Story
Until The End
------------------

The world of Fonterra is in shambles. A terrible war between two powerful nations has ravaged the lands, ruined lives, destroyed towns and villages, and worse. Villagers are forced out of their hometowns to make room for the armies to camp at, and some villlagers abandon their villages completly to make the journey to the capitol cities in their area, hoping for safer accomodations. Prejudice against other races runs wild.

The war does not draw nearer to a close, on the contrary, it seems to have just began, despite having lasted for years already. The reasons behind these dreaded battles is known only by the highest officials of the nations, the cause lost to the civilians' minds. In the Eastern Nation, a town called Krasha, is forsaken by the residents, each one making their way in a chain of caravans to the capitol city.

After a tiring, miserable, and deadly journey,-for the roads are filled with countless beasts, afterall, these are the untamed wilds they travel through-the villagers came across a settlement of Eastern Nation warriors. Whisky and wine spewing from their breath, the soldiers demand food and supplies from the down-trot villagers. Unwilling to give up what little they have, the villagers refused. Angry and madly drugged by the alcohol, the soldiers attacked the villagers in pure rage. Many were killed, but some escaped.

You play as Arshe Greyson, an angry teenaged boy of Krasha Village.
------
Elements:
There are four types of elements. A long time ago, someone asociated the elements with playing card symbols. Diamond for Ice, Heart for Fire, Spade for Wind, and Club for Earth. Thus, the elements of Fonterra are usually referred to as Deck Glyphs, or, DGs. Magicians, respectively, are called Blackjacks, due to the popularity of the DG idea.

Magic:
It is believed magic was brought to Fonterra from an extraterrestrial source. It is also believed that somehow this magica force became native to the internal and spiritual structures of the monsters that roam the varius lands.
This source, from the celestial sky, later became known as Etherals, a direct spin from Ethereal-Of the celestial spheres; heavenly;,not of this world; spiritual.

Playable Characters
To be updated as more come along.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/Oni_LinkX14/UTE%20Screens/ute_arshe.gif
Arshe Greyson
"...after what I've seen, I'm not afraid to hurt you if you stand in my way..."
Special Siphon: Transfer - Converts Arshe's own Siphon Energy to another party member.
An angry seventeen year-old boy from Krasha Village. He hates the War and what it has done to the people of his world. He is somewhat hot-headed, and is easily provoked.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/Oni_LinkX14/UTE%20Screens/ute_gwen.gif
Gwen Retnaes
"Oh, Arshe, yow know I love ya, bud. I'm only kidding."
Special Siphon: Nurturing Touch - Greatly heals a party member.
At seventeen years old, also, Gwen is a little more rational than Arshe and a lot less tempermental. She is confused about her feelings for Arshe, and tries not to show it too much, just enough to  suggest it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/Oni_LinkX14/UTE%20Screens/ute_ruka.gif
Ruka Trisdale
"(I was gonna steal from this guy? What am I, some heartless monster?)"
Special Siphon: Lovable Aroma - Hastes all party members.
A sixteen year-old girl who feels as if she hasn't seen enough of the world. Ruka is warm-hearted and cheery. Her home is in the Torrid Forest, where she charges people to pass "her" road, and when that doesn't work, tries to steal. However, she does this purely for survival.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/Oni_LinkX14/UTE%20Screens/ute_vance.png
Vance Harris
"This armor is freezing my *** off."
Special Siphon: Construct Golem - Constructs a golem party member to assist the party. It has 1/3 chance of having no problems, and 2/3 chance of having major and minor errors.
A somewhat high-ranking member of the Eastern Nation army, Vance is a technological genius. He loves to construct gadgets and all sorts of doodads. It seems the only other skill he possesses that is equal to his inventing skills is the ability to charm the ladies. He dislikes his work and doesn't understand the purpose of war - his love for his home is what leads him to fight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v57/Oni_LinkX14/UTE%20Screens/ute_kaine.png
Kaine
"Sometimes a word can't exactly 'say' what is needed to be said."
Special Siphon: Dragonheart - Summons a dragon for massive damage to all enemies.
Born in the Northern Lands, Kaine is somewhat mystical, an oddity to all beside his own people. He is also a member of the Eastern Nation army (although he refuses to mention how this happened); paired with Vance for a year or so. He dislikes too much talking, and prefers taking well-thought out action than discussing things over.

Features
-Catterpillar System
-Modified DBS
-Hoping to make a CMS
-Cool Beans

Screens

Battle System
The battle system is a modified Default Battle System which emphasizes two additions:
Drawing and Using Magic
Siphon Skills

The battle system makes you use these two, as you have low health numbers and your physical attacks aren't very strong. It forces you to make quick and smart decisions.

Drawing

Step 1. Choose Draw; This will attempt to draw a varied number of certain Etherals from the enemy group.

Step 2. The magic is drawn! Go use it!

Step 3. Use the magic, it's usually stronger than your normal attack.

Siphon Skills

Step 1. Charge up Siphon Energy; you always start with none of it in the beginning of battles.

Step 2. Unleash your abilities!

Each character will have their own unique Siphon Skill. Arshe, for instance, will have Tranfer, based on his high amounts of max Siphon Energy.

Downloads
1st Demo (http://rapidshare.de/files/13297418/UTEDemo.rar.html) - A brief demo that introduces and leads up to Arshe's devious decision.
2nd Demo (http://www.zshare.net/download/ute-demo-zip-qyh.html) - The same as the last demo with some fixed bugs, more animation, and a new area. Also works for those without RPGMAKER. WORKS AGAIN

Controls
Enter, Space Bar - Accept, Choose
Arrow Keys - Move
SHIFT + Arrow Keys - Run
C, Esc, X - Cancel

Tips
-The tutorial battles aren't useless, stock up on drawn magic so you can use it later; it doesn't dissapear.
-Stock up on drawn magic in the fields where the random battles happen, you'll need it, the boss hits hard.
-Make quick decisions - some of the enemies aren't very forgiving.
-Check the fire and the armor...Heheh.

Known Bugs/Issues
-Siphon Skills can be found under the Draw Category... Looking into it.
-A few tileset issues concerning passability.
-May be some dialog errors

That's all, thanks. Please let me know about any bugs you find, etc. BTW, I'm posting this from another forum, so yeah.

Not to be rude, but...

YOU JUST BROKE A RULE!!!!!

Your first post must be in the Welcome thread, or maybe I'm just crazy, either one says you didn't read the rules. _sweat_

That rule should only apply to the request forum.

That game is made with Rpg Maker...2003?

If it so, bravo, this looks great. I like the Siphon and  Drawing systems. Well thought. The world map looks...odd. Might I suggest using something else than FF2? But since you've got this far, might as well go all the way with it. Your maps are nice and battlecharacters are really good. I'd definitly try this game.

No, you're first post doesn't have to be in the welcome forum, it just can't be in the request forum.

You're game sounds pretty good, I'll try it out sometime :)

I don't know if I like the idea of the main character (and the oldest character) being only 17, seems too young.

Thanks much. :D

Oh, and, huh. I just noticed some of the screens got cut off (about 1/2, actually) from the page... Hmm... That's odd. Do you guys want me to post them or should I not even bother?

Yeah, pay no attention to X__Ed. Anyways, from those screens it looks awesome. If I weren't lazy, I'd download it, and who knows, I may even get around to doing just that one of these days...

Hm, I did that FF8 like magic system once. Pretty fun. Some of the graphics don't go with each other, but overall pretty nice.

The map graphics of those at least haven't been used frantically, so that gives you a little plus in my book.

But your monsters/enemies look gay as hell.

Yeah, it's more of a place holder till I can get a hold of the Golden Sun inside tree tiles or something better.

BTW, here are the other screens that didn't get posted for some reason:

Enjoy! :P

The battle with the boss is WAAAAY too hard. He keeps on using that Psionic Slash thing on me and killing my characters with one single hit, I drew Revive Etherals from the Soldiors but he killed me before I used them.

Post by: Dyne-O-Mite! on February 23, 2006, 10:33:44 PM
Actually, there's a rather simple way of beating him.

First make sure you have a lot of Pure Etherals stocked up. Once this is done and the battle starts, just have Arshe start charging up Siphon energy until he has enough to do Shadow Strike - the boss is weak against Shadow elemental stuff - then use it. It should only take 3-4 Shadow Strikes to kill the Captain. Gwen should be primarily used to cast Pure Etherals.

Hope that helps.

It was pretty cool. But I got stuck on the second slime. I kept using all kinds of shizz on it, but it jsut wouldn't die. I finally got fed up with it.

rofl, nice. Anyway, it's probably that you just didn't fight it long enough, people have told me it has too much health, so I'll reduce it now so it only takes one or two hits to kill it off. After all, it's just a tutorial battle.

It's not a good idea to create a boss where the only effective battle strategy is buy, buy, buy and rely on a single char. Especially earlier.

Hm, you've got a valid point, I guess. However, I don't see where the buying comes in, unless that's a phrase or something.

I'll see about fixing it up.

btw,

zomg!!! new party member!!!

His name shall be omitted at this current moment. (Due to the fact I haven't come up with it yet.)

Just a map of the western side of the bridge.
TOP: Just a rest house, they litter the world map for safe accomodations. BOTTOM: World Map Near Multi-Layered Tower City Oristael (as described in the left screenshot)

Comments, crits?

Cool. I'm liking this game so far. I finished the whole demo and loved the draw system and all, but I had one problem with it: difficulty. Really, it was pretty hard for the very beginning of your game. I really had to figure out different ways to get through, which most of the time involved doing things I'm not sure if you meant to have. First of all, I could siphon charge and fully heal outside of battle with Gwen. If I couldn't have done that, then I wouldn't have been able to get anywhere really, especially because there is no experience to be gained to level up or anything like that (I like that idea, btw). Secondly, I could save anywhere I wanted, but I noticed a savepoint towards the end. Again, saving anywhere I wanted was crucial for me to complete the demo. I thought fighting Ruka was too hard as well. It seemed like a joke boss but she was pretty hard. Gwen was out by the time I got through it, and I had no revive ethereals left. I did think however, that the big bug boss was of good difficulty. It might've been because of the ethereals I had (I didn't even have blinding flash), but I found that boss not too hard and not too easy. Overall, keep working on this! Especially since you have more progress than most done.

Thanks much for the review, I have fixed a lot of the stuff you said (I forgot to turn off saving, thanks for reminding me.) and it's with comments like yours that this game will get even better. Anyway, here's a screen:

Shotgun-wielding, gadget-loving, lady's man. Haha. I'm trying to work out a functional ammo system just for him where you can use different types of ammo to do different types of damage... And then I want him to be able to make/summon robots that can act as low-stat party members provided there is space.

Does the golem's b-char fit in? I think it does, at least somewhat, and it's pretty much perfect for what I have in mind; The guy on top can construct different types of golems for extra-low stat, high health and defence party members as long as there is room. So does it work?
Title:
Post by: shadus on March 04, 2006, 03:15:21 PM
This game is sounding good.As for that golem he dosn't look much like a robot but other than that he fits in good.

The Etherals are an original idea.

Meiscool: Well, yeah, they are just the tiles, and of course the Golden Sun maps are better, they created the tiles and they know how to use them best.

Dragoon de Sol: insane amounts of google searching. this is like, hardcore google searching. lol btw, if wanted, the tiles are in the game, I uploaded some of them to my photobucket account, and here they are.

Well, that is what they look like 200%. I think they're supposed to be the behemoths in the game Chocobo Dungeon or Island or something. Anyway, I didn't want to use Chocobos because that's an FF thing, so I went with these things.

PLaying this atm.... and I must say, this is quite nicely done ^_^
Also you've used three of my favourite FFXI themes (The ones you named "on the road" "majorcity" and "Torrid Forest" :P)

You could have used a looping battle theme...and a less critical sounding one also ^^;

Is it just me or does Miss Greyson act alot like Izumi from FMA? <.<; scary.....

and yeah, for a first boss, that captain is waaay to hard... He uses an attack which drags your hp down to 2-5 every 3 or so turns... I wouldn't even expect that from a final.

Overall, the demo was good :P enjoyable :P ... but your battles lasted too long (considering we were fighting sheep and dogs...)

Final note: Where did you get those chars from? I like the style

I just found this Fraps program (I found it, but I know other people have known about it XP) so I felt like putting together a video. It's a 4 min. teaser/demonstration of Vance's combat skills, etc. and also shows a bit of Edyna, that snowy village.

Get it Here! (http://www.zshare.net/download/ute-vance_battle_teaser-rar.html)

It's a bit shaky, and some parts are cut a bit (because I had to take 30 second clips each) but it's pretty good considering it's a free program! Check it out and tell me what you think!

Also, Leon, never really watched Full Metal Alchemist (seriously, I'm not really into animes anymore) so I don't know. I guess it would be a coincidence. :P

Post by: Raen Ryong on March 26, 2006, 06:32:27 PM
Pretty cool video... the combat system seems very intricate. Icicle Inn music seems quite suitable for Edyna, but most people don't like music taken from Final Fantasy games. I like it though :D

There a few spelling mistakes about. Nothing major, but I'm a perfectionist myself :)... I may just download your demo soon and play it for myself... not quite sure why I haven't to this point!
Title:
Post by: nick912012 on March 26, 2006, 07:58:29 PM
I like the battle music and the backround in the battles... Backround is from Legend of Mana I believe and the battle theme is from Sword of Mana when battling Dark Lord/Stroud.

I like the game, neat battle system but I did encounter a glitch. When finding his mother after the raid, I beat the second battle of soldiers and I continued on. I went back to that spot and I fought them again. I assume it's a move event you have there.

I have gotten most the characters from here (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://dots.hp.infoseek.co.jp/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddot%2Bshoot%2Bworkshop%26hl%3Den%26hs%3D83E%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official) but I have done a lot of my own work, such as the battle characters and some custom poses.

Anyway, haven't updated for a while... So...

This battle would normally be hard if you didn't have this powerhouse of a party member with you. He's, of course, AI controlled. He is one of the head knights in the Eastern Nation Queen's army.

just a question, the draw system is like a steal camand right?
Title:
Post by: Dyne-O-Mite! on April 16, 2006, 12:36:52 AM
^yes I suppose it is^

This is (supposed to be) way harder than it seems, because the three heads in the back are your generic RPG Boss Fight annoyances that heal, damage, and cast benefical (to the main boss) and harmful (to the party) status effect spells. And they will, of course, regenerate over time after defeated. So, yeah, it's kind of tough.
