Title: Sitars
Post by: Seth Mitchell on December 19, 2005, 02:23:54 AM
Well, I am getting a sitar for christmas and I want people who know what they are, have one, or know how to play tell me stuff about them.

All I really know is that they make a sound that reminds me of a desert or Arabian theme. That's cool that you're getting one though. I think they are held in an upright position while sitting down and the strings are plucked to play. That's about all of my knowledge of sitars.

Don't like them. The sound they make lasts too long, meaning notes end up overlapping, which I don't like.

They are REALLY hard to play.

Holy Carp......A sitar......those are beautifull and expensive....
And I thought my mandolin was cool.....

freakin awesome man.....

I got a care package full of groceries, and I thought that was a pimped gift......

How does a sitar tune? Have you played one before, or are you crash course-ing it? Man, Id love to tech myself how to  play sitar...

A sitar sure makes my Jimbe's look meager, when I glance at them....

I love the sound of a sitar. Mebe it's because I've got a love for what some have refered to as "hippie music". Maybe it's because I have a "natural high" that can be confused with a genuine one. Or maybe it has something to do with its soothing melodies and how great stringed instruments are. One way or another, I enjoy the sitar. Play on, oh mighty player! Wow. That almost sounded as bad as a similar comment I made involving comics and communists... How DO I do it?

Listen to this man.

Itīs a beautiful instrument, used a lot in Indian music. I love how it sounds.

As Mr.Mr. said, itīs hard to play. It has 10 times more scales than the piano. But itīs sound makes it worth the try.

I saw an amazing sitar playing in Concert for George, a tribute made to Gerge Harrison, organized by the nothingman ERIC CLAPTON...It rocked as$!

Bluhman, nowhere else to say this, but the line is 'time for me is nothing cause I'm counting no age.'

If I remember, it's either a Shimasen (SP?) or Kyoto.
