Title: ~Reminisence: A True Friend (open again)~
Post by: PikaTira on April 30, 2006, 02:20:23 AM
[GLOW]Reminiscence: A True Friend[/GLOW]

This a project that I started about 2 years ago. I took a long break on it so to revise the story. That was less then a year ago and now I'm back to finish what I started with more knowledge on many thing. However, the progress will be sloww unless I get a paint shop pro 7 or up soon. I only use demo version of it. I tried using gimp, paintshop pro 5+6, and other image editors but I have gotten used to the high and more expensive PSP.

The characters are still the same but I am adding some more. Why? Because with the revised story it will need it. To set is equal there will be some Characters that change from PC to a NPC.

A lot of the restarting time is going to be spent on fixing what I have. The dialogue is cheap and too idiotic. I hope the fix everything soon. About 5 of the 12 map are safe from my extreme game makeover but the others will be redone. some of the chipsets are gone. Most of the events that I started to work on must be redone so that they make since to the general public and not only to me and my friend Sara. The intro will be longer because I doubt that a 3 minute intro is good. May things are staying. My system, system 2, gameover, and title are going to stay. I really like them so I refuse to get rid of them

The cliches are staying. This is a semi-humorous game.

 [GLOW]Summary[/GLOW]
Annie and Sara are two best friends in a normal world, living their normal life with their good friends. However this is about to change thanks to an earthquake and a strange light. These two friends soon wake up to a new world. A world filled with monster, ninjas, and other things that will defy reality. If that is not enough they will soon discover that their good friends are here too, but with no memory of the “real” world or Annie and Sara. With only Annie and Sara with memory of the “real” world how will they get home? What is with these beings called the Dreamers and what can do to help Annie, Sara, and their friends? And who is this collector man and what does he want? These two friends will put have to put their friendship on the line in order to answer these questions and get home.

This game has a deep moral about how strong friendships with people can pull you throught any situration.

I do not have the Facesets for the new characters yet but the Charatersets are done. Some how the program I was using for the facesets has been deleted off my computer. Darn parents!

Also those bios I promised you a year ago will be done in a week or two. As I said at the top may things are being remade and that is one of them.

Lotta girl characters. Different at the very least.
Title:
Post by: PikaTira on April 30, 2006, 02:30:52 AM
Thanks. I know it a lot of girls but that is one of the cliches that I wanted to break. Usually it is only 2-3 girls in an RPG.

Just in case you want to see how bad my mapping skills used to be here is a pic of a forest I did before

And here is a map I started on yesterday night.

((I should add a little more detail the my now one too. [reminder for me]))

Yes, in all honesty, you're maps are a bit blocky. Refer to a Mapping Tut for some help in your maps, as they aren't the greatest at the moment.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out right now.

1: Definately a female's game.

2: Bleh maps, like said before. The second one isn't too bad, but the forest is just way too... unrealistic-looking.

Yes. I believe the good one are mine, Runeblade's, and Robotam's.

Mei, I really like your Tut. It gave me some more ideas.

Hell:

1. Yes this is a female game. I do not see why tha is a problem. Females can be heros. (Ex: Yuna [FF X-2], Lara Croft [Tomb Raider], and Terra [FF VI])
2. The first one was done before I gain a tiny bit of experence. The second one still need work though.

Update:

My intro had be completely deleted. That's right. It's gone!!! ^-^ YAY!!! IT was a really bad ending and too straight forward. It lack character developement and meaning. The jokes were bad and it was really short (three f***ing minutes). Thanks to my studing of programing, I am positive I can make a better intro [or die tring to].

Pika, dear, I was not intending a sexist remark, I was merely pointing out the obvious fact, that this game can easily be seen as a 'femanine game.' I said nothing about it being a problem nor did i say there was anything wrong with female heroes.

Hell, it might be a good change from all these 'tough *ssed' games.
Title:
Post by: PikaTira on May 02, 2006, 03:14:30 AM
^-^ Okay. I was not calling you a sexist I was just pointing out a point about games where it is mostly females as characters.

Update:

I started working on my new intro but unfortunatally I am at a stand still. I can not if a bus chipset and bus characterset. If anyone sees one please tell me. Than you.

Thanks to my 4 free periods in school, I was able to finish 2 bios...yay!!

Update:

I have been working on my map skills and so far I hink they are getting better. I thank Meiscool for the Tut on Map making. Also all of the PC's weapon types have been decided.

Annie = 2 handed long swords
Sara = Wands
Ali = Scythes
Shirley = Specail throwing items
John = Bow + Arrows
Lynne = Enchanted gauntlets.

(new pc)
Adam = Buster swords
Viccy = Toys
Mike = Books (Not throwing them)
Alyssa = Whips
Julia = Bowstaffs

Also the land that the heros stumble into is called (Drum roll please) ..........Medar. For some reason I had Midgar and another word stuck in my head to form Medar.

Ok.

RANDOM FACT: Midgar comes from Midgard (I'm pretty damned sure), which is basically Scandinavian (Or someting or other in that general location) for "Middle Earth".
Title: Your game
Post by: sephetious on May 08, 2006, 08:48:03 AM
This is the kind of shiaat im talking about. WHO CARES if the maps are blocky? are people seriously going to say that oldschool rpgs with blocky maps SUCKED? Cmon... FF2 for SNES had blocky maps! FF1 for NES had blocky as **** maps. IF the maker of the game doesnt focus on thier maps as much, it probably means that they are focusing on other areas... which will make the game better in some aspects. Ive played some games with AMAZING maps, amazing art... and even amazing programming. but the game's dialogue and plot were SO BAD that i felt my brain leaking out my ear when I was playing them.

Hey, if you are happy with the overall appearance and playability of your game... then continue making it as it is. ALOT of this world is closed minded, and they see something like a blocky map (or a gay person) they are like... HA! THATS GAY.

**** them
they are retarded.
they wouldnt playtest your game cuz they are closed minded. even if they do play it all they focus on are the unimportant factors. whatever.

haha im drunk :P

I know you werent really getting down on her for having blocky maps, you were just trying to give constructive criticism... I just felt like ranting. Im drunk, sorry :)

I don't know who you are, but you made some good points... but ruined them with your 'I'm drunk! Lookit meeee! Gimme attention' statements. v_v

Thanks for the random fact Bluhman. That is interesting to know!

Sephetious, Thank you for you comment and opinion on my maps. I take it to my heart. But I still want to get better in them. Don't worry about whole great graphic / lame storyline thing. Trust me I know exactly what your talking about ((Final Fantasy: Spirit within. TT-TT How could they do that to FF!?)). Anyways, the story is reaching it's perfecting peak. ^-^ I work on it everyday during English (Stupid World Literature! DOWN WITH ENGLISH!!).

Update:

Fixed up an old map and made a new one.

Went shopping for a cheap Paint shop pro 7 or up. It was impossible. I'll try again this weekend.

Graphics (in terms of character poses, battle characters, recoloring/ repairing chipsets, and ect..) is on hold until I can find the graphic program that I want.

Half of the script is written out. I'm going to give it to my friend to go over it and tell me what she thinks.

Oh.... I will probably make a demo but it will have nothing to do with the story line. It will just show you a part of the world, battles, and some of the planned mini-games.

hehe sorry :P I didnt mean it like 'Yeah, I drink alcohol, I'm cool.'

I really was drunk though, so I dont really know why I said it... but probably because the alcohol was causing some sort of psuedo-insecurity.

and Pika, youre welcome. Now that I am sober, I can say that your game seems pretty interesting so far. All the different characters/classes and such is pretty sweet. some are pretty original. nice :P
I was just releasing my rage on your page because people kept telling me my game could never be good because I used the generic RTP chipsets for some of it...

yeah your maps were a bit blocky.. but I can see that you have good map building potential (from the tower map). It looks like you used the same chipset for your forest that I did in my game. (that people were accusing me of copying from another game)
I can see why its blocky, when I first started messing around with that chipset it took me a few to actually figure out how to work with it.

If you really want to upgrade the look of your maps then I would recommend starting a map with a chipset you want to use, and play with it. dont even build the map right away, just play with it for a while until you get a feel for how it works. once you get it down you can make it look better, and after a while youll get fast @ it.

At first with my forest zone, it was taking a really long time to build it. then I started to get good at it and i devised ways to make the leafy canopies faster. like, i would first draw with the pure black tile an outline for how big that leaf area was going to be, then filled it in. then I took all the upper left leaf tiles and put them on the tiles closest to the left and top of the black tiles. then i put all the upper left leaf 'connector' tiles in between. did the same for lower left lower right and upper right, then filled the rest in with the straight (up/down/left/right) tiles. then I added the trunks afterward.

sorry that was hard to explain, i hope you caught what i meant :P good luck!

Thanks Seph for the advice. I can use everything I can get. ^-^ Oh and thanks for the comment of originalty. I was afraid that people would think that the game was not original. ^-^

Update:

I experimented with the shift button and making cliffs on my tower map and this is that I got. (Tell me whet you think of it.)

Edit: Does any one have a waterfall splash? I could really use one.

Post by: coasterkrazy on May 10, 2006, 11:57:28 PM
It looks pretty good. :) One thing I do notice though is that the ledges look a bit square. Maybe try making them more curvy to go for a more realistic effect. Other than that that, it looks okay. I like the whole symmetry thing you got going on there. Makes it look fancy. :)

And here's some waterfall splashes. I should mention I took them from DB's old game demo. I don't know where he got them.
Title: nice
Post by: sephetious on May 11, 2006, 11:49:29 AM
the tower map looks twice as cool :P like i said, you do have great potential.

if i may offer a little constructive criticism...

the cliffs look neat, but they are unrealistic looking because they overlap eachother. you should almost consider making the cliff edges run all the way down to the ground instead of just going 3 or 4 tiles to the bottom of the cliff ledge. another thing is i dont know if you meant to do this, but your angel statue things arent even on both sides of the screen. one is 1 tile higher than the other. it doesnt look bad @ all though.

nice work

also
hard to explain what i mean by this, but notice how the height of the land magically changes when the cliff edge hits the statue. i know that is hard to fix, but if you make the cliff come out and have just grass on the furthest edges off the map instead of cliff edges it will look better.

Coaster - Thanks for the characterset and the constructive criticism. It helps me a lot!

Seph - Thank you for the tips and for telling me about the statues. I did not notice it.

Everyone. Be free to tell me what you like and hate about this game. I like to know what people hate about my game. It makes me think of ways to improve my game.

Update:
Still working on the script. My friend read a page and liked it.

Update:

The game is done! ........... Just kidding.

No much happening. I'm still trying to find a PSP 7 or up but there is not much success. So graphic are done, except the facesets to some characters.

I have been working on my script still. I think my english teacher is catching on to me though. Oh well, he has not said anything about it so I'm okay.

Well that's about it for right now.

Our games share similar names, just so you know.

As for graphics programs, do you have Idraw and Ultimate Paint? If not go here:

 Idraw (http://www.rpg-palace.com/Utilities/iDraw332_e.zip)

and here:

Ultimate Paint (http://www.ultimatepaint.com)

Idraw is like paint except you can use up to 256 colors and it's much easier to edit stuff.

Ultimate Paint is a free image converter. This means that if you want to edit two chipsets together or if you want a photo to be made into a panorama, this is for you.

I'm assuming you want Photoshop to make lighting effects and stuff like that. I can't help you there. I don't have Photoshop either. I think there is a free trial version out there but it is a LONG DOWNLOAD. It took my 56k modem 4 hours to get 23% of it. That's all the help I can offer.

By the way I like your storyline and I can see that your maps are getting better.

Thanks for the comments. Yes I did have Idraw at one point. (I might still have it somewhere in the back of this computer) It's good for touching up on characters sets and other things. For converting I use Ifran. It's a very simple progam. I thank you for your offers though.

The problem is lighting and change the coloring of a certain part of the image with out having to spend days on working on the coloring.

Truefully I do not like Photoshop. I prefer Paintshop. This could be because I used it so much in the past. Maybe if I spent a few mouths on Photoshop, I would like it more.

Thank you for noticing my maps I hope to get better at making them. I'm still working on town maps. I'm going to need a lot of creative juice for my think called a brain. *Points to 3 truckloads of root beer*

Ace, you said that our games have simular names.

*Edit*

COOL!!!!! I LOVE FINAL FANTASY!!!!! AND YOU STORYLINE!!!!!!!!!
