Title: Computer knowledgists and otherwise
Post by: Razor on December 19, 2005, 11:16:58 AM
So, I've got my new computer. Yay.
Now, is there anyway I can go about transferring my data from me old computer to my new one, keeping in mind there is no network. They are however using the same DSL Modem, and I don't want to spend the rest of the night getting all my [STRIKE]porn[/STRIKE] files off by using the burn to CD/transfer by USB Stick techniques.

Try emailing it to yourself (if you have Gmail it's easier, as you can do it in one go).

Alternatively, get on MSN on both computers and send it to yourself.

*Insert old Hard Drive* *copy wanted files to new Hard Drive* *remove old Hard Drive*
Of course, you can leave your old in it, that's what I did.

Thatīs right Razor. Take your old HD and put it in the new PC! Put it as an slave, nad youīll have extra space! If someone is gonna use the old PC, just transfer the data and give the HD back.

Remember to take out the jumper it has, before putting it in the computer, otherwise it wonīt recognize it...

What are the specs of the new machine anyway?

Well, I can't exactly do the Hard Drive thing, due to the over protective nature of Mother and other. And the MSN thing would take all day. The GMail might be woth a shot though.
Thanks guys.
And Almeidaboo, I'll spec you up as soon as I find the piece of paper with all the info.

You also can look the specs up in the system info, located in the control panel right?

You can also upload the whole stuff to  this site (http://www.yousendit.com)  and then download it again.

Still, I think you should wait to your parents to take a walk and...

Kidding, just do it if you know how, cause you may break it or hurt yourself (Iīm 21 godammit, I canīt give bad advices...)

2 GB. If you instal Doom 3, don't plan on anything else. Doom 3 takes up 1.5 gig if I remember it correctly.

Not getting 200 Gig full. Hahaha! I can get it full with ease. Still I allways make sure there's 10 GB of space left to let it run smooth.

I had a social studies teacher named 'Mr. Newcomb'.
It was pronunced Nukem. When he pointed to the map I asked him where the Planet of the Babes was. I was the only one who got the joke.

Km is making reading this thread like an acid trip for me...

Regardless, my computer falls just a bit short of your specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz processor
2 GB of RAM
80 Gig Harddrive
ATI Radeon 9200se 128 MB Graphics Card

Well, okay, only my RAM really beats yours, but I bet mine cost less. :P

And it's a good thing I have that much, too. My computer would probably fry otherwise when running FL Studio, Flash, and Fireworks all at once.

Portable HD did its work when i transferred. Also now we have a network.

Half offtopic, filling 200gig shouldnt be hard since just a little while ago I filled mine, not much stuff at all and only 116 gig. (Lousy cheap parents won the small thing in a friggin SLOGAN CONTEST)

btw specs

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
3.2 gHz
GeForce 4 titanium graphic card
1024 mB RAM

does the job :D along with a 8 meg internet connection

My computer has a fan on the CPU, a fan in the back, and a special tube-thing that funnels air straight from the CPU to the outside of the computer. Tre' nifty.

I would post my specs if I knew where to find them all.
Title: Heeey... Can you guys bum me a couple of thousand U.S. dollars?
Post by: Archem on December 22, 2005, 06:23:52 AM
I got a laptop. Yay! But my mom chose all the specs. Booh... So she went for price efficiency, thus leaving me with a dreadful lappy. And yet, it can still play Half-Life 2with only a somewhat excess amount of lag, despite it sucking so bad. So much stuff feels below HL2's minimum requirements, but I guess it ain't. Anywho, I feel the terrors of integrated graphics, a 18.6 GB hard drive (I assume it's a 20 GB, but it says 18.6), and 256 MB of RAM. Not at all what I want from my computer. Oh well... Maybe I can get a better one for Christmas next year if I keep it under $1000. I've seen some pretty good ones for $600 and up. I was surprised at that. Or I could get a job... nah. But at least it has a wireless network card. Yay internet! And in my room, no less! But what scares me most is that I get unbearable lag from Doom. Yes, Doom. The first one. The MS DOS one. From, like, 1994. Worse than Half-Life 2. Scary. And such an example is why DarkFlood and I call it Satan's computer, or something to that extent.

I got 6044 on that test. The higher the better or the lower the better?
Title:
Post by: Razor on December 23, 2005, 12:14:56 PM
Yikes. That's freaking awful, Drace. The higher, the much better.

And Archem, I want you to run that test. You should score a horribly low score, and then tell us, and then we'll all laugh.

Yes, I cry whenever I think about how poor this thing is. Oops. Here I go again. Be back in a minute.

Ok then. Yeah. We still can't figure out how Half-Life 2 works on this thing, but it does, and it even manages to keep up (almost) with DarkFlood's brother's higher end computer. And we don't know how.
