Title: Bad day (I'm over it)

During the 3+ years I've worked at this job, cellular sales, I've been able to put up with the most ignorant and braindead people I've ever met. I've also had to handle those messy customer service situations, getting screamed at (and I mean scream) or cursed out, all the while still able to maintain my composure and reply to the customer in a respectable manner.

This day has just sucked, dealing with this lady for two hours, from open to about noon. I don't know why people feel the need to yell at me, seeing as it does not motivate me to assist them with their problem, but instead does the exact opposite.

I will highlight our 2hour exchange with smilies:

To note, I had nothing to do with this customer previously. This is my first running with her.

Well this lady decided to blame me for everything wrong and she wanted to argue about everything. I try to explain Cingular's billing procedure to her, and she says I'm wrong. and proceeds to tell me how I should bill her.

She says she doesn't want to pay for someone else's mistake. Working here for three years, I knew better, and after the resolution of the initial problem (which could have been resolved in less than 20 minutes had she cooperated with me) it was clear that my assessment was correct: she gave the employee the erroneous information to have caused the problem.

They leave. I continue my day, trying to smile like always, but not being as convincing or genuine about it as I normally am. I'm with a customer, helping him pick out an accessory, when I get a call.

I talk with her a little, then she decides to yell again. At this point I go silent. That doesn't happen, unless I'm physically restraining myself. I wonder what I would have said if I didn't need this job.

The customer I was with before receiving this call heard the whole thing. He decided it would be best to come back a little later and told me then that I was shaking when I got off the phone.

I can't seem to fake a smile like I normally do, and it is noticeable to the customers (a few have commented). My day has gone from decent to ****-fest.

I don't even know why I posting about it, so I'm just gonna stop typing and pray this day end quicker. For the love of God, don't get a job in sales unless you want to be a jaded mess.


Short Version: Shitty customer ruins my day, I might rip her a new one if I hear from one more time today.

Yes, it can be mistaken for such. But no, it is a fact. In the 3 years I've worked here the customer's I've dealt with have been decent and understanding. Even the few that have been bad tempered have found my composure to be relaxing, and calmed themselves down.

However, the times (plural) that I have been cussed out,  :yell:ed at, or severely http://www.geocities.com/llvllerlin/emot-nyd.gifed at have all been, notibly, black people. Perhaps its not racist, but simply stereotypical, for which you can't really blame me.

Edit: The employee that is supposed to relieve me is a no-show. "Sick" I believe is her excuse. The relief for her is late - he decided to stop at another store and start selling. Hence, here I am, an hour after I was supposed to be off. Not too bad, since in these instances, I simply announce to customers that I am off.

It could be racism, or it could be the fact that a stereotype is created when a similar pattern of behavior is exhibited in several different people.

It's not his fault if a startling majority of customers who give him trouble are black.

Yes, I'm not racist, but I support that most people that have problems with things and yell obserdly about those problems are black. It's like their voice was programmed for long-term shout offs and cussing *looks at several rapper*

I know the feeling dude. I was once babysitting a girl that wanted to do a lemonade stall, and she was just selling the stuff when a black guy comes up, buys a drink, takes a sip, tastes it, spits it out, and starts bitching about how it doesn't taste right. I offered to give him a refund, but he still keep bitching.... If it was a resturant or something I could see why he would be mad to get crap for money, but this was just a little girl for chirst's sake!

And that is also a true statment. Each race has their own social gifts and problems.... maybe that's not the right way to word is, but you get my point.

Meh. I'm used to racism. All my friend's dad's are racist. XP I hate living in Louisiana.

And, if phones would allow you to put your body through them like on the cartoons (yes, I'm a near-15-year-old who still watches cartoons), I'd beat the crap out of her.

I'm not really used to racism. I do know someone who is racist, but there's something that I don't understand...
He had problem with black people a long time ago and that's why he hate all of theme... However, he had problem with white people too... but he still only hate black people...

For some people, if a black person do something stupid, they'll say something like : ''I'm not surprise, he's black, after all.'' but if a white person do something stupid, they'll say something like : ''He's just dumb.''

I have a friend who's black, and he's nice. I never had a problem with him. However, I saw some black people messing around, but I still don't hate them. It's not like all of them act like that. White people act dumb sometime too.

It doesent really appear in one race more than the other. Its just its looked into more in some races >.>. Mainly blacks/minorities...anyone non-white.

That is what's wrong with the world right there. no one should be used to it, but there will always be racists & racism. Until i find a way to get them all into one place.. MUAHAHAHAHA!! Until then all there is is tolerance (complete bullshit)

I'm black I will say it too: Black people do yell too damn much. And working people can't yell back, but I don't have a job... hehehe!! And employed people also know that you can't just punch someone in the face. I'd probably just go into the back.

Bad day got a little better when I got home. But now its not so cool again.

My video card has been acting up for a while, crashing on my mother when she tries to play The Sims (she likes building the houses). At first it was just inconvenient, but not it happens within 10 minutes of loading the game.

Just Saturday, I installed and tried to play "Bonnie's Bookstore" by Popcap games (its a very low graphics utilizing puzzle game. I mean like 2D stuff) and it crashed again.

This isn't computer crashing. This is VPU crashing. The video card crashed! That is some crazy stuff. It will try to render the game in software mode, but the game usually hangs up after that, requiring me to press the soft reset button on the computer (not good, but all I can do).

I just looked at all my information. I bought this card a year and five days ago to the date. Heres to hoping the warranty will still cover my card :|

Well, of course it will get better. :)
The only way it would bother me is if I just dwelled on it forever. But, no, telling the customer service horror story to a few people helped. My dad says that he thinks about me and my brother (he has his stories too) before he makes a stink about something to an employee.

I've submitted a ticket to ATI. Will probably get an answer within a day or two.

It would suck if they said they couldn't do anything. I never got to test my card on any heavy graphics game to enjoy my purchase to it's full potential, which I dropped a nice penny on for a college student.

I disowned a "friend" for being racist and pretty much stabbing me in the back. A few months ago he had the nerve to contact me like we were "cool" after all the crap he said to me. Meh. I hate it and I put my foot down. I'm not going to be friends with a guy who'll likely attack my other friends of different culture. He already hated Canadians, now he seems to hate the colored races too blaming all the country's problems on them.

I say to him "meh" if I see him again it'll be too soon.

He was never really a true friend after we got old, he was more of a "I'm right, your wrong" kind of character. Though in the earlier days we were good, I don't know what happened but I no longer want any part of it. I talked to him, he was like a brick wall and I said "Ok, you want to be like this? Fine, but I'm out of here."

Edit: Since when did Razor become Kijuki? O.o... or is it the other way around?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, when most people call the racism card it is simply because they are usually to ignorant to realize the differences in hating for a preset reason and stating what one percieves. Say you watch 30 murder suspect arrests on the news and 14 are black, 10 are mexican and 6 are white. When you are watching the 31st arrest, if you are to assume that the suspect will be black thats not racist, simply creating an assumption based on previously gathered facts. Now, some old white guy with a corncob pipe saying "All black people are garbage"...................... yeah, he might be a racist.

He means that,while we have different amounts of pigment in our skin, we are still blood and guts on the inside. I honestly have no idea why racists exist.. It's completely illogical. I wait for the day when we are all a sickly shade of grey. Until then, why can't everyone pretend to like each other?

Well, video card problems may be fixed as far as games go. But it seems I have switched the vpu crashes for another problem.

Turns out, the entire Radeon 9600 line seems to be having all kinds of problems. There are some websites that offer solutions to some problems. My solution involved changing some BIOS settings, installing the latest drivers and MMC software from ATI's website, the latest version of DirectX 9.0, and then disabling "VPU Recovery" in the new CCC.

After all that, my mom was finally able to play The Sims without interruption until she was tired. I know what your thinking, "All that just so you can play The Sims!?" Well for some reason, The Sims is the only game that was causing me so much trouble. Everything else worked fine, but my poor mother couldn't play her favorite game for more than 5 minutes before it would crash on her.

But, now I'm having trouble with the audio. I have an All-In-Wonder card (TV tuner). There is a plug that supplies the audio from the TV to to the microphone/line-in jack on the sound card. This worked fine before, but now I get an image with full-blast static.

I'm thinking motherboard drivers (since its an onboard sound card), but if that doesn't work, I'm stumped.

And, of course, there is the issue of my 2.9GHz processor now clocking at a nice 2.20GHz at POST when it used to clock at 2.6GHz previously. I think the solution here may lie with upgrading my BIOS, which I'm not sure I want to do. :|
