Title: It´s all Mr.Mister´s fault, really...
Post by: Almeidaboo on December 13, 2005, 02:58:27 PM
Thanks to Mr. Mister I got to think about punk rock (the ones from today - Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, etc) and...and now I HATE IT! I HATE the fact that so many americans have the same stupid, squeaky dumb voice and sing that crappy stuff about how your g/f cheated on you and those easy dumb guitar technique...oh God...

Fact is, I can´t listen to it anymore. Except for some bands that are outstanding, like Green Day, Offspring and My Chemical Romance (these last too severely stained with metal, IMO), I just can´t stand poop rock bands anymore.

So thanks Mr. Mr., for helping me reduce my fav bands from 200, to 17 (LOL). And welcome me, to you club. As wisely said by Jack Russel (Radiata Stories): "-Your trouble is my bubble...wait, that doesn´t make sense."

Anyway, this would be major spam if didn´t have a purpose, so lemme ask you guys something:

Have you ever got sick of an music style that you once liked? Why did it happen? Did you know Mr. Mr. when it happened? What do you substitute it with?

(I wanna make this clear: I don´t really blame Mr. Mr. for anything, it´s a joke really. Plus, it´s real that I got to think about the whole issue because of his position about it. We learn in Charas too...)

hah, welcome to american pop culture. I mean seriously, this country is founded on change and radical upheavals...but as americans now we like everytihing the SAME.

As for me, I've always loved good music that really never dies. Unlike todays "poppunk". You can compare it to disco.

and as for mr.mister, him and i share a similiar music taste, so I think his advice is alright.

I stoped liking rap after I started to understand what the lyrics meant.

XD it's funny how you can make another word by adding a letter XD

Like sombody said, add c to rap and you get crap.

Edit: Oh wait, that was punk rock. Dang. Well I guess Hip Hop has been a gripe with me. But that screeching and wailing annoys me as well.

ROFLMAO!!

Yeah Carmem, now I know what you guys meant...The detestful poop punk voice...

Other than that, I´ve noticed a new wave of nu-metal-pop-punk movement gaining force...They sing punk-like songs, with the easy guitars, but scream like Slipknot, pretending to be singing. This example is not accurate, because ythis band doesn´t do it all the time, but serves it well: Lost Prophets. (I´ll ge the right bands later...).

Hope it doesn´t grow too strong...

Lard Waffles is probably one of my only ones in that area. Oh and that thing I said about that old annoyance that was the first to get banned.

But anyways, I stated my pet peeves in music.

Umm... this is the same thing as everything. You bitch about punk being the same thing in every song, but rap, country, rock, all of those are the same too. Even the blues, it's all generic.

Almeidaboo, I tell you like I told some other Americans(continental, not US-Americans), go to Dutch rock. Kinslayer, ZKX and some other dude like it. Plus, it doesn't sound the same as American pop-rock bands. Mainly because we, the Dutch, are good lovers and don't have to sing about our gfs dumping us. You should ask me once for something.

All new bands I have heard from around 1980-up are all generic in their own genres. Hair metal started it all.

Hm? I thought you liked them... unless you just recently changed your mind.

Well, anyway I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not much for music with lyrics at all, though there are some I really like. Can't think of any right off the top of my head though. For the most part, no music really bothers me except for rap and probably country, though I haven't heard much of that. That is to say of course, those are the only two I've heard that I really can't stand.

I like to keep an open mind about all music styles, but punk is dead, and has lost all meaning. I don't think repetitiveness has anything to do with genre, just quality. It depends on the artists. Genres are just cages. Once you decide a genre, that limits you in a lot of ways.

I´ll try them out Drace...Although I made up my ears about the whole thing, I´m always open to new stuff y´know? Actually, when searching for new music, I go  here (http://www.gamingforce.com) and download random stuff from the FTPs...that´s whre I found Authority Zero, A Perfect CIrcle, Allister and Scary kids scaring kids, for example.

Disagreed. Some Bands can still outshine others, even inside a specific genre. For example Green Day, Bad Religion, Offspring. They´re completely different, all awesome bands, all punk rock bands. My Chemical ROmance is pretty much recent, and brought a new agressive music, inside punk rock.

Side note: fusion of genres usually makes a crappy new one (nu-metal, for instance). But "dirtying" a genre with another can be pretty good, like punk-metal. Pure genres are mostly good, but dying. Transition genres (post-grunge ---> hard rock) are between my favourites.

I need some more proof than 'all awesome'. They all use the same bogus, simple guitar riffs with the same cheesy teeny bopper lyrics.

I like some rap, like Swollen Members.

o.O

I like hip hop or metal. There is no real in between for me. So its like...either As I Lay Dying or Notorious B.I.G. (The Biggie Duets...****ing AMAZING!) in my cd player. MCR is OKAY. But thats about it. THis is the part where I would bash everything else, but I dont judge.

I agree, there are still good punk bands. The Bouncing Souls, Donots, Ash, Yellowcard and Autopilot Off are a few I like. But I prefer Hard Rock, Metal and Metalcore.

EDIT: While I post this, I'll post some of my favourite Dutch bands.

- After Forever
- All For Nothing
- Autumn
- Band Zonder Banaan (You could also search BZB for this)
- De Heideroosjes
- Di-Rect
- Heidevolk
- Is Ook Schitterend (Could also be found as IOS)
- Jovink & De Voederbietels (If you can't find anything with this name, try just Jovink.)
- Peter Pan Speedrock

That's one emo spankfest of a list you just compiled.
Emo isn't really a type of hardcore, it's more of a variation..
Almeidaboo, Greenday is one of my least favorite bands, but whatever floats your goat. If it makes your ears happy it's none of my concern. My Chemical Romance is pretty lousy, though. The last song I heard by them had like, no progression. It could have been 10 seconds long.

Well, compare. Compare Offspring to Simple Plan and you'll see that even though the quality doesn´t resides in complexity of the instruments (although Offspring are much more concerned than simple plan when it comes to "changing notes" hahaha), Offspring's song are more "worked on", they don´t feel all the same. Better, they´re not all the same. You can tell it´s a pretty distinct band.

SAme for green day....you can´t find a punk band (maybe "ex" punk band, who knows...) like Green Day, just because it feels different from the mainstream punk bands of nowaday.

I used "awesome" to express my own taste, so don´t take it seriously...

Punk is a joke these days.....Its packaged....Franchise stores selling the image of discontent, in order to give monotony to individualism....

When I was young.....13-16 I was pretty punked up......It was cool....Spiky things.....Old punk music was cool.....it was the early 90's so bands like NOFX and SNFU and Lagwagon, were all shitty bubblegum punk.....we were all about the old punk rock...

I stopped dressing like a hypocrite eventually....

The reason punk is popular, is because they want it to be....if THEY make punk popular, Anarchy and revolution and social reform, become cliche.

Simple plan? Punk? HAHAHAHA!

no.

Good Charlotte?

no.

Rap.....

An equivalent comercial pimping of subculture, but imposed on Black culture....

Rap and Punk started not too far apart from  eachother....they are more similar than youd think.....

And they, today, are still pretty much the same in ratio to eachother....Only now they are both stagnant mass-produced artforms, rather than New, and grassroots, and Independant.

thank you. I can stand The New york Dolls, if that is considered punk.

as far as the whole "angry" thing, I prefer twhen the emotions behind the music are real, which is kind of rare in punk music. I go to  some metal and industrial/industrial rock for that.

so basically, these are my tops in these genres:

industrial-y:
-KMFDM
-:Wumpscut:
-My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
-Nine Inch Nails
-Front 242
-Pitchshifter
-Skinny Puppy
-Throbbing Gristle

metal-y:
-Tool
-A perfect Circle
-Kyuss
-Queens of the Stone Age
-RATM
-Led Zeppelin

Electronic:
-Aphex twin
-the chemical brothers

Alternative/Rock:
-The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
-David Bowie
-RHCP

Rap
-Saul Williams

Classical (ok I'm lumping Romantic, Baroque, and most non-modern music in here)
-Enrique Granados
-Georg Phillpe Teleman
-CPE Bach
-Bela Bartok
-Dmitri Kabalevsky
-Edvard Grieg
-Frederic Chopin

Other
-Ennio Morricone
-Luis Bacalov
-Andrew Lloyd Webber
-Alain Boubil/Claude-Michael Shoenberg

These are my suggestions into real music with real emotion.

Okay, lemme get oen thing straight. My Chemical Romance... is like one of those pieces of candies you get for halloween, you unwrap it, enjoy it, then soon you're asking, "Where's the next one?"

I never liekd them, My fave bands? Offspring, Lostprophets(Which is an awesome band, shame on you if you haven't heard of them!), Sum41, (BTW: pantera sucks, I tried to listen to them and say they were an okay band, but no, they sound like Guns 'n Roses wannabes.) and Breaking Benjamin.

^Some of my fave bands^

EDIT:

Also,
Three Doors Down,
Smile Empty Soul,
Greenday,
Godsmack,
Foo Fighters

Okay, Offspring is pretty original, although not all the time in their lyrics. Greenday is a clone though, they just get attention because they weren't before :/ I can somewhat respect Offspring though, because you can actually have fun listening to it. Greenday has all the fun factor of Bon Jovi, which is ZERO, for all you no-bos who didn't get that extremely clever joke.

LOL!

Yeah, offpring, as said before, is heavily stained with metal...IMO, it´s notable the influence. Offspring is hardly about 1 single riff for a whole song (like Ramones, btw...). The lyrics aren´t the best, to tell the truth, but aren´t bad either.

Like:

Americana

Well I’d like to tell you all about my dream, it’s a place
Where strip malls abound and diversion’s mere moments away

Where culture’s defined by the
Ones least refined
And you’ll be left behind
If you don’t fit in
It’s all distorted
In Americana my way

Well my dream has come true
My vision has come true

Now give me my cable, fast food, four-by’s, tat’s right away
I want it right now cause my generation don’t like to wait

My futures determined by
Thieves, thugs, and vermin
It’s quite an excursion
But it’s okay
Everything’s backwards
In Americana my way

Well my dream has come true
My vision has come true

I’m a product

So don’t blame me, I just work here

I began to stop enjoying music like Smash Mouth, and began liking music like Slipknot and KoRn.  But then, while listening them, I was saying to myself, "umm....well.....did......what?"  So I switched to music that was somewhat the same, but not as much, such as Disturbed and Linkin Park.  I still like them, but now I listen mainly to System of a Down.  Also, stick The Offspring everywhere.  And why?

The Offspring = uB3R  R0xoRz!!11!one!!11

They aren't that bad.  After listening to about 20 minutes straight of "LOUD SCREAMING!!!  IT'S VERY LOUD!!!  LOUD TO THE POINT WHERE IT HURTS YOUR EARS!!!  CONTINUING THE LOUD SCREAMING!!!  AHHHHHHHHH!!!  Sudden Calm*".  After hearing that, sometimes a slightly calmer song is needed.

I used to like Linkin' Park, but their stuff is getting way too old and overdone. All they do is complain in their songs. That's why I liek offspring, good balance of everything. I foudn a song by them called Bad Habit, don't know which album it's from, but it's fucken hilarious.

And to oooog, there is no excuse for such a lame comment against Offspring. So, I'ma bust ya fucken ride.  :p

EDIT: BTW: SoAD is jsut way too screamo for me. I only like a few songs from them, toxicity and Chop Suey are one of them. Even though their lyrics have ltitle too no meaning. Especially when you look at BYOBs lyrics. >.<

Ozzy isn't labeled as the king of rock you know. Elvis Presley is labled as the king of rock-rock and roll.

ozzy,s the prince of hard rock sorry

Pantera... Guns 'N roses wannabes???
No... simple as that. They're METAL, GNR isn't real metal. They don't sound the same AT  ALL... you crazy man lol

Anyways... I listen to all music, and the biggest problem I have is the industry. Green Day got popular in the 90's and what happened? 300 Green Day wannabes came out. Now only 2 of them are still mentionable - Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, but both of them are steering into what is popular now. With the death of pop-punk, the rise of emo-punk is coming. MCR, FalloutBoy, there's a lot of emo punk, which essentially is just like pop-punk.

BTW: SoAD is jsut way too screamo for me. I only like a few songs from them, toxicity and Chop Suey are one of them. Even though their lyrics have ltitle too no meaning. Especially when you look at BYOBs lyrics. >.<

BYOB is about the way the US uses Commercialism to fuel their weapons. Maybe... before saying comments, read the lyrics.. and THINK. All SOAD songs are political, but very well hidden. And SOAD screamo??? Oh boy, you better listen to Alexisonfire then...

Yeah! Pantera is NOTHING like GNR!!!!! Pantera is trash-metal, same as Metallica in the beggining!

Actually, Queens of the Stone Age is Stoner Rock, not metal-y.

... desert rock, robot rock, stoner metal, stoner rock... all names for what they do. Don't get technical on me. If you had any clue what you were talking about, you would be yelling at me for putting Kyuss into this category for the same reason.

EDIT: Oh drace, for the record, I have only once heard them called stoner rock... mostly robot rock and stoner metal...

I don't think Pantera is anything like Metallica. Pantera is 'Southern Metal', which is like 10x heavier than Metallica.
Pantera is not similar to Guns N' Roses in any way, cause Pantera is GOOD. I'm not a huge fan, but I used to be. I think Vinnie Paul and Dimebag started the ultra heavy Damageplan, which wasn't as good.

^ agreed. Pantera rocked. They were somewhat Thrash metal, music wise... but Phil's voice was very black metal influenced, which made their music even heavier than Metallica.

Yeah, Pantera is pretty heavier...but when metallica drops the technique to throw speed stuff, you can easily identify common elements between the two bands. Take Pantera's F.ucking Hostile for example, and Battery, by Metallica.

Metallica's thousand times better than Pantera, specially cause they're close not just between them, but with the tools they use. They know what they´re doing.

You.. you're kidding right? Dimebag Darrell is considered one of, if not the greatest metal guitarist... There are a lot of very technical Pantera songs. Metallica are talented, but Dimebag is way better of a guitarist. I personally am not a huge Metallica fan, but I used to be. Pantera, I love. I'm a huge metal head, and Slayer, Megadeth and Pantera are the 3 bands I love. I don't like James' voice, or anything after the black album.

And, Vinnie Paul makes Lars Ulrich look like a joke... but then... SO DO I (Lars = worst drummer... EVER) I dunno, maybe I don't like him cause he plays the same beat all the time, fakes his double kick (double tracked) and bitches about stupid ****.

The only thing Metallica has over Pantera, is their bassists. Rex is a decent bassist, but he's got nothing on Cliff, or Jason.

YOU SUCK NOW.

I hate Lars Ulrich, he's a jackass. He wears a flipping fur coat. I'm not opposed to killing furry animals(sry charas furries), but it makes you look like a pussy. And since looking at his face is like looking into Jack Black's asshole to begin with, it's not helping him. Vinnie Paul and Dimebag are super great musicians, and at least Pantera knows how to write a fucking song.
I'M MADLY IN ANGER WITH YOU is not a freaking lyric, it's a poop in a **** coating.
Pantera may have started as glam metal but they ended up all techniquey.

simple plan and good charlotte are pop rock not punk.punk is like my chemical romance, taking back sunday, green day, all american rejects, the offspring, and bowling for soup.

I didn´t say I like Lars! Everyone, ever his parents, hate him bad! I don´t think he´s a bad player, that no way, but he´s the worst!

But you can't say Kirk and James suck!

I'm sorry, but I must bump this for something stupid.

Someone once said, after I registered on a forum:
"Welcome, Shitonaballsack!"

Edit: And, for the record, everything's Mr mister's fault. I mean, come on. He farted and the big bang happened.
