Title: X-BOX 360
Post by: neb87 on February 21, 2006, 06:54:44 AM
Is the X-BOX 360 really worth the 399.00 dollers or should i wait for bigger and better things to buy?

It depends. Some of the games it has are really fun, but most of the fun comes from the multiplayer on those games, like DOA 4 or Call of Duty 2. But soon more single player games will be coming out, like Oblivion (OMFGONAFODINIAFNIGWANTITNOWINEEDIT), which would enhance the single player aspect.

If you're willing to wait a bit longer for the second wave of games for it, then you might enjoy the 360, but as it stands, you could buy an older console and a bunch of games for it and have fun with that (Like I did when I got a Gamecube for Christmas).

I, personally, would use the $399 to upgrade my PC. One could allocate that money to any array of things to make their PC perform better. Memory + Video Card, Mobo + CPU, etc. But, as I get older I become less enchanted by consoles, so that may be why I lean in this direction.

No, its not worth that much. Then again, I'm really cheap. I buy systems when they're $150, and I buy used games. Up till about 6 months ago the only games I ever bought were used ps1 games. They cost $5-$15, and I find them to be just as enjoyable as a new ps2 game. Then now that there are hardly any ps1 games for sale anymore, I start buying used ps2 games. Its so much cheaper.

So yeah, don't waste your money on buying a new system. Wait till the price goes down. Plus a lot of times new systems have bugs in them and aren't worked out till later.

300 dollars is my limit. I think above that price for a video game system is plain stupid. So, i rather wait a year or so until it lowers.

NO! The XBOX 360 you can buy for 299, but that will only play 360 games (No regular) and lacks an internal memory. But for 399 you can get one with a harddrive, but even then it will only play MAYBE 1/3rd of the original XBOX games.

Hell yeah! Oblivion is gonna rock.
Anyways, I think the 360 is worth it. So far, I've been loving mine- but only get it if you can get Xbox Live.

That one is kinda a rip off. it comes with no form of memory, so you're gonna have to buy a memory card. Also, if you plan to play online, you'll need a headset. The $400 package is much better deal.

Whole XBOX period is a ripoff. But one of those 5-in-1 game things they have. If you are a true gamer you will find so much more enjoyment from those. I have XD

The memory card is $40. So, that's sixty dollars. For $40 more, You can buy a Premium system where you get a TON more memory, a headset, plus other extra's for xbox live.

Call of Duty 1 was the only war game I ever got into. But that's kind of off topic. In my opinion, get a skateboard, or a hackey sack, or somethin'. It's a lot cheaper and provides hours of endless entertainment!

Hmm, I'm just going to wait 6 years until they make an x-box 360 emulator. Thats the way to go.

You know whats odd, I have an n64 right next to my monitor. I have a tv tuner so I can watch tv and such or play my n64 on my 19 inch lcd monitor. I still prefer to download games that I own and play them on my computer with an emulator. I guess its because the fact that I can save and load games any time, aka cheat. I know, I'm a cheater. Plus I always like to play my games at 100 - 200 fps, playing them at normal speeds just seems slow now.

DragonBlaze, I already ranted about this to you once before, just because you own the game does NOT make it legal to download them, despite what emulation sites may claim. Just live with the fact that you are already breaking the law and go all in.  ;)

Yep. It's a common mis-belif. But, quite frankly, who really gives a damn? ;)
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on February 22, 2006, 03:41:57 AM
Yeah, I don't believe emulator site crap, but I've bought a gameshark type thing that came with a program that allows you to burn sega ROMs that are playable on a ps2 with an emulator they include. In the instruction manual, they say that you must download the roms, but you can only download roms of games you own. Then they have a big long document on the law pertaining to that. So yeah, unless products are able to make up laws like that and sell them nationwide, ROMs are legal to download. Its legal to have a backup of you games, how you get that backup isn't really the issue. At least the laws on older games such as the snes and sega are like that, ones for newer games are probably differant.

I am interested though on where you heard about it being illigal. So if you have a link to a site that has it, or if you can point me in the right dirrection, I'd very much appreciate it. :) So until I see evidence of it being illigal, I'm just going to go under the assumtion that it is legal.

You see, this is how it works. You walk into the store and you ask for an XBOX360. They get excited, but then they spy your handful of cash.
"You do want the dexule version right?" You look down into the floor, look around and whisper to the clerk, "No, actually, I can only afford the cheap one." The clerk's eyes narrow with disgust. He casually grabs the microphone and says in an nonchalant voice  "Hey Rick! Can you bring one of the INFERIOR Xbox packs to Isle 3?" You cringe. You slowly look around to the people in your line behind you. The way they stare at you is no different than if you had grabbed the mic yourself and told the store you were a pedophile. Over the system, a voice asks "What was it, and what isle?"
INFERIOR XBOX PACK. ISLE 3. People walking around the store, and in the adjacent isles are now staring at you, while you can do nothing but smile akwardly. Some other store clerk comes along with your pack, slams it down onto the counter, all the while giving you the evil eye.
"That'll be $299," he says as he snatches your $300. He gives you a reciept, and the guy behind you pushes you out of the line. You turn to ask "Hey, don't I get a dollar back?" He sneers in reply, "That would be part of the XBOX360 tax" before turning around, all smiles and roses to the next person in line. As you leave the store, you can hear him say "Is that the XBOX360 pack? Great choice, sir. Here, have a balloon!"

On your way home, you get a flat tyre. Twice. When you get there, you find a jet engine has landed in your bedroom, through your roof. You get a call, your grandmother has had a heart attack and is in hospital. Your friends seemingly stop calling you, and there is only 2 or 3 people on your MSN list, and they're always away. Usually you have upwards of 150 people active. Your dog goes missing.

Within a week, you manage to crawl back to the store with another $100 that you'll be paying back your mother with hard work, and trade in your unopened XBOX360 box. You get the same clerk again. Once he sees the $100, his frown disappears and is replaced with a smile. The other guy comes to the counter with an XBOX360 Deluxe pack, wrapped in a bow. Everyone smiles. You get a balloon. A rainstorm stops. AIDS gets cured. God visits you personally and grants you three wishes. Everyone is happy.

That's a true story, BTW.
Happened to a friend of a friend of mine.

And that's the difference between the XBOX 360 packs.

Well, firstly to stop the PS3/Xbox360 is better war, I'll get some facts out of the way:

XB360 has a cheap tri-core processor while the PS3 has a cell processor. However, the Xbox360's el-cheapo processor is comparable in power to the PS3's processor (which is part of why the PS3 will cost so much). All the PS3 can do better is that is can have more stuff on the screen. Another part of the costs is that the PS3 is going to have a blue-ray drive(the other part of why it'll cost so much) whereas the 360 supports DVDs and possibly later, HD-DVDs. As for the backwards compatibility, why bother if you're like me and already have all three systems? And when the PS3 comes out in December, the 360 shortage will be over and Microsoft can drop the price by about 50 bucks. I don't see the point in getting the PS3... Most of the games that made it great have moved to the Xbox or Nintendo(like Resident Evil). Personally, I think the revolution is going to win this console war. If you own a gamecube and actually looked at what it can do, you'll figure it out.
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on February 23, 2006, 03:36:57 AM
Well if I buy a ps3, I won't have to buy a new dvd player that can play blue ray disks when they start making movies with them. Unless the article I read was wrong and they're never going to make blue ray movies...

Meh, by time the ps3 is cheap enough to buy for $200, I'm sure I'll know for sure. I may get the nintendo revolution though, the controller only has a few buttons, but it has that nifty motian sensor or whatever that my turn out to be cool. By time thats down to $200, I'm sure there'll be a lot of reviews on it.
Title:
Post by: chronoman on February 23, 2006, 03:41:41 AM
It just depends on what kinds of games you like for example if you like halo go with X-box but if you like games such as final fantasy/ devil may cry/ Othre games that arn't coming to mind. then go with PS

I would choose the PS3 no matter how cool some of the X-box games are but that is me.

Ah.... I see.

And great story, Razor.

And Big_Duke, Condemned is a sweet game.

And Drace, Call of Duty 2 on Xbox 360 = runs better than the PC version (according to reviews) and doesn't require an amazingly good Pc. The PC version, on the other hand, has better multiplayer, due to the fact that more players can play in the same match.

We still can't leave out the revolution... It could beat out the other consoles, and as for the controller, supposedly we can hook up our GC controllers to it. If only they weren't so secretive about it.
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on February 23, 2006, 03:57:20 AM
Yeah, the revolution could be cool. Instead of pushing a button to swing a bat, you could just do it yourself. Fun :) They're probably secretive about it because they themselves are not sure what all they're going to do with it, and they don't want to commit themselves to anything they won't come through with later.

Actually, I heard that a $149 initial sell for the Rev might be possible, although they'll probably want $199 or $249. Still a lot cheaper than the PS3 or X360.

As for the X360, I dunno. I'm more of a Nintendo guy, and I'll probably get a Rev, but I also might get a PS3 if it gets cheaper. I wasn't a big fan of the Xbox, though, so I dunno.

No one should get the XBOX 360 yet.

I heard the glitch is still in the system. It overheats incredably quickly. After about an hour, it goes haywire. I know, I've tried it. A friend of mine couldn't get his money back.

I'm waiting a year, or until the glitch is finally fixed.

As for PS3, I think it's nothing more than a faster PS2.

The Rev, I might save up for, but not much of a priority.

That glitch can be solved by:
a) waiting until april when the "fixed" 360s come out
or
b) stick the power supply infront of a fan

Anyways, I have no idea in april, but PS3 sounds a lot better. 400 bucks for a friggin computer for your TV? Now that's just plain stupid...

That's a pretty bad idea in my opinion. Whats the point of even spending 300-400$ if you're gonna sell it in a few months? I saw keep it or don't buy one at all.

Anyways, besides CoD2, I say get Condemned, Perfect Dark, PGR3, Oblivion (when it comes out) and any others you want.

PGR = Project Gotham Racing

And the Ps3 might be out this year, or early next year. And what if a game you really wants comes out after you sell it? Then what will you do?

Oblivion comes out March 20th by the way, and it will ROCK.

Think about it, if you spent $400 on an Xbox 360 now, by time the ps3 comes out, the price of a new system is most likely going to drop at least $100, probably more if it comes out next year. So thats $300 for a new system, now if you want to sell your old system, you're probably only going to get $150 - $200 for it. If you sell it to a store, you're probably not even going to get that much because they'll probably be selling used systems then for around 250, and they won't pay NEARLY as much as they sell it for. Then you have to sell the games too, if you spend 50 on a game, you may be able to sell them back for 15 or 20, but again, if you sell it to a store, you'll probably only get 5 for it.

Thats a lot of money WASTED on playing games for a year. After you sell your system, you're going  to have to spend even more than what you got for selling the system, so thats going to be more money down the drain.

If you want a 360, wait till the glich is fixed and the price is lowered, then KEEP the system, if you're planning on getting a ps3 or nintendo revolution, don't buy anything else before them, and wait a few months till the glitches are worked out of them as well. And if it were me, I'd wait even longer till the price drops on the ps3.
