Title: DarkBASIC Professional
Post by: Dragoon de Sol on April 20, 2006, 12:20:36 AM
Hi all.

I was wondering if there was anyone who has dabbled in DarkBASIC Professional.

I recently purchased it...and I am totally clueless.

I checked the website, but the tutorials and explanations found were a little complex for a first-timer like myself.

Is there anyone who can provide some simple starter tips OTHER than looking in the help file...because that doesn't help either.

1. if you wanted to go into that you should have started with the normal. dunno why but it's easier to figure out.
2. try to find a forum or somethin thats wrapped around mainly it. theres one somewhere. I'll try and find you one.
3. try another game language first or just plain language. that way you can get a good feel for it. you said you were new after all.

I've tried DB before but didn't really like it. I prefer Blitz3D =)

Well, I'm clueless on DarkBasic myself, but a quick Google reveals that the official tutorials you mentioned are the best for learning it.

A quick skim of them reveals that this is true. Any other tutorial will be put out in more or less the same way, and I can't see what's so complicated for you.

I'm assuming that you might've gotten a bit ahead or confused in the order of the tutorials:  Try starting from here (http://developer.thegamecreators.com/?f=t02/bm_tutorial_1) and clicking Next as you go along.

Don't try to digest too much in too short of a time. If you feel a bit overwhelmed, it's best to stop, take a rest, process all that you've learned, and then continue. Going through a few pages you've already covered could also help in cementing down the concepts.

There's not much else I can do - those tutorials are the most basic of basics, and if you still can't get it down then you might need someone you know personally to walk you through it.

I found a decent tutorial site online.

Other than that you can get a book or something, there seems to  be few tutorials on google.

Also there is a community section on the creators site with other peoples code for their games, but try to get the basics down before you go there.

I have DB pro, so far I love it. I'm currently learning how to use it as well.

Thats pretty much everything you need to know to make a 3d game, it goes over a LOT of things that'll help get you started. ;)
