Formerly named: Revolution
Now named: Wii
Bad idea? I think so.
-
i heard this awhile ago but ii in japenese means good so meh its a japenese game. at least its not a "game something"
-
Gay... XD
i wasn't going to buy the new nintendo system anyways, but...
-
I just heard about that earlier today at school, they should have stuck with nintendo revolution. Wii just sounds bad...
Imagine saying "I'm going to go home to play with my wii!" :eyes:
-
Hmmm, sounds bad yes, but I do like the meaning behind it.
-
Nintendo "Wheeeeee!"

Personally, I liked the meaning of 'revolution' a lot better. I think that was their goal with the special controllers. Wii means good somthing or other, but it doesn't have the same effect as revolution.
-
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii?
:p
-
well revolution was its place holder name. all systems have a name before their name i don't understand why everyone thought they were going to keep the name revolution
-
I don't know what's more shocking.. that they plan on changing the name or that it doesn't surprise me that they're changing the name..
-
Ugh, horrible name.
Change it back. Pleeeease! :(
-
I might just take a Wii on the name.

Definitely.
Lol, at first I thought it was prounounced "why?" Heh, I was like WHY did they choose WII?
-
stand out from the rest, its what i wanted.
Also it was never named revolution: that was the project's codename.
-
What kind of stupid name is that? Nintendo Wii? Revolution was much better. Tho the reasoning behind it is good, the name is just lame.
-
Just like how the Gamecube was labeled "Dolphin" before the name was released to the public.
-
If only it were french.
-
Whe cares if revolution was just a codename. It was a good name, they should have stuck with it, theres nothign saying they HAVE to change it.
Then again, a lot of code names are really cool, and then the actual names aren't as cool.
Windows Vista for example, the code name was windows longhorn, I thought that sounded cooler.
Then I think the ps3s code name was playstation fury, which I also thought was pretty cool. Theres nothing wrong with just using a numeric name though like the ps3.
-
Hahahaha, WTF man...this' ridiculous! They might as well have put it Nintendo Pecker! OMG what they have in their heads? First that "joystick" (no much joy in that IMO), now the Hawaiian name!
-
But I look at it, and when I see the system, it doesn't look like it should be named revolution; it too much of a word to simplify how the system looks.
Nintendo Wii fits perfects to how it looks.
Not a big hit to me. I knew a name was going to be given.
-
I'm afraid of looking stupid so I'm going to lie along with everyone else and say I knew this was going to happen too.
In all seriousness, Wii is... well... dumb. It sounds dumb. I took wiiwiis when I was five. I like to watch Wiible and Bob. When I ride a roller coaster, I yell Wii!
But I do not play my favorite Nintendo games on Wii. I play them on a Revolution. And it will always be the Revolution in my heart.
-
WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!! no longer, now its WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!
-
Ah, that does kinda suck. Maybe they'll change it when it comes to the states though... ah... that's a horrible name.
-
Ridiculous name, but then, so what? I care about the games, not the names, and in fact I won't even buy it.

That's exactly what I told my roomates.
Yeah the name is bad, but I think the codename revolution has stuck in a lot of people.
The few people that might call it "we", are the people that didn't even know about it. Yes there are people out there that have no idea.
Besides when I tell someone I want to play a nintendo system, I just use the term "Nintendo". Most of the time at least.
-
Honestly, a name won't make me love it any less (or any more, if things go belly-up), since I've already survived the shock of the remote nunchcontroller. I've made my peace with the turns Nintendo is throwing at us, and I don't mind. As long as it turns out as good as I hope (Red Steel, baby!), I won't have a problem with it. Remember when DS was just the codename? But then it wasn't? And people said the name was stupid and made bad jokes about it (the DS stands for "dip-****"), it still turned out pretty bitchin', right? All I have is hope for the future of Nintendo.
But there prob'ly could've been a better name than "Wii"...
-
Surely, with a name like Wii, this will drop profits greatly due to embarassment among those who say "I'm going to play my Wii." the company has made a great mistake and will fall hard to shattered remains. This is surely a great big mistake.
*chuckle* Wii... *chuckle*
-
It isn't a mistake.
I am sure they are aware of how they named it.
Red Steel is gonna be the first game I buy.
That game will rock socks off.

"Third, and this is a big one, there are no trademarks registered by Nintendo nor by any dummy corp in the U.S or over there for Wii. This is unprecedented for Nintendo and it is not possible that this is an oversight. If Wii were the name, they would have registered it. In fact, no new trademarks have been registered by Nintendo at all. This leads us to conclude that Nintendo has in fact registered the real name under a dummy corp, which is SOP when trying to keep a name a secret prior to launch."
Hmm?
