Title: All Music, All Rock
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 02, 2006, 11:38:11 PM
So, what's your favorite bands? Are you even into rock? It's very simple, discuss bands, songs, concerts, guitarists. Heard any undiscovered talent lately? Then do tell. I'll start...

My favorite band is a welsh band, Lostprophets. They've made it big in the UK and with their coming album and new single, I think they're gonna be one of the first UK bands to really rock the US. I just love them that much. Anyone ever heard of them?

Other bands I like:

Offspring
Smile Empty Soul
Three Doors Down
Sublime(It's more Raegge/ska, but w/e)
Greenday

Yeah, I love music threads.

I´m only into rock. And almost all of it´s expansions. But, if I had to say a favourite genre, i´d be stuck with  Hybrid Punk-Metal rock (Offspring), Grunge, Hard rock and "Silverchair".

I say "Silverchair" as a genre cause they´re a band apart the others. Daniel Johns is a genius lyric writer and musician (not guitarrist, watch what i´m saying). Silverchair can be fit in some genres, but each album in one (Frogstomp would be grunge, Freak Show would be hard rock and so on).

Other than Silverchair my favs are Offspring, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Soundgarden, Less than Jake, Green DAy etc

My fav instrument would be the guitar, and that´s why i´m so damn fascinated by rock. I said DJ ain´t a guitar genius when he actually is, but I said that because my favourite guitarrists are Kirk Hammet (Metallica) and Kim Thatyl (sp?) from Soundgarden...

Best drummers...well, I guess I´d say Tre Cool (Green Day) or that guy from Dream Theatre. I like Lars Ulrich too (Metallica), but he´s such an arse...

Bassist...I´d go with Flea. And Greg K, from Offspring.

EDIT1: Yeah, Lost Prophets. I like em, though I liked them much more when they came around and there was that explosion around them...now, taking a closer look at them, I´d say they´re a regular band, with nothing much special. Still, a nice band. Try Finger ELeven, they´re more...they´re more. And Breaking Benjamin, cause they don´t scream that much.

EDIT2: ABout screaming, best 2005 song, to me, would be Scream, by Slipknot. I´m not really into them, that they ruled on that song.

I'll give you Urge Overkill, but the VU is one of the most influential bands of the 60's. I really could care less about their hits, every single of their songs is a work of art. Have you ever heard "The Murder Mystery"? "Sister Ray"?

What I like? Classic rock, metal, black metal, and some death metal, classical, shred, video game music... really anything that sounds good to me. I also like a lot of 80s music. A few bands to sum up what I listen to:

Mayhem
Satyricon
Dimmu Borgir (older stuff)
Slayer (Seasons in the Abyss and earlier)
Pantera
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Lynard Skynard
REM
Depeche Mode
Steve Vai
Nine Inch Nails
Shadows Fall
In Flames

Yeah... I dont really like a lot of nu metal bands and all these trendy punk **** people. Slipknot, Im become less and less of a fan, Atreyu sucks, Good Charlet (yes I spelled it wrong) sucks, Marylin Manson sucks, The Used sucks, My Chemical Romance Sucks, HIM sucks, System of a Down sucks, and Matchbox Romance sucks. I could go on, I think I'll stop myself before I make people angry.

Main thing I don't like about Manson is how easily his message is misinterpreted by stupid mall goths. He makes quite a few references to Nietzsche on Mechanical animals. The majority of the album talks of the lack individuality and emotionless life that mdern society imposes, but people can't get past the morbid imagery and analogies.

For me, If I hear a song by a band, and I like it, it doesn't mean I like the band. Like crossfade for instance, their song Cold, was alright. I heard alot of their other stuff and I didn't like it too much. But when I heard Colors, god, I love that song. But their other songs (the ones I've heard) are crap to me.

Heh, a topic I could like. I firstly want to point out that I'm going to ignore allmost everything Asakura says, cause we have way different taste. Second, I'm not going to bash bands etc..
With that said, my taste is:

Pop-rock, Rock 'n Roll, Punk Rock, Rock, Hard Rock, 80's Hard Rock + subgenres, Metal, British metal, some Death Metal, some other loud Metal.

In my list, you'll find several goth bands. Take note, I'm not a Goth Rock fan. These are allmost all/all Dutch Goth bands and they sound more metal than Goth ****. Also, I only like Slipknot's latest album.

Remember, this is my general list. Not my favourites. There are some of which I only like 5 songs and there are some of which I like allmost all songs.

- 7Zuma7
- Aerternitas
- After Forever

- Agrésion
- Alien Ant Farm
- All For Nothing
- Altar
- Angra
- Apocalyptica

My favorite music doesn't have words to be honest. I'm not saying I don't like a lot of what you all just mentioned. There are only two categories that I can think of that definitely (or I'm pretty sure) have nothing I like - rap and country. But anyway, my real favorites range from from classical stuff the good composers did (and I don't mean the elevator music classical, I mean the good classical), and honestly, lots of old video game soundtracks. I seriously think they can keep a beat better than a lot of todays music.

The Offspring
System of a Down
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
AC/DC
Ozzy Osbourne (and Black Sabbath)
Van Halen (Not "Van Hagar")
Guns 'n Roses
Rush
Metallica (Well, only some of it)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
And some Blink 182 (I don't care what you say, some songs are gold.)

Then there are various others, but I don't feel like looking them up right now, since I know most of them by song, not artist.

On a seperate note, have you noticed that "Jew" is an acronym for "Jimmy Eat World" ?

Dude, I've called Jimmy Eat World 'JEW' since they came out, thank you!.  I', also a big fan of calling the Presidents of the United States of America 'POT USA'.

For all the Metallica  on people's lists, I find the lack of Megadeth disturbing.  Dave Mustaine is my rock hero.   The dude can shred circles around either Metallica guitarist (which says a lot, considering Hammet is a Satch alumnus).  And bonus points to anyone who got into Static-X before Queen of the Damned.

No one's talking about concerts here. So I'll do that.

I have seen live in no particular order:
Aerosmith - those dudes can still rock!
Andrew W. K. - opened for Aerosmith, that dude puts on a pretty cool live show for having such bland music
Mesugah(or something) - too much incoherent screaming and I think the drummer only used the bass drums.
Tool - Let's just call that show mind expanding.  Justin Chancellor is a bass god.
Disturbed (pre-Beleive) - It may be numetal, but they put on a fairly decent show.
Korn (post Untouchables) - They may have been awesome for the first 2 albums, but by the time I saw em they kinda sucked
Deftones - Overhyped and disapointing
Mudvayne - 45min of screaming, double bass, and over overdriven guitar.  This makes me sad.
Linkin Park - I just don't get their appeal
Limp Bizkit - Only cause they opened for Metallica!  These dudes suck worse than most people know.
Metallica (x2) (post rehab and post Newstead) - They still know how to rock, but James is too lovey during his between song banter.  During the '03 show he actually did a cheer that we do at boy scout camp.  Plus, Newstead is my biggest bass influence, so the whole Trujillo thing makes me mad
Megadeth (post TSHF) - Probably the best show I've been too.  Even with only one real member Megadeth just blows me away.
Exodus - Opened for Megadeth.  They rock pretty hard, but I hate their current singer.
Static-X (x3) - While I'm not too keen on numetal, these guys are really on to something.  This whole evil disco thing is real cool.  These guys are also my pet band in that I had WDT before anyone I knew heard of them.  Their live shows are INTENSE to say the least.
Soil (x2) - Their albums are pretty stock, but the dudes put on a hell of a live show.
Tim McGraw - It was free, I was 14ish, I regret it, gimme a break.

And lots and lots of local bands!  Particular shout outs to Black September and Mad Gone Mad.  Keep an eye out for The Pirate Punk Revolution!

I've seen Finger 11 in concert, it was a free show, they were pretty good

And Slipknot (with As I lay Dying and UnEarth) that show kicked ***. I don't care if some people hate Slipknot, they're frickin awesome live. They have way more energy then on their cds, and the vocals are fuckin perfect.

Yeah, man.  You gotta get a tour shirt, they're like badges of honor!  The only tour shirt I didn't get was Metallica's right after seeing Some Kind of Monster.  I was a little upset with them after that.  *grumbles* Newstead not an icon my *** . . .

Most bands I'd pay for concert tickets are either dead, broken up, or rarely tour. I remember one time Blue Oyster Cult came to Co, and I was about 20 dollars short and no one'd loan me.

I have phases of listening to only one band. I had a Nirvana phase a few months ago, then a system phase, now a Pink Floyd phase. Wish you were here is a damn good album, but I forgot about A momentary Lapse of Reason which I really like as well. Plus Dark side of the moon, of course.

I prefer the final cut.

Yeah, the final Cut was pretty much the last good Floyd album, after Waters left it wasn't really Floyd anymore.  No offense to Gilmoure, but post Cut was a bit too 80s new wave for me.  You need to get Meddle for the real good stuff.

I like new wave, but I don't like any later Floyd.
