsets i made for you here.  Starting from scratch blows. lol.  Though im sure ull only really need one bset for each character for the demo.  More would be better but one is do able.

I might not come back for a while.  Having explorer here making hard to navigate.  So gl with that.  And btw sweet flan summon.

Im not online anymore, wich is why there has been nothing posted on this thread.

If, for some reason, anyone is still interested......here is where the game is right now.



Im using all homemade chipsets......with about 8%RTP content, because im still kindof lazy......the maps look sweet......very
'cartoony'....some friends have made comparisons to earthbound for the chip graphics, but I dont see it.

In about a week, a playable demo will be beta tested .......


But not online.......I moved, and cannot get high speed internet in my new house......its in the country. So one day, I dont know when, Ill drop an Alpha-mode Playable Demo....

For more info, see the opening post of this, Im about to go edit it now.

So....Im still offline....but with luck, Ill be in a new house, with Highspeed, Mid april.....

Upon beta testing the origional version, I found I was lacking congruency........

This, being my first game to actually be played by anyone other than myself, is going to be as close to perfect as my abilities allow......

That being said, Im changing quite a bit  in  terms of mapping, and coding.....

Ive manged to grasp variables.....so alot more fun crap is in game now....

As well as origional pencil art throughout the game.....

 
Its going really well.....and its alot bigger than i even imagined it would be.....

Turns out my "Playable demo" is going to be about 5 hours of solid gameplay, along with about 5 more hours of unlockable....


But its doubtfull that anyone is even interested anymore......


Either way, In a month or so, your all going to get to play the demo.....Im pretty confident that if I had kept this a fangame, it wouldve been the one that wasnt sucky.....

Yes, definatly......

Ive been absent for medical, financial, and divorc-ical reasons...

I shant get into it too much.....thats why I have a myspace page.

But yeah....A month....Give or take a couple of weeks....

Ive got to go out of town for a spell......to tattoo people at a carnival.......and when I return, I should have posession of a new house......in an actual town......not the boonies....with a roomate who isnt a ex-fiancee who has sex with my friends and.....sorry.


The game is coming along.....

Before I actually post a demo, Im going to need a beta tester other than myself, one with a good grasp on variables.....

For the most part Ive got them down, but Id like some input from others.....



This  demo/Game/installment is part one of three.....

All three parts run parallel to a graphic novel ive been working on for umpteen years......So its then a "Paraquel"

As soon as Im back online, however.....I will post all of my chipsets, and character sprites......And facesets......these things have all benn made from scratch....the chipsets are easy to use.....and i feel that for the help ive gotten from this forum, Im going to make all of my resources public.....

If anyone wants a copy of the Demo version, and I mean....REALLY wants a copy......

I guess I can snail mail out a Burnt copy.


But seriously....this game is frikkin sweet.

Actually, it sucks, but it looks origional, and has a kickass story, and its replay values has kept even myself up untill 5 am.

There is still a little bit of gathered RTP and ripped graphics in the chipsets.....Like in some of the smaller objects, chairs and such....the odd grassy-autotile.....but even that crap has been recoloured and blended and such......
