Ok, I am very happy to be hosting this and saying the MIDI contest is on! Thank you carmen. :) Ok, here are the rules:
- Like the map contest, don't use anything already made for your game or someone else's game. Make something new.
- Another rule straight from the map contest, one MIDI per category, and no resubmitting. Go for as many as you can.
- One more thing from the mapping competition, the MIDI must made by you, though I think that is kind of obvious.
- The MIDI should be at least 50 seconds in length. This can include an introduction (e.g. famous Final Fantasy battle introduction).
- And last but not least, HAVE FUN!
Ok, the categories: (Yes this is a lot like the mapping contest.)
- Battle
- Boss
- Final Boss
- World Map
- Town (this includes every kind of town)
- Indoor Dungeon (e.g. cave)
- Outdoor Dungeon (e.g. forest)
- Situational Themes
- Song (yes, going outside of RPGs here. Note: you may use an already created song here, asked for by drenrin, and I think that makes sense)
AGAIN like the map contest, this will go on for probably a couple weeks.
And the judges: Me (coasterkrazy), carmen and Meiscool
From the map contest again (last time I swear), PM me if you have questions.
Finally, let the contest begin!
-
Sweet. I'll definitely be entering in this when I find some spare time.
EDIT: Can we use already made songs for the "Song's outside RPGs" category? Because the oens I have in mind weren't made for my RPG. If not, that's okay, I'll just have to get crackin'.
-
Me too. Keep this contest going on for at least 2 weeks.

Yeah, I suppose that's ok. I'll edit it in the first post.
-
Very nice, thanks CK.
Then I guess I'll submit my first entry. I actually made this one yesterday. Took me a while, but I like it a lot.
Category - Songs
Name - If It Were Up To Me
Length - 4:42
Description - Nothing really to say. Yesterday kinda sucked when it comes to "charma", so I felt like writing a song. All my plans kept getting fuckered up and I ended up doing ntohing all day but chores, thus the name. :D
-
can I have all of entries!!! You know, for personal reasons?
-
wow...nice drenrin I like it
-
1) I would like to enter, but I need a program.
2) I would to judge.
-
I'm on it.
-
I'd love to judge, as I wanted to judge the Mapping comp, but Robotam insitted that I be in it to compete with him.
-
Here is mine for the "Songs" category.
Basically, if you want information on it, I've got it posted in the "Outcasts of High School" thread in the Creative Arts section.

Have you considered Anvil Studio? That's what I use.
About judging, I'm not sure how many there could be. I was thinking three was a good number, but both you and Meiscool said you would like to. Do you two think you can decide on something? Even if it comes down to being four judges, I suppose that would be alright. There aren't that many competing thus far, so I would like to see some more competing. I'll let you two decide.
-
Meh. I dunno how we'll deside... other then through talking.
-
Ok, I'm in. Give me a few days to compose a song or two.
-
Uh oh...Attachment bug again...
-
I did a test in the test and welcome board. It seems to work fine for me.
-
What about a theme catagory, as in the main theme of a game, like the prelude, and all ff games.
-
Yes, I was thinking about that but the problem is that "themes" is too wide of a category. That could go anywhere from characters to titles to credits. If you really want to make one for something like that, it could go under situational themes I guess. I mean, they are still technically situations.
-
Here's a modern one. Kind of Techno-ish.
Category - Final Boss
Name - 5 Million
Length - 3:22
Description - I called it 5 million because there's probably more than a million things going through a players head during the Final Boss fight. And it sounds like a cool name.
-
Ok, through much not talking or conversing in any form, Drace and I have desided that I should be the judge and not him.
That said, begin!
-
You are an idiot, ha, ha ha haha.
-
I made this song tuesday, I was gonna use it as a sit. theme, but its more of a song catagory, because I played it with my band today. The title is inspired by my game.
Catagory-Songs
Name-The Norain Dancer
Length-1:36
Description-A song I wrote Tuesday, I have lyrics for it here, I may play it in my gig saturday night.
-
Category - World Map
Name - Free Runner
Length - 1:39
Description - A Jazzy little world map song. Not much more to say about it other than it loops fine.
-
Category - Boss Theme
Name - Power Bomb
Length - 1:16
Description - Not one of my best works, if you ask me, but a suitable Boss Theme.
-
Everything's sounding great. Keep it up!
I hope more people enter. Hey, if you don't consider yourself a great MIDImaker but can write stuff, give it a shot here! All are welcome!
-
Category - Situational Theme
Name - In Peace
Length - 2:48
Description - I really wasn't sure of a catagory for this one, but situational theme works best. If anything, it's more of a character theme, but that's just my opinon. The sections are really short, though, especially the violin solo and the last part. I would have added more, but the peice I really wanted to put in the violin solo wasn't working too great in the time signature and chord progressions.
-
Category - Town
Name -Japanese Town (Re-Make)
Length -1:18
Description-Town midi
-
Category - Final Boss?
Name - Hearts And Minds
Lenght - 1:54

-
Category: Indoor Dungeon-Cave
Name: Unknown Cave
Length:1:32
Description: Makes ya thik what culd hapend
-
Category - Situation Theme
Name - The New Dawn
Length - 1:15
Description - A MIDI you can use when something dramatic is about to happen or something evil is coming. Or maybe an intro.
-
Nice to see some more MIDIs in. :) Well, I've decided on a definite deadline. February 1st. It seems no more people are really entering, so I'm just going to give some more time for people to finish up more MIDIs if they want. The only way the deadline will be extended is if a bunch of more people want to enter or people ask for more time.
-
Category - Outside Dungeon
Name - Snow Forest
Length - 0:54
Description - One of my shorter ones, but I still like it. In my opinion it fits a snowy forest just fine.
-
I think I can make another one before then.
-
Category - Town
Name - Mountain Village
Length - 0:55
Description - A theme for a mountain town, very laid back. Good for even a snow town.
-
Does it have to be MIDI format? Cause mine is mp3.
-
Well... if I remember correctly, the thread is called : MIDI Contest. So, I guess it needs to be a MIDI.
-
Category- Outdoor Dungeon-Forest
Name- Forest
Length- 1:06
Description- Regular Forest
-
Situational: Miner's Salute
Length: 0:42 (1:25 because of loop)
This would be used for a Mine.
-
Town: Nekido
Length: 1:07 (without loop)
This is just a town theme.
-
Outdoor Dungeon: Forest of the Spirits
Length: 1:21 (no loop)
It's a forest theme I thought out on the piano a couple years ago, but I only recently put it into MIDI format.
-
Indoor Dungeon: Twisted Castle
Length: 1:01 (without loop)
It's a bizarre castle theme.
-
World Map: Upon the World
Length: 1:49 (without loop)
It's a world map theme.
-

Yeah, sorry Rev, but Cerebus is right. I could've changed it in the beginning but it's kind of late now. MP3s can do more than MIDIs so it would be kind of unfair. :| Sorry.
-
Category - Inside Dungeon
Name - Evil Castle
Length - 0:58
Description A nice little evil castle MIDI. It's pretty fast paced, but you could definitely slow it down in rm2k/2/xp if you wanted to mellow it out a little.
-
Category- World Map
Name- In the Mist
Length- 1:09
Description- Sounds good for a World Map.
-
When is this over, because this contest is like almost dead?
-

A song showing that piano can be spiffy!

-
Category- Timed Event

When does this *ahem* end?
-
I say we should end it early, any disagrements? Though that might be bad for some of those planning on sneaking one in last minute and haven't logged on at all today.
-
Well, it's over now. I'll post scores over the weekend, probably tomorrow.
-
sweetnerness
-
Well, I did have another song I was working on, but I've been in a musical slump lately, so whatever.
-
You can still submit it if you want. I was just saying that I'm starting judging this weekend.
-
Sorry for the double post, but I finished judging. The verdicts have been made, and here they are. This was hard to do, because so many were really good, and they were in good competition.
F.Y.I. – The following scores are based on originality, creativity, instrument choice and usage (like how well they fit together), how well the song suits the situation, how well the song keeps a beat and other little things that I would just confuse myself and others to try to explain.

-
V_V thanks for telling me it was over guys.
y'know it's cool
i was just A JUDGE
-
I'm sorry. :( I was going to PM you but then I was just thinking you would check the thread or something. Yeah, that was really dumb on my part, I should have just PMed you... sorry.
-
I'm currently listening to them, but because of the length of them all, and because they all sound like crap (jk), I need to give myself rests between listening to them so much, thus it will take awhile.
-
Um... I hate to topic kick, but... what happened?
-
We finished it and that's it?
-
o.o I thought it was over.
Did I miss it something.
Yes, yes I think i did. >.<
Coaster, just pick a winner
or er...winners. i dunno how ur doing this
XD
-
I'm to lazy to listen to them all. Drace, you can have your spot as a judge back.
-
Uh... I already judged on the last page... but I guess not everyone saw it, so here it is again:

EDIT: In other words, dren won. Yeah, even though WingZero I think won more things, I just think drenrin was the best overall.
-
Well, sweetness! :D Good job you guys, especially you Wing Zero, I liked your MIDIs alot. Gave me a run for my money.
-
I listend to a few, and of them, I thought dren's were the best too, so you see, even if I did listen to them all, the outcome would've been the same.
BTW Drace, I'm still waiting to see how you judged the people's midis.
-
I'm a contesty you doofus. Can't judge.
