Title: Retiring?
Post by: drenrin2120 on April 12, 2006, 02:12:03 AM
I think I might be done with RPGMakers. period. Basically because I don't get the thrill anymore. I want to work more with music than anything. But MIDIs aren't cutting it anymore. I'm pretty sure this is it, I'm retired from RPGMaking. I've been doing it for a verrrrry long time. (You'd think I'd be good at it by now, lol) and I'm gonna move on. I'll still visit charas often, because the people here rock pretty hardcore! And maybe I'll just focus more on making MIDIs for the time being.

I think I'm more into writing a story and making music than I am actually into making an entire game. So I'm gonna go back to something I haven't done a long while, writing. I like the idea. Along with music should make it more interesting. Besides, I think GoHL would be better suited in book format.

I guess that's it. I'd like to thank everyone on Charas for their support while I was making games. GC for Beta Testing them, InsaneJP for helping me with my artistic skills and graphics, and all other members that gave support. It was much appreciated. I don't think I would've gotten into music as much as I have without Charas and rm2k3. I really learned alot in the past few years. I defintiely see this community becoming huge in the future. Especially with XP, as people move on. I see great things, and I'd still like to be a part of that.

Okay, I think I'm done babbling. I've said what I wanted to say.

Well, that's kind of what I feel like. I'd rather help people than make my own game, at least for now. But I see your point. I hope you have a happy retirement :p And you'll write stories? That's cool. I'll keep an eye out for them, if they are stories. I enjoy a good read every once in a while.

I feel the same pretty much. It's kinda dull as well, at least for me.

I'll miss the game GoHL but seeing it as a book will make it awesome!

Thanks guys! I'm thinking more and more that writing a book for GoHL will turn out a lot better. I enjoy writing for hours more than mapping for hours. >.<

You can't rock hardcore... those are two different music styles...

Join the club. Many of us are on Charas but don't do Rpg Maker. I know I stopped using it a while ago because of time problems. And I believe Almeidaboo doesn't work with it either.

Welcome to the club ;)

I retired from trying to put the best game out there using RPG maker. Now i just make games that are more of movies. With not much eye candy.. but I'm getting there.

Well, don't leave. That's all I really wanna say.

Besides, I haven't touched RM2K# for ever.

I haven't usd RM2K probably in a full year. But it seems to me its like, a gateway program. If I never used it in the beginning, I never would have started spriting, and if you never used it you probably wouldn't have started on midis.

Haha, I'm defintiely not goin anywhere. and if I did, it'd prolly be slowly and I wouldn't post a goodbye thread.

Haha, yeah, rm2k/3 helped me excel in music alot.

I know exactly how you feel! I mean, I still use RM, but I can't say a lot. That would be why my game's progress is so slow. Anyway, I meant to say I know exactly how you feel about music and stuff. MIDIs are hardly cutting it for me as well, but I have no other program. :( And yeah, basically everything you said about the music applies to me. But anyway, I'm glad you're still staying! At first I thought you were leaving again, and you've only been around for about half the time I've been here. Keep up that good musical work dren, my fellow aspiring artist! ;)

And I was just playing GoHL yesturday :p It was one of the demos I downloaded but never got a chance to play through, I was bored, so I went through and started playing it. I really enjoyed playing it, too bad it won't ever be finished :(

I too will be quiting rpg maker soon, but it'll just be to move on to more advanced game development.

But good luck with your music, hopefully you can make some kick *** stuff :)

Thanks DB. I'm glad I atleast got a demo out. The music in GoHL wasn't my best, I don't think. Mostly becuase I didn't spend enough time thinking about how it would fit in with the situation. Oh well, you live you learn.

To CK: Thanks dude! That's why I've taken up an isntrument, guitar. It helps a lot, believe me. But it definitely starts to define the type of music you write. Though I'm always trying to experiment.

Don't worry, I'll finish my cbs and my game before I give up rm2k3.

I didn't play GoHL for the music (although I thought it was pretty good), I played it because I thought it was a very interesting game. Oh well, if not a game, you should bring it to life in a story or something.

Wow! You mean you had been writing before playing an instrument at all? That's amazing! I had nearly 6 years of piano lessons (including most importantly, theory) under my belt before I started writing stuff. I know what you mean about the defining of your music. Since I had been exposed to a lot famous piano composer's music and I had always enjoyed music from games like Castlevania and Final Fantasy, my music always seems to be like one or the other, or a blend of the two, which creates my style.

I started writing music once I could whistle. I started writing.. good music after I had been playing guitar and piano for a couple years.

Yeah,I realized the music I was writing was impossible to actually play like, 8-10 months ago. Playing an instrument really helps.

Thanks DB, I definitely like the book idea.

I'm not so sure everything I write is possible to play. I just like the sound. :p

Yeah, well for me, it was the rock songs. I wanted to be able to play them, so they've been changing a lot. Like, how and where I put in the notes, especially how fast it goes. XP

A guitar really helps the creative process. I was pretty bad at writing songs on piano until I started playing guitar. It makes the whole theory of music a lot more digestible.
