I just d/l 2 dvd's, which I strongly recommend to anyone with decent ears: Silverchair's Live from Faraway Stables and Green Day's Bullet in a Bible.

Seems that the outstanding work done in American Idiot gave Green Day some new vibration, and then in this show they rock really, really hard, It´s an aswesome presentation.

After being heavily sick twice (first anorexia and then reactive arthrisis), Silverchair's front man, Daniel Johns, came up with an album that make any of the Beatles members worth only working in the salvation army. Diorama goes far far away from what Silverchair had done before, which could be bad if the album wasn´t a masterpiece of mixing styles and exploring new grounds. Everything showed the band's grownth: the lyrics, the vocals, the intruments, the experiment. And Live from Faraway Stables is about all that, but live. For those who didn´t appreciate the new album, the show is divided in 2 acts and in both the play the heavier songs.

Best thing about Silverchair is that they proved both the media and Lenny Kravitz wrong. The media called them "Nirvana in pajamas": now NIrvana is wearing Silverchair's pajamas, cause these proved to be infinetely better than those. MOre importantly: thank GOd NIrvana is dead. Lenny Kravits said that in rock there were no more guitar riffs to be done, that the possibilities were exausted. The only 90s 00s band I EVER listened that could make brands new riffs and combination of stuff is Silverchair.

I also recommend  SOAD's Mesmerize and Hypnotize, both of them show that SOAD, heavy as it is, should be listened by anyone who´d like to be considered apart from the ignorant and the monkeys.

Going back in time shouldn't be a bad idea also...It´s nice to be able to finally understand that the Grunge movement, in the late 80s and early 90s wasn´t just about clothing. DO listen to: Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, and Early Silverchair (FRogstomp) and you´ll be able to feel and chain a huge amount of characteristics common to all those bands. You'll probably even change your clothing after that.

Other than that you can try: Offspring, A perfect CIrcle, SLipknot (to break stuff at home), Real Big Fish (to feel young), Nickleback (to sit and enjoy the godly instrument: guitar), Jamie Culllum (with your girlfriend, in bed), Franz Ferdinand (Punk is not dead), Chico Buarque (alright, even if you learn portuguese you´d never understand him...but try, to enhance you musical culture and show off), BECK (not just the real life Beck, but also BEck the anime, for best anime OST) and Spirited Away's OST (to feel that the world still have good things about it).

What about Gorillaz makes you not like them? They branch out with so many different kinds of music from rap to rock, from reggae to Techno. It's almost impossible to not like at least one of their songs.

(Note I said almost impossible)

Man, in a way, I'm a very varied music listening kinda guy. But, in another sense, I'm very closed-minded, since my tastes stay under the rock umbrella.

The Offspring
Metallica
Ozzy Osbourne
Led Zeppelin (I'm listening to some right now!)
System of a Down
Van Halen (pre-Hagar)
Rush
Black Sabbath
Blink 182
Gorillaz (just a few songs, though)*
Orgy
Rammstein (still just a few)*
Beatles
Queen
Pink Floyd
KISS
Rage Against the Machine
Kansas
Cake
Nirvana
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Guns 'n' Roses
Live
Rob Zombie

I think that's it.

*Only because I don't have any of their CDs.

From PItchfork a while ago. I don't like them ubut it was the first place I looked:

Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Is a Go

Amy Phillips reports:
"It's official, the Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. No release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."

Well, there you have it-- the latest update on the Smashing Pumpkins reunion, taken straight from the band's official website. That's all. Nothing else to report, sorry!

No, we don't know who exactly is in the band now, although we assume it's some combination involving Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain, since Billboard.com reported earlier this year that the pair signed a management deal under the Smashing Pumpkins name.

http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/ reinforces that.

Im' lsitening to Free Bird right now, I love this song. Anyone ever hear the live version of Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin? It has an insane 8-10 minute drum solo.

1.System of a Down
2.Evanescence
3.Disturbed
4.The Clash
5.Misfits
6.Green Day (The REAL Green Day, before American Idiot.)
7.The Adoltz (Garage band in my neighborhood.)
8.Sum 41
9.Trans-siberian Orchestra
10.Eminem (Only his song "Mosh." that's the only song of his I like.)

Yeah I have the DVD. Its amazing. Only drummers that top Bonham in my book are Danny Carey and Chad Smith.

I need to get more in tuned with musics great artists of the past. It's pretty sad really, but I couldn't give you any names from bands like Led Zeppelin... Hell, I have hard enough time naming the bands. Probably cuz I don't actually listen to classic rock. I should, though.

My friend showed that to me once.. it was insane..

Of course, drummer wise, I would have to say Jan Axel von Blomberg's my favourite.

Don´t worry, Led Zeppelin sucka major. You should look at the Grunge generation though.

Sorry to revive this, but I got an Slipknot question: all their albums sound like the last one or the last one is an improvement, or one of a kind thing for em? Cause I really liked it and I´m thinking about getting all their albums...(the last album is heavy too, but not THAT much)

I only have their last one, but judging by some of their older songs I heard, I find it an improvement.

If you want a band that constantly changes style each album, go for Death. I heard no album is alike. But that's probably because there are almost always different members except the guitarist.

But that´s exacly what I don´t want...I like bands that improve and make better songs every album, without changing styles. Like NIckelback. The only band I tolerate to change styles is Silverchair, cause Daniel Johns is talented to the point that anything he does comes out perfect. The rest, I like em to remain in the style, like Offspring. Green day changed a bit, but not enough to suck.

Where is Mr. Mister? (seriously, I just noticed that he disappeared!)

Seriously, Death is awesome with changes. Makes it fresh every time.

If you want a band that improves per album, go for Atreyu if you haven't already.

The one from "How the West Was Won"? Best live album from an older band ever!

Atreyu's latest work is great. That your weird music taste doesn't like it, that's YOUR problem. I know enough people that find them becoming better.

Atreyu is good, even if you don't like screamo. Why? Simple, guitars = awesome

I have a friend whos really into the hardcore/screamo stuff, so I checked some of it out. I have to say, many times the musicianship is excellent.
