Title: Garage Band
Post by: Almeidaboo on December 12, 2005, 02:00:10 AM
Hey guys, how you doing?

I dunno which of you guys use Machintosh (sp?), but there is this program called Garage Band, that looks pretty much like those techno-music programs, per say, you inserts the sounds in the timeline and combine them making songs...But those are techno-crap programs...

But Garage Band uses battery, guitars, bass and other intruments, which makes it quite cool to play with...plus, you can make your own customized soiunds and stuff.

Thing is: it is only avaiable to Macs...So, what I want to know is: is there similar program to PCs?

Yah, it's called "Super-Duper Music Looper". But there are hundreds of versions and update patch type things to it. But what you want is get
Super-Duper Music Looper:Rock On edition or something like that.

I use Fruity Loops.

I've used Garage Band before, it's pretty fun. You can add effects to your recordings, so you can record yourself on guitar and add distortion/other effects.

Thats a pretty ignorant comment. you can make electronic music with GarageBand, just as you can make other music with the "techno-crap" programs (ProTools, Sony Acid, Adobe Audition.)

Above all i recommend ProTools, but as that is a $1000 program and requires hardware, I would recommend Acid and Audition.
If you are just using loops, I recommend Sony Acid (Acid express is free,) but if you are recording live playing along with loops, you should use Audition (that is what i use.) Audition has better support for recording than Acid.

Each of these programs is below $200, but if thats still to musch there are freeware programs such as Audacity.

I AM ignorant when it comes to these programs...and I know GB has techno-crap sounds in it, I just neednīt mention it. Plus, as I didnīt remeber FL having guitars and stuff, I specified it as techno only...

Ok, well my point is you can have more sounds than just the ones preloaded in the programs, so really it all depends upon what you want from the interface and your purposes for it.

Is there an Easy to use (For an idiot as myself) program (Freeware) For Composing Midis?

Years ago I tyried a Demo of fruity loops, but I was doing alot of Drugs then, so I cant remember if it sucked or not.....

I would need something with a friendly interface that wouldnt leave me in the dust.........

Keep in mind......I have no money for this so I would be looking for a sweet demo or some freeware

Fruity Loops (at least the one I have) comes with a "Slayer" plugin with a lot of different types of electric guitars, basses, etc.

Or, you could get some soundfonts and import them in yourself.

Slayer solos would just add the crappy randomness

Not really. Listen to some of the pre-made mixes that  come with it.

I don't know if your even better off using a MIDI program. I use Tabit, a guitar tabing program, to make my MIDIs. It really isn't designed to make MIDIs, but it does it offhand extremely well.  Also it's only 20 dollars.  If you can read guitar tablature than you can work this program.

I'll post a link to get it here:
 Tabit (http://www.tabit.net/)

There's a free trial download, but its not that great. I would just shell out to get the full program(witch I did) because it works wonders with MIDIs

There's like 200 instrument sounds to choose from too.

Kerry King can't play solos... but Jeff is fantastic... mind you they're all mindless speed solos... it'd be interesting to see a melodic song from Slayer
